It's Official: 'Diversity' Includes Sex-with-Children and Sex-with-
Animals

People used to laugh when told that "diversity" was going to expand
to include 1) sex between men and boys and 2) sex between humans and
animals.
But they can't laugh anymore. No one is sure how far "diversity" will
continue to go before the citizens understand.
WGBH is advocating man/boy sex in its television show about a "love
affair" between a man (29-years-old) and a boy (15-years-old),
complete with graphic sex scenes. A professor of ethics at Princeton
University is advocating sex with animals. The president of PETA
writes approvingly of his thesis. Much of this "diversity" was
predicted in 1979 by two scholars, Dr. C. Everett Koop and Dr.
Francis Schaeffer, who said that adult/child sex would be normalized
in the 1990s. This was inevitable, they said, because we no longer
had a "Judeo-Christian base." Instead, we had moved to humanism with
no fixed standards of values and morality.
Sex With Animals
The Ira W. DeCamp professor at Princeton's "Center for Human Values,"
Peter Singer, is telling the nation that sex with animals is fine as
long as it does not hurt the animal.
He says that the only reason we have a taboo against this is because
of the "Judeo-Christian tradition." If we can get rid of that
nonsense, the taboo would fall, he believes.
The president of PETA agrees with Singer's beliefs about animals. She
said the following about his article which appeared on
nerve.com. "It's daring and honest, and it does not do what some
people read into it, which is condone any violent acts involving an
animal, sexual or otherwise."
When asked how an animal can consent to sex, she said, "It sounds
like [your question] is an attempt to make this so narrow and so
unintellectual in its focus. You know, Peter Singer is an
intellectual, and he looks at all nuances of an issue, the whole
concept of consent with animals is very different."
Singer bases his argument on the fact that bestiality has always
existed in the world, and therefore it must be normal. (Alcohol and
drugs have always existed. Does that mean we should encourage them
also?) He cited six pictures over a 2500-year period to show that
this is "normal" behavior. He cites the discredited Alfred Kinsey for
the ridiculous statement that over 50% of rural boys in America had
sex with animals.
It's interesting to note that he agrees with Dr. Koop and Dr.
Schaeffer that only Judeo-Christian values stop us from embracing his
vision. He blames our problems on that tradition that he says
teaches, "Humans alone are made in the image of God." He writes that
under this tradition, "Only human beings have an immortal soul. In
Genesis, God gives humans dominion over the animals. In the
Renaissance idea of the Great Chain of Being, humans are halfway
between the beasts and the angels. We are spiritual beings as well as
physical beings." He believes that all of those teachings are wrong.
Singer recounts that all the taboos about sex have fallen except for
those with animals. He says that bestiality is fine as long as you do
not hurt the animal. Therefore, he cautions against sex with chickens
because, he says, it always results in the death of the chicken.
Many will still giggle and say that this does not mean that Singer's
beliefs are mainstream ideas. But the professor has not been in a
dark closet at Princeton for the last thirty years. They just hired
him last year for this prominent position after all of his views were
well known. In addition, those of us who were around in 1973, when
homosexuality was removed from the "disorder" list by the American
Psychiatric Association, can remember the many claims made at that
time which have proven to be false.

Denver appearance since the Columbine shootings, led a Mile High
Stadium crowd in defiant cheers Thursday night against those who
sought to cancel the show.
In a profanity-laden diatribe that came during the daylong Ozzfest,
Manson said the Bible contains more violence than his music and asked
who is a worse influence: Manson or God.
"God," the crowd yelled.
"How about beating (up) ... every priest that said we were going to
hell? I want to hear you scream, 'Fight!' "
And the crowd of 24,000 chanted back, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) via NewsEdge Corporation - Two parents
have sued Sony Pictures, claiming the studio falsely marketed its
comedy ``The Animal'' to youths.
James and Ana Morris claim Sony failed to warn moviegoers adequately
of scenes involving human and animal sexual acts that are
inappropriate for children to see.
The couple filed the lawsuit Thursday in Palm Beach County Circuit
Court. It seeks $15,000 to $75,000 in compensatory and punitive
damages.
The parents said they took their twin 13-year-old sons and 10-year-
old daughter to see the movie on June 3.
James Morris said the movie, starring Rob Schneider as a man who
receives transplanted animal organs, should have been rated R instead
of PG-13.
``I expected perhaps language,'' said Morris, of Loxahatchee. ``I
certainly didn't expect to have thrown at us references and
innuendoes to bestiality.

TWO BEGINNINGS
The Physical Beginning
In this first, physical, beginning, after creating the heaven and
earth,
then finding it `without form and void with darkness up on the face of
the deep', Genesis 1, the spirit of God moved upon the physical face
of
the physical waters, `the deep'. God then said: "Let there be
light!"
and there was light, physical light. We are told God saw the light
`that it was good' and He divided the light from the darkness. We
know,
today, that some types of physical light will harm our physical
bodies.
Overexposure to the ultraviolet light of the Sun burns the skin and
overexposure to other types of `light' waves, such as x-rays, can
cause
death. If we are wise, we will keep ourselves from being exposed to
such types of light. We do this by not exposing ourselves to it and,
if
it is necessary to be exposed, to limit our degree of exposure and/or
protect out bodies from it such as with the lead shield used for
protection from x-rays. We are told to put it on and not move. We,
consciously, guard against the dangers posed by `bad' light. Praise
the
Lord!
After dividing the light from the darkness God called the light `Day'
and the darkness He called `night' for the first physical 24 hour day
of
our time. However, He then equates the `Day' to `evening' and the
`night' to `morning'. We know that the light of both evening and
morning is a mixture of both light and dark. When the light from the
Sun reaches its maximum, the darkness is at a minimum. Similarly,
when
the Sun has set, completely, in the evening, the darkness reaches its
maximum, if it were not for the moon and the stars the night would be
completely dark. However, God has provided the sun, the moon and all
the `lights' in the firmament of heaven, to be for `signs and for
seasons, and for days, and for years'. Praise the Lord!
Finally, after creating the heaven and the earth; making a second
`heaven' in the midst of the waters; then dividing the first `heaven'
in
order to accommodate the sun, moon and stars, at the end of the six
days
of Genesis 1, God rested. Praise the Lord!
The Spiritual Beginning
At the time of the second, spiritual, beginning there was `darkness',
upon the sea of mankind. This darkness had been `upon the face of the
deep' from the day Adam `died'. However, God sent His Son to bring
spiritual light into the world. After His Son paid the penalty for
sin,
God was able to send His Spirit, the Holy Ghost, to give spiritual
light
to whosoever would accept Jesus, the Christ, as the Son of God. I
think
this was the Spirit that moved upon the face of the waters, in Genesis
1, the Spirit that brought physical light into the world. I think
this
Spirit, on the day of Pentecost, brought spiritual light into the
world
and the light has been shining in individual believers ever since. It
is spiritual light that is good, in the eyes of God, and it
identifies,
to God, those who are `children of the day'. I Thess. 5:5 tells us
these are "the children of light, and the children of the day".
Praise
the Lord!
I think these individual spiritual lights are `good' lights, in the
eyes of God, and I think some have been shining in the midst of the
spiritual darkness of the world since the day of Pentecost; shining
like the stars in heaven in the spiritual darkness of this world.
However, just as there are harmful rays in physical light, I think
there
are harmful `rays' of spiritual light. We know some of them, the
spirits of envy, jealousy, infirmity, fear, etc. As a result, those
in
whom the good spiritual light is shining, are exposed to light that is
not good, light that will harm them, spiritually. Therefore they
must,
consciously, put on the whole armor of God then, like the stars in
heaven, just stand. The day is coming when God will gather all the
lights that have shone in the past, along with those that are shining
at
the time He comes, and take them to heaven. He will leave 144,000
lights to give light during the seven year tribulation period and send
another two `lights' to witness during the last half of the seven
years. Then, at the end of the seven years, those lights will be
taken
to heaven and there will be a brief period during which spiritual
darkness will predominate on the earth. Praise the Lord!
Finally, for 1,000 years, there will be an evening of spiritual light,
a
night, before the dawning of God's new day, in which there will be no
darkness at all. God will create the new heaven and the new earth
and,
when all is done, He will rest, and we will rest with Him, for
eternity. Praise the Lord !

Isaiah 45:18, "For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself
that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not
in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none
else."
in vain = tohu = empty
Therefore, in Gen 1:2, it became "without form, and void = tohu va bohu".
The heavens and the earth were created perfect in verse 1.

Looking Down from the mountain,
Moses saw the sins of the people!
When a Bible Teacher speaks of a mountain top experience, he is
referring to a great Spiritual experience with God. Reference to the
valleys in our lives reminds us of times not so good. Even when
referring to God, we say, God looks down on sin. We always look down
at sin, never look up to sin.
When Moses came off of Mount Sinai he looked down from the mountain
and saw the sins of the people, as they danced around the golden calf,
doing what demons always have people do, they were having orgies and
worshipping the Devil.
Today those who live in the hill country of Israel (Judea & Samaria)
are looking down and seeing the same activity in Tel-Aviv, and along
the low country of the Mediterranean coastline. Those who live in the
mountains of Samaria and Judea are for the most part observant Jews
who love God and worship Him daily. Only a very small percentage knows
the Messiah, but they know God, and they know the Messiah is coming
for them. Even in their blindness towards the truth of Messiah, Yeshua
(which God Himself has brought on them Rom. 11:) they are and have
been full of love for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But their
counter parts in the valley are still dancing around the golden calf.
The other day I was in a shop owned by a friend, who lives in Shillo,
he was listening to the news on the radio. He turns to me and says,
Jerry, they can´t be Jews, and Hitler must have had kids. He was
referring to the Peace Now people in Tel-Aviv, there were a couple
hundred of them protesting to get rid of the settlements in Samaria
and Judea. And of course the news media was giving them more coverage
than when 400,000 Jews who gathered in Jerusalem to keep Jerusalem
Jewish or when 600,000 gathered in Rabin Square in Tel-Aviv in protest
against the policy of Barak.
But nothing has changed; we are still looking in the valley and seeing
the sins of the people. Seeing them turn their backs on God, asking
for one more night of sinful parties. They are dancing around their
own golden calf of lust and greed, and they know not God. Yet they
call themselves Jews when they are not, they are the children of the
Devil.
The Devil has for thousands of years planned for his last and final
battle in Israel. He knows this is where he will finish his time on
earth, and he wants to prolong his days. He has found his man in
Yasser Arafat and has filled him with himself. The Devil has also very
carefully placed his men in the Israeli Government; men today who are
known to be evil, men like Shimon Peres and others. The stage is set
and the appearance of the anti-Christ is soon coming. And this world
will see evil like no man has ever seen. Yet we know that God hears
the prayers of the righteous and we have two ways to pray. To pray for
more time to reach others, or to bring the Messiah soon. But we should
also know that holy prayer never starts in our own mind, but in the
mind of God, for it is His Will we must pray not our own.
Every Believer should know that what happens here in Israel will and
does have a direct effect on the rest of the world. Those reading this
should also be aware for God is, or may be calling you to be part of
this ministry in Israel for end time ministry. For we must be ready
spiritually and in the natural, ready to be a witness to others in a
way that raises up the Messiah. The sacrifice being asked of us now
will be pale in comparison to what will be required in the near future.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for all of Israel, for Joel our son
in the IDF, and for this ministry and your part in it. Shalom, jerry

Prime Minister Sharon has some strong words against Yasser Arafat today in
interviews to be published in tomorrow's Newsweek. Some excerpts include:
"It
won't take long for Israel to start taking measures... The U.S. should include
Fatah on its list of terrorist organizations... Arafat is an obstacle to peace…
The situation has worsened, and Israel will not accept it." Asked if he thinks
he'll be able to sign an agreement with Arafat, Prime Minister Sharon said he
does not think that Israel can reach an agreement with a terrorist
organization.
Behind the tough talk, however, lurk strong American pressures on Sharon -

trip to the Middle East - to continue his restraint and begin counting the
"cooling-off period" towards implementation of the Mitchell Report. American
mediator William Burns alluded to this when he said he told Egyptian
President
Hosni Mubarak that the U.S. is committed to making progress in the
implementation of the Mitchell Report and to renewing negotiations as soon
as
possible. Speaking with reporters in Cairo today, Burns said that additional
measures must be taken to ease the lives of Palestinians.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon departed this afternoon for the United
States. He will stop in London on the way for a quick visit with his
British counterpart Tony Blair. Sharon and his entourage will remain in
the U.S. until the end of the week, and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres will fill
his place.
2. FLAMES OF P.A. VIOLENCE SIMMER
Palestinians threw a Molotov cocktail at a busload of children at the Yakir
junction this afternoon. No one was hurt in the attack, which occurred near
Yakir, west of Ariel in central Shomron… IDF soldiers thwarted another
attack
this afternoon when they neutralized an explosive device they found on a
route
used by IDF soldiers along the Israeli-Egyptian border. The soldiers saw the
suspicious object from afar and shot at it, causing its safe explosion... Later
today, Arabs shot at a car north of Ganim in the northern Shomron; no one
was
hurt, but bullets hit the car...
IDF forces frustrated an attempt by terrorist elements to infiltrate from
Gaza across the Green Line on Friday night. The soldiers shot at three
terrorists whom they noticed attempting to climb over a fence. They caught
two
of them, and later found the body of the third one. Four grenades and a pistol
were found in the cell's possession. A similar infiltration was thwarted
several hours earlier.
The police caught a busload of 62 Palestinian infiltrators along the
Afula-Jenin highway this afternoon. The Arabs had painted the vehicle to
make it look like an Egged bus, and one of the passengers even wore a
yarmulke for the occasion. All the passengers are presently being
interrogated, and it was found that ten of them have long been wanted for
questioning by the General Security Service… Rocks were thrown this
afternoon at a bus traveling along the Haifa-Akko highway…
3. RESIDENTS BEGIN PATROLS
The Israeli army continues to remove roadblocks and closures throughout
Judea and Samaria. Heavy Arab traffic has been noted particularly near
Ramallah. Residents in the nearby towns of Beit El and Ofrah began this
morning an armed civil patrol along the routes from their towns to
Jerusalem. Organizers say that they are not coming to replace the army,
but merely to provide the extra sense of security that the army is
currently not giving. The patrolling residents say they will not fire
unless fired upon.
In central Shechem today, a leading terrorist figure was killed in an
explosion that occurred as he was speaking in a public telephone
booth. The dead man was one of the heads of a Fatah group that has
claimed
responsibility for a long series of fatal terrorist roadside shootings. The IDF
would not comment on the incident.

4. TWO SOLDIERS BURIED TODAY
Sgt. Ophir Kitt, 19, of Jerusalem, was buried this afternoon in Mt. Herzl
Military Cemetery, and Sgt. Aviv Izak, 19, of Kfar Saba, was laid to rest
shortly afterwards in his hometown's military cemetery. The two were
killed on Friday when they went to offer help to a jeep stuck in the sand
in the Dugit area of northern Gaza, at the behest of Arabs standing
nearby. The jeep then exploded, killing the two and injuring a third
soldier who had remained in the army vehicle. Immediately after the blast,
the
IDF troops came under Palestinian gunfire.
Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said that the suicide terrorist had
planned to carry out a much larger attack within Green-Line Israel, and the
assumption is that when he got stuck, he decided to explode his charge on
the
two soldiers. The jeep had earlier been prevented from passing through a
roadblock that the army was in the midst of removing; the roadblock was
restored
after the attack. PA sources originally claimed that the two soldiers had died
in a training accident. The IDF strenuously denied this report, and noted that
Hamas had even taken responsibility for the killings. The IDF spokesman
acknowledged that the suicide terrorist was probably on his way to
perpetrate an
attack inside [pre-1967] Israel, and noted, "the fact that Israel is carrying
out its part in the Tenet Understandings and is removing checkpoints so as to
make life easier for the Palestinian residents aided the terrorist in his
intentions."
Ophir's father said that he spoke with his son 15 minutes before the
attack, and that his son told him, "Abba, I'm not afraid to die for the
country if I have to." The family lost their older son to cancer at age 16
eight years ago; one son, 16, now remains.
5. ARAFAT FREES DOLPHINARIUM TERRORISTS
"There is no better example of the cynical attitude of the Palestinian
Authority," and of Arafat himself, to acts of terror than their handling of the
Dolphinarium suicide slaughter that claimed 21 young lives. So wrote military
correspondent Ze'ev Schiff in Ha'aretz this past Friday. He recounted that
Israel's General Security Services quickly found out the names of two people
who
had dispatched the bomber, and although they presented their names to
Palestinian security leaders and requested that they be arrested, this did not
happen. Instead, the two were summoned for a conversation with PA
security
agents, admitted their involvement in the massacre, signed their consent not
to
carry out similar activities in the future - and were sent home! This, despite
the Tenet agreement stipulation that the PA arrest those responsible for
terrorism.
Voice of Israel Radio reported today in the name of German media sources
that Arafat had written a letter of congratulations to the family of the
Dolphinarium suicide bomber. Arafat reportedly wrote that the killer's
self-sacrifice is worthy of admiration.
6. STUDYING THE JERUSALEM TALMUD
The Daf Yomi Yerushalmi program entered its seventh cycle yesterday. Jews
around the world study a page of the Jerusalem Talmud every day, until
completing the entire work in approximately 4.5 years. Increased interest in
the Jerusalem Talmud has been noted of late in several yeshivot in Israel; for
instance, the Institute for Study of the Yerushalmi was recently established
by
the Harry Fischel-Ariel Institute in Jerusalem. Its scholars are preparing two
new commentaries on the Jerusalem Talmud: one is a line-by-line
explanation,
while the other is a more in-depth study. A daily study program for the
Babylonian Talmud has been in effect for over 70 years; untold tens of
thousands
of people around the world participate in this program, completing the Talmud
in
over 7 years.
7. EGYPTIANS ADMIT: SUICIDE PILOT BROUGHT DOWN PLANELOAD
OF PASSENGERS
Newsweek reports that Egyptian investigators have admitted, though not
publicly, that the reason for the crash of an EgyptAir flight two years ago was
the suicide of the pilot. Until now, Egyptian officials have always denied this
finding of American investigators regarding the crash, which killed 217
people.
No mechanical failure was ever found in the wreckage of the plane, and a
recording of the pilot's last words helped lead to the conclusion that the pilot
had decided to kill himself - as well as the other 216 people on board.
8. SHARON CALLS FOR UNITY - AND MONETARY HELP
The Ministerial Committee for Coordination with the Jewish Agency for
Israel, headed by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Agency Chairman Sallai
Meridor, convened this morning and heard Sharon's unity call to world
Jewry: "We have a shared fate," he said, "and I see unity, cooperation and
solidarity as vital for our future." He also made a plea for financial help,
in light of the large defense expenditures now facing Israel, as well as for
visits to Israel by world Jewry. The assembled Jewish community leaders
said
they would begin a global Jewish solidarity campaign with Israel that will
include visits to Israel, the dissemination of information, and fundraising, "so
as to enable every Jewish home around the world to actively express
solidarity
and share the burden with Israelis."

MK Mossi Raz (Meretz), former head of Peace Now, agrees that the
residents of
Yesha are here to stay - more or less. He noted that although his figures say
that some 300-400 families have left Judea and Samaria in the past several
months, about 1,500 families are planning to move in over the summer. He
therefore calls upon the Palestinians to "understand that you have no chance
of
scaring the settlers away via terrorism" - although he does not rule out a
negotiated evacuation...
MK Avraham Hirschson (Likud) plans to file suit against Yasser Arafat in
the International War Crimes Court in Belgium next week and ask for his
arrest. "I will have no problem proving Arafat's responsibility for the
murderous shooting attacks of the past months," he said. "Arafat gave the
orders to his Force 17 unit and other PA groups." The MK said that his move
comes in response to the suit against Prime Minister Sharon filed by
survivors
of the Sabra and Shatila massacres perpetrated by Christian Phalangists...
Foreign Minister Shimon Peres has contacted the Peruvian authorities to
offer aid as they deal with the aftermath of yesterday's earthquake. Some 50
people were killed, and 90% of the buildings in the stricken area collapsed.
10. WHO'S COMING TO ISRAEL
Fifty members of Emunah of America will be arriving for a weeklong
Solidarity Mission to Israel on July 9. They will visit beleaguered
communities in Judea and Samaria.
Small schools in the south: All four seniors of the Temima High School
for Girls (Beis Yaacov of Atlanta) will be attending seminaries in
Israel. Similarly, all four seniors of the Feinstone Yeshiva of the South in
Memphis, plus one junior, will be attending Israeli yeshivot next year.
Eighteen post-college age participants will take part in the Jewish Agency
Aliyah Department WUJS summer program in Arad, west of the Dead Sea.
The
program includes Hebrew and Jewish studies as well as work placement.
74 out of 80 graduating students of the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach,
New York,
will be spending a year of study in Israel.

New electronic circuit simulates brain activity
A new electronic circuit can mimic the activity of the brain and may one day
be
used to create computers that think more like humans, scientists said.
The cerebral cortex of the brain, the centre of human intelligence, is an
intricate network of neurons that contain unusual feedback loops.
Scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Lucent
Technologies' Bell Labs in New Jersey and the Institute of Neuroinformatics in
Zurich have created an electronic circuit similar to the brain's neural system.
It consists of artificial neurons that communicate with each other via
synapses, or junctions where they connect, in a system that could lead to
the development of computers that could perform perceptual tasks such as
sight recognition.
"Unlike electronic circuits, the neural circuits of the cortex contain many
feedback loops," H Sebastian Seung, of MIT, said in a statement
Wednesday.
"But neuroscientists have found that cortical feedback seems to operate in a
way
that is unfamiliar to today's electronic designers. We set out to mimic this
novel mode of operation in an unconventional way."
The brain processes both analog and digital signals. When a car
approaches, for
example, the brain receives and processes information about its colour, size
and
distance, but the digital component is still there because the brain makes an
either/or decision about whether or not it is a car.
In a report published Thursday in the science journal Nature, the
researchers explained that when multiple signals are fed to two artificial
neurons, the circuit responds to one stimulus and suppresses its response
to the
other.
The scientists also added an inhibitory neuron in their circuit which
controls the signals and keeps feedback in check.
"The electronic world is evolving more and more toward mixed
analogue/digital computation as the brain has already done. However, the
brain's mixed-signal circuits combine analogue and digital functions in a
much more intimate way than is done in the electronic world," said MIT's
Rahul Sarpeshkar, who worked on the project.

preparing to hit US and Israeli interests around the world, the Arab television
channel, the Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC) said Saturday. "I met
with bin Laden near Kandahar (Afghanistan) over the last few days and his
main supporters said in front of him that there will be a big surprise over the
next two weeks," the MBC correspondent said. Among the bin Laden
supporters quoted were Abu Hafs, considered as bin Laden's right-hand man,
and Ayman al-Zawahirit, the leader of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
The United States on Friday ordered its war fleet in the Gulf to put to sea
because of credible threats of terrorist actions, and published a worldwide
warning for US citizens travelling abroad.

Sun Jun 24,2001 -- A technology that uses a magnetic balloon to sail ionized
particles shed by the Sun could speed humans to the Jovian moons in less
than 2 years and push a probe past Voyager 1 to become the first spacecraft
beyond our Solar System. The low-cost Mini-Magnetosphere Plasma
Propulsion, or M2P2, propels spacecraft at speeds far greater than today's
chemical and even ion propulsion systems, and its magnetic-field sail would
even protect travelers from deadly solar and Jovian radiation. "The technology
seeks to do what space does -- deploy a magnetized sail to travel with the
winds," says University of Washington scientist Robert Winglee, who came
up with the idea after 10 years as a geophysicist studying Earth inside and
out to its radiation environment.
The Sun is constantly shedding high-speed particles, called the solar wind,
that race out from it at speeds averaging 800,000 mph (400 km/sec). If M2P2
were used for a mission to the Jovian moon Europa, it would take only 1.5
years to arrive. Using conventional chemical propulsion, such a trip could
take 5 years. The system can make a craft travel at speeds 10 times as fast
as the space shuttle, up to 180,000 mph (50 km/sec). At that rate, an M2P2
spacecraft could catch up with Voyager 1, currently the furthest man-made
object in space at 7.5 billion miles (12 billion kilometers) from Earth, before it
reaches the edge of the Solar System.
SPACE.com Founder Lou Dobbs introduced Winglee at the ceremony,
saying, "This technology may enable us to establish a permanent presence
in space, something existing technologies will not allow us to do." There are
hopes that M2P2 soon will be used on a couple smaller experiments or even
missions in NASA's New Millennium Program, which focuses on speeding
up space exploration by validating new technologies in flight.

Sun Jun 24,2001 -- A robotic NASA explorer is poised to set sail next
month, July 30th, on a mission to catch the solar wind and then return to
Earth with a representative sampling of the primordial stuff that seeded the
solar system. The spacecraft will blast off in late July for a distant space
harbor where conditions remain much the same as those at hand when the
solar system formed. Pristine material tossed off the turbulent sun then will
be snatched up before the spacecraft swings back by Earth, flinging a
sample return capsule toward a daring helicopter recovery over the Utah
desert in September 2004.
"We´re looking at the beginnings," said Richard Bennett, a mission systems
engineer with NASA´s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. "The
focus here is to try to gather information about how the solar system
formed." The spacecraft, also named "Genesis" will be flying some 1 million
miles (1.5 million km) away from Earth. Then it will spend the next 2 years
cruising outside the influence of the planet´s magnetic field, sweeping
through pure solar wind with a set of sophisticated collectors.
8.1 Quake Kills at Least 47 in Peru (update)

Sun Jun 24,2001 -- A powerful earthquake hit Peru Saturday. The quake's
preliminary magnitude was a 7.9. USGS has this now listed as a magnitude
8.1 quake. Peru rushed aid to cities and towns Sunday after the enormouse
quake toppled adobe homes and stone buildings, and killed about 40-50
people, as well as leaving thousands too terrified to return home amid
recurring aftershocks. One of the aftershocks was as high as 6.2. In
Arequipa, the country's 2nd largest city, dozens of homes were flattened and
chunks of ornate stone architecture were strewn in the streets of the colonial
center. One steeple fell from the city's historic cathedral. More than 850
people were injured in the region. Worshippers held Mass outdoors Sunday
after a tense night of aftershocks.
Peru's Geophysical Institute said Sunday that 106 aftershocks had occurred
since the initial quake. A landslide blocked the main road into Moquegua, 62
miles SE of Arequipa, hampering efforts to deliver emergency food and
medicine to the devastated city, where 80 percent of the houses seriously
damaged or flattened. The powerful quake rocked the region for more than 60
seconds. A doctor in the small coastal town of Camana said 14 people
drowned and more than 30 were injured after Saturday's quake caused a tidal
surge that washed more than a half-mile inland over rice and sugarcane
fields. Many people camped out in parks and in the streets of Arequipa
overnight despite the frigid 41 degree temperatures. Arequipa lies 7,670 feet
above sea level, so temperatures often drop below freezing at that altitude
during this time of year, considered Peru's ``winter'' season.
Aftershocks were hitting about every 15 or 30 minutes, rattling the houses
and buildings over and over again. The powerful quake also rattled residents
in Lima and was felt in Bolivia, 260 miles east of the epicenter, and in Chile,
225 miles SE. Peru is intermittently shaken by earthquakes.

Sun Jun 24,2001 -- After rumbling for 5 months, Philippine's Mayon volcano
erupted Sunday in fountains of bright red lava and towering clouds of ash as
car-sized boulders tumbled down its slopes. One massive explosion from the
Mayon volcano spewed ash more than 9 miles high, with continuous
columns of nearly 2,000 feet. Visibility dropped to near zero within hours as
the enormous mushroom cloud began to settle, turning the green landscape
gray. Depending on lava flow, as many as 60,000 could be forced to
evacuate.
With the threat of rain remaining in the wake of a tropical storm, concerns
rose over the possibility of flows of mud and ash like those that buried a town
and killed 1,200 people in the volcano's worst known eruption in 1814. The
SE portion of the crater also showed visible signs of weakening Sunday and
may give way in days, loosing more lava down the slope of the volcano,
scientists said. And Eduardo Laguerta, resident vulcanologist, said a lava
dome about 100 feet wide had formed on the crater. Collapsed domes have
continuously been expelling rocks and pyroclastic flows superheated clouds
of volcanic ash that travel down a volcano's slopes at up to 50 mph which
instantly incinerate anything in their path. Audible explosions shook the
ground more than 8 miles away as officials were preparing emergency
shelters and evacuation plans.
The 8,118-foot Mayon, a well-known tourist attraction because of its near-
perfect conical shape, began acting up in January, but had been at alert level
3 of a possible 5 for weeks. After a brief 160-foot fountain of lava late
Saturday, authorities raised the alert to 4, then quickly put it at the highest
level of 5, early Sunday afternoon, meaning an eruption was in progress. The
volcano could spit lava and red-hot boulders for several days or even weeks.
Mayon, 200 miles SE of Manila, towers over farming communities in the
Bicol region. At least 47 eruptions have been recorded since 1616. The last,
in February 2000, forced some 68,000 people from their homes, while one in
1993 killed more than 70 villagers.

Philippine Volcano Spews Lava, Big Blast Feared
A Philippine volcano hurled out fountains of lava Saturday in what could be a
prelude to a major eruption, forcing thousands of villagers to flee their homes,
officials said. There were no immediate reports of casualties, they said.
The Philippine Institute of Vulcanology and Seismology said ''the explosive
discharge of lava'' reached heights of at least 160 feet and sent flaming rocks
and gases tumbling down the slopes of the 8,000-foot Mayon volcano. The
institute said it had raised the alert level around the volcano from three to
four, meaning "a hazardous, explosive eruption is possible within hours to
days.''
At least 5,000 villagers living in the shadow of the volcano in Albay province,
205 miles southeast of Manila, have fled their homes, provincial disaster
management chief Fredric Daep told Reuters.
The volcano, which has been restive since January, has a history of
eruptions, the deadliest occurring in 1814 when it buried a town under mud
and rocks and killed 1,200 people. It is one of 22 active volcanoes in the

U.S. Warns Allies Of Libyan Missile Threat
The United States has offered its proposed missile defense shield to NATO
allies in Europe to protect against intermediate-range missiles and
nonconventional weapons from nearby North Africa. U.S. sources said the
administration warned NATO allies in southern Europe that the most likely
threat comes from Libya.
The European response has been largely receptive, the officials said. They
said Italy and Spain have quietly welcomed the U.S. missile shield offer.
Spain is said to have offered to station a naval vessel off the Libyan coast to
detect missile launches from the North African country, Middle East
Newsline reported. A Spanish government decision is expected next week.
Libya, the officials said, has been developing an intermediate-range missile
capability with the help of North Korea. A shipment of North Korean missile
components headed for Libya was seized at London's Heathrow airport in
late 1999.
But U.S. officials said the missile shield would not be developed to merely
focus on the Libyan threat. Instead, the shield would be designed to respond
to a range of threats, including those from Iran, Iraq and North Korea. In each
region, the United States would work with allies to develop missile defense
capabilities.
The Madrid-based El Pais daily said Thursday that U.S. and Spanish
defense officials had discussed the plan for the monitoring of Libya during a
meeting in Washington last month. The newspaper said Madrid would use
the U.S. Aegis radar system on four of Spain's F-100 frigates.
The Aegis is said to be capable of detecting any launch in a range of 600
kilometers. U.S. ships would deploy the interceptors required to foil any

Nabil Sha'ath: Powell to Present Timetable For Mitchell Plan Palestinian
Authority minister Nabil Sha'ath said that on his visit to the region later this
week, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will present a timetable for the
implementation of the steps contained in the Mitchell report. Sha'ath, who
met Powell over the weekend in the U.S., and whose comments were
reported in the PA mouthpiece Al Ayyam, also said that the secretary of
state would try to forge agreement between the sides over the setting up of
an observer force that will oversee the implementation of the Mitchell report.
Amhed Qureia (Abu Ala), the Speaker of the Palestinian parliament, told
Palestine Radio on Sunday that he opposed a long cease-fire cooling-off
period which he said would destroy the diplomatic process. While Israel has
demanded a six-week cooling-off period, the Palestinians are insisting that it
last no longer than two weeks.
Abu Ala, whose comments were reported on Israel Radio, also said that the
U.S. had to pressure Israel to stop settlements, including natural growth.

Revealed: The Needless Slaughter of 2m Animals
Ministers ordered the slaughter of up to two million healthy animals despite
being told by their leading foot and mouth expert that the killing was not
needed to control the disease.
They went ahead with the cull on uninfected farms near outbreaks even
though they were told by a leading scientist at the Institute of Animal Health
that the scientific basis for it was "a total suspension of common sense".
Officials now admit that some of the assumptions that led to the cull may
have been wrong. But at the time, says Dr Paul Kitching – then head of foot
and mouth at the institute's Pirbright Laboratory, the world's leading centre
for research on the disease – his objections were ignored.
His revelations are bound to reignite the row over the scale of the slaughter.
Nick Brown, the then Agriculture Minister, insisted that his "every move" was

66 Dead in Hunan Floods
The death toll from floods and torrential rains in central China's Hunan
province has risen to 66. Officials say 46 people are still missing and 19 have
been seriously injured. In total, 210-thousand people were affected by the
torrential rains. Floodwaters have caused serious damage to factories and
mines, with total economic losses of 120 million U-S dollars. Last week, 100
people were said to have died in floods in the southwestern province of
Yunnan and Guangxi Zhuang region, as well as in neighbouring Guangdong

Iran to Experience Partial Lunar Eclipse on July 5
Iranians will have a chance to witness a partial eclipse of the moon on July 5,
announced Iran's Amateur Astronomers Association here Saturday. The
eclipse, which will be visible on the eastern horizon in the east and south of
the country, will begin soon after moon-rise at 18:13hrs local time (13:43hrs
GMT) and end at 20:45hrs local time (16:15hrs GMT). In Tehran, the
obscured moon will be visible only in areas not affected by air pollution. irna
Huge Crowds Due At Hindu Festival
Up to 25,000 people are expected to gather in central London for a major
Hindu festival on Sunday. The Rath Yatra is a 5,000-year-old event, which
commemorates Lord Krishna and is held annually in the Indian city of Puri.
It was first brought to London in 1968 and has grown into the largest annual
Hindu procession outside India. The organisers, the International Society for
Krishna Consciousness, hope it will one day surpass Notting Hill as
London's most popular carnival.
Highlight of the day will be thousands of people pulling a 50ft chariot - while
chanting "Hare Krishna" - from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square. The event will
culminate in a huge public festival where consecrated images of Lord
Jagannath, a form of the Indian god Krishna, will be placed at the base of
Nelson's Column. Free food, colourful floats, musicians, dancers, costumed
artists, bullock carts, stalls, music and plays will be among the attractions.

UN Body Seeks $77 Million in Aid For Palestinian Refugees
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees appealed on Friday for $77 million in
emergency aid to provide food, medicines and work for more than 200,000
refugee families in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The appeal, the third since a Palestinian uprising began in September, was
triggered by a slump in the Palestinian economy and the deterioration of
health and welfare services, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine
Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said.
"The impact of the violence and the Israeli blockade on Palestinian Authority-
controlled territory has been especially hard on the refugees," UNRWA said
in a statement.
The funds would in part finance emergency work programmes, providing
income for the jobless and helping to improve infrastructure in the refugee
communities, it said.
Some 100,000 Palestinian jobs in Israel have been lost due to the closure of
border crossings with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, UNRWA said.
The agency has been struggling with a severe cash shortage because
donations are some $67 million short of the regular annual budget

Paramilitary Group Threatens Ethnic Cleansing
As full-scale war threatens to erupt in the Balkan region -- the gateway to the
heart of Europe from the Near East -- a previously unknown paramilitary
group has emerged and is threatening another round of ethnic cleansing,
according to official Balkan sources.
The emergence of the latest paramilitary group to operate in the Balkan
region comes at a time when NATO is preparing to send troops into
Macedonia to assist the Macedonian government at the request of the
president of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovsky.
“Macedonia paramilitary 2000” issued a warning that it would begin
“cleansing villages” in Macedonia and that “only those who distance

Algeria Said To Be Cooperating With Iraq On Nukes
Algeria and Iraq are said to be cooperating in the development of nuclear
weapons. Western analysts said Iraq has sent Algeria quantities of uranium
for a secret nuclear program by the North African state. They said Algeria
could be close to achieving the capability in producing weapons-grade
plutonium.
Algeria has at least two nuclear reactors, both of them overseen by the
Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency. One reactor, believed
upgraded to 40 megawatts, was sold by China. The other was sold by
Argentina. But analysts said Algeria has withheld information from the IAEA.
"The IAEA does not have the authority to inspect all of the facilities at the
site, some of which are at the very center of the controversy over potential
plutonium production," the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists said in an article
authored by David Albright and Corey Hinderstein.
The United States has raised the issue with China but did not obtain
satisfactory answers. The Pentagon suspects Algeria is pursuing a nuclear
program while the State Department has concluded that there is insufficient

Kuwait Considers Professional Army
Kuwait is examining a proposal to convert its military into a professional
force no longer dependent on conscripts. Officials said the sheikdom's
defense chiefs have concluded that the draft of Kuwaitis has been ineffective.
They said the level of troops is low as many privileged Kuwaitis succeed in
evading conscription.
Instead, the government is examining the prospect of a force based on
career soldiers that could include foreigners. The proposal ensures that the
military would be able to operate and maintain advanced Western systems.
Currently, Kuwait hosts thousands of U.S. and British troops and trainers.
Kuwait, with a military of about 25,000 troops, has an indigenous population
of 825,000 and 1.4 million foreign residents. MENL

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon leaves today to meet with
US President George Bush and US Secretary of State
Colin Powell.
Sources in the US administration said the first half of the
$800 million aid package promised Israel during the term
of former president Bill Clinton will be released when
Israel implements steps outlined in the Mitchell
Commission report, according to Army Radio.
The funds reportedly are also reportedly being withheld
by the Americans in order not to give the impression the
US is one-sidedly supporting Israeli positions vis-a-vis
the Palestinians.
Following the suicide bombing that killed two soldiers
near Dugit in the Gaza Strip on Friday afternoon, Sharon
will both urge the US administration to pressure the
Palestinians to fulfill their cease-fire obligations, and say
that Israel's patience is running out.
