Hello. There is much truth in what you say and hidden away in what you say is an answer to your 'mind-boggling'. The body of Christ IS the Temple of God. It is the body of Christ, the Temple of God, that will suffer the abomination of desolation, the apostasy, the hatred of Satan.
The non-Christian Israeli attempts to build a third temple in order to bring the Messiah are fruitless Jewish Dreams and may not ever occur and if they do occur, who will they worship? A deutero God? Two-thirds of God? Is God going to give them another opportunity besides the one that the world has before it now. The curtain in front of the Holy of Holies was torn when Jesus died for us. That was the end of their temple, and it is dubious that it could be referred to as Holy at the time Jesus lived on earth. The temple's destruction in 70AD was a physical demonstration of this.
All that an Israeli need do is stop DIS-believing in the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Then Jesus will speak to them in their hearts. Then the OT and the NT will make sense to them. Then they will be a part of the Body of Christ. They have snubbed God and continue to do so. They don't believe Him. They don't read Isaiah 53 because it speaks the truth and they don't want the truth.
Yes Jesus was the ULTIMATE sacrifice. The FINAL sacrifice. He was not the penultimate sacrifice. He ended the need to sacrifice. It was Jesus who stopped the need to sacrifice. Jewish sacrifices in the future, should they ever occur again (and maybe Satan will see that it happens by the use of the numerous false prophets (Hinn, Copeland, Joyner, Wagner, Jones &c.), will be meaningless to God. Of no value.
The interpretation that leads to your mind being boggled is based on a popular and I think erroneous interpretation of Daniel's seven weeks.
Jesus was the person who ceased the need to sacrifice (as you say, he was the ULTIMATE sacrifice, the final one) and his people, future Christians, destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple for their abominations (sins).
Jesus is the prince who is to come (Dan 9:25) (compare scripture with scripture). Jesus made Jerusalem desolate. Jesus destroyed the temple by means of the Romans. Jesus made a covenant with many, both before and after His death, through the apostles, with Peter taking it to the gentiles.
Now to stand back and await the wrath :)

(BNI-FEB.20) A major storm warning has been issued on Tuesday for all
areas of the country from Mount Hermon in the north to the southern
Negev in the south.
Weather reports predict colder than seasonable temperatures, heavy
rains accompanied by strong winds, and snow in northern areas and high
regions in the center. As of Tuesday morning, there are predictions of
a light dusting of snow in the capital but this may change as the
storm comes closer. Meteorologists are monitoring the storm as it
approaches, warning that the current predictions may change later in
the day. Heavier snow accumulations have not been ruled out for
Jerusalem.
The storm is expected to begin about midday and its expected to
intensify towards evening and nighttime. Rains are expected to

African citizen involved in a tourist project were injured by IDF

7. No injuries in shooting attack against passenger bus
(BNI-FEB.20) There were no injuries in a shooting attack Monday night
against a Shomron Development Company bus traveling in northern
Samaria. Bullets did hit the bulletproof vehicle.

8. Attacks on Gilo continued on Monday night
(BNI-FEB.20) Following the cessation of gunfire and reopening of the
Minharot road, PA gunfire against the southern Jerusalem neighborhood
of Gilo resumed later in the night. In all shooting attacks, there
were no casualties to IDF forces or Gilo residents.
One bullet fired from Beit Jala did strike a porch of a home on
Barakat Street causing a blaze that resulted in damages but no
injuries.
In a related matter, government officials report that a contractor has
been hired and the installation of bulletproof windows for Gilo
residents would be accomplished in the near future.

(CNN) -- The poles of the sun's powerful magnetic field have reversed,
signaling a time of peak solar activity that could spell trouble for
planet Earth, astronomers said this week.
The sun's magnetic north and south poles were in their respective
northern and southern hemisphere several months ago. Yet since then
they have migrated to the opposite sides of the star.
The bipolar flip did not take astronomers by surprise. It takes place
like clockwork on the sun, once about every 11 years.
"This always happens around the time of solar maximum," NASA physicist
David Hathaway said in a statement. "The magnetic poles exchange takes
place at the peak of the sunspot cycle. In fact, it's a good
indication that Solar Max is really here."
During Solar Max or solar maximum, the sun tends to exhibit more
sunspots and eruptions, and jettison more solar flares, which send
powerful streams of charged particles into the solar system.
Solar blasts heading toward Earth can stoke up beautiful auroras in
the nighttime sky, and wreak havoc on communications satellites and
electrical power grids.
Astronomers consider the current solar maximum more powerful than
average, but less intense than the last two in 1989 and 1979.
Earth's magnetic fields also change places but with much less
predictability and frequency. The reversals take place between
intervals lasting from 5,000 to 5 million years. The last one happened
740,000 years ago, scientists estimate. Some suggest the planet is
overdue for another one.

Los Angeles -- Archaeologists have found three unlooted tombs in a
1,500-year-old Moche pyramid in Peru, a finding that has left them
scratching their heads over the burial chambers' unusual contents.
Each of the three treasure-filled tombs was accompanied by a miniature
tomb containing a copper figurine of the deceased and miniature
versions of the tomb's artifacts -- something never seen in any
culture before, even in the most elaborate Egyptian chambers.
Perhaps even more puzzling, all three of the deceased, and a young
female apparently included as a sacrifice, were giants among the
short-statured Moche people, whose empire flourished in the desert
plain between the Andes and the Pacific from about A.D. 100 to 800.
"More than 350 Moche burials have been excavated (by archaeologists),"
said Christopher Donnan, lead archaeologist from the University of
California, Los Angeles, "but neither I nor my colleagues have seen
anything elsewhere remotely like the ones at this site."
Fewer than 15 of those previously discovered tombs contained silver
and gold, but all three of the new ones do, and one contains unusual
amounts, suggesting that its occupant was very powerful. The tombs and
artifacts are expected to give archaeologists new insights into the
religious beliefs of the Moche, said archaeologist Steve Bourget of
the University of Texas at Austin.
The discovery, announced yesterday by the National Geographic Society,
which sponsored the excavation, is also important because the tombs
are from the early stages of the Moche empire. Most previous
discoveries have dated from the end of the Moche empire.
A sophisticated culture, the Moche raised huge pyramids of sun-dried
mud bricks, laying their noblest dead inside. They also created
splendid objects of gold, silver and copper.
The new tombs were discovered at Dos Cabezas, the first big settlement
identified from the early Moche culture. Dos Cabezas is at the mouth
of the Jaquetepequa River, about 40 miles south of Sipan, where even
more elaborate tombs were found in the 1980s.
Donnan found the first tomb in the summer of 1997. It contained an
adult male with a 15-year-old female lying crosswise at his feet --
most likely a sacrifice. The man had been buried wearing a cylindrical
metal headdress and a gold nose ornament.
Four "absolutely awesome" ceramics were arrayed in the corners of the
tomb, Bourget said.
At one end of the tomb, Donnan said, was a little compartment
containing a copper figurine wrapped in textiles and accompanied by
miniature artifacts.
The following summer, the team opened a second tomb that contained 10
to 15 times as many riches as the first, Donnan said.
The individual was buried in multiple layers of textiles, with 14
headdresses, clubs, spears, spear throwers, three gold-plated shields,
a burial mask and five gold objects in his mouth. "Around the corners
were the most spectacular set of ceramic vessels ever found in a Moche
tomb, even better than those at Sipan," he said.
And at the end of the tomb was a small compartment, about 14 inches
square, containing another copper figurine wrapped in textiles. With
it were a miniature burial mask, a miniature circular shield, two war
clubs, spears and other small artifacts.
"It was now clear that the figurine was meant to be a miniaturization
of the figure in the tomb," Donnan said. A third tomb, opened in the
summer of 1999, was very similar to the first.
The final surprise was the size of the deceased. Moche ranged in
height from 4-foot-10 to 5-foot-6. All the deceased were between
5-foot-9 and 6 feet -- the equivalent of 7-footers in today's society.

Children at a primary school in the Highlands will have a second day
off school on Monday while tests are carried out on a white powder
which they claim fell on their playground from a low-flying aircraft.
Samples of the crystalline material were taken from the children's
shoes and clothing to be tested in police laboratories, but it has not
yet been identified.
The pupils at Lairg primary school, Sutherland, told their teachers
that the material dropped in a bag during their lunch break on
Thursday. They later complained of itching, but have been checked by
doctors who found nothing wrong with them.
The school was closed yesterday while investigations were made, and
will remain closed on Monday. Police cordoned off the playground and
the immediate area surrounding it, but have been unable to find the
bag which the children reported. The pupils were unable to say whether
the material was dropped by helicopter, or a military or civilian
plane.
Chemical spraying by a light aircraft is thought to be the most likely
explanation, although a police spokesman in Inverness said they had
not ruled out the possibility that the children were the victims of a
hoax. The area is regularly used by the RAF for low-flying exercises,
but there were no military aircraft in the vicinity at the time.

Various media outlets tried to downplay Palestinian responsibility for
the heinous bus attack on February 14 which killed eight Israelis.
(a) L.A. TIMES -- The front page of the Los Angeles Times carried an
Associated Press photo which shows the damaged bus, and the
Palestinian driver still behind the wheel, laid back with a sad face.
The caption is as follows:
"Palestinian bus driver Khalil abu Olbeh, 35, sits wounded after
leading police on a 19-mile chase. Family members said that he was
distraught over financial problem and upset by current unrest."
Why the sympathetic treatment of this mass murderer? The caption and
photo almost suggest that this poor distraught fellow is a victim of
"Israeli aggression."

The Guardian defended the bus driver as "a sort of Palestinian
everyman who finally snapped because of the combined pressure of the

having admitted to carefully planning the attack, the Guardian said

terrorist," and claimed that the killer was merely drowsy from
medication.

(c) ABC NEWS - The worst violator of media objectivity, however, was
ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings -- which completely omitted
coverage of the bus attack. Though the attack was the single most

network covered it in their evening news programs, ABC was
inexplicably silent.

I am baffled at this omission. The tragic story was clearly
newsworthy, and did not have reflected very well on the Palestinians.

"Pictures of the Year 2000." Whichever picture wins will likely be
repeated on television as being the most significant picture of the
year.
A pro-Palestinian group (solidarity_palestine@egroups.com) has sent
out a "Palestinian Action Alert" calling for people to vote for the
photo entitled "A Death in Gaza," which depicts 12-year-old Mohammed
Aldura huddled behind his father.
The Gaza photo is currently toward the top of the list, trailing a
photo called "Hunting Down the Shooter." If you would like to help
prevent the Gaza photo from winning, please vote!
The mere inclusion of this photo betrays a distinct anti-Israel bias
on MSNBC. Of the 49 photos up for consideration, most are of nature
scenes, and only two photos relate to political content. Both of them
carry an anti-Israel message: the Gaza photo, and a photo of a young
(presumably Arab) boy in a damaged West Bank home.
It is also worth noting that the facts surrounding the Gaza photo are
in serious dispute. It may have been Israeli crossfire which caused
the boy's accidental death, or there is substantial evidence that the
boy was killed by a Palestinian gunman standing near the Palestinian
cameraman -- all staged by Palestinians at the beginning of the
intifada to garner world sympathy (which it did).

3) BLOODY CARTOONS
The day after winning the election, Ariel Sharon visited the Western
Wall and reverently touched the ancient stones. The British Guardian
then ran a cartoon by Steve Bell that obscenely depicted Sharon's
bloody handprints on the Western Wall. The cartoon desecrates the
holiest Jewish site and encroaches on brash anti-Semitism.

I knew that Bush Sr. was into the Skull and Bones..... secret society and also a part of the NWO peoples.... I guess why would it be any different for his son?? I have been a Southern Baptist Pastor for twenty two years and I
have known George W. for over twenty years. He is a Christian and is not an
occultists. You can take any citizen of the U.S. and build a twisted case
as I have seen on this subject. It amazes me why someone of the inegrity of
George W. Bush would subject himself and his family to such rediculous
statements as have been listed. The bottom line is we have the
constitutional right to say just about anything we want even if it is
clearly false with reprocution, but I believe Christians should be more
responsible.

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
I think that we have forgotten a basic truth. We all have pasts. I know that I do. I know that my whole past has been washed in the blood of Christ. My sins were all on the same level. Some were really bad and the rest were just really bad.
We know that W came to the Lord later in years. Therefore, he has a past. We have public knowledge of what some of it was. But, his sins were washed in the blood of Christ when he turned his life to the Lord. I do not take this simply. I know that demonic activity comes in any open door, but look at the life being lived out before you. He has changed in many ways. Isn't that what the Bible says about one of Christ's own......That we will know them by their fruits?
It is also very important to note. Many people received words from the Lord about W being "placed" in the Office of the President, some two years ago, some weeks before the election was called. The words came from the Father as He said he was placing W in the office. The Father gave scriptures to comfirm this. I believe in the Almighty, the Father in heaven, Yahweh! I believe that He has His hand of protection on President Bush. I, myself, heard the Spirit say over two years ago that W would be elected but wouldn't make it to see inauguration. (Who would want to kill him?) Many people all over the country received the same word/warning. Many people heeded the word from the Lord and prayed, interceeding for this man, his life and his family. Many continue to hear words of reminder to pray for this man. He is now in office, but our job to pray for him and his protection is far from over. Praise Yahweh!
An interesting note to all of this. I do listen to my children. They do speak with wisdom and discernment. They are being raised in the love and admonition of the Lord. They are being taught a Christian view of the world. One of my children had acted out the intrusion of an armed man on that Wed. morning two weeks ago. (when the gunman was captured at the White House). My child said that the gunman had been shot in the leg by one of my other children. This whole thing was acted out 3 hours before it was aired on TV. All of this while we had some friends from out of state visiting. What a witness to them. We should listen to our children because the Father will speak to them and through them, the Bible says so. We must also take everything they say to the Father for confirmation and to the Word for testing. I Do Not recommend receiving ungodly, or disrespectful words from our children, but listen to what the Father may be saying through them.

I received the following from a friend and thought there might be some on
this list who would be interested.

Hi. My name is Bob Sjogren and Id like to encourage you to fast for
holiness in the life of George W. Bush while in the Whitehouse.
Let me give you some background
I am your basic conservative Presbyterian. I came to know the Lord
through Campus Crusade and have been in full time Christian work ever
since, serving with Frontiers for 18 years and now on loan to ACMC
(Advancing Churches In Missions Commitment).
Last year, my wife and I (along with our four kids) went to West Africa
to encourage missionaries. The trip took six weeks. Knowing we needed
prayer coverage, we ended up getting at least one person to fast for
every day we were over there.
While there, we hit what many would call some pretty scary times for our
physical safety. Yet through it all, we had perfect peace. Why?
Because we knew someone at that very moment was fasting.
Recently, our family watched as our nation chose a president. Now that
George W. Bush is in, I can only hope and pray that the scandals that
happened to President Clinton will not happen to him. George W. Bush is
a believer and carries our Fathers reputation in the actions he takes.
(I can only wish we had been doing this for President Clinton.)
It is because our heavenly Father is jealous for his glory (Exodus 20:5)
that I write to you.
Recently I have felt the Lord speak to me (remember, I'm a conservative
Presbyterian, I rarely use those words) that our President needs someone
fasting for him every day in the office for his holiness. This will not
only cover him through our prayers and fasting, but also give him
encouragement (and accountability) knowing that there is someone (and
hopefully multitudes) fasting for him each day.
Being swamped with my own work, I thought, Great idea, who can handle
this? I called a friend who put me in touch with the National Day of
Prayer. They basically said, "Great idea", but were swamped. I then
went to Crusade. Same response. I then went to the National Prayer
Committee.
In the process I felt the Lord say, Bob, I asked you to handle this.
Since I feel totally swamped and since it is no where in my calling, I
felt God saying thats what makes you perfectly qualified (figure that
one out!)
So this is not being sponsored by anyone. It will be a grass roots
movement of believers who are passionate for God.
So, since I walk by faith and feel the Lords calling me to this, here's
my best guess at how to manage it.
If you are willing to fast one day a month primarily for George W.
Bush's holiness (and other areas, such as bipartisan work among the
Democrats and Republicans, Wisdom in his work, wisdom for his cabinet,
healing for our nation, etc. but primarily holiness) then e-mail me at
fast4GeorgeW@juno.com
Tell me which day you want to fast on such as the 1st, the 14th, you get
the
idea. (I thought about fasting one day a year, but then it is so easy
to forget, so were going with monthly fasting.)
Your name will be put on a list for that day. Then a few days before
that date comes up, you will be sent a reminder via e-mail to fast on
that day. If for whatever reason you cannot make it, e-mail me and let
me know. I will make sure someone is fasting for that day.
Please excuse Christmas and Easter as days to fast on and don't choose
your birth date!
If the President's office puts out prayer requests, we will forward
those on to you.
Please take this seriously. This is a four-year commitment (and
hopefully, an 8-year commitment). If you need or want to be permanently
excused, simply e-mail me and let me know that as well.
I hope that President Bush will be able to hear, "There is one person
fasting for you each day", then hear, "There are ten people fasting for
you each day" then hear "There are 100 people fasting for you each day"
then hear "There are 1,000 people fasting for you each day"... You get
the idea. That will greatly encourage him and keep him accountable when
the Evil One seeks to sidetrack him from his commitment to the Lord.
I personally will be fasting the 20th of each month, starting on his
Inauguration Day.

Truth is truth, and facts are facts. For too long the church has been asleep
and Ole Luci has been rocking the cradle. Thanks for your input and the
research of others that have shed the light of truth on the darkness of this
illumined one. There are many today who call themselves father, Rev, etc.
who are blind leaders of the blind, but praise the Lord Jesus Christ for
those who are of more noble character (as the Bereans) who chose to expose
the darkness that is masquerading as light. Not all who say "Lord, Lord
shall enter in" and not all that "preach and teach in his name shall enter"
for there shall be a seperation of the "vile from the precious" and a
"seperation of the goats from the sheep". Woe unto those leaders who call
darkness light. Those who call themselves leaders, Rev's, fathers, pastors
etc. will give an account for their error. It is better that a millstone be
hung about the head of such a one, than to cause even the least of the sheep
to faulter because of calling darkness "light". A highway of Holiness will be

Wellington - A royal commission investigating genetic modification
was in uproar on Monday after a scientist claimed the United States
had engineered a bacterium with the potential to kill all plant life
on the planet.
But a group representing pro-genetic science groups has responded by
claiming that American biologist Elaine Ingham had misrepresented her
research.
The Royal Commission on Genetic Modification has been hearing
evidence in Wellington for nearly two months.
Earlier the Green Party called the Oregon State University soil
biologist who told the commission that the engineered bacterium
Klebsiella planticola had potential to kill all life if released into
the environment.
Ingham said the bacterium had gained American regulatory approval,
then killed all the wheat plants it was added to - contributing to a
conclusion that changing the beneficial life in soil put the
continued survival of humans at risk by affecting vital nutrients,
water quality and the ability to suppress disease.
But the Life Sciences Network, applying to rebut the evidence,
asserted Inghams findings were without scientific foundation.
It also asserted that, in one respect, she had misrepresented
official support for her field research.
"Dr Ingham made outrageous and scientifically unsupported assertions
about ecological devastation for all terrestrial plant life arising
from modification of a single soil bacterium," network chairperson
William Rolleston said.
The application says: "Her evidence, while not given on oath, was
nevertheless bound by normal standards of ethical behaviour expected
of scientists ... Dr Ingham also told the commission the United
States authorities had approved field tests of the bacterium. No such
approval was given."
The network further asserted that research she cited in support of
her findings did not justify her conclusions.
Ingham is currently in Australia but Green Party leader Jeanette
Fitzsimons said Ingham was a "very well-respected researcher".
"Her work is very credible. If she's made some minor glitch, that
will come out in the wash."
The commission is expected to make a decision next month on whether a

ISRAELIS flocked to have their gas masks serviced yesterday after
Iraq threatened to retaliate for Friday's airstrikes.Depots reported
a 100 per cent increase in the numbers wanting their equipment
refurbished and new filters fitted.
Although Ehud Barak, the Prime Minister, and his generals said that
they did not believe Iraq posed any immediate threat to Israel,
Israeli citizens were not taking any chances. Nor were they putting
much faith in the abilities of American-built Patriot "anti-missile
missiles" to protect them. Israeli and American servicemen yesterday
began a five-day exercise to test the missiles, which were designed
to shoot down Iraqi Scud rockets.
"I'm sure that Saddam has got something horrible in his factories and
it will only take one Scud to kill huge numbers of us with a
biological weapon," Ronit Millstein, a 23-year-old shop assistant,
said. "I'm getting my gas mask organised whatever, Patriots or no
Patriots."
In Gaza yesterday, Palestinians continued their demonstrations in
support of President Saddam Hussein, chanting "Saddam, we wait for
your rockets to hit Tel Aviv" and burning Israeli flags.

I can assure you =ECm not into arguing, but when the scripture
say something, I want to stick to that no matter what.
"Gods Word Says"- that should settle it all!
However I have learned there are soo many people digging
for hidden secrets in Gods Word that they make a hen out of a feather.
Gods Word is like God himself, all practical, and it=B4s that way I want to
study his
word. I want to know Him and His power and love, not so much
"head-knowledge" but "scriptural-based-holy-spirit-heart-experience".
But I am also qurious about those 1290 days.

I find it interesting that the mosque in Jerusalem is 1,290 years old but do
not think the 1,290 years relates to the 1,290 days of Daniel 12:11. I think
it is coincidental. Praise the Lord!
The 1,290 days, I think, are literal days and that God is telling us there
will be 1,290 days from the day the daily sacrifice is taken away until the
abomination is set up.(Dan. 12:11) We do not know exactly what the
abomination will be but I think it will be something that is set up in the
Holy of Holies of the Jewish Temple which will be located in Jerusalem at
that time. The Bible predicted, Daniel 8:1-14, and history confirms that
Jerusalem was invaded and the temple defiled in the days of Antiochus
Epiphany. The 2,300 days are thought to have fallen between 171 BC, when the
High Priest was murdered, and 164 BC, when Antiochus Epiphany died and
tradition has it that the abomination was the offering of a pig on the
altar. Whatever are the facts, regarding the time span and the details of
the abomination, the acts of Antiochus Epiphany, I think, are an indication
of what will happen in the end times.
The 1,290 days, I think, are a part of the ‘end times´, starting at the
mid-point of seven years, the last week of Daniel´s 70 weeks of years. I
think the last week of Daniel´s 70 weeks of years, a period of 7 years, will
start after the rapture of the church. Whether they will start on the day of
the departure of the Church or shortly after is not clear but I do not think
we need to know in order to understand what will happen. The first 1,260
days will end with the blowing of the 7th trumpet and, during the next 30
days, I think the three angels, of Rev. 14:6-12, will do their thing. At
the end of the 1,290 days the abomination will be set up, at which time those
who believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and have refused to take the mark
of the beast are told to flee into the mountains. (Matthew 24:16) That, I
think, will be followed by the final 45 days, during which the vials are
poured out and I think these are the days that will be shortened otherwise no
flesh will be saved. Praise the Lord!
That, my friend, is a synopsis. May I suggest that you consider the above
then pose questions that I will attempt to answer and we can, then, take it
from there.

A T H E N S, Greece, Feb. 13 - Slowly but surely, 300 million
Europeans and their trading partners and visitors from the United
States and elsewhere are realizing what it will mean when
Europeans "lose" their national cash and adopt the euro, the new
common currency of 12 countries.
The move has been described by some bankers as the greatest currency
changeover the world has ever seen.
The European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, Germany has launched a
massive advertising and media campaign to acquaint Eurozone members
with the euro.
It is also using its own new Web site, www.euro.ecb.int, explain to
Europeans the coming of the 14.5 billion euro banknotes and 50
billion euro coins being printed and minted at heavily-guarded sites
around Europe.
Spain, Belgium, Germany, Greece, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,
the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland are Eurozone members
making the monetary switch which officially comes into play in March
next year.
Most Eurozone members will sell small "get acquainted" packs of euro
coins on either Dec. 15 or 17. The Netherlands will offer some coins
free of charge to anyone over six years of age.
The idea is to familiarize people, including businesses, tourists and
travelers, with the new coins before being able to use them. In a bid
to prevent counterfeiting, notes will not be distributed to
individuals ahead of the launch date.
There will be seven different bank notes and eight different coins.
The new coins - 50 billion of them - will have one side common to all
12 countries and a reverse side specific to each country, while the
14.5 billion bank notes will look the same throughout the euro area.
Between Jan. 1 and various dates in March 2002, both euros and local
currency can be used as legal tender.
Non-Eurozone cash, such as the U.S. or Canadian dollar or Britain's
pound sterling, will continue to be traded and changed as they are
now.
This week, the euro has hovered in the 92-93 cent range. Most bankers
and financial experts expect it to rise to at least one-to-one parity
with the U.S. dollar, after its initial decline last year from a
theoretical paper and electronic value of $1.17.
Retail and financial institutions will be supplied with euros
throughout the Eurozone about Sept. 15. Planning for the distribution
of the money is a closely guarded secret.
"This has got to be one of the highest-security banking operations
ever attempted," a senior official of Europol (the European police
organization based in The Hague) told ABCNEWS.com.
The ECB and individual central banks estimate guarded truck convoys
at least 12 miles long will carry the cash to distribution points.
In France, the armed forces have already been alerted and tasked to
protect the cash convoys against hijackers. Similar arrangements are
likely elsewhere, say Europol officials.
It is already required that all goods and services in Eurozone
countries have their prices displayed in euros and the local
currencies. The September distribution is to enable businesses and
banks to adjust their account-keeping facilities and prepare cash
dispensing machines.
By the end of March 2002, only the euro will be legal tender.
However, local currency can be exchanged at central banks for many
months after the official changeover.
Some major businesses requested earlier access to the new currency to
prepare for the changeover, but were turned down by the ECB.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - A rare earthquake believed to be the strongest
in Vietnam in a decade damaged many houses and sent panicked residents
into the streets, where they stayed all night to avoid aftershocks,
officials said Tuesday.
The 5.3-magnitude quake struck the town of Dien Bien Phu at 10:51 p.m.
Monday night, said Ho Sy Lam of the provincial People's Committee.
Aftershocks continued until Tuesday morning, he said.
Earthquake experts in Hanoi said the quake was the worst to hit
Vietnam in a decade. It also was the strongest to hit Lai Chau
province since 1983.
Many houses were damaged, and several people were injured as they
tried to escape, including some who jumped from balconies, Lam said.
There were no reports of deaths.
Some schools and office buildings damaged by the quake were closed
Tuesday for inspection, he said.
Lam said authorities were still assessing the damage.
Residents of Dien Bien Phu - the site of a historic victory by
Vietnamese forces against French colonialist forces in 1954 - did not
go back into their houses until morning, Lam said.
"People in the whole town could not sleep for fear of another quake,"
he said.

HAMAS LEADER DIES IN APPARENT ISRAELI TARGETED KILLING
A leader of the militant Palestinian Hamas was shot and killed from

RUSSIAN COMMUNISTS START BID TO SACK GOVERNMENT

Denver, Colo., January 24, 2001 -- Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite has
taken a detailed color photograph of the largest human gathering in the
history of the world, the Maha Kumbh Mela, a spiritual event held every
144 years in Northern India. The festival is expected to attract 70
million people to a sacred location on the Ganges River, 15 km from
Allahabad, for more than a month of bathing rituals. The IKONOS image,
which was collected the day before the most sacred and busiest bathing
day on Jan. 24, is available for free to the media.

otherwise, who attempt to portray Christians collectively as an unforgiving=
group who persecute those they deem wrong. Yet true Christians will be the=
first to admit that they are, or have been, guilty of many of the very thin=

that Scripture condemns. The notion that the Christian who condemns any suc=

behavior is unforgiving, 'intolerant', or a hypocrite in doing so is false.=
They are indeed espousing Christian views. All God's children are charged b=
y
Him to oppose these very things and to proclaim His word. The reason for
doing so is truly compassionate.
Forgiveness is only obtained through repentance. This means not only to=
feel regret for sin, but also to turn from sin and amend one's life.
I believe in Jesus, and that the Bible is His word. Nothing can change
this, and nobody can force me to believe otherwise.
=A0=A0 I have a question for all those who say that Christians are unforgiv=
ing
for espousing opposition to abortion, homosexuality, vulgarity, drug abuse,=
'assisted' suicide, and other acts that are sinful according to Scripture.=
Why is it so difficult for so many to understand that God is NOT forgiving=
toward the sinner who refuses to repent? It is clear that if He were, then=
there would be no Commandments, no hell, and no need for salvation.

PHOENIX (AP) - A doctor was convicted of manslaughter Tuesday in the
death of a patient following a late-term abortion. A former clinic
administrator was found guilty of negligent homicide. Dr. John
Biskind and Carol Stuart-Schadoff had both been charged with
manslaughter in the death of LouAnne Herron, who died after an
abortion at the now-closed A-Z Women's Center in Phoenix on April
17, 1998. An autopsy found Herron's uterus had been ruptured by a
medical instrument. The verdict capped one of Arizona's first
criminal cases against a doctor in a patient's death. Jurors
deliberated briefly following closing arguments Thursday and resumed
again Tuesday morning. Prosecutors claim Biskind, 75, and
Stuart-Schadoff, 63, caused the death by ignoring sonograms showing
that Herron, 33, had a more developed pregnancy and provided little
care for the patient as she bled heavily. Arizona law doesn't give a
specific date after which a doctor can no longer terminate a
pregnancy.

NAZRAN, Russia (AP) - Twelve Russian soldiers were killed in fighting
in Chechnya, while Russia bombed suspected rebel targets in the
mountains, an official said Tuesday. In the bloodiest attack, rebels
ambushed an Interior Ministry column near the town of Argun in
eastern Chechnya on Monday, throwing a large number of hand grenades
at the passing vehicles, an official in Chechnya's pro-Moscow
administration said. Five soldiers died immediately and an
undisclosed number were wounded, the official said. Meanwhile,
Russian jets targeted suspected rebel bases in four districts in the
mountains in southern Chechnya on Monday and Tuesday, the official
said. Russian troops entered Chechnya in 1999 after rebels based
there attacked a neighboring region, and after four apartment
bombings in Moscow and two other cities that killed about 300
people. Russian officials blamed the rebels for the blasts, but
rebel leaders denied responsibility.

Nike sports cap. All are personal effects of Palestinians and a
foreigner killed during nearly five months of violence, preserved in
an exhibition symbolizing their lives and their deaths. The
exhibition that opened Tuesday, called "100 Shaheed - 100 lives,"
features belongings from the dead, ranging from12-year-old Mohammed
Aldura, whose family donated his sports shoes, to 58-year-old taxi
driver Nabil Khater, whose key chain is displayed. Since the current
round of violence began on Sept. 28, 405 people have been killed,
including 333 Palestinians, 14 Israeli Arabs, 57 other Israelis and
a German doctor. Clear plastic cases holding the different
belongings reflect the soft light of the dimly lit halls. One man's
family donated a birdcage. Another family offered a water pipe.
"It's as if they are bearing testimony to...being a Palestinian.
These people's lives and their deaths bear witness to that," said
Adila Laidi, director of the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center, a

1. Barak resigns from political life
(BNI-FEB.21) Prime Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday night informed Prime
Minister-elect Ariel Sharon that he would not be serving as minister of
defense in his cabinet. Mr. Barak announced that on Wednesday, he would
announce his stepping down as head of the Labor Party. Mr. Barak made his
announcement in a fierce letter to Sharon, expressing harsh words over the
handling of the coalition negotiations and planned senior cabinet
appointment.
The decision is said to be final, in an obvious response to the mounting
opposition to Mr. Barak=92s leadership position from within his Labor Party=

In his letter to party secretary Raanan Cohen, Barak announced he would be
stepping down from all positions and would be leaving political life. Upon
formation of the new government, Mr. Barak will announce his resignation
from the Knesset.

2. Shooting victim in moderate condition
(BNI-FEB.21) According to officials in Hadassah Hospital, the victim of
the shooting attack near the Arab village of Tzourif earlier in the night
was brought into the trauma unit and remains in moderate condition.
Hospital spokeswoman Yael Bosem-Levy reports the victim to be a resident
of Efrat, 40, who was shot in the areas of his abdomen and chest. He has
been taken for emergency surgery.

Palestinians Debate including the Holocaust in the Curriculum
In a symposium held in Nicosia, Cyprus in April 2000, Palestinians and
Israelis discussed "How to Strengthen Peace through Education."
Representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia were also present.=
Heading the Israeli delegation was then Minister of Education, Yossi Sarid,=
and the Palestinian delegation was lead by Anis Al-Qaq, PA Undersecretary o=
f
Planning and International Cooperation.
Al-Qaq stated at the symposium that he is "interested in teaching the
history of the Holocaust in Arab and Palestinian schools=85 I believe that=
Palestine and the entire Arab world need to learn about the Holocaust, and=
therefore this subject should be included in the school curriculum." Al-Qaq=
added that "We cannot be proud of anything, until we know about the subject=
[of the Holocaust]." He admitted, however that "it will be difficult to
remove the anti-Israel expressions from the Arab curricula." (1)

one newspaper that omitted Al-Qaq's speech. The Arab media on the other
hand, reported that Al-Qaq told the Israeli Minister of Education that the=
PA established a committee of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of=
Planning and International Cooperation, to examine the possibility of
including the Holocaust in the Palestinian curriculum in the next school
year. Al-Qaq's remarks provoked anger among Palestinian intellectuals. =
Following is a survey of some of the responses by leading Palestinian figur=
es.
Dr. Musa Al-Zu'but, Chairman of the Education Committee of the Palestinian=
Legislative Council (PLC) said, "There will be no such attempt to include
the history of the Holocaust in the Palestinian curriculum. The Legislative=
Council enacted a law about the general framework [of the school
curriculum]. The Council in general, and the Education Committee in
particular, follow what is being taught in the curriculum, and evaluate
whether anything contradicts or harms Palestinian history."
Al-Zu'but continued, "The Holocaust has been exaggerated in order to presen=
t
the Jews as victims of a great crime, to justify [the claim] that Palestine=
is necessary as a homeland for them, and to give them the right to demand
compensation. When the history of the Holocaust is taught [in the
Palestinian schools], it must be explained to the students that the
Holocaust was inflated and that we, the Palestinians, had to live with the=
results: Our country, Palestine, was lost and was occupied by Israel. It is=
better to teach the students about what is happening to our people."
Al-Zu'but expressed his hope that in his statements, Al-Qaq intended that i=
t
must be taught that the Holocaust was blown out of proportion. He concluded=
by saying, "We [the Palestinians] have no interest in teaching the
Holocaust. If the purpose is to express sympathy, this is useless for us,
since we are the ones who suffered as a result."(2)
Chairman of the Political Committee of the PLC, Ziyad Abu Amr, asked what
explanation was given by Al-Qaq for the need to teach the Holocaust to
Palestinians. "Did Al-Qaq call for teaching the Holocaust because of Yossi=
Sarid's initiative to include Mahmoud Darwish's poems in the Israeli
curriculum?" he asked, adding: "Why must we teach the literature [i.e. the=
"Jewish version" of the Holocaust] of a people and a state who occupied our=
land? When the situation changes, we will be able to be more open to their=
literature and heritage, just as we are now in regard to other countries."
Abu Amr added that in any case "This topic cannot be mandatory. People who=
studied the history of the Holocaust in the past have come to very differen=
t
conclusions. Why, then, must we force our students to study the history and=
the heritage of the Jews? We are in dire need of studying our own heritage=
and history. Likewise, our relations with them must be recovered first,
through their recognition of our people's rights in their entirety. The
fundamental problems between us and them have not been solved and I do not=
believe that this is the time to program our children by teaching them
Jewish history in general, and not only the Holocaust." (3)
PLC Member and Fatah leader, Hatem Abd Al-Qader, said that teaching the
Holocaust in the Palestinian schools "is a great danger to the developing
Palestinian mentality. It would be dangerous to change the Palestinian
curriculum in such a direction. First, the Jews should learn about our
disaster, the massacres, the murder and the exile, because this disaster is=
still alive. As for the so-called Holocaust, it has already been moved into=
the museum of History."
Abd Al-Qader added, "We cannot annul the Palestinian historic dream, even i=
f
we remove it from the official Palestinian rhetoric=85 This land was promis=
ed
to us by Allah, while it was promised to the Jews by Balfour. If such a
decision [about teaching the Holocaust] is made, it will undoubtedly ruin
the Palestinian dream and aspirations. It will entirely obliterate the past=
,
present and future of the Palestinians. We, in the Legislative Council, wil=
l
oppose any experiment that might harm the mind, the identity or the histori=
c
roots of the Palestinians." (4)
Palestinian historian, Dr. Isam Sisalem, who has in the past denied the
existence of the gas chambers, expressed his amazement at Al-Qaq's
statements. "We as Palestinians," he said, "condemn the indiscriminate
killing of many people by the Germans, but we cannot allow that the killing=
of the Jews be used to oppress another nation, namely the Palestinians. The=
Nuremberg courts exploited [Jewish] lies to divide Palestine, claiming that=
the Jewish community had suffered annihilation and was in need of a homelan=
d
in which to settle. What interests us, however, is our own people who
suffered from the exile and destruction of thousands of its people. We are=
more entitled [than the Jews] to the support of all of the nations."
Dr. Sisalem said that, since the Stockholm convention in 2000 requiring all=
European states to include the history of the Holocaust in their curricula,=
the Western media has lied and exaggerated about the Holocaust. He said,
"The Zionist movement exploited it in order to disguise its loathsome crime=
s
in Palestine. It also continues to extort the European states to this very=
day. The truth is that the Zionist leaders negotiated with the Nazis and
signed agreements with them under which many Jews were expelled to
Palestine." (5)
Palestinian intellectual Abdallah Horani also expressed astonishment at
Al-Qaq's statements: "I don't believe that Israel and the Zionist movement=
need the efforts of the Palestinians to spread the false story about the
Holocaust. There are those whose loyalty to Israel=85 is greater than their=
loyalty to the national and Pan-Arab cause. Instead of talking about the
so-called Holocaust, Al-Qaq should have followed the doubts [about it] whic=
h
are gaining momentum in the international arena and among leading European=
intellectuals. He should have spoken about the massacres perpetratred by th=
e
Israelis against the defenseless Palestinian people, who, wherever they are=
found, still suffer from the cruel Zionist terror."
Al-Horani added that Al-Qaq's statements "remind him of those who
'volunteered' to refrain from talking about the return of the refugees to
the land from which they were driven out in 1948. These declarations come i=
n
the framework of what is known as the 'culture of peace,' which is supporte=
d
by the US... The goal of this 'culture of peace' is to propagate the
American interpretation of globalization, which means giving into the
American terms, and consequently to the Israeli terms. The meaning of this=
globalization is also to erase the memory of nations, to efface their
national heritage and history, [and to neutralize] any opposition to foreig=
n
ideological or cultural invasion."
Horani warned of the "culture of peace and its followers" in the region and=
called on Arab intellectuals who worry about the history and heritage of
their nation... to take an antagonistic approach towards this culture and t=
o
such a peace. (6)
Leader of the "Palestinian Islamic Jihad" Movement in Gaza, Sheik Nafez
'Azzam, said in reaction to Al-Qaq's statements that "in light of the
current political situation, one might start to believe sometimes that he
lives in an imaginary world. It is inconceivable that a nation would respec=
t
its murderers and the robbers of its rights and its land. Why do people
speak only of the Jewish victims in WWII, why don't we even mention our
[own] victims and martyrs?! Before anything else, we must teach the history=
of this conflict which symbolizes the great wrong done to the Palestinian
people, by the silence and conspiracies in which most of the world's
governments take part."
'Azzam stated, "Whoever puts his trust in brainwashing is bound to fail...=
Such a program will have no influence on the formation of the minds of the=
[sons of] nation. The intention to teach the Holocaust in the Palestinian
schools contradicts the natural order of the universe," he concluded. (7)
On the other hand, Sheik Jamal Mansour, a Hamas leader, said, "It is not
fair to deny the Holocaust or to diminish the importance of the persecution=
that the Jews have suffered. We must clearly condemn it and stand by the
oppressed whoever they may be and against the oppressor." However, Sheik=
Mansour explained that the problem is with "the West, which takes a rigid
stance when it comes to the history of the Jews with the Nazis and forces
all of the governments and peoples to teach one history of the Holocaust. I=
n
addition, the West uses Zionist historians in order to establish this
[narrative] and turn it into an axiom, which no one is allowed to question.=
"
"At the same time," adds Sheik Mansour, "they want us to forget all of the=
massacres, the tens of thousands of victims, the millions of exiles, our
confiscated land, our occupied land, and our blood which continues to be
spilled=85 The Jews have mobilized the so-called free and civilized world i=
n
order to bow the heads of its victims, to apologize for their history and t=
o
commit to their well-being and to protect their strength in the future, and=
all this because of one crazy man who was an enemy to the entire world and=
not the Jews alone, and who murdered 20 million Russians with his own

A brief news update this morning:
GILO, Jerusalem -- A gale storm tried to keep pace with Israel's
political storm yesterday and last night and its hard to say which one
got the upper hand before the calm this morning.
Sustained gale force winds averaging 60 kilometers per hour with gusts
twice that strong struck northern and central Israel from a
low-pressure cell further to the north. Nine persons were injured
including one woman seriously, when a tree fell on her. An Israeli
bus also was struck by a 3 foot diameter tree which a picture on page
one of this mornings's Jerusalem Post shows was pulled up by the
roots. Several roofs were blown off in Jerusalem along with shutters,
lawn furniture, solar panels, dude shemeshes (solar-powered water
heaters usually mounted on the roof). Virtually anything that was not
tied down was "blowin' in the wind." The Toto and Auntie Em jokes also
abounded. Snow also was forecast for much of Israel including the
higher elevations of Jerusalem, although it did not fall anywhere in
or around Jerusalem.
A single LIGHTNING BOLT also struck the city, its ragged zig-zag edges
illuminating the political sky for a brief moment. Ehud Barak, (Barak
means LIGHTNING), decided he would not be Sharon's defense minister
after all and announced he is resigning his post in the Knesset and
quitting politics. The master of Zig-Zag had been dragging his feet
since the February 6 election for Prime Minister delaying for 11
crucial days the formation of Prime Minister Elect Ariel Sharon's
cabinet.
Hopes for a unity coalition with Labor seem to be fading for Sharon
who yesterday promised Yisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Lieberman and
National Unity leader Rehavan Ze'evi that they both would be an
integral part of his coalition, against the wishes of Barak (before he
announced his resignation) and the Labor Party. Lieberman and Ze'evi
are considered part of the "far right" in Israel.
It appears that Sharon is now taking a tougher stance with the Labor
party, which is badly fragmented in view of the leadership vacuum and
political infighting since the Party, which had made the election for
prime minister a referendum for the peace process, was soundly
trounced by Sharon. Sharon is now hoping that there is enough
discontent in the direction Labor had been going that he can form a
narrower coalition with the Right and expect some support from the
more moderate voices in Labor. Yet he is holding the door open for a
unity coalition and apparently delaying by one more week the formation
of his cabinet to give Labor a chance to re-group.
Delays are becoming crucial now because he has a March 31 deadline to
form a cabinet AND pass a budget. If the budget is not passed by
March 31, then President Moshe Katzav could order the entire Knesset
to be dissolved and new elections held for every Knesset seat and the
Prime Minister. If that happens, former Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu is sure to re-enter the political arena. Earlier this week,
Netanyahu predicted the Sharon government would not survive longer
than three months.
It had been obvious that the government of Sharon could not succeed so
long as Labor was a UNIFIED opposition. But Barak's zig-zagging has
had the effect of pinker shears (not sure I spelled that right) across
the fabric of the party and the Labor Party today is anything but
unified.
Meanwhile for the fourth consecutive night our Jerusalem suburb of
Gilo was under fire from the Palestinian "settlement" town of Beit
Jala. (Again, it is time that we start thinking of the enemies of
Israel as temporary in nature and dwelling place). IDF forces
responded to heavy caliber machine gun fire with its heavy guns from a
tank now protecting Gilo and the Tunnel Road leading to the south, and
machine guns. Last night they hit their target. One terrorist was
killed and about 20 others injured by shrapnel from the tank blasts,
which also destroyed two buildings.
Also about 900 apartments with windows and outer walls facing Beit
Jala were being bullet-proofed beginning today. This was promised
more than three months ago so some of the residents here who had had
to abandon those rooms (and had their apartments up for sale -- and of
course they would not sell in a war zone) -- are taking down the signs
this morning.

Dear Ronni:
I have been reading the different reactions of list members to the
suggestion that our new president is less that pristine. I think we all
have to bear in mind is that God has put George W. Bush into the
position of President of the United States, for His reasons. When we
know the mind of God we will know those reasons but until then we can
only know what He has chosen to tell us in the Bible, ‘the secret place
of the Most High´. The fact that God put W in the position he is in
does not make W a Christian. God put Hitler into the position of
Chancellor of the Third Reich. I am pretty sure Hitler was not a
Christian so there is no reason to conclude the W is either, but I do
not know. The only one who knows is God, Himself. Praise the Lord!
I do not think there is any doubt the One World Government and the One
World Religion did not ‘just happen´ to have come into being. I am sure
God is behind it, for His own reasons, but the actual ‘creation´ of
those two entities has been the work of some group, or groups, of people
- whom God also put where they are. Many of the individuals that belong
to those groups, I feel sure, truly seek to achieve peace on earth and
rid the world of poverty and disease and, for that, I cannot fault them,
their intentions are ‘honorable´ but they are being misled. They are
believing the myths being promulgated by the leadership of those
groups. However, again, I think this is God´s handiwork. He put
Pharoah into the position he was in so that Egypt could provide the
training ground God required in which the 12 tribes could grow into the
nation God made them into, the Nation of Israel, and I think God has set
the world stage we are all part of today. I think He will, shortly, be
ringing down the curtain on the present ‘Christian Era´ and that He will
then start the final week of Daniel´s 70 weeks of years. During that
time the descendants of the 12 tribes, those who have chosen not to
enter the place promised by God, the place being prepared for those who
accept Jesus Christ as His Son, will be given a final chance to do so.
Many will harden their hearts, just as Pharoah repeatedly hardened his
heart, but many will be prepared to leave the ‘Egypt´ of this world and
enter the place promised by God, through the door that is Jesus Christ
of Nazareth. Praise the Lord!
Excuse my long-windedness, please, but it saddens me that so many
choose not to stick with the word and leave all the other stuff alone.
The 1,290 and 1,335 days, for instance, can mean anything you want them
to mean, if you take them out of context. I do not think there is any
doubt that God put the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky as signs
but that is all they are, signs, the destinations are given in the Bible
and we have to be very sure we are reading the signs correctly,
otherwise we will arrive at the wrong destination. I choose to stick
with the signs in the word, and in the world, and leave the signs in the
sky to the Lord.

The violence of October 2000 was a clear sign that the peace process
was a fake from the beginning. If false peace is the theme of the
Tribulation Period, then the 1990s and the so-called peace process for
Israel aptly predicted the Tribulation.
Even New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, certainly a Jewish
admirer of Arafat and all other Arabs, had to admit that =93=85for the firs=
t
time in a long time, Mr. Arafat no longer has the moral high ground=85
Instead of responding to Mr. Barak=92s peace-making overture, he and his
boys responded to Ariel Sharon=92s peace-destroying provocation. Imagine
if, when Mr. Sharon visited the Temple Mount, Mr. Arafat had ordered
his people to welcome him with open arms and say, =91When this area is
under Palestinian sovereignty, every Jew will be welcome, even you, Mr.
Sharon.=92 Imagine the impact that would have had on the Israelis.=94
Obviously, Arafat and the Palestinians could have had peace any time
since the Madrid conference in 1991 or the Oslo agreements in 1993. But
they were busy gathering up as much land as possible under the =93land for=
peace=94 principle, and they refused to close the deal. The terms offered b=
y
Prime Minister Barak in the Camp David meetings of the year 2000
amounted to a very serious offer to conclude the endless negotiations.
Arafat should have taken the deal; he at least should have treated it with=
the serious consideration it deserved. He would have gained practically all=
he ever dreamed of, including part of Jerusalem, practically all of the Wes=
t
Bank, and a new Palestinian state.
Instead, the Palestinians opted for some ghetto rioting they called the
=93War for Independence=94 or the =93Battle for Jerusalem,=94 which was ove=
r in
a few weeks with some 300 casualties, mostly on their side. They
demonstrated that they were no better than the Somalians when they
murdered prisoners and dragged bodies through the streets. They
attacked the mightiest power in the Middle East with rocks and assumed
the world would jump in and help them. A Palestinian father suspiciously
placed his 12-year-old child between himself and the gunfire, and after the=
boy was riddled with bullets which the Israelis ultimately established were=
Palestinian bullets, asked the world for vengeance against Israel over the=
death of his son. The father survived.
CNN desperately tried to foment a war in view of the fact that they=92re in=
the war business, so to speak. During the Iraqi war, they dramatically
increased the prices of their commercials. They became wealthy covering
the Bosnian war, but now, try as they would, they couldn=92t make a major
war out of what amounted to the same casualty rate as any American city
endures on a constant basis. WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas, called
me during that week and urged me to testify that the Israelis were in grave=
danger and that the whole place was going up in smoke. I told them I
wouldn=92t say that, and I said that what was going on in Israel amounted t=
o
the sort of rioting we had in Los Angeles and Detroit in past times. They,=
of course, did not use my thoughts on the news.
The media bias against Israel is overwhelming and ubiquitous throughout
the world. There seems to be a bias toward the Arabs, mostly based on
the fact that commercials are purchased by petro-dollar products on a
large scale. Plastics, cosmetics, and the like represent a very profitable=
business sector for all media, and they respond like any business, catering=
to their best customers.
We=92ve said all this before, but it certainly isn=92t getting any better. =
This
time, CNN looked almost ridiculous, desperately trying to broadcast a
war when there was truly little happening in the way of real hostility. The=
only true action worth reporting was the Israeli response to the murdering=
of prisoners in Ramallah. They demonstrated their skills to the Palestinian=
s
with razor-sharp surgical strikes on the police station where the prisoners=
were killed, a radio station, and, in effect, Arafat=92s front yard in Gaza=
.
Even the Palestinians could appreciate that they had a formidable
enemy=97 patient but deadly.
With Teeth and Tongue
In reality, the Arabs have been trying to dig the Jews out of Israel since=
1948, when Israel declared its independence. It seems that it is intolerabl=
e
for Arabs to have any other people anywhere in the Middle East, a
territory they regard as =93The Arab world.=94 They wouldn=92t make very
good Europeans, because they can only stand their own company and
consider all others as intruders. And so, in every decade of Israel=92s
existence, the Arabs have attacked, sometimes with the teeth and
sometimes with the tongue.
For example, in the =9140s when Israel declared its independence, five Arab=
nations attacked from all sides to conquer and annihilate their new
neighbors. Even though the UN had sanctioned Israel=92s right to recover it=
s
ancient land, the surrounding Arab nations would not put up with the idea
and attacked immediately. One can only contemplate how different a
Middle East we would have today if the Arabs had simply said,
=93Welcome back. We know you were here in Biblical times, and we know
that we have lived together previously. You have only a small tract of
land. And we appreciate the fact that, like some Arabs, you have been
displaced, and you deserve your own country.=94 By this time, with Arab
money and Jewish brains, the Middle East might well have been the
paradise of the world.
But instead, there was a short and bloody war in which somehow the new
Israelis held their ground. Refugees from Europe, they could hardly find
common languages, and they were armed basically with handguns and
hunting rifles, but they defeated five Arab armies and defended their new
state.
In the =9150s, Israel received generous Jewish immigration from all parts o=
f
the world and grew in stature and strength. In 1956, there was a battle
primarily with Egypt, in which Israel quickly prevailed.
So the Israelis triumphed in a second war and solidified their tenuous
position as the only democracy among the sea of Arab dictatorships.
The =9160s were a decade of destiny, so to speak, since the Arabs came up
with a new idea. They began to call themselves =93Palestinians,=94 though t=
his
term previous to 1948 had referenced only the Jews of what was then
called Palestine. The Jewish newspaper known today as The Jerusalem
Post was then called The Palestine Post.
It bears repeating that the term =93Palestinian=94 has nothing to do with A=
rabs,
either historically or in modern times. Israel=92s name was changed to
Palestine by Emperor Hadrian in 135 AD in another of those =93final
solutions to the Jewish problem.=94 He chose that name because it harked
back to the Philistines who lived along the coast of the Gaza region
centuries before and who were a perennial enemy of Israel. But those
Philistines themselves were not Arabs, but Greeks. They were people
from the Adriatic Sea who settled along many coastlines in the Middle
East to pursue their fishing and other marine enterprises. There is no
connection whatever between Arabs, who were not yet known in the
world at the time of the Philistines, and the Philistines themselves.
But the term was effective on the uneducated media of the world.
Palestine somehow became an Arab nation with a long history. In truth, it
was a Roman, then Moslem, then Crusader, then Marmaluke, then
Ottoman-Turkish, then British Mandate country, from 135 AD to 1948.
but it was never controlled by an organized, internal government. There
are no =93Palestinian=94 documents or currency or government records such
as any bona fide nation leaves behind. The land of Israel, with its rightfu=
l
owners away, was simply a backwater territory for whomever might settle
there. But with the foundation of the PLO, the Palestine Liberation
Organization, in the 1960s, the Arabs began to think of themselves as a
people with a long heritage in the land.
Also germane to the =9160s and to what is happening today was the Six-
Day War of 1967, in which the Jews recovered all of Jerusalem, the West
Bank, the Golan Heights and virtually the entire Sinai Desert over to the
Nile River. In truth, the young nation totally routed its enemies, humiliat=
ing
the much larger powers of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, in a war so quickly
over that the networks hardly had time to raise prices on their commercial=
advertisements.
After three consecutive defeats, it might be thought the Arabs would be
wary of attacking Israel, which was becoming stronger militarily with each=
experience. And yet, the decade of the =9170s was characterized by a new
assault on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, a cowardly blow on the
holiest day of the Jewish year, when soldiers were not at their posts and
all were at prayer. In this manner, they got in a first punch, but were
defeated in two to three weeks in any case. The Israelis consolidated their=
gains, and the Arabs turned to using diplomacy, propaganda and other
weapons of the tongue.
Later, in the =9170s, we began the process of false peace, which ultimately=
led to the street riots of fall 2000. The Camp David Accords were first,
returning the Sinai to Egypt in what has proved to be a cold peace but at
least a non-shooting arrangement with Egypt. The boycotts of oil, begun
in the late =9170s, were very effective in persuading the West that the
Israelis were somehow the bad guys. The message was that the Arabs
would withhold oil because Israelis did things which frustrated them, and
therefore Americans would wait in line for gas. This began the blaming-of-
the-victims stage in Israel=92s affairs. Though they were the assaulted par=
ty
in every case, they began to seem like the bullies of the Middle East.
Helped by general anti-Semitism and the ignorance of the popular media,
the image stuck, and today, the five million Israelis are regarded as
enormously stronger than the 200 million Arabs! One small nation is
somehow oppressing 22 big ones!
In the =9180s, the bad-mouthing of Israel continued unabated, and the
=93Palestinians=94 hit upon the Intifada. Schoolchildren would throw stones=
at
Israeli policemen and soldiers and, when the Israelis would respond with
megaphones, rubber bullets, and sometimes real bullets to hold their
ground, the news media would portray them as heartless and brutal. It
was unbelievable that a single viewer would buy it, but it was bought lock,=
stock and barrel, and now tiny Israel, one of the world=92s smallest
democracies, was being thought of as an overwhelming, imperialistic
power!
At the same time, in Christian circles, seminaries in Europe and America
turned away from the idea of the new Israel being a fulfillment of
prophecy. Moody Bible Institute, Dallas Theological Seminary, Biola
College, Talbot Seminary, and many other evangelical schools in the
states began teaching various forms of End Times prophecy that
somehow excluded Israel. Progressive Dispensationalism, an idea that
holds that Christ is already sitting on the throne of David, thus placing a=
Kingdom event in the Church age, took hold and made normal
Dispensationalism seem unimportant.
Graduates from these seminaries began pasturing churches which de-
emphasized Israel. And today, as God works furiously in that land, the
most =93educated=94 evangelicals know little about the subject. Ironically,=
these graduates will, in the Kingdom, be the least equipped among
Christians when living in the land they know so vaguely for 1,000 years.
Wit the defection of a portion of American Christianity, Israel was rapidly=
running out of friends in this world. The media was endlessly critical, and=
even the American government began to, at least for public consumption,
turn against its former ally on the issue of the Intifada. The rioting=97no=
isy
but almost harmless=97was touted to the world as a dangerous war in the
offing and, therefore, in the style of the =9190s, a peace conference was
called to order in Madrid, Spain.
The =9190s were entirely a decade of false peace treaties, whether in Israe=
l,
Ireland, South Africa, India or anywhere else. Rather than finding true
solutions to conflicts, government officials got together in fine hotels an=
d
were photographed toasting each other for brilliant peace-making
initiatives. Nobel Peace Prizes were given to the most unworthy
recipients, most notably Yasser Arafat, a lifelong terrorist who had
murdered or ordered the murders of large numbers of innocents. Phony
peace was thought to be better than no peace, and although the public
was slow to buy it, the media cooperated with various governments in
promoting things like the Middle East =93peace process.=94 It was likely
called a =93process=94 because the sides never agreed on anything=97not fro=
m
the first session to the present moment, and not one inch of progress has
been made toward peace in Israel.
False peace is a very important point in prophecy. It is the Antichrist=92s=
prime weapon in dominating the nations and controlling the world. He is
able to promote the same myth on a global scale so that nations
everywhere feel they are at peace even while they are mobilizing for
Armageddon. How he does this is a mystery, but it is elucidated
somewhat by how pretentious the peace conferences of the =9190s have
been. People evidently are willing to consider officials toasting each othe=
r
with champagne and handshakes over complex documents to be an
adequate substitute for real peace, and so, as the prophet Daniel said of
the Antichrist, =93=85by peace shall he destroy many=94 (8:25).
Thus, modern Israel=92s fifty-odd years can be divided into decades, and
that tempts one to imagine the Tribulation is just around the corner. After=
all, false peace was established in the =9190s, and it would seem rational =
that
the Antichrist would capitalize on this theme in the first decade of the ne=
w
millennium. That part we really don=92t know, but all that has happened
since the 1940s in Israel and the rest of the world certainly gives us food=
for thought on that subject.
And thus Israel, ever God=92s timepiece, is again the prime indicator for t=
he
progress of events in prophecy.

I=92m getting tired.
I am tired of all the errors out there. I=92m tired of the almost total dar=
kness
about what the Scriptures say in regard to our modern state of affairs,
prophecy, doctrine and even Christian living. I=92m tired of picking up the=
religion section of my home-town newspaper and finding it to be nothing
but a bunch of stories about loony cults, learned discussions of
homosexuality and the like by liberals, Sacramental mumbo-jumbo, and
praises of Ramadan and other Islamic activities. I=92m tired of pointing ou=
t
to seminaries their bald-faced Bible errors and having them tell me lies
about how it doesn=92t matter or how few professors are teaching them.
And I=92m totally tired of the media and its ridiculous bias against Israel=
. All
things spiritual are scoffed at in the press and on television, and most
certainly Israel and the Chosen People are defamed, slandered, libeled
and cursed as they have not been since the Nazi years.
Telling CNN and the other media organizations to quit making up lies
about Israel and the situation there is like telling Hollywood to quit maki=
ng
dirty, violent movies. The bottom-line answer from both would be, =93It=92s=
what the public wants, and that=92s how we make our money.=94 In view of
the fact that the unbeliever=92s love of money cannot be satisfied any othe=
r
way, the abuse will go on. William Randolph Hearst stated, =93You get me
the pictures, I=92ll provide the war.=94
But in the case of the violent or sexy movies, they are dealing with
people=92s hearts and visceral responses to almost psychological stimuli. I=
n
Israel=92s case, they=92re simply giving a false picture and dealing with
people=92s brains. It is a lot easier to switch to the truth about Israel, =
which
can be made just as dramatic with all that=92s really going on in that land=
.
And I=92m sick to death of the Palestinians and their protestations. They a=
re
not victims, they are not truthful, they are not owners of the land of Isra=
el,
they are not even a nation or an indigenous people. And with all of that, I=
am tired of our government bowing and scraping before the likes of
Yasser Arafat and other Middle Eastern tyrants as though these feudal
Arab dictatorships were real nations or that they had anything to offer us=
but oil.
The fact is there is a similarity between what the Arabs and the media are=
up to. They share the characteristic that they tell lies and that they know=
they are lies while they tell them. While not every Arab person is educated=
in history or politics, the leadership well knows that there was no such
culture as a Palestinian one, and the media knows that there is no war in
Israel. But every one has to believe in something, and the media believes
in cash profits, and the Arabs believe in grabbing land. Both have a long
history of compromising every ethic to those goals.
If one does not know God, one tends to worship earthly gods of one=92s
own. And so the British have their monarchy, the communists have their
controlling politburos, and the Arabs and the media have their icons as
well. The peculiar part is that in all of those cases the great mass of peo=
ple
know that what they =93believe in=94 is simply not true. The British monarc=
hy
is invariably ineffective and disappointing, the communist dictators are
incompetent and bloody, etc.
The worship of lies reminds me of a program called =93Top Ten=94 which ran=
recently on the A&E channel. The top ten television commercials were
being celebrated, and among those was a picture of two men, supposedly
named Bartles and Jaymes, who claimed that they had a vineyard and a
soft drink company and had teamed up to make something called a wine
cooler. The commercial was praised, the actors were congratulated, and
the advertising gurus were interviewed and commented sagely on the
entire display. But it was a lie from start to finish. There really was no=
Bartles, there was no Jaymes; they did not own a vineyard or a soft drink
company. Gallo Brothers of California, a gigantic winery, made the
product but didn=92t sign it on purpose. The myth needed to be carried out=
because people =93believed.=94 After all, the truth about a product (or a
country) comes out by itself; you have to pay to create a lie.
The unbeliever lies all the time and virtually worships his own lies. But o=
ur
Lord said, =93Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice=94 (John 18:37)
and He taught His disciples how privileged they were to know the truth
(Matt 13:11-13). He is, after all, the Way, THE TRUTH, and the Life
(John 14:6).
The key to any solution to Israel=92s problems is understanding the
psychology and motivations of the Arab people in the land. This is where
western ideas fail. It is not a question of giving them compensations or
even parcels of land or control of holy sites that will get them to stop
rioting. The truth is, they will be unhappy as long as they remain in
backward dictatorships and are uneducated and barely a part of the 21st-
century world. What the Arabs need more than anything else (besides
true faith in the Messiah) is democracy. All the chest-thumping
indignation, all the violence, all the cursing and everything else that com=
es
out of them would cease if they were only free people. There is nothing
intrinsically the matter with them; I know many Arabs, and they are
intelligent, normal people on every subject except their religion and their=
=93government.=94 Some changes need to be made.
And I am tried of being criticized for insisting that seminaries simply tea=
ch
the plain Word of the Bible as written. I do not hold to arcane doctrines
or anything unusual. To say that Israel is important is to speak the
obvious. To say that the Jewish people are to be loved is again to speak
the obvious. To say that seminaries ought to teach what the bible says is,=
a third time, to speak the obvious. Why do I have to speak the obvious
over and over again?
Is there anybody out there (apart from our viewers and readers) who will
at least say, =93Well, you=92re right, you know. But what you say is not
convenient.=94 Will any person at any seminary or any reporter at a
newspaper or any Palestinian Arab or any Roman Catholic or
Episcopalian or liberal Protestant open their mouth and say, =93By gosh,
you have a point!=94 Is that going to happen in my lifetime?
Mostly, I guess, I=92m almost growing weary of waiting for the Lord. Why
doesn=92t He come now that things are really prepared? I am getting old,
and I=92ve been waiting for Him for almost half of my life. I guess we coul=
d
all say that, along with the church of Thessalonica, who pointed out to
Paul that some believers in their congregation had even died while waiting.
Can He be far off? I doubt it. The way the situation looks to real Bible
readers today, the Lord=92s prophecies are working out precisely for the
Tribulation Period in our near future. That one salient fact about
everything going on around us today picks me up again. I=92m not tired of
that, I can tell you! I pray with John of Revelation, =93Come quickly, Lord=
Jesus=94 (Bible, last verse).

In another stunning turnaround, outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Barak has
decided to quit politics, and not to serve as defense minister in a
national unity government. Barak had been under pressure from members
of his own Labor party to keep his promise to take a time out from
political life, after his humiliating election defeat two weeks ago.
Ariel Sharon=92s Likud party said despite Barak=92s decision it would
continue to work for a broad government. "The negotiations will
continue with the Labor party team on forming a unity government. The
negotiations are with a party, not with a person," said Raanan Gissin,
a Likud spokesman. "The majority of Labor members was not against a
unity government but against Barak being defense minister." The Labor
Central Committee is due to meet next Monday to consider whether to
join the coalition. Powerful Labor doves like Oslo architect Yossi
Beilin are fighting to keep Labor out, saying a unity government would
kill the peace process. However, many Labor Knesset members believe
the elections are proof that the people have rejected Beilin=92s peace
policies, and therefore, Labor should join the government to deal with
the crisis Israel is facing with the Palestinians.
An 18-year-old Palestinian was killed last night when an Israeli tank
shell landed on his home in the village of Beit Jala, adjacent to the
Jewish neighborhood of Gilo in Jerusalem. In a rare move, Israel
initiated the fire, saying soldiers detected Palestinian gunmen moving
into the village. Ten homes were damaged and another erupted in flames
after being hit by shells and machine gun fire, witnesses said. Gunmen
have frequently fired on Gilo from Beit Jala, turning the suburb into
a war zone. In other violence, an Israeli was shot and wounded as he
drove near his home in the community of Efrat, near Bethlehem. At
least 20 bullets penetrated the car and two hit the man. Near the West
Bank town of Jenin, an Israeli helicopter was forced to land and
rescue an undercover unit that failed to capture a member of the
Moslem fundamentalist group Hamas. In Hebron, a Palestinian woman was
arrested for stabbing and wounding a Jewish seminary student.
Palestinians held another anti-American rally in Gaza today, to
protest the US air strike on Iraq last week. "Bush is a coward! The
Iraqi people will not be humiliated!" chanted hundreds at the UN
office in Gaza City, as they waved Iraqi flags and posters of Saddam
Hussein. Palestinians consider Saddam a hero among Arab leaders
because he fired Scud missiles at Israel during the Gulf War in 1991
and defied the Western powers. Saddam has also given $10,000 grants to
the families of each Palestinian killed in the five-month-old
intifada.

The State Department has initiated an internal review of Israel's use
of U.S. weapons in its campaign to assassinate alleged terrorists,

TRADE DEFICIT HITS ALL-TIME HIGH
America's trade deficit with the rest of the world shot up to an all-

SYNTHETIC VIRUS NEARING REALITY
Scientists will have the technology to create a wholly artificial

WESTERN WALL RABBI RESPONDS TO MOSLEM CHARGE
"The ruling of the mufti of Jerusalem, saying that Western Wall is

RELIGIOUS GROUPS RAISE CONCERNS WITH BUSH PLAN
Raising concerns of potential discrimination and coercion, religious
groups are quietly objecting to President Bush's plan to allow
churches, synagogues and other religious bodies to compete for

YMCA goes on anti-Israel crusade
The World Alliance of YMCAs, based in Geneva, has placed on the Internet
lengthy reports based on a five-day visit to "Palestine" in November. The
reports concluded that "the one-sided nature of the conflict demands that the
YMCA take the side of the oppressed Palestinian people." The two main
reports in question make no mention of Israeli fatalities.
Alliance official Ranjan Solomon admitted to journalists that the report's
authors did not "get around" to visit Israeli relatives of terror victims. But he
explained to the "Jerusalem Report" that, "As Christians, we are commanded
to seek justice, and the teaching of Jesus Christ instructs us to defend the
weaker side. In this conflict, that would be the Palestinians."
But Kenneth Gladish, national executive director of YMCA in the US has
written a letter to Geneva, distancing his group from the reports. "The
language, tone, and characterizations included in the report do nothing to aid
the true cause of peace and stability, nor do they position the YMCA for
effective service across the boundaries of dispute," he wrote in his Feb. 1
letter. "These documents are inappropriate and can serve only to inflame the
long-standing tensions in the region, according to ICEJ News - International

The landmark Jerusalem YMCA on King David Street is under the auspices of
the US branch, which is rejecting the path taken by the global office. Arnold
Collins, spokesman for the US branch/YMCA, told the "Report" the American
group is committed to remaining politically neutral in the region. The Simon
Wiesenthal Center has criticized the reports as "a virtual rubber stamp for
continued Palestinian violence," and has initiated an international campaign to
have YMCAs around the world stop funding the world center.

INTRODUCTION
Salim Al-Za'anun, Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) has
threatened to contest Israel's UN membership. In addition he has declared
that Israel's Knesset building is on Palestinian land and called for its
removal
The following is the text of the article that appeared in today's
Palestinian Authority daily Al-Ayyam.
"Salim Al-Za'anun: If Israel Continues to Reject Decision 194,
The PLO Will Contest Israel's Membership in the UN
"The chairman of the Palestinian National Council, Salim A-Za'anun, said
that the Palestinian Liberation Organization will contest Israel's
membership in the UN if it continues to reject [UN] Decision 194 regarding
the return of [Palestinian] refugees, and if it refuses to withdraw from the
Palestinian territories conquered in 1967.
"...Za'anun threatened [the PLO] will retreat from its acceptance of
resolution 242 and the amendment of the Palestinian National Charter if
Israel continues to ignore the rights of the Palestinian nation. He said
that there would be a return to square one of the dispute and to [UN 1947
Partition] Decision 181, which endows to the Palestinian people some 45% of
historic Palestine.
"...he added: '[Israel's Parliament] the Knesset stands on Palestinian land,
it must be removed so that the permanent seat of the [Palestinian] National
Council my be erected there.
"Za'anun declared these during a ceremony launching the 1,000,000 signature
campaign to return the refugees, held in Dir Al-Balakh [Gaza Strip refugee
camp].

EU BANS UK MEAT AND MILK EXPORTS (Extract from London Times)
Britain's farming industry was in crisis tonight after the
European Union banned Britain from exporting meat, livestock and milk
to the rest of the EU until March 1, following an outbreak of
foot-and-mouth disease among pigs in southeast England.
A statement from the EU's head office in Brussels said:
"The decision will apply immediately and shall be reviewed at the
meeting of the Standing Veterinary Committee scheduled for the 27
February 2001."
The ban applies to all livestock, fresh meat and meat products,
milk and milk products, hides and skins and other animal products
unless they were obtained before February 1, or treated in a way that
the risk of spreading the food-and-month virus is avoided.
Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious viral disease of cattle
and pigs. Typical symptoms are lameness and a lack of appetite, while
the disease is also characterised by blisters in the mouth causing
increased salivation. It does not pose any danger to human health.
A veterinary inspector first discovered the outbreak on Monday after 27
infected pigs were found at the Essex abattoir.
The National Farmers' Union (NFU) warned that the outbreak of
foot-and-mouth could prove "disastrous" for British livestock farmers.
Following recent outbreaks of swine fever, the NFU said its beleaguered
members were facing yet another crisis at a time when they "already
have too many problems to deal with".
