Israel Radio radio's monitor Mickey Gurdus reported this morning that
communications between the control tower at Ben Gurion Airport and planes
is being jammed by Arab music apparently originating from within the
Palestinian Autonomy. Gurdus played a recording of some of the music,
saying that this is the most powerful and serious jamming ever experienced
by the airport and it constitutes a serious safety hazard.
Gurdus noted that the control tower and the jammers are playing a "cat and
mouse game" as the tower switches frequencies to maintain
communications. The jamming interfered with communications also during
the emergency landing of a plane at the airport yesterday.

Organizers' Attorney Threatens To Bring High Court Petition
The Jerusalem police have formally refused to issue a permit for a mass
demonstration that was scheduled to be held this evening. The protest rally
was planned to take place outside the residence of M.K. Azmi Bishara in
the East Jerusalem village of Beit Chanina. The Balad Party leader ignited a
controversy last week over an anti-Israeli speech he made in Damascus
while meeting with Syrian and Hizbullah officials.
This past Thursday, the demonstration's organizers filed through their
attorney, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, a request for a permit to stage a mass
protest which would call on the government to revoke Bishara's citizenship.
At the meeting between Darshan-Leitner and the national police
commanders, the officers expressed their fear that allowing thousands of
Jews to enter Beit Chanina could touch off a new round of Arab rioting in
East Jerusalem. The police officials urged the organizers to relocate the
protest to an alternative location.
In their formal denial of the permit application, the police offered to allow the
demonstration to be held outside the Knesset. However, the protest's
organizers have dismissed this suggestion, insisting that there can be no
effective alternative site for the demonstration but right outside Bishara's
home. They intend to personally deliver their demand for Bishara's
citizenship to be stripped for his treasonous declarations. Under Israeli law
an individual's citizenship may be revoked if it is found that he has overtly
breached his loyalty to the state.
Yesterday, attorney Darshan-Leitner wrote the Jerusalem police asking that
they reconsider their denial of the permit request. If the police do not give
authorization for the demonstration the organizers have vowed that they will
challenge the decision in the High Court of Justice.
"In every instance that the police claim they fear violence they simply
surrender and refuse to grant a permit," said attny. Darshan-Leitner, "If
demonstrators want to gather outside a Knesset member's home and protest
his vile statements, the police cannot deny them this democratic right."

JERUSALEM (AP) - After a thousand years in pieces, an ancient
Roman obelisk stood proudly again Monday in the seaport of
Caesaria.
Weighing more than 100 tons and standing 40 feet high, the
obelisk was once the centerpiece of a Roman hippodrome, or open-air
stadium, in Caesaria. The obelisk was the central ornament of a
dividing wall in the middle of the stadium. Chariot races were run
around it.
The obelisk, found in three separate pieces, was put back
together with titanium pins and epoxy glue, said archaeologist
Yosef Porat.
The massive gray slab was originally chiseled into a four-sided
pillar, tapering off to a pyramid-shaped point. Missing pieces of
the obelisk were replaced with concrete to complete the
restoration.
Archaeologists estimate the obelisk toppled sometime between the
7th and 13th centuries, after the fall of the Roman empire and the
Muslim conquest of the region around the year 640.
Restoration of the obelisk was carried out by the Israel
Antiquities Authority's Department of Conservation.
Caesaria, a port dating back to Roman times, is now an Israeli
resort and upscale community decorated by artifacts from the Roman
period. A restored Roman amphitheater is used for concerts and
performances there.

GENEVA (JT) - The Jordanian delegation to the International Labour
Organisation (ILO) conference in Geneva is leading a pan-Arab drive to freeze
Israel's membership in the organisation in view of its disregard of UN
resolutions.
Adnan Abul Ragheb, a member of the Amman Chamber of Industry who is
attending the meetings, said Jordan and the Arab delegations to the
conference are exposing Israel's inhuman treatment of Palestinian workers
who are being deprived of means to earn a decent living, as part of Israel's
mass punishment imposed on the Palestinian people.

By conducting intensified efforts with other delegations, Jordan is hoping that

According to Abul Ragheb, Jordan's efforts in this matter have been
welcomed by countries in Eastern Asia, Europe, Africa, China and France.
In his address to the conference, Abul Ragheb urged the delegations to
reach a decision on providing sufficient funds for the rehabilitation and
reconstruction of Palestinian institutions and help the workers to regain their
livelihood . He said in view of Israel's noncommitment to UN resolutions
concerning Palestinians and its continued occupation of Palestinian , Syrian
and Lebanese territories the Arab groups are demanding that Israel's
membership in the organisation be frozen.

Government to privatise air?
Well, the airwaves to be precise...
The government body responsible for the future of the radio spectrum has
published a consultation paper today - and top of the agenda is the
effective 'privatisation' of the airwaves.
Radio spectrum is currently allocated in a number of different ways, but
any organisation which now owns the rights to a portion of spectrum does
not have the right to sell it directly to someone else.
In other words, it is far from being a free market.
The Radio Spectrum Management Review will look at setting up a system
that allows the rights over certain parts of the spectrum to be freely
traded as if they were an ordinary commodity, such as energy or paper.
Martin Cave, professor of economics and vice principal at Brunel
University, who is leading the review, said: "It's definitely on the
agenda."
The discussion in the UK hasn't currently got as far as a full-scale
privatisation of the entire spectrum, but such a move has been proposed
in the US.
In 1995 the Progress and Freedom Foundation (PFF), closely linked to
former Republican speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich,
published a report calling for the conversion of the entire
electromagnetic spectrum into freely tradable "real estate", and the
abolition of the US telecoms regulator, the Federal Communications
Commission.
The Radio Spectrum Management Review has consulted with the PFF on this
matter, Cave confirmed.
Free speech opponents have attacked the notion of effectively
privatising the spectrum. Prominent among them are Jeremy Rifkin,
president of the Foundation on Economic Trends think-tank in Washington
DC.
Rifkin sees a future in which the majority of the spectrum is
monopolised by a few powerful corporations - he named Vivendi Universal,
Silvio Berlusconi's Fininvest, AOL Time Warner, Disney and News
Corporation as examples.
Citing the growing importance of wireless communications, he said: "They
would effectively dictate the terms on which the rest of us communicate.
"This battle is going to be as bitterly fought as the battle over who
controls the human gene pool," he added. "The human genome should be
held in trust for humanity, and the same should happen to the radio
spectrum."
Rifkin fears the question may eventually become a "free trade issue,"
with the US government using the WTO as a lever to force other nations
to privatise radio spectrum in their own territories.
For Martin Cave, however, a system for the free trading of privately
held or licensed spectrum is simply the best way to make sure it is used
as efficiently as possible.
Of tradable licences, he said: "If a portion of the spectrum is not
being allocated sensibly, then the body which owns it can lease it to
someone who can use it - generating revenue for them, and making that
resource available to someone else. It's a classic win-win situation."
The main obstacle to the privatisation of the airwaves is the small size
of the UK, and the closeness of its neighbours. Many areas of spectrum
cannot be used in one territory without the risk of spilling over into a
neighbouring one - so new ways of managing them will have to be
developed on a Europe-wide basis.
Certain areas of the spectrum, such as the 100 GHz band, can be used in
a highly localised way, and could be 'privatised' on a national basis.
This area is ideal for high data rate point-to-point communications.
Dr Jim Norton, currently head of ebusiness policy at the Institute of
Directors, who worked on the allocation of the 3G licences, suggests
that this area is a likely first stop for the introduction of tradable
licences.
The review is due to publish its findings by the end of the year."

While Israel Radio diplomatic correspondent Yoni Ben Menachem reported
this
morning that the main reason Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has decided to
continue
with the unilateral cease-fire is that he is going to Washington next week,
there are many other reasons to continue with the current situation:
+ At the start of Oslo, Shimon Peres explained that the settlers would only
be a problem in the short run. The expectation that the settlers would run
for their lives has not, however, panned out and in fact Jewish population
growth rates in Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip has consistently
outstripped most areas within the Green Line. Families tend to change their
place of residence during the summer to avoid disturbing the school year.
Continued attacks against Jews over the summer may finally succeed in
breaking
their spirit and convince many to leave.
+ The longer the violence continues, the greater the possibility that some
settlers decide to take the law into their own hands. Such activity can be
used as part of a program to strip the settlers of public support. The ideal
result would be if a new "Jewish underground" group forms (with or without the
help of another Avishai Raviv) whose members can then be arrested. If
played
properly, the arrests, arraignments, trials and spillover can support a
campaign
against the settlers and their supporters for months.
+ The longer the violence continues, the greater the chance that Israel
ultimately finds itself expected to enunciate what "compromises" it is
willing to offer. And once these positions are spelled out, Israel will find
that any support it may have gained for enduring the violence will evaporate.
Rising world pressure will help FM Peres and others to convince their
exhausted
colleagues to make even greater concessions.
+ Under the current Sharon plan, that supports selective closure, the
Jericho casino should open any day now, to the financial benefit of many
interested parties.
There are also "fair play" reasons not to go to war at this time:
+ There is a large joint American-Turkish-Israeli air exercise taking place
now in Turkey within close proximity to Syria. It would not be fair to
attack the Palestinians now because the joint US-Turkish-Israeli force would
deter intervention by Syria and other Arabs states.
+ The Iraqis have not yet received delivery of most of the tank transporters
that they ordered recently, making it harder for them to come to the
Palestinian's aid.
+ In the summer suicide bombers wearing coats have a hard time fitting into
a crowd. This makes it harder for the Palestinians to respond to a decisive
attack with a wave of bombing.

Sabra-Chatila survivors sue Sharon in Belgium for crimes against humanity

Survivors of a 1982 massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Chatila
refugee camps in Lebanon opened legal proceedings yesterday in Belgium
against Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, arguing that he was guilty of
crimes against humanity for his role in the killings.
The 28 survivors presented their case against Sharon and others alleged to
have been involved in the massacres to an investigating judge.
Under Belgian law, war crimes committed abroad may be tried in Belgian
courts.
At the time of the massacres, Sharon was Israel's defense minister, and
Beirut, at the outskirts of which lay the two refugee camps, was under Israel
Defense Forces siege.
Lebanese Christians Phalangist militiamen, who were allied with Israel,
carried out the killings of hundreds of unarmed civilians following the
assassination of Lebanon's president-elect, Bashir Gemayel, a pro-Israel
Christian and leader of the Phalangists.
Belgian lawyer Michael Verhaeghe, who is representing the survivors, said
there was sufficient evidence to convict those responsible.
"The facts in this case undeniably reveal crimes against humanity," he told
reporters.
A 1993 Belgian law that gives local courts jurisdiction over violations of the
Geneva war crimes convention allows claimants to seek cases against
foreigners suspected of war crimes no matter where they occurred.
Four Rwandans were sentenced to between 12 and 20 years in jail this
month for their role in the 1994 genocide of the country's Tutsi ethnic
minority.
If the Belgian judge decides to press charges, Sharon could be arrested if he
enters Belgium. However, lawyers said as a serving head of state he would
likely enjoy immunity.
The plaintiffs said they could also press similar charges against Sharon in
other countries.
On Sunday, the British Broadcasting Corporation aired a report on the
program Panorama, in which the massacres were investigated and Sharon
was presented as "the accused."
An expert on international law, Princeton University Professor Richard Falk,
who served as vice chairman of an international commission that investigated
Israel's invasion of Lebanon, said that Sharon would be indictable on war
crimes charges.
Israel's Foreign Ministry called the BBC report distorted, unfair, and
intentionally hostile.
"The timing of the program ... shows lack of good faith and an attempt to
tarnish Israel and its leader," Foreign Ministry spokesman Yaffa Ben-Ari said
in a written statement.
Sharon himself refused yesterday to comment on the BBC program.

Panel passes bill allowing inciting violence against terror suspect

The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee yesterday passed the
second and third reading of a bill that includes an article that decriminalizes
inciting a lynch mob to against a suspected terrorist.
The article is part of a bill being prepared by the committee on incitement to
violence in Israel. It generally seeks more severe punishment for such
incitement, setting a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
Justice Minister Meir Sheetrit, Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein, and
State Prosecutor Edna Arbel tried to dissuade the committee's MKs from
passing the bill, to no avail.
Sheetrit said a bill that legalizes attacking a suspected member of a terrorist
organization "is a very dangerous measure that undermines democracy and
basic human rights in our country. It accomodates 'field trials' ... and even a
lynching or sentencing to death by a mob that suspects someone is a
terrorist."
Five of the MKs supporting the bill were Shaul Yahalom (National Religious
Party), Nissim Zeev (Shas), Yuval Steinitz (Likud), Yosef Lapid (Shinui) and
Yael Dayan (Labor). Against it were the chairman of the committee, Ophir
Pines-Paz (Labor), Nehama Ronen (Center) and Anat Maor (Meretz).
Sheetrit said he intends to propose removing this article when the bill is
brought to the Knesset plenum for a vote in the next few days. Sheetrit,
Rubinstein and Arbel did manage to change one article in the bill making it
possible to charge those suspected of inciting violence.
Sheetrit said the original wording of the article prevented authorities from
indicting suspects of incitement - because police had to prove "with near
certainty" that the incitement would have led to an act of violence. The article
was changed to "with reasonable possibility.

Bishara says he will ignore court order

Balad MK Azmi Bishara was presented with a court order when he arrived in
Israel yesterday at the Sheikh Hussein Bridge. It summoned him to appear
tomorrow at the international crimes investigation unit in Petah Tikva to
answer questions about his recent visit to Syria.
At a press conference in Nazareth yesterday, Bishara said he will ignore the
summons because "the scheduling does not suit me." If Bishara does not
show up in Petah Tikva, the police will have to seek the involvement of
Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein to have Bishara's parliamentary
immunity revoked.
Bishara returned from nine days in Syria, where he attended a memorial for
the anniversary of the death of Syrian President Hafez Assad. During his
stay in Damascus Bishara addressed Arab leaders known for their
opposition to Israel and the peace process with the Palestinians, and called
on the Arabs to unite in their "resistance" to Israel.
Bishara's comments outraged Israeli MKs and Attorney General Elyakim
Rubinstein ordered a police investigation against the Israeli Arab leader. The
police intend to interrogate Bishara on suspicion of making contact with
foreign agents, harming the security of Israel, and violations related to a
failure to prevent terrorist actions.
During the press conference yesterday, Bishara sharply charged the
"collaboration of journalists and the media in an incitement campaign against
me and my party." Bishara said his speech in Damascus was distorted
deliberately by journalists and politicians to serve their own interests.
"What happened is a very ugly thing and I do not retract my statements," he
said.
Bishara described his visit to Syria as very successful and insisted that
nothing of what he said in Damascus was any worse than statements he has
already uttered in Israel.
"I am sorry I could not be here to respond in person to the incitement against

PLAGUES of locusts are devastating crops from Central Asia
to the American Midwest, sending farmers to the book of
Exodus for salvation.
Not since the Egyptians incurred the wrath of God have so
many locusts had their day. A billion-strong army is on the
move, stretching far beyond the more normal swarming grounds
of Africa and the Middle East and threatening central
Eurasia´s arable land in a pincer movement from each end of
the Caspian Sea.
In China, hundreds of thousands of ducks are being flown to
the northwest where locusts are taking over vast dried-out
grasslands — in the worst affected areas of Xinjiang
province up to 10,000 inhabit one square metre.
The ducks are trained by government handlers to feed on the
locusts — they can reportedly eat a pound of them a day —
and are then flown to the afflicted region. The Government
says it is more environmentally friendly than using planes
to spray pesticides.
Southern Russia´s worst plague of locusts in 40 years is
meanwhile advancing north by several miles a day and will
start spreading ten times faster if not contained within a
week, officials have said.
Yesterday the swarm was confined to a 170,000-acre swath of
farmland in Dagestan near the Caspian Sea — an area about
twice the size of the Isle of Wight — but it had destroyed
30,000 acres of wheat and was eating everything in its path,
making the situation critical, according to the Emergency
Situations Ministry in Moscow.
The insects have hopped and walked inland from the Kuma
River estuary like grasshoppers. But experts called to the
scene said that they would grow wings within a week, if
allowed to, and would then be able to fly up to 30 miles a
day.
In America, too, an agricultural emergency has been declared
in Utah, where the “Mormon crickets” have so far caused $25
million of damage to crops.

Is Jesus the only way to salvation? The Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
(PCUSA) couldn't decide yesterday during a meeting in Louisville, Ky., of its
General Assembly, the denomination's governing body, "The Dallas Morning
News" reported.
The nation's largest Presbyterian denomination debate was "long and
passionate but orderly and polite," the newspaper said. But a majority of the
more than 500 delegates, called commissioners, rejected a proposal that
said Jesus is the lone path to salvation. "If salvation isn't singular through
Jesus, that would mean it is plural," said Jeff McDonald of the Missouri
Valley Presbytery. "If it is plural, who are the other deities we are talking
about?"
A substitute proposal was later approved, stating that "assurance" of
salvation is found "only in confessing Christ and trusting Him alone," the
"Morning News" reported. The statement, however, didn't exclude other
roads to salvation. "We are at a critical point in our denomination," Catherine
Purves of the Pittsburgh Presbytery said. "It is well-known that there is a
debate among us on the meaning of Jesus Christ." The clash between
conservatives and liberals was expected to intensify today, when
commissioners were due to consider a proposal on allowing ordination of
gay clergy. This spring, the PCUSA voted to reject a measure that would
have banned pastors from performing same-sex union ceremonies.

Digital Angel chief scientist is Dr Peter Zhou counts among his patents
anti-shoplifting tag systems -- "US5146204: Theft detection apparatus
and flattened wire target and method of making same" and "US5029291:
Electromagnetic sensor element and methods and apparatus for making and
using same". His former employer, Knogo, holds 38 patents over similar
technologies, all related to tracking things, usually via surreptitious
means.
There is nowhere on Digital Angel's site where it says it will not
introduce similar implants for people. If it will never introduce them,
let that be declared to the market. But it appears Destron Fearing was
bought specifically for these patents.

For Dr. Lawrence Webber to say there are no plans for implant trackers
in humans in the followup article is not consistent with the company's
strategy to acquire intellectual property. You don't pay $130 million
for a company for its intellectual property and then not use it.

It may be good begin this report with a statement. “Most Israelis and
most Jews for that matter are good people, they are honest,
trustworthy, hard-working, and they love their country, and they most
of all love their God.” Now why did I feel it necessary to say that?
Because this report and the one I will forward to you will expose
Israeli Governmental corruption like I have never seen before.
But as Believers we know what is really happening, that being the
setting of the stage for the anti-Christ. And the preparation for a
war like this land has never seen before or will ever see again. Over
the past 53 years there has been a diabolical plan so evil and corrupt,
and it comes straight from the pits of Hell. It seems that God has the
ability to move Jewish people into the position He wants them in
easier than any other people on earth. And history bears record of
that.
I will forward a report from Barry Chamish and not go over much of the
same things myself. First I will give you a short report of what´s
happening on the ground here in Israel.
It just came across the Israeli News that Arafat has been given 24
hours to get his act together or Israel will take military action.
There is one thing I have noticed about Arafat, “When the going gets
tough, Arafat gets going” He has left the country for one of his
visits to all the EU and Arab Nations, and usually that means things
are about to start happening here in Israel. I am convinced that he is
told to move, or to be sure to stay in a certain spot in order not to
get hit. Believe me when I tell you there is something not kosher in
all of this.
Last night 6 mortar shells were fired into Jewish Settlements no one
was killed by any of them, thank God. However the Palestinians did
kill two Israeli last night and wounded three others, the two killed
were both once again living in Samaria and Judea. In fact, in the past
6 days since the so-called cease-fire there have been 64 violations by
the Palestinians. There was several other shooting on the high ways
where cars were hit, but no injuries reported.
One of the things I find almost to terrible to even report, is this
CIA Director Tenet, is the same Tenet who agreed with Shimon Peres to
train Palestinians to be snipers. Dozens of them were sent to the US
in 94 and were trained by the CIA. These are the same guys killing us
today, and more to the point are killing the Jewish Settlers in
Samaria and Judea and Gaza. When you read the Chamish report that I
will send you all this may make a little more sense to you.
Over the past few days the Palestinians have been interfering with
Israeli airwaves that guide and control our aircraft. There was a near
disaster last night as a flight from Elate had to make an emergency at
the Tel Aviv air port and couldn´t make radio contact. This is very
troubling when you consider they also have acquired had held ground to
air missiles. And could be testing things out for the big day. Which
isn´t far away, considering the way things look.
There are demonstrations and protest out side Sharon´s home and the
Knesset every day and they are growing and getting louder. On the
roads in Samaria and Judea Settlers are blocking roads and not
allowing Palestinians to travel, saying if we can´t use them without
being killed by you, you can´t use them at all.
I will close because the Chamish report is 2 or 3 pages and you should

reports and a couple of his books. He has something to say, and many
are beginning to listen.

COUP AGAINST PERES PLANNED IN WASHINGTON by Barry Chamish
For the past two days, leaders of the Council On Foreign Relations
(CFR) have been meeting with Labor MK Avraham Burg in Washington to
plan a political coup against Shimon Peres, the leader of the Labor
Party and its most powerful cabinet member. The CFR sent CIA head
George Tenet to Israel last week to threaten PM Sharon with deadly
consequences if he interferes with the plan to destroy the settler
movement by the end of the summer.Tenet was pleased by the successes
of the PLO murder squads he had trained in Virginia but was most
disturbed by reports of Shimon Peres's mental condition. He was
informed that Peres was cracking under the strain of fear that his
organization of Yitzhak Rabin's assassination was being widely exposed.
He was subject to irrational bursts of anger and even his public
statements were becoming increasingly nutty. Before he even returned
to Washington, Tenet recommended Peres's immediate removal.
Avraham Burg has been long groomed for power by the CFR. His father,
Yosef Burg, served longer than anyone in the Israeli cabinet,
beginning in Ben Gurion's days, and trained his son well where the
real sources of political power lie. The CFR believe that it can
repeat the success they had in electing Ehud Barak with Burg. They
view him as a young, nominally religious candidate with potentially
wide appeal, who can take over where Barak left off when Sharon is
ousted from power. As a religious Jew, he would be held blameless for
the disintegration of Jewish villages in their ancient homeland. Burg
had meetings with Colin Powell (CFR) and National Security Advisor,
Condoleezza Rice (CFR) to outline the coup plans. To overwhelm him
with the seriousness of the plot, additional meetings were arranged
for Burg with Bill Clinton (CFR) and Sen Hillary Clinton.
The top leadership of the CFR have concluded that Peres must go,
willingly or not, and well before his role in the Rabin murder becomes
a national scandal the likes of which Israel has not seen before. It
is essential that Burg be placed in power before that day comes and
vast cash resources will be thrown at a Burg campaign to, first, take
over the leadership of Labor and then the country. The CFR realizes
that time is running out on their obsessive goal of ridding Judea,
Samaria and Gaza of Jews. They are amazed that these people have not
caught on to who is behind the covert war against them, and still
believe their government and army has an interest in protecting them.
However, great pains are being taken to keep the ignorance intact.
A delegation of American presidents of major Jewish organizations is
touring Israel, concurrent with the Burg talks. It is led by one Mort
Zuckerman, who is not only a CFR member but was on the board of the
notorious CFR Middle East Task Force Report of July, 1997, which
demanded that Israel's borders be reduced to those of 1948, with half
of Jerusalem handed over to the PLO. Zuckerman submitted a dissenting
opinion of the report's conclusions but one should not view that fact
as anything more than window dressing. He is as aware as anyone of the
CFR/CIA's plot against the settlers and is in Israel maintaining
control of any objections to it raised by his delegation of American
Jewish leaders. Unless the settlers miraculously awaken from their
delusions and protect themselves bravely and intelligently, they have
no more of a chance to continue their lifestyle than the other victims
of CFR/NWO manipulations like the Afrikaaners, Rhodesians, Serbs etc.
Their ONE AND ONLY longterm chance is to exploit the opportunities
offered by those who are exposing the ghastly crimes of their enemies
within Israel.
They're Talking Update
Those who read the claims of the Shabak informants in my last posting,
They're Talking, will be pleased to learn that the information is
being confirmed, despite a couple of tiny errors in my transcription
which I will point out now. Asher Zuckerman, publisher of Kol
Hashavuah confirms that a few weeks after the Rabin murder, he was
about to publish a report about the murder of two of Rabin's
bodyguards. His backer was approached with a threat to his life and he
shut down the newspaper. Later it reopened with a new name. The
informants were exactly right. Yehuda Miller of Maale Levana (not
Levanim as I wrote) did photograph Avishai Raviv in criminal action
and he was fired from Israel Police. The informants were right but
forgot to add that as a sweetener for his silence, a job as
photographer for the weekly magazine Mishpakha was arranged for him.
He still holds the position.
A correspondent went to the 100 block of HaChoresh Blvd. (not Coresh
as I misheard) in Ramot and confirmed that a villa matching the
description of the Shabak interrogation and surveillance center the
informants reported, does exist. And because the information is
proving accurate, suspicions have been raised by the murder of a
Military Intelligence/Shabak colonel, Yehuda Edri, two days after the
posting was released. For one day, both Haaretz and Hatsofe published
the truth of the assassination, then they stopped. Edri met his Arab
informer outside Jerusalem and was shot by him. This should not have
happened. Edri was travelling with two bodyguards. Neither searched
the informer before he approached Edri. In fact, neither left the car
to take up protective positions. The bodyguards let Edri get murdered.
One bodyguard was shot by a bullet aimed at Edri, while the assailant
chose not to shoot a seemingly helpless bodyguard seated in the
backseat of the car. He shot and killed the informer.
The informer's employer wrote a personal piece published on the front
page of the Jerusalem Post. She described an Arab sick of PLO
corruption with no fight against the Israelis. She concluded that he
was not a murderer type and that his family must have been threatened.
Edri was a religious Jew living in the "settlement" of Maaleh Adumim.
He was assassinated under most suspicious circumstances. We hope it
was not because someone thought he was one of the people who passed on
the information in, They're Talking. He wasn't, at least not directly.
The real informants have not contacted me again, as they promised, so
I searched my notes for quotes I chose not to include the previous
posting. I rejected most because the informants admitted they were
just rumors. One, however, should have been included. I was told the
Shabak took over Yigal Amir's police investigation right after the
murder and staged the filmed interrogation of Amir with his forced
cooperation. This wasn't included because it was previously reported
in Natan Gefen's book Fatal Sting and oft-repeated since. Still, this
is confirmation. Of the uncertain claims:
Source 1 - "While on the topic of the Kahalani brothers, you should
know they had a brother in the army who start mouthing off about how
the Shabak framed his brothers. He died of a 'suicide,' though no one
I know of in the service believes that's what happened." Source 1 -
"I've heard that a few agents are assigned to covering up forest fires.
When the PLO want concessions from the government, they burn down
Israeli forests. There is barely a tree left on the Tel Aviv/Jerusalem
highway and Rabin's government hid the arson from the public. Now
they're working on the Galilee, burning down those forests the same
way. To cover this up, we identified a 'security risk,' a visionary
Gog and Magog philosopher who wrote about his vision of Israel burning,
and the police used him as the fall guy for the fires."
A certain claim from a different source:
A New York correspondent who I met at my NY lectures twice, and who I
trust, wrote recently that he had met Yigal Amir's mother Geula in New
York. He asked her opinion about my book and she was not delighted
with it, believing that I had hurt her chances to raise money among
the religious Right for her son's defence by implying that he was a
Shabak asset. She was asked why her son doesn't just tell the truth
and she admitted what we knew all along; Amir has been told that if he
so much as whispers anything near the truth, his family will start
dying one by one.
An awful evil is being committed to Israel. The settlers are being
abandoned to their murderers by Ariel Sharon, who lives daily with a
foreign gun at his head. And Israelis, especially the Jewish residents
of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, can't understand the obvious. So they'll
keep dying until barely a sole is left in his home and then they'll
express their indignation by voting for Burg in the next elections.

Arafat in Spain To Brief Government On Cease-Fire
Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat arrived in Spain on Monday
evening to brief Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar on the week-old
Palestinian cease-fire agreement with Israel.
Arafat, who arrived from Amman, Jordan, after a meeting with foreign
ministers and delegates from nine Arab countries, was to meet with Aznar
on Tuesday morning at Moncloa Palace.
Their talks were expected to focus on the situation in the Middle East
following the cease-fire agreement mediated last week by CIA Chief George
Tenet. Under that accord, Palestinian and Israeli leaders committed
themselves to ending violence and resuming security cooperation.
Israel was also required to start redeploying its troops to positions held
before violence broke out September 28 and set a timetable with the
Palestinians for ending closures of the Gaza Strip and West Bank territories.
Spain maintains close relations with the Palestinians, and Arafat meets
periodically with Aznar. Ha'aretz
Iraq 'By-Passing Sanctions'
The Iraqi Government has little difficulty in securing the material it needs to
rebuild weapons sites despite United Nations sanctions, a report says.
The report by the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control says new
sanctions, which are currently under discussion, will only work if weapons
manufacturers in eastern Europe and countries bordering Iraq agree to
enforce them.
Britain and the United States are pushing the new sanctions regime, which
they say would lift the burden from the Iraqi people, and increase the
pressure on the Iraqi Government.
But the Wisconsin Project report suggests all of this work may be in vain, as
the Iraqi Government has developed a highly sophisticated smuggling
network which has made a nonsense of the whole idea of sanctions. BBC
U.S. Tries to Block Sale of 50 N. Korean Missile Engines
The United States is trying to stop Egypt from purchasing 50 missile engines
from North Korea. U.S. government sources said Egypt is negotiating with
Pyongyang for the purchase of 50 No-Dong missile engines. The missile is
said to have a range of between 1,000 and 1,300 kilometers and has already
been purchased by Iran. "We are talking about a very advanced stage of
talks," a government source said.
Egypt has been cooperating with North Korea on missile development for
nearly 20 years. But this is the first time Egypt is believed ready to purchase
such a major component of an intermediate-range missile, Middle East
Newsline reported.
The sources said that earlier this year Egypt obtained a shipment of missile
components from Pyongyang. The shipment was said to have helped
complete a stage of Egypt's missile development. world tribune
U.S. Could Offer Iran Pipeline to Persian Gulf
The United States could approve the laying of an energy pipeline through Iran
to the Persian Gulf as a reward for a moderate policy by the Islamic regime.
This prospect is being raised in a study by a leading Turkish strategist. The
study said Turkey would be a chief beneficiary of an Iranian pipline that runs
from the energy-rich Caspian basin to Turkey and the West.
"Turkish ambitions in this sphere will also hinge on developments in Iran,"
the study by Ziya Onis, a professor at Istanbul's Koc University, said. "The
United States is unwilling to cooperate with the existing regime in Iran. Yet
seeking to encourage or reward political liberalization in Iran, U.S. policy
might accept a pipeline through Iran to the Persian Gulf, which is also
financially more attractive."
In a study by the Middle East Review of International Affairs, Onis said an
Iranian pipeline to the Persian Gulf would be more feasible than the Baku-
Ceyhan pipeline. The Baku pipeline is regarded as too expensive as well as
a security risk because of Kurdish insurgency threats. MENL
Russian Contracts With Libya, Syria Are Stuck
Russian efforts to sell weapons and advanced defense systems to several
Middle East clients are said to have hit a brick wall.
The Russian difficulties come as officials report that Moscow and Israel are
preparing to sign a huge contract for the sale of a joint airborne early-warning
system to India.
Industry sources said pressure from the United States as well as
disagreements over a repayment schedule have blocked deals with such
countries as Libya and Syria. They said part of the problem stems from the
Russian consolidation of its government arms export agencies, which has
led to the flight of many veteran official.
The sources provide the following account of Russia's arms marketing woes.
They said that Russia and Syria are divided over the proposed sale of the
Iskander-E missile. The missile has a range of 280 kilometers and bomblets
that separate from the warhead payload -- making it difficult for missile
defense systems to intercept. Other difficulties, the sources said, involves
Russia's offer to upgrade Soviet-era tanks and aircraft in Syria's arsenal.
Russia is also stuck in efforts to sell advanced systems to Libya. The
sources said this includes an offer to sell the S-300 anti-aircraft system to

Bush to Visit Pope
US President George W. Bush will make another trip to Europe in July and
will include a stop in Rome to meet with Pope John Paul II, according to a
White House statement released on Friday while Bush was visiting Poland.
On that trip, the president will also attend the G-7/8 summit of the world's
seven largest industrial countries plus Russia in Genoa, Italy, July 20-22.
While in Italy, Bush would visit Rome to meet Italian President Carlo Azeglio
Ciampi and new Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, White House spokesman
Ari Fleischer said. Bush would also have an audience with the Pope at the
pontiff's summer residence at Castelgandolfo. He will begin the trip with a
stop in London for discussions with Prime Minister Tony Blair. ewtn
Poison Spiders Invade Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle was on red alert today after a colony of "mystery" spiders
was found living underground. World renowned entomologist Graham Smith
was called in after British Telecom engineers discovered swarms of the giant
venomous creatures on underground cables at Windsor Great Park, metres
from the Queen Mother's weekend residence Royal Lodge.
Mr Smith, a member of the Project-ARK conservation team with a mission to
save endangered species, said the creatures can attack and will not be
repelled by conventional means.
He believes the spiders, which have a leg-span of up to 9cm, may be a new
species that must be preserved. "It's an extremely exciting find because they
are probably a new species or a species that we thought had been extinct in
this country for thousands of years," he said.
"Who knows how long these spiders have been in the royal park because
they live under-ground. There could be literally thousands and thousands of
them. It would be no surprise if they are living underneath Windsor Castle

Boeing Admits New Plane Will Guzzle Fuel
Boeing has agreed that its new high-speed plane would use more fuel than
existing airliners but said there was “plenty of fossil fuel still around”.
The Sonic Cruiser will burn up to 35 per cent more fuel than other planes in
order to accelerate to just below the speed of sound (760mph).
The American aviation company accepted that the extra fuel would increase
carbon emissions but said the environmental price was worth paying to save
time for busy executives. The new delta-wing jet, which Boeing expects will
enter service between 2006 and 2008, is likely to be filled with business
executives prepared to pay a premium to shave an hour off transatlantic
flights and five hours off the London-Sydney journey.
The aviation industry has accepted an estimate by the Intergovernmental
Panel on Climate Change that commercial jets are responsible for 3.5 per
cent of man-made climate change. With air travel likely to double by 2015,
aviation´s contribution to global warming is set to rise significantly. the times

1. TWO TERRORISM VICTIMS BURIED TODAY
The funeral of Doron Zisserman, the second victim of yesterday's murderous
Palestinian terrorism, departed from his hometown of Einav, in western
Shomron,
this afternoon. It was to pass by the Ra'anana home of Public Security
Minister
Uzi Landau on its way to the Segulah Cemetery in Petach Tikvah, but this
plan
was later changed. Zisserman was killed when a terrorist stood outside the
entrance to Einav shooting at Israeli cars; the Arab ran away only after one of
the Israelis began shooting back at him. Doron Zisserman leaves a widow
and
four orphans. Earlier, a resident of Ateret was wounded in the leg in a similar
Palestinian assault.
Arafat's Fatah group, which took credit for both of yesterday's murders,
says that it and other terrorist groups have an agreement with the
Palestinian Authority, according to which shooting at "settlers" is not
included in the ceasefire agreement. Government ministers heard today that
Arafat has apparently given a green light to shooting at Yesha residents.
Similarly, IDF Intelligence Chief Maj.-Gen. Amos Malka told the Knesset
Foreign
Affairs and Defense Committee today that Arafat has no intention of
maintaining
a total cessation of violence. "He was disappointed, however, that his
strategy
has not succeeded in breaking us, and that movements such as the Four
Mothers
[which demanded a withdrawal from Lebanon] did not arise." He also said
that
all of Israel's security branches now agree with IDF Intelligence's
long-standing position that Arafat has full control over the violent Palestinian
elements.
The number of victims in the Dolphinarium suicide slaughter has climbed to
21,
with the death this morning of Evgenia Chaya Dorfman, 15, of Bat Yam. She
was
the only child of her mother, who suffered a heart attack after the massacre
and
was hospitalized. The funeral departed for Jerusalem from the Shevach
School
this afternoon; eight of the victims had studied there. She was buried in
Jerusalem at the request of her mother, who said that her only remaining
relative lives there. One of the 23 wounded who still remain in the hospital is
listed in serious condition. Arutz-7's Russian-language station Sadmoy

has initiated a fundraising campaign for families of the wounded; donations
can

2. HARD TIMES IN CHOMESH
At yesterday's funeral of Danny Yehuda of Chomesh, Rabbi Eliezer
Melamed,
the rabbi of the neighboring community of Brachah, eulogized him:
"When one of us becomes holy, we too, all of his friends living here, also
become holy. This is how we are. We came to fulfill the dream of the
generations and to settle our Holy Land. If we have to live, we will live. and
if we have to die, we will die, and after us, our friends will continue on, to
'capture the mountain...' You wanted to live as a simple man, who loves his
nation and homeland, as a simple man who wants to read the Torah
according to
the ancient, holy, Yemenite tradition, and who wanted to lead his children
along
that path - but in the Heavens it was decided differently for you, that you
would become holy... Maybe for the government you are a simple settler,
but in
truth you are holy..." Education Minister Limor Livnat said, "Danny, stand in
front of the Master of the Universe, and pray for your wife Sigalit, and
children Shalev, Shuval, and Yogev, and your mother, ask for mercy, and ask
also
that we should have the brains, and the strength, and the national fortitude to
win this accursed war." Angry yells were heard from the participants as
Livnat
made this last point.
Ettie Rosenblatt, a long-time resident of Chomesh, told Arutz-7 today that the
army has now agreed to deploy a military jeep for the exclusive service of the
town's residents - including escorting motorists who wish to be escorted
along
the roads. "Chomesh was started almost 21 years ago as a Nachal
outpost," she
recounted. "We have gone through some rough times over the years, and
now have
50 families. Most of them are here for ideological reasons, but there are also
some who, in their great sins [sarcastically], sought quality of life - which we
actually don't have much of of late… For instance, our children can no longer
study in the school in nearby Shaked, because the road has been closed by
the
army, but rather in Alfei Menashe, much further away. This has become a
problem
in itself..."
When asked about those who may be thinking of leaving Chomesh, she
said, "I
cannot and will not judge anyone; I do not have the moral right. In addition,
some people have objective difficulties, such as unemployment caused by the
situation. I know, from the stories my parents always told, that there are
always some who are stronger and some who are weaker; that's the way it
is. I
will try to convince them, but nothing more... [As for myself], I can just
quote my husband: We're not leaving; we will be buried here. I grew up
before
1967 on what was then a border town, in circumstances similar to these. I
believe in the importance of living here. I think it's time for the citizens of
Israel to listen more closely to Arafat and his cronies, who say that Yesha is
just the beginning. They work with the salami method, slice by slice - they
will next plan to demand the right of return [for the refugees of 1948], and
from there they will want Tel Aviv, Netanya, and wherever else..."
3. MOVING TO YESHA
Arutz-7's Ariel Kahane carried out some meticulous research today, and
found that despite the dangers and difficulties currently faced by
residents of Yesha, Israelis continue to want to come. He prepared the
following random list of several Yesha communities and their forecasted
population "transfers" for this coming year:
Kokhav Yaakov (north of Jerusalem) - 50 families will come, some will
apparently leave.
Tel Tzion, adjacent to Kokhav Yaakov - 84 new families arriving.
Avnei Heifetz (western Shomron) - 4-5 will come, no information on
departures.
Adurah (west of Hevron) - one family coming, some will likely leave. Beit El -
35 will come, a handful will leave. Adam is expecting 100 new families. Elon
Moreh - 8 will come, 5 will leave. Beit Haggai (south of Hevron) - 3 to come,
none expected to leave. Ofrah - 5 new families, 2 couples may leave. N'vei
Tzuf
- none coming, 5 leaving. Brachah - positive balance, did not want to release
figures. Shavei Shomron - 2 new families came, 2 will probably soon come,
no one
leaving. Chinanit (south of Um el Fahm) - completing a new absorption center
that will take in 27 families. Gadid (Gush Katif) - 3 families coming, none
leaving. Kfar Darom (Gush Katif) - 6 new families to come, none leaving.
Neriah
(western Binyamin) - 3 will come, 4 will leave. Kfar Adumim (south of Jericho)
-
3 to come, none will leave. Karmei Tzur (south of Gush Etzion) 6 coming,
none
leaving. Migdalim (just west of the Jordan Valley) - none coming, 2 leaving.
Rimonim (between Jericho and Ofrah) - none coming, 3-4 leaving.
Some communities told Kahane that they simply have a technical problem of
no apartments or caravans to absorb new families.
4. AMIDST SHELLS AND BULLETS, SECURITY CABINETS BEGIN RE-
EVALUATION
Four Arab mortar shells were fired at Katif this afternoon, and five shells at
N'vei Dekalim - both in Gush Katif, Gaza - last night; no one was hurt.
Palestinian terrorists also fired last night at Ganim (northern Shomron), an
army post near Ganei Tal (Gush Katif), and an army force on the southern
Shechem
bypass road. The soldiers returned fire in the latter two cases. Border Guard
policemen arrested an eastern Jerusalem Arab today while performing a
routine
check, and found him in possession of a large knife; he admitted that he had
planned to stabl soldiers and policemen.
Prime Minister Sharon is scheduled to meet with U.S. President George
Bush in
Washington next week, and hopes to do so while still conducting a policy of
restraint. His meeting this morning with Foreign Minister Shimon Peres,
Labor
Minister Eli Yeshai, and Finance Minister Silvan Shalom (Defense Minister
Ben-Eliezer is still abroad] did therefore not lead to any dramatic military
decisions - although the mini-cabinet did begin a "re-assessment of the
ceasefire." This, in light of what is called the ceasefire's "unilateral
nature, given the continued terrorism and incitement and lack of arrest of
terrorists by the PA."
The re-evaluation will continue tomorrow in what could be a fateful meeting of
the larger security cabinet. Some of its members have already come out in
favor
of resorting once again to the policy of "selected liquidations" of terrorist
leaders. Minister Eli Yeshai, who visited Hevron today, said there that there
is a limit to what Israel can take, and that the time had arrived for a
"re-evaluation of Israel's ceasefire policy." Minister Shalom is also
apparently in favor of announcing an end to the ceasefire.
A report submitted to the government indicates that U.S. officials are not
optimistic that the ceasefire will be effective enough to permit the resumption
of diplomatic negotiations.
5. FIGHTING BACK, RAISING MORALE
Residents of N'vei Tzuf and Ateret, north of Ramallah, will begin a sit-in
strike outside the Prime Minister's Office tomorrow, to protest what they call
the intolerable security situation. Possibly even more significantly, some of
them destroyed a new Arab-paved road connecting the Ateret area with the
Arabs'
Bir Zeit University. They said that the road had been used as an escape route
for terrorists, and that the army, despite many requests to do so, had not
blocked the road. In addition, several Ateret residents entered the nearby
Arab
village of Um Tsafa and caused some damage.
Eyal Cohen, General Secretary of Ateret, explained to Arutz-7's
Yosef Zalmanson today that the latter action was basically a camouflage
for the road-destroying mission: "All the soldiers were busy in Um Tsafa,
while
our guys were able to work on the road undisturbed. They dug ditches in the
road in more than one place, making the road impassable. All in all, this
helped raise the morale of the residents greatly, after these nine months of
suffering…"
Dozens of Jews from Kiryat Arba and neighboring Har Hevron communities
blocked roads in their vicinity to Arab traffic this morning. This action was
taken in response to yesterday's opening of many roads that had long been
closed, for security reasons, to Arab drivers. Some 30 residents of Tapuach
(central Shomron, east of Ariel) burst into the Ariel police station last night
to free their friends who had been arrested earlier on suspicion of planning
violence against nearby Arabs. They uprooted the station gate and scuffled
with
policemen; three of the latter were hurt, and four Tapuach residents were
arrested.
6. GIDEON EZRA, RABBIS, CALL FOR CIVIL RESTRAINT
Deputy Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra (Likud) said today that lessons
should be learned from the ongoing terrorist shooting attacks: "After all,
Danny Yehuda, who was buried yesterday, escaped unharmed from a similar
shooting
just last week… My conclusion is that in the relevant communities, such as
Chomesh, N'vei Tzuf, Ateret, people must not be allowed to travel unless in
bulletproof vehicles. They must be given all the provisions so that their
quality of life will not suffer, such as very frequent buses, a good place to
wait, etc." Ezra, a former Deputy Chief of Israel's General Security Service
related to the government's intentions regarding the ceasefire: "Look, we
don't
have to announce over the radio when we will start fighting. In my opinion, the
clash is inevitable. But the people who are calling for war right now don't
have all the information. I only fear one thing, namely, that the Jewish
population in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza - which we all admire and which has
shown
extreme strength and restraint until now - I fear that someone will lose
patience and take action, thus rendering totally worthless this whole period of
restraint..." Many Yesha rabbis and leaders have similarly called for restraint
among the Yesha population.
7. BISHARA DOESN'T SHOW UP; POLICE PREVENT PROTEST
Arab MK Azmi Bishara did not respond to a police summons for questioning
today regarding his speech in Syria last week in which he called on Arab
nations to unite against Israel. He said last night that all he did was to
"give a political speech, which is my job as Knesset Member." Bishara also
said
that he is not an Israeli patriot, but a Palestinian patriot: "Syria is
considered an enemy of Israel. But even if you crucify me, I just cannot see
Syria as my enemy."
The Jerusalem police have formally refused to issue a permit for a mass
demonstration scheduled to have been held this evening outside Bishara's
home in eastern Jerusalem's Biet Chanina. A group of Israelis filed for
permission last week to rally outside his home and call upon the government
to
revoke Bishara's citizenship. However, the police informed the group's
representative, Atty. Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, that allowing thousands of
Jews
to enter the Arab village could touch off a new round of Arab rioting in the
city. Darshan-Leitner threatens to take the case to the Supreme Court,
challenging the right of the police to refuse citizens their democratic right to
demonstrate merely because of a "fear of violence."
Coalition head MK Ze'ev Boim (Likud) has asked Attorney-General Elyakim
Rubenstein to begin the procedure of removing Bishara's parliamentary
immunity. "He harmed the State of Israel by his mere presence in an enemy
state, and now he is attempting to strike a blow at the State's laws by not
responding to the police summons."
8. P.A. DISRUPTING AIRPORT SIGNALS
The Palestinian media are causing yet another headache to Israel. Their
signals have been seriously disrupting the transmissions to and from the
control tower at Ben-Gurion International Airport over the past several
days. Officials say that the phenomenon can endanger the flights.
9. NUYB: OPPOSITION FROM WITHIN
The National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu Knesset faction decided last night,
again, not to quit the coalition, but rather to act as an opposition
faction within the government. This means that the seven MKs - four of
Yisrael Beiteinu, two of Moledet, and one of Tekumah - will not vote
automatically for government bills but will rather judge each one on its
own merits. MK Tzvi Hendel, for instance, will introduce a bill next week that
would declare the PLO an illegal terrorist organization, against the
government's stated position. The party is thus protesting the government's
continued restraint in the face of Palestinian Authority terrorism. The
National Religious Party, which was criticized when it refused to quit the
Barak
and Netanyahu governments under similar circumstances, had strong words
against
what the "hypocrisy" of National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu in refusing to leave
the
government now.
10. HAR-SHEFI PAROLE TO BE CONSIDERED
The Prison Service Parole Board will convene tomorrow to consider granting
parole to Margalit Har-Shefi. She was sentenced to nine months in prison for
not preventing the assassination of Yitzchak Rabin; she has served almost
four
months thus far. If parole is granted, the young law student is likely to be
released this coming Sunday.
11. WHO ELSE IS COMING TO ISRAEL?
400 young Jewish Canadians completed this week what they called a highly
successful ten-day Birthright journey to Israel, sponsored in part by
UJA-Federation of Greater Toronto. Whatever safety-issue reservations
some of
them may have had were quickly dissipated, they recounted.
Over 40 out of almost 60 seniors from Yeshiva University's Samuel H. Wang
High
School for Girls plan to attend schools in Israel this coming year.
Over 200 Bnei Akiva teenagers will be arriving in July for the Mach-Hach
(Preparatory Camp) Israel summer program. The six-week program includes
Torah study, touring, camping, and volunteering.

DOCTOR PLANS EUTHANASIA BOAT IN BRITISH WATERS
Australian Inspired by Abortion Ship off Ireland
LONDON, JUNE 19, 2001 (Zenit.org).- An Australian doctor plans to moor a
floating euthanasia clinic off the United Kingdom administering lethal
injections and drug dosages in an attempt to raise the political profile of the
issue, the Guardian newspaper reported.
Darwin-based Philip Nitschke may travel to the Netherlands this summer to
buy a Dutch-registered ship so he can legally help kill terminally ill patients
around the world. To help set up the project, he will meet with the activists
who took an "abortion ship" to Ireland last week.
"I´ve been very impressed by their impact," Nitschke said. "I expect we could
use a similar set up for a euthanasia clinic." Rebecca Gomberts, the senior
doctor behind the Women on Waves abortion vessel, Aurora, has backed
Nitschke´s plans.
Nitschke is investigating whether the Dutch Parliament´s recent decision to
legalize euthanasia would enable him to circumvent the law in Australia,
Britain and other countries where the practice is illegal.
He rose to prominence when he helped four terminally ill patients to die after
Australia´s Northern Territory briefly legalized euthanasia in 1996.
A spokesman for the Dutch health ministry said the project would be
impossible under their legislation, as the patients must have a long-standing
relationship with the doctor and get a second opinion from another physician.

family of Noah, following the Great Flood? Although those on the ark were
descendents of Eve, how many were there? Everyone else was gone besides those
on the ark.

HAY-ON-WYE, Wales - We are all descended from the 33 daughters of Eve. Just
take a swab from your cheek and you can find which one is your original
ancestor.
That is the view of Professor Bryan Sykes, one of the world's top geneticists
who has spent the last decade mapping out where we come from.
''Your genes have been through a fantastic journey,'' he told Britain's
leading literary festival on Tuesday in the Welsh border town of Hay-on-Wye
where he laid out a fascinating DNA pathway to the past.
Now, after opening such a fascinating Pandora's Box, he has found that
thousands of people around the world, from the United States to South Africa,
are consumed with curiosity and want to find out who their original ''clan
mother'' is.
''This shows how closely connected we all are,'' he said
The Oxford University professor first started taking DNA from archaelogical
bones and then in 1994 was called in to examine the frozen remains of a
5,000-year-old man trapped in glacial ice in Northern Italy.
This led him to research how a gene passed undiluted from generation to
generation through the maternal line and helped him to track down our own
genetic ancestors.
''If you look at the mitochondrial gene, it is DNA which is just inherited
from your mother. It is found in eggs not sperm,'' he explained in an
interview with Reuters.
After taking several thousand DNA samples, the clan mothers in Europe were
narrowed down to ''The Seven Daughters of Eve,'' the title of his new book
chronicling his DNA detective work.
''To bring these women alive I gave them names and worked out where they
lived and when. They range from Ursula in Greece 45,000 years ago to Jasmine
10,000 years ago in Syria -- she came from the Middle East along with the
farmers,'' he said.
''There are roughly 33 equivalent clusters if you take the whole world.
Eventually it all comes down to Mitochondrial Eve in Africa 200,000 years
ago,'' he added.
Sykes said ''Thousand of people have asked to have a DNA test to find out who
they are descended from.''
So oxfordancestors.com was set up on the Internet.
You send off 150 pounds, receive a swab kit and then send it back for
analysis that will reveal your origins.
''The majority came from the United States. I think the reason for the
interest is rediscovering the fact we have a history and the genes are not
just something you are given like a National Insurance Number,'' Sykes said.
''Your genes are a very, very precious gift and you should be proud of
them,'' he concluded.
