Quest for the
Lost Tribes

Philologos Comments: In the end times Judah will be reunited with his exiled Israelite
brothers and await Messiah. Just who Judah's brothers are is the focus
of this fascinating documentary. "Quest for the Lost Tribes"
explores the traditions of little known enclaves of people who consider
themselves children of Israel as well as larger communities whose
backgrounds are overwhelmingly Jewish even though they don't consciously
admit it.
The tribe of Dan is identified with the Falasha Jews of Ethiopia as
per Israeli Rabbis who ruled in their favor before the 1991 airlift;
Manasseh is located amongst the Menmasseh people on the Indian/Burmese
border; Issachar and Naphtali are to be found in the area of Bukhara,
Uzbekistan; Zebulon is hidden within predominantly Hindu India in the
area of Bombay. By far the greatest number of these lost sons seem to be
those within the Pathan population of Afghanistan/Pakistan who are said
to be of the tribes of Reuben, Levi, Simeon, Gad and Ephraim. The tribe
of Asher seemed to be one that eluded all efforts to identify but in the
course of the search a small community of Cohen priests was discovered
on an island off the coast of Tunisia.
Recent DNA testing has made world-wide headlines regarding the
identification of the priestly class but this video makes no scientific
claims and instead goes in search of the "Jewish soul" along
the ancient Silk Route. What's uncovered makes a compelling case for
where the lost tribes are to be found: "The lost tribes of Israel
are no longer lost; the lost tribes of Israel have never been lost. What
was lost is our consciousness, what was lost is our sensitivity to parts
of the world which are not Western. We were lost to them; they've never
been lost to themselves."
Highly recommended.

A lonely trumpet solo and a narrator sporting a Jersey accent
set a somewhat ominous, Godfather-esque stage for this stylish,
35-minute lesson about courage. But fear not: it's a VeggieTales story
after all, and it soon kicks into action. Based on the Bible story of
Esther, "just an ordinary girl" who becomes queen of Persia,
this animated retelling tosses in the usual cup of Veggie humor to
lighten the flavor of its very serious message. Esther, a young green
onion, cannot understand why she has been chosen to wed King Xerxes
(played by the humble pickle, Mr. Nezzer). Her cousin Mordecai (Pa
Grape) assures her that God must have a reason; she soon discovers that
her entire family's fate rests upon her ability to show courage under
pressure. While this particular tale drops many of the comical
sing-along aspects of other favorite VeggieTales (such as Dave and the
Giant Pickle and Where Is God When I'm S-Scared), its strength comes
from its storyline; its rich, inspired artwork; and its impressive
musical score. The creative team at Big Idea continues to produce
quality Christian videos for the entire family. One quibble: there's no
"Silly Songs with Larry" segment. --Liane Thomas |

Josh and the Big Wall is a hilarious, fully computer-animated story
that teaches children a Biblical perspective on obedience.
Oh, boy! After 40 years of wandering in the desert, the children of
Israel finally get to go to the Promised Land! Only one little thing
they've overlooked though... Jericho! Yep. Surrounded by huge walls and
bristling with really annoying peas, no one gets to the Promised Land
without going through Jericho first! But how? Joshua has God's
directions, but they sound kind of... well, weird. To make matters
worse, some of the Israelites are cooking up a plan of their own! In the
end, they have to decide whether it's better to do things their way, or
God's way! Kids of all ages will learn a lesson about obedience in this
hilarious retelling of the classic Bible story - Josh and the Big Wall!

Have you ever felt too small to do a big job?
That's how a little shepherd boy named Dave feels when his big
brothers head off to defend their country, leaving Dave behind with the
sheep. "Big people do big things, and little people do little
things," they tell him. They're in for a surprise, however, when
they find out their foe is much bigger than they thought! Is anyone big
enough to take on an eight-foot pickle? But wait! Who's that running out
to challenge the mighty warrior? It kind of looks like ... could it be?
... Dave?!?

Amazon.com Editorial Review:
Debates have long raged over the Bible's authorship. "The Bible is
a library, and libraries only get built over long, long years,
centuries," notes one biblical scholar in the two-part Who Wrote
the Bible?. Yet many disagree, believing that the Bible is the literal
word of God, handed down to mortals who acted merely as transcribers.
This fascinating video explores questions such as "How much of the
Bible is the word of God, and how much is the work of mortals?"
"Are all the original books still in the Bible?" and
"Where do legend and history intersect in the Bible?" Delving
into the theory that four authors took part, examining historical
evidence such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, and looking at ancient customs,
we are given a new perspective on the most well-known and well-read text
of all time. The first 75-minute tape looks at the five books of
Moses--the Old Testament--while the second 75-minute tape examines the
New Testament. This is a truly interesting investigation of the origins
of the Bible, engaging for those with a background in religion and
educational for the layperson. --Jenny Brown |

"Pierre Rehov, has set out to create numerous video
documentaries portraying images displayed on official Palestinian
Authority (PA)television. These professionally produced documentaries,
containing raw material from Arabic language broadcasts on PA TV, have
been translated and subtitled into English and French. To date, over
40,000 video cassettes have been distributed in France alone. These
video documentaries have recently been made available in Israel, where
they are distributed by the Steimatzky book store chain, distribution in
the U.S. is limited to the WorldNetDaily online store. Compiled with
help of numerous israelis associations the documentaries reveal the
shocking images of incitement displayed on Yasser Arafat's Palestinian
Television Network. Unique about the documentaries is the fact that they
merely reflect what is shown on PA television, while no outside opinion
is stated.
Philologos Review:
These videos are very poor quality but having said that, they are a
must-have for anyone trying to figure out what Arafat and his ilk are
all about. Both videos are compilations of news items that need very
little commentary and show exactly what is being said and done in PA
controlled areas of Israel. Some of the images are shocking and very
disturbing so please be forewarned that this is not for everyone but if
you're looking for a resource that captures the indoctrination of
children into a religion of violence with the resultant terrorist acts
associated with that brain-washing, then this is for you. If you're
trying to figure out just what Arafat stands for and what he is working
for behind the scenes, then this is for you. If you want to know what
was behind September 11, 2001, then this is for you. The Middle East
will be the catalyst that brings on another world war and with these
videos you will be much better informed than the average world citizen
for you will actually be given the flip-side to one-sided journalism
that picks every action of the Israelis apart on an international basis
but turns a blind eye to Arafat and his henchmen. Nobody listened when
Hitler boasted publicly of his plans to annihilate the Jews and there is
someone in our midst who is as much if not more dangerous than Hitler
ever thought to be and he is embraced as a statesman and given the Nobel
Peace Prize. Hear him speak in his own words, see what is being taught
to Arab children in PA controlled schools, watch the inevitable end
result of that "education" and decide for yourself-- you'll
never look at the Middle East crisis in the same way again. |
