Dear Steven,
Have you noticed also the connection of the number 12 to the woman, the chu=
rch. I read your response to Charlie Baker's post that you connect the Chur=
ch with the symbol of a woman. I quote your post:
"The Church is always referred to as a woman......even false churches, such=
as
the woman riding the beast. In the Old Testament, GOD likened pagan idol
worship to fornification. Why should it mean anything different here?
With GOD's Peace,
Steven Sykes" end of quote
Quote from Charlie Baker:
"As you know, 144,000; 12,000 from each tribe of Israel, will be sealed
by God at the beginning of Daniel=E2=80=99s 70th week. It appears they wil=
l
witness during the 7 years and, later, =E2=80=98a great multitude which no =
man
could number=E2=80=99 will stand before the throne of the Lamb. Rev. 7 tel=
ls us
of the sealing of the 144,000 and then of the multitude. I think this
multitude will be those who come to accept Jesus Christ as the Son of
God during the 7 years and some will do so as the result of the
witnessing of the 144,000. Praise the Lord!" (end quote)
Both the numbers seven and twelve play an important part in His-story's las=
t chapter. Respectively these numbers seen to be linked with male (7) and f=
emale (12). Then Revelations can be seen as the consummate union of Christ=
, the Bridegroom, and the Church, the Bride. In my article linked below the=
re is a list of about 70 Bible stories displaying this same number pattern.=
The number 40 also completes the pattern of alluding to human reproductio=
n as 40X7 is 280 the days of a human pregnancy (often referred to as the 40=
weeks of pregnancy).
Note how often God's Word, the Seed (in Greek "sperma") is associated with =
the number seven is presented to a female symbol characterized with the num=
ber twelve and given a period of gestational time of 40.
Noah, who had 120 years to preach, was given by God seven days until judgem=
ent, got into an Ark the volume (5x5x5x5x5x12x12) at which time it rained f=
or 40 days and 40 nights. His life is a testimony to God's grace living 600=
(12x50) years before the flood and 350 (7x50) after the flood.
The people of God were grouped in 12 tribes before Jesus' arrival and 7 chu=
rches after. David took 5 shewbread and turned the 12 into 7 left on the T=
able. Joseph dreams of 7 cows and 12 sheaths of wheat. The way to the Holie=
st of Holies is flanked with 7 candles and 12 shewbread. The High Priest sp=
rinkles the Ark 7 times and also sacrificed on an altar 12x12 cubits. At Pe=
ntecost, it is 120 believers to receive God's Spirit. Refer to my article =
to see numbers in the events surrounding Jesus, Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Solo=
mon, Jacob, Joshua, Paul, the return from exile, Jonah, Ruth, Daniel, Esthe=
r, the Feast, Loaves and Fishes Miracle Feeding.
I'm amazed that this pattern is not more universally seen and I was angry w=
ith God for keeping it so hidden that others don't also 'see' it. Yet,it i=
s characteristic of our God to 'hide' things out in the open to reveal at H=
is chosen time. This treasure of Scripture symbolism in the surface text w=
ith number words is simple to understand and has been commented by some to =
seem to 'fix' with Scripture. "Let him that has wisdom count...."

CIA Director George Tenet told the Senate Intelligence
Committee on Wednesday that the high-tech skills of known
terrorists are growing rapidly, echoing a news report that
said some groups use the Web to communicate highly encrypted
messages. Tenet said terrorists are "becoming more
operationally adept and more technically sophisticated in
order to defeat counter terrorism measures," adding that
"international terrorist networks have used the explosion of
information technology to advance their capabilities." The
organization of Osama bin Laden, who is wanted for the deadly
bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa, remains the biggest
threat, Tenet said. USA Today on Tuesday quoted sources as
saying bin Laden's group and other terrorist organizations
are using online chat rooms and pornography sites to help
hide their communications.
The CIA's venture capital arm, a nonprofit firm known as
In-Q-Tel, has spent about a year scouring the info-tech world
for ideas that could help the agency and computer security in
general. In-Q-Tel's chief strategist, Christopher Tucker,
told Computerworld that the Arlington, Va., based firm
occasionally has been surprised at what is available. "We
have succeeded at luring companies to come in and show us
stuff that even we are shocked by," Tucker said. "Often,
these weird solutions are only weird because they are new. As
soon as you see them, you think, 'My God, everyone is going to
do that.' But right now, only some narrow niche industry uses
it, or maybe some little company hasn't even announced it yet."
An example of such a niche industry: The Las Vegas company
Systems Research and Development has developed
collusion-detection software that uses collected information
to help spot cheaters and card counters. The CIA thinks the
system could be adapted to track potential spies. In-Q-Tel,
named in honor of Q, the fictional scientist who provides
James Bond with all his gizmos, started with $28.5 million
in funding from the CIA.

Ha'aretz: (+ IMRA) Israeli Arabs want to cross examine witnesses to
commission of inquiry of Arab riots
By Ori Nir Ha'aretz Correspondent Ha'aretz 9 February 2001
[IMRA: Here is a story no one is following that may ultimately be a PR
disaster for Israel - and much more: The Israeli Arabs, following the
instructions of their leadership, refused to testify before the state
commission investigating the death of the Israeli Arabs in the riots.
Rather than taking the obvious PR route and announcing an open call
for witnesses to appear at location X on day Y and showing the world
that no one was coming in the door and then basing their investigation
on the material the police and anyone willing to cooperate, the state
commission will now rely on the testimony of Israeli Arabs as filtered
by an Israeli Arab law group that collected and processed all the
Israeli Arab testimony.
It should be noted that the state commission was formed at the
insistence of the very same Arab leadership that issued the call not
to cooperate directly with the commission.
And now, to make matters worse, this same legal group is pressing for
the participation of lawyers representing the dead Israeli Arabs in
the questioning of the testifying police.
The results? Since this is a state commission, their conclusions have
much more than PR significance: police may face charges.
Normally the Ministry of Internal Security would take an interest in
protecting the police from unfair prosecution, but Minister Shlomo Ben
Ami has a different agenda. His top priority has been to distance
himself from the death of Israeli Arabs in the October riots so that
he can be a viable candidate for prime minister, ]
Adalah, an organization that promotes civil rights for Israeli Arabs,
plans to demand widespread changes in the procedures of the commission
of inquiry that is investigating the Arab riots of last October, on
the basis of lessons learned by its representatives during a recent
visit to Britain and Northern Ireland.
Adalah (The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel) first
plans to demand that the families of the 13 Israeli Arabs killed by
police during the riots be given legal representation. Lawyers for the
families should be able to examine all the material submitted to the
commission and to cross-examine witnesses who testify before it, the
organization said.
"Without the basic right of legal representation, there is no point in
continuing to cooperate with the commission," Adalah said in a letter
to the commission's chairman, Supreme Court Justice Theodor Or.
Three Adalah attorneys visited Northern Ireland last week to meet with
British and Irish jurists and politicians who were involved with the
British commissions of inquiry that investigated the Londonderry riots
of 1972. On what became known as "Bloody Sunday," Irish Catholics went
out to demonstrate against Britain's administrative detention policy,
and police and soldiers opened fire on the crowd, killing 13. A state
commission of inquiry set up at the time absolved the police of any
wrongdoing, but was immediately accused of whitewashing. In response
to public pressure, another commission was set up in 1998, which
operated under different rules.
According to Adalah representatives, most of the British jurists with
whom they spoke said that on the basis of their experience, the Or
Commission's operating procedures were a recipe for failing to uncover
the truth.
But since, as regards commissions of inquiry, Israeli law is similar
to British law, the Or Commission could easily adopt the procedures of
the later British commission instead, Adalah said. At Adalah's
request, the head of the British Bar Association has sent a letter to
Justice Or detailing the lessons Britain has drawn from the failure of
the first "Bloody Sunday" commission. Meanwhile, Major General Alik
Ron, police commander for the northern district, met again with
commission investigators yesterday to give them his version of events.
Ron began giving his testimony and documentary evidence to the
investigators last Thursday.
Ron rejects the charge that police handling of the riots in his
district - where all 13 of the deaths occurred - was flawed.
The commission itself has not yet begun to hold hearings, and it is
currently unclear when it will begin to do so.

GAMLA Note: While this report is going unnoticed by the regular media,
the issue of the so-called "Independent Palestinian Authority" group
suggested by Salim Zaanun that would renounnce Oslo and all agreements
with Israel and go back to the UN 1947 partition plan (that the Arab
rejection then led to the war of 1947-49) was indeed reported by
Israel Radio news. This "item" was then swiftly "squelched" and never
heard again ...
The Broad Impact of Arafat's Planned Move to Baghdad
****************************************************
Exclusive from DEBKAFile to Gamla: News and Views from Israel
Since the Likud leader's election victory last Tuesday, Yasser Arafat
has taken tangible steps to prepare the ground for the liquidation of
the Palestinian Authority established under the 1993 Oslo accords with
Israel and the transfer of himself and close clique to Baghdad.
He will leave behind him a newly created "Independent Palestinian
authority" that he will rule from the Iraqi capital as PLO chief. In
this capacity he will revoke all the American-brokered accords he
signed with Israel and accept only the UN's 1947 Resolution 181
partitioning Palestine, as the sole basis for talks on a settlement.
This week's most significant political news item after Israel's
election turnaround was the Palestinian leader's directive to his
minions to speed up the preparations for moving to Baghdad.
(See the original DEBKAfile disclosure of the Arafat-Saddam transfer
deal further down this page.)
The existence of this deal colors much of Sharon's strategy; it has
become a factor in the new Bush administration's decisions and a spur
to outgoing prime minister Barak's Labor and other parties to join
Sharon's national unity coalition.
The Effect on Palestinians
**************************
According to DEBKAfile's Palestinian sources, the notion of an
independent Palestinian authority seated in Gaza, as outlined in Amman
by the chairman of the Palestinian Council, Salim Zaanun, was not
conceived as a challenge to Arafat's authority; it is rather his own
brainchild.
A document for its establishment came out of a series of meetings
Arafat and Zaanun held with PA foreign minister Farouk Kaddumi, who
refuses to set foot in PA territory in protest against the peace
process with Israel.
Publication of the document is a step towards dissolving Palestinian
Authority institutions and setting up an "independent authority" in
its stead. That body would come under the aegis of PLO-Baghdad (on the
model of PLO-Tunis before 1993), freeing Arafat to turn the clock back
and revoke all Palestinian commitments signed with Israel and the US,
including the 1993 Oslo peace framework (for which Arafat with Israeli
leaders Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres received Nobel peace prizes)
and everything concluded in the For the Palestinian leadership, the
"independent authority" is additionally useful as a measure for
muzzling the clamor of protest in all Palestinian walks of life
against the spreading corruption in high places. As a sop to the
protesters, Arafat and his cronies, who are the main targets of these
protests, promise the new body will spearhead an anti-sleaze campaign.
However, Arafat's plans have run into a snag:. Kaddumi has planted a
clause in the "independent authority"'s charter, providing for it to
be headed not by a figurehead as Arafat had intended, but by an
officer with executive powers, a sort of provincial Palestinian prime
minister who will govern Gaza and the West Bank in practice. Arafat
views this provision as a challenge to his authority. He fears that if
the "independent authority" turns out to be genuinely independent, he
might find himself stranded powerless in faraway Baghdad.
More evidence of the swelling anti-Arafat protest movement surfaced on
Friday Feb. 9 when the respected veteran Palestinian statesman,
Khaider al Shafi, issued a rare statement in Gaza city demanding that
the Palestinians set up their own national unity government.

Subject: [bprlist] Geoff Metcalf interviews author, bioethics watchdog Wesley Smith

SUNDAY Q&A
The betrayal of Hippocrates
Geoff Metcalf interviews author, bioethics watchdog Wesley Smith
Editor's note: "Unbeknownst to most Americans, a small but
influential group of philosophers and health care policy makers are
working energetically to transform our nation's medical practice and
health care laws." So goes the introduction of Wesley Smith's
book, "The Culture of Death -- The assault on medical ethics in
America."
In his book, Smith argues that, at the urging of an elite group of
bioethicists, the health care industry is moving away from the "do no
harm" model established by Hippocrates and toward a stark utilitarian
system that would legitimize medical discrimination against -- and
even in some cases, the killing of -- the weakest and most
defenseless of society. WorldNetDaily staff writer and talk show host
Geoff Metcalf recently interviewed Smith about his book and the
growing bioethics movement.
Metcalf's daily streaming radio show can be heard on TalkNetDaily
weekdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern time.
By Geoff Metcalf
=A9 2001 WorldNetDaily.com
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=3D21677
Q: How is the medical community's society changing?
A: What's happening is we have this ideological movement called
the "bioethics movement," which is moving us from the Hippocratic
type of "do no harm" medicine that most people want their doctors to
pursue to one which is based on the so-called "quality of life."
Q: One of the chilling things you mention in your book is all this
talk about the "right to die." We have living wills; we don't want to
be hooked up to life support machines; we have a right to die. You
write that the newest trend is not only the "right" to die, but
a "duty to die."
A: Yes. The bioethics movement is moving us towards a duty to die.
The reason I start by talking about philosophies is because this is
what undergirds the very horrible policies that I will describe in a
moment. You and I would think, I believe, that being human is
something unique and special in the world. According to the bioethics
ideology, that isn't so, because we are mere biological life. There
is nothing special about being human. Therefore, the bioethicists --
not every bioethicist, but the primary movers and shakers in the
movement -- have determined we have to distinguish what makes human
life -- or any life -- special. And they have come up with a
conclusion, which is truly harmful and discriminatory.
It's not whether a human being matters, but whether you are
a "person." So there are some humans who are persons, and all persons
would have what you and I call human rights. But the human non-
persons do not have human rights.
Q: And who gets to make the determination of who gets to be labeled
what and when?
A: The bioethicists are coming up with the determinations themselves,
and they are teaching it at the highest universities.
Q: Who made them the sheriff?
A: That's a good question. Who decided that philosophers -- because
that's primarily who they are -- should decide what our medical
ethics are and what our health care public policies are? But if you
take a look at the president's commission on bioethics, guess who is
manning these positions? Take a look at the most elite bioethics
university positions. It is people like Peter Singer at Princeton.
Q: That guy is a wacko!
A: Peter Singer epitomizes the movement I'm talking about.
Q: For the benefit of those readers who have been spared my previous
Peter Singer rants, please explain who this pretentious, arrogant,
twisted academic is.
A: Peter Singer is an Australian, what they call a "moral
philosopher." But in his case, it is an oxymoron. He is known for two
things primarily. First, he is the creator of the modern animal
rights movement. He wrote a book back in the '70s called "Animal
Liberation," and the premise behind it is that humans and animals
have equal inherent moral worth. Therefore, we can't use animals in
animal research and things of that sort.
Q: Even the ones that taste good?
A: He doesn't like you to eat them, either. Secondly, he is also the
most well-known world proponent of legalizing infanticide.
Now, I'm not talking about abortion. Singer and his mentor, Joseph
Fletcher, might call it, in fact do call it, "post-birth abortion."
Q: If only their parents had practiced what the offspring now teach.
A: Peter Singer has said in the past that parents should have 28 days
within which to keep or kill their children. He has since expanded
that to one year.
It is based on his idea that a newborn infant is not a person.
Because a person, according to Peter Singer, is an entity who is self-
aware over time. Some other bioethicists talk about it differently.
Some believe in "moral personhood," that a person is a being that can
make moral decisions and be held morally accountable, for example, in
a crime. But what this gets down to is deciding which of us is better
than others.
Q: These bioethicists -- is there an actual, for-real academic track
for that? Or are they kind of self-anointed?
A: Mainly what it is, is philosophy. There is no licensing to become
a bioethicist. A hairdresser has to be licensed; a bioethicist
doesn't. There are about 30 university postgraduate courses where
people can get masters in bioethics, and the movement is only 30
years old.
Q: So it is not unlike being a reporter. You get to be one by calling
yourself one?
A: That's right. It's not like being a lawyer or a doctor. You are
one because you call yourself one, and I guess if people pay
attention and listen to what you have to say, you're right. And if
people don't pay attention to what you say, I guess you're wrong.
Q: I'm absolutely flummoxed that people could even waste a moment
listening to that jerk Singer.
A: He is more tactless than some of the others. However, he is not an
aberration. He epitomizes the movement. He has been the president of
the World Bioethics Association. That may not be the exact name of
the organization, but he is at the second most prestigious university
in this country, one of the most prestigious in the world, holding
one of the most prestigious bioethics chairs, with tenure.
Q: Why not just write the Singers of the world off as radical left-
wing wackos and abandon them to their screams in the wilderness? What
kind of impact can these bioethicists have on you and me?
A: They are the ones who are making policy. If you go to court in a
fight over a bioethics issue, guess who is testifying in court? The
bioethicists! When President Clinton was determining what to do about
stem-cell research, guess who made those decisions based on the
recommendations of bioethicists? The person who chairs the
president's bioethics commission is the president of Princeton
University, who is primarily responsible for bringing Peter Singer to
that university.
Q: So it's an incestuous little club?
A: You have a very elite group. They are at Harvard; they are at
Yale; they are at Georgetown University. Georgetown puts out the
Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal, which is one of the primary
bioethicists' journals in the whole world.
Q: So these guys are teaching students training to be doctors?
A: Yes. Every doctor that graduates goes through bioethics training.
And the reason I wrote "Culture of Death" is because most people
don't agree with bioethics.
Our medical ethics and our public health values don't reflect the
American people and our belief in the sanctity and equality of all
human life. As Thomas Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be
self evident, that all people are created equal." Bioethicists reject
that by definition because under bioethics, you have to prove and
earn your rights by being a "person."
If you don't want to believe me, let me read something to you from
the Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal by a bioethicist named John
Harris. This is exactly what we're talking about. Then I'd like to
lead you to what results from this kind of thinking. What it means is
that the people among us who are the most vulnerable, the weakest --
they literally get shoved out of the life raft.
Here's what Harris says about being a "person": "Many, if not all, of
the problems of health care ethics presuppose that we have a view
about what sorts of beings have something that we might think of as
ultimate moral value." Now, you and I would say all human beings have
value, right?
Q: Grudgingly, yeah, recognizing possible exceptions for Bill and
Hillary Clinton.
A: Exception noted. Well, not these guys. Here we go: "Or if this
sounds too apocalyptic, then we certainly need to identify those
sorts of individuals who have the highest moral value." Now if
Attorney General Ashcroft were to say we have to decide which people
among us have higher moral value than others, people would be up in
arms. But the bioethicists are saying that very thing, and because
they are from the elite universities and part of the intelligencia,
people seem to think it is OK.
Q: Is it because of that elitism, or is it because the mainstream
just hasn't heard these outrageous claims yet?
A: Take a look at how the New York Times and other members of the
mainstream media reported on Peter Singer. They pooh-poohed the stuff
about him saying we should be able to kill babies as being taken out
of context, and extolled him as this great new voice.
Q: It seems as if we have this small collection of arrogant,
pretentious academicians who are now dictating how medicine will be
practiced.
A: It's because we have a bad case of expert-itis in this country. We
think the only people who know anything are "experts," and people
kind of abdicate their belief that their own values can be important
and can play a part in these issues.
When you say that some of us are not persons, then what can we do
with the people who are not deemed persons? We can exploit them as if
they are a natural resource, right?
Q: That's what these clowns would say. In fact, they see non-persons
basically as fields for growing body parts that can and should be
harvested to be used wherever persons of higher moral value require
the resource.
A: And there is the point. Tom Beechum -- a major bioethicist who
wrote one of the primary textbooks in bioethics, "The Principles of
Biomedical ethics" -- says, "Because many humans lack property of
personhood or are less than full persons =85 they are thereby rendered
equal or inferior in moral standing to some non-humans. If this
conclusion is defensible, we will need to rethink our traditional
view that these unlucky humans cannot be treated in the way we
relevantly treat similar non-humans. For example, they might be
aggressively used as human research subjects and sources of organs."
You hit the nail right on the head, Geoff.
Q: Please tell the story you have on the dust jacket of your book
about Christopher and his dad.
A: Christopher Campbell was a young man about 17 years old who was in
an auto accident. He was unconscious for three weeks. He suddenly
started to spike a terrible fever, and his father, John, says to the
doctor, "Treat my son's fever. He has 105; it's going up to 106." The
doctor told the father, "What's the point? Your boy is unconscious.
His life is as good as over." And when the father continued to insist
on treatment, the doctor actually laughed in his face.
Q: How did you learn of this case?
A: This desperate father called me because I had written a previous
book, "Forced Exit," about euthanasia. He searched me out, and he
said, "Hey, what can I do?" So I gave him some tips, and guess what?
He got treatment for his son.
Q: You could have given him my phone number.
A: You would have had a different approach. I know what you believe
in. The son came out of his comma, is learning how to walk and is now
a counselor for at-risk teenagers.
Q: An at risk-teenager being defined as any poor soul who had to be
treated by Campbell's former doctor.
A: So you've got this kid now who is leading a very productive life,
recovering and working hard to recover his physicality, because he
had a pretty bad head injury. But this kid would be dead today
because the doctor didn't care enough about his life to reduce a
fever.
Q: Sadly, Chris's story is not uncommon. Tell us about the 90-year-
old who couldn't get her doctor to give her antibiotics.
A: A woman called me to say, "My mother is 92 years old. She has a
terrible infection, and the doctor won't give her antibiotics." So, I
asked the obvious question, "Why?" To which she replied, "The doctor
told me, 'Your mom's going to die of an infection anyway. It might as
well be this infection.'"
Q: Who or what gave that doctor the right or authority to make an
arbitrary and capricious determination as to which infection he might
or might not treat?
A: And that's what happens when you decide that we're not going to
say "our patients have a sanctity of life," but when we're going to
judge, as doctors or health insurance executives, based on
the "quality of life."
Q: But what about the essence of the Hippocratic Oath "Do no harm"?
If they do or don't do something that does cause harm, are they not
in violation of their sacred oath?
A: Only 13 percent of doctors today take the Hippocratic oath.
Q: What? Is that documented?
A: I found that out in the research, and I was rather stunned myself.
Thirteen percent -- and that was some years ago when that study was
done. It may be less now. They take an oath, but it is not the
Hippocratic oath.
Q: They take an oath to what? To serve and protect the HMO?
A: Basically, I guess. The bioethics movement has basically discarded
the Hippocratic oath because they think it is paternalistic.
Q: Oh really? Throw me a quote.
A: Out of the New England Journal of Medicine. This is by Sherwin
Nuland, who wrote the book, "How We Die," and is a big mucky-muck at
Yale Medical School. This is the elite of the elite, and this is what
he says about the Hippocratic oath with regard to euthanasia: "Many
opponents of these practices point to the Hippocratic oath and its
prohibition on hastening death. But those who have turned to the oath
in an effort to shape or legitimize their ethical viewpoint must
realize that the statement as embraced over approximately the last
200 years [was done so] far more as a symbol of professional cohesion
than for its content."
If Dr. Nuland wants professional cohesion, then he should join the
Rotary Club. But the Hippocratic oath is not for the doctor; it's for
the patient. It protects the patient. It requires the doctor to honor
the life of each patient as an individual, to not harm the patient.
And it is so important because we allow doctors to cut us, to poke
us, to stick us, to drug us. And if we are not going to have a doctor
who is going to be bound the by the 2,500-year wisdom of the
Hippocratic oath, we're in big trouble.
Yet at the New England Journal of Medicine, in an editorial
officially sanctioned by that journal, Sherwin Nuland said the
Hippocratic oath is just about professional cohesion -- it's just
tradition.
Q: Has anyone suggested to these academicians that perhaps it might
be just a skosh pretentious on their part to try to abrogate 2,500
years of tradition with their own personal politically correct
agenda?
A: That's what I'm trying to do with "The Culture of Death." I'm
trying to alert people that this is going on so that they can talk to
their own doctors about these issues. I'm trying to alert legislators
that this stuff is going on, so that when a bioethicist comes to
testify before Congress and says, "Well, we've studied this very
carefully and we have determined A, B, C. ..." that maybe the
congressman might know to ask, "Do you believe in the sanctity of
human life? Do you believe there is a difference between a human
person and a human non-person?"
Find out where the bioethicist is coming from. And most of these
folks will have to say, "I do think there are some humans who are not
persons."
Q: Who?
A: Dr. Peter Singer would say newborn infants.
Q: Geoff Metcalf would say Peter Singer.
A: He would say people with Alzheimer's disease. Do you know that
most people in the bioethics movement would not believe Ronald Reagan
is a person? And as you pointed out and I read from Tom Beechum, that
means we may be able to take their organs. And there is talk, by the
way, of redefining death to not be dead, but permanently unconscious.
They are talking about that very seriously in the higher levels of
organ transplant medicine.
Q: Once the pretentious, arrogant, academician has determined that
someone is a "non-person," they are products, and it is a product
that can and should be harvested. How close is this to happening, and
who gets to make the decision?
A: Some of the things I write in the book are happening, and some of
them are planned. We have to stop these plans from taking place. Let
me tell you one of the things that is the most scary and will
immediately threaten your listeners and readers. It's called Futile
Care Theory.
Under Futile Care Theory, or medical futility as it is sometimes
called, doctors are metaphorically putting signs above the intensive
care unit, similar to what you might see in a restaurant: "We reserve
the right to refuse service." They are saying -- and health insurance
executives, too -- that if you go to the hospital and you want your
life extended -- now I'm not talking about "them" forcing you to stay
alive with tubes in you; I'm talking about when you want the medical
treatment. You may want the respirator. You may want the feeding
tube. You may want the antibiotics. Under Futile Care Theory, doctors
are giving themselves, like Napoleon crowning himself emperor, the
authority to say no. That if they think the quality of your life
isn't worth the expending of the money and the resources, they can
say no and unilaterally refuse it.
Q: Who gave them the authority or the right to decide what in their
estimation is a sufficient quality of life?
A: They are giving it to themselves. They are creating hospital
protocols in which they give it to themselves.
Q: Is this mitigated by HMOs' concerns about cost containment?
A: Of course! The bioethics movement helps the HMOs in many ways. The
bioethicists consult with the HMO movement, and a lot of this has to
do with money. It also has to do with bioethicists wanting a
collectivist approach to health care. They want rigorous health-care
rationing. Futile Care Theory, by refusing care for the sickest and
most disabled among us, is the first step toward a very rigorous
health-care rationing regimen.
Q: How ubiquitous is this in policy? Or is it just incrementally
getting its nose in the tent?
A: No, this is happening all over the country now. For example, I
recite several cases that result in lawsuits in my book.
Q: Tell us about Washington State's Baby Ryan?
A: Baby Ryan was born prematurely with bad kidneys. He needed kidney
dialysis. Not surprisingly, the father was a Vietnamese immigrant and
was not perceived to be a person of power. You know, they don't do
this to the Clintons or the Bushes. You do this initially to people
who can't fight back. But this father fought back. The doctors said
to the father, "The time has come for your baby to die. We are taking
him off kidney dialysis, even though you don't want him taken off."
The father got a lawyer and got an injunction.
Q: And explain what happened to the father?
A: The doctors turned the father over to the Department of Public
Social Services because he got an injunction, saying that the father,
not the doctors, were hurting the child because he wouldn't let him
die.
Q: So what happened?
A: A different doctor came in and took over the case. He put the baby
in a different hospital, and the baby got better. In fact, the baby
did not require kidney dialysis after several weeks. The child
eventually died at age 4, having nothing to do with the kidney. In
fact, he had a very happy childhood. If it had been up to the doctors
trying to impose their values and their morality on the baby, the
baby would have died at age two weeks.
Q: How widespread are these futile care protocols?
A: Recently, in the Fall 2000 Cambridge Quarterly of Health Care
Ethics, they surveyed 26 hospitals. Twenty-four of them had futile
care protocols in place. Why are the futile care protocols there? So
that when you go to court, they can say, "Look, this is what we have
decided. This is our health protocol." Judges are often very
reluctant to gainsay what the doctors say. So what they are trying to
do is create a standard of care where they can say no if they want
to.
Q: And they also deny you the opportunity to seek out an alternative
health-care facility which does not have the protocol.
A: According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, in
Houston, all the hospitals agree to honor each other's futile care
protocol determinations. These things are going up in the Catholic
hospitals in Philadelphia.
Q: You're kidding?
A: No. If you read the Health Progress, which is the journal of the
Catholic Health Association, they print a futile care policy that has
been put into place in the Mercy systems in Philadelphia. Basically,
what it says is if a hospital ethics committee says that the care
shall not be approved in that hospital, even if you find a doctor
willing to provide the care, they can't do it. That's in a Catholic
hospital.
Q: What can we do to put the brakes on this trend?
A: First off, when you go in the hospital, you make sure that there
is somebody there that knows they may be giving you the bum's rush to
cut off care. I'm not saying that if the doctor says it is time to go
home and die a natural death, [that] the time has come to stop with
the tubes and things, that you shouldn't do that. But when they
recommend that you do that and you don't want to follow that
recommendation, you have a right to stand up against the bum's rush
you might receive, as the nurses and the chaplains and the social
workers start trying to push you into making a decision you don't
want to make. You have to have somebody willing to stand up for the
value, the inherent value of your loved one's life.
Second, it used to be that people wanted to sign these advance
directives to make sure that they didn't get hooked up to machines
against their will. That used to happen 20 years ago. That happened
when the economics of medicine were such that the intensive care unit
was a big profit center for the hospital.
Q: The old joke use to be they'd keep you on those machines until you
die or your insurance runs out.
A: Yeah, but that is no longer true. Today, the economics of medicine
says the longer you are in that intensive care unit, the more money
they lose. So they want to get you out of there, and sometimes it is
not appropriate to do that. So, what you may need today, and what I
have signed, is a Protective Medical Decisions Document. It is put
out by a group I work with called the International Anti-euthanasia
Task Force, and it documents the kind of treatment you want. For
example, it prevents them from taking away your food and water
because you are cognitively disabled, which happens in all 50 states.
Q: You have some awful stories in the book about intentionally
dehydrating patients.
A: That's right. And it is a terrible situation -- especially if you
are conscious. You can heal dehydration. It takes 14 days to die.
They take away your food and water, and it used to be based on the
decision of family to do it. Now with these futile care protocols,
it's a different story. For example, at a hospital in San Jose,
Calif., I had a futile care protocol leaked to me that said you could
not get those tube feedings if you were in a serious, cognitive
incapacitated state.
Q: Is there a website where people can get this protective medical
decision document?
A: Yes. There is a website and an 800 number. It is www.iaetf.org, or
they can call 1-800-958-5678 and ask for a Protective Medical
Decision Document. They've got them for all 50 states.
Q: If a doctor says you are going into ABC hospital, can you get a
copy of their futile care protocols before you go in there?
A: You should be able to, but not always. When I was leaked that
Lexion Brothers Hospital protocol in San Jose, I called the doctor
who had signed it, and he lied to my face about what it had meant. He
said it was about the right of a person to refuse unwanted medical
treatment, which of course I support. But that isn't what it was
about. I read him the part that proved that, and he hemmed and hawed
and stuttered but never would give a straight answer. I've had people
try to obtain futile care protocols at hospitals and some have been
refused. Some hospitals have turned them down.
Q: Time is insufficient to cover all of this, which is a good reason
for folks to buy the book, "The Culture of Death."
A: We have just scratched the surface. There is a case in California
involving Robert Wendland. Robert can roll a wheelchair down a
hospital corridor. He can write the letter "R." He can answer yes or
no questions with the aid of buttons. He was in a terrible auto
accident, and he is cognitively disabled. It is before the California
Supreme Court now whether he can be dehydrated to death, which will
take 14 days. The Court of Appeals said that he could be and said
there is no presumption for continued existence in the law of the
state of California.
Q: That is a terribly frightening court ruling.
A: Luckily, the Supreme Court took the case, so the previous ruling
is no longer legally binding, but we've got real trouble when courts
and doctors and insurance executives create a disposable class of
people.

Oklahoma Grapples With Legislating Love
Friday, February 9, 2001
By Bret Baier
http://foxnews.com/national/020901/marriages.sml
Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating had a question for economists: What is
one of the things holding the state back economically? The answer
surprised him.
"They told me: 'You've got too many divorces and you better do
something about it,'" Keating recalled.
In many Oklahoma counties, he discovered, divorces were outpacing
marriages 2-1.
"Those statistics are staggering," Keating said. "To have that much
divorce in a 'believing state.' And I'm talking about a state where
70 percent of the people go to church twice a month or more. Those
were scalding statistics."
The economists tied the divorce rate directly to higher poverty, teen
drug abuse and school dropout rates. Keating's solution? Make it
harder to get in and out of marriage.
"If we can reduce the incidents of divorce by a quarter, by a third,
by a half; if we can encourage people to know what they're doing
before they sign a marriage contract, to work through their problems
and not just throw up their hands and walk away =97 then we will have
done a lot for the children of that marriage and we will have done a
lot for society," Keating said.
Oklahoma already has invested $10 million on marriage Initiatives.
The state has set up counseling and education programs for couples,
and is working with the religious community to make pre-marital
counseling a requirement for marriage.
Keating, a Republican, is also pushing to get rid of no-fault
divorce, the current law in which spouses can simply say they don't
like each other anymore and get an easy divorce.
"With children especially involved, I think you ought to have some
tangible, concrete reasons to walk away from a marriage contract," he
said.
Oklahoma is not alone in its efforts to buttress the institution of
marriage. Florida now requires marriage-education for public high
school students. Louisiana and Arizona have both approved covenant
marriage programs, in which couples voluntarily impose limits on
their ability to divorce.
Keating's critics say government has no business trying to legislate
good marriages. Atlanta attorney Martin Huddleson says that making it
harder to divorce will only create more work for divorce attorneys
like him.
"I don't know what interest the state has in keeping a couple
together that doesn't want to be together," said Huddleson. "It may
trivialize couples' problems to suggest that going to a course before
they get married or making it more difficult to get out is going to
solve the problem of too many divorces."
But Oklahoma's governor remains determined.
"Marriages that fail prematurely and without cause impoverish the
people involved and impoverish the whole state =97 and that's bad,"
Keating said. "We're not saying divorce is never gonna happen, but
when the stats are this high for divorce, surely we can do better.
And that's what we're working on."

Pastor rapped for criticizing homosexuality
Official wants rules barring such remarks at city events
By Lola Sherman
STAFF WRITER
February 10, 2001
http://www.uniontrib.com/news/uniontrib/sat/metro/news_1mc10oside.html
OCEANSIDE -- Councilwoman Esther Sanchez wants to make sure anti-gay
and other discriminatory remarks are never again made at an event
involving city participation and would like a "zero tolerance" policy
for the comments.
City Attorney Duane Bennett said in e-mail messages to Sanchez that
there are serious issues of freedom of speech to consider. But he
promised to work with her on guidelines.
Sanchez said she was upset when a local pastor made a statement she
considers derogatory at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. awards
program Jan. 13 at El Camino High School.
In an eight-minute speech, the Rev. Barry Cook of Ambassador Family
Church called homosexuality an "immoral sexual preference" and said
it should not be linked with the issue of racism.
Cook defended his remarks yesterday, saying he was not bashing gays
or immigrants but meant to say that sometimes they wrongfully attach
their causes to the question of racism.
Rob Howard, president of the local NAACP chapter, said he is certain
Cook's remark showed no "ill intent." He said he agreed with Cook's
message: "If you want to talk about racism, talk about racism."
Sanchez said she first thought the event was city-sponsored and
worried about municipal liability. She learned later that it was
sponsored by the North County chapter of the National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People.
Still, she said, the city participated -- she and two other council
members were there -- and presented Oceanside's annual award to
resident Dorothy Foster for best reflecting King's ideals.
Replays of Cook's speech have been shown on KOCT, a cable television
station that receives city subsidies, she said.
"We really do not want to preach hate here," Sanchez said.
Cook said his talk was on community and personal solutions to racism,
and the statement in question was a small part of that speech.
The statement said: "We must see through the leech causes. I'm going
to get in trouble for this, but I'm going to say it anyway. For
instance, like noncitizens who want the same rights or the homosexual
agendas that try to equate their immoral sexual preference with the
issue of racism."
Cook said yesterday: "It was an exhortational message. I was trying
to bring solutions" to racism.
Cook said that although he does not favor homosexuality, he would
never urge violence against gays and would intervene if they were
being abused. But he believes "gay parades" with "people walking half-
dressed down the street" harm homosexuals more than his speech, he
said.
"God may hate the sin, but he loves the sinner," he said.
Cook said Sanchez has rebuffed his efforts to contact her, adding
that he is beginning to feel like a target of discrimination
himself. "Her discrimination toward me is evident," he said.
Art Thompson, executive director of the Lesbian and Gay Men's
Community Center in San Diego, said the nexus between gay rights and
those of other minorities already has been made by Coretta Scott
King, widow of the civil rights leader, who has equated the two
groups' struggles for dignity.
"I believe that that kind of a comment is completely inappropriate,"
he said of Cook's statement.
"I would be supportive of an ordinance preventing any kind of
discrimination or harassment on the basis of sexual preference,"
Thompson added."
Sanchez said she was equally aggrieved by Cook's reference
to "noncitizens." She said her mother lived in this country legally,
paying taxes and working hard, for 40 years before she obtained
American citizenship.
Cook acknowledged that his use of the term noncitizen was ill-advised
because he was referring more to illegal immigrants.

Subject: [bprlist] Ha'aretz: Arab states freeze millions of dollars in aid

Ha'aretz: Arab states freeze millions of dollars in aid to
Palestinians
By Amos Harel Ha'aretz Military Correspondent Ha'aretz 11 February
2001
Arab countries have suspended the transfer of hundreds of millions of
dollars collected in recent months for the Palestinian people for fear
the money will end up in the wrong pockets - exacerbating the already
rampant corruption in the Palestinian Authority, Israeli security
sources told Ha'aretz.
Arab states decided at an October conference in Cairo to transfer some
$1 billion to the PA to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians,
caused by Israel's clampdown on them due to the violence of the Al
Aqsa Intifada.
However, not all the money was sent, and the PA has accused the Arab
leaders of being indifferent to the Palestinians' plight. The Arab aid
to the PA was to come in the form of humanitarian consignments of food
and drugs and to be transferred via the border crossings with Israel.
It now appears that a considerable sum was, in fact, raised, but not
sent to the PA. Sources told Ha'aretz about $230 million was raised -
a large proportion in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf states. The
contributing Arab countries and the banks through which the money was
to move demanded that Chairman Yasser Arafat show complete
transparency in the funds transfers and give a detailed report on how
it was spent. This Arab demand followed past experience with money
sent to Arafat's regime.
A great deal of money sent to the PA, especially from Europe, the
United States and Japan, after the establishment of the PA, did not
reach its intended destination. Through the collection of arbitration
fees, monopolies and numerous other schemes, a large proportion of
that money ended up in the bank accounts of PA officials, including
Arafat, himself, and his economic advisor, Muhammad Rashid.
Because the PA has evaded the current demands made by the Arab donors,
the money - most of which is being held in the Islamic Bank in the
Persian Gulf - has been frozen. Israel doubts the PA will accede to
the Arab donor demands, because it wants control over the flow of
money.

The Jewish Agency for Israel
Jerusalem - February 11, 2001 Shvat 18, 5761
Jerusalem: "Immigration (Aliyah) to Israel and Jewish Zionist
Education will be top priorities of my Government" announced Prime
Minister Elect Ariel Sharon in a telephone conversation with the
Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency, Alex Grass
and Chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, Sallai Meridor. Sharon
said that his goal is to bring more Jews to Israel and to strengthen
the knowledge of every Jew in Israel and the world about the history
of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. In this way, every Jew
will be more connected to Israel and we will be stronger.
Grass and Meridor telephoned Sharon on Thursday to congratulate him on
his election victory and to wish him success in his efforts to form a
broad government of national unity.
Sharon said that in light of the difficult situation and anticipated
difficulties in the future, he felt that there is no alternative but
to form a broad based government. "Unity is crucial for security and
peace and aliyah is the condition for the continued existence of the
Jewish people. If we want Jews to remain Jews, it is important that
they make aliyah" concluded Sharon in his conversation with the heads
of the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Billion-Dollar Saddam Backs Arafat
NewsMax.com Wires
Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/2/9/200733.shtml
WASHINGTON =96 Iraqi President Saddam Hussein is now the main financial
supporter and strategic ally of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as
both men seek to embroil the wider Arab world in a no-holds-barred
jihad, or holy war, with Israel.
In the four and half months since the second Palestinian Intifada, or
uprising, started on Sept. 28, Saddam has taken advantage of Iraq's
recovering oil exporting wealth to funnel almost a billion dollars to
the Palestinians in Gaza and on the West Bank.
Well-placed Middle East intelligence sources have told Western
reporters, including UPI, that the total value of the aid already
amounts to $980 million in just over one-third of a year.
The aid has been openly proclaimed to be in the form of food and
relief support and in generous compensation payments to the families
of the approximately 350 Palestinians killed so far by Israeli forces
since the Intifada began.
Saddam has been reported as giving the family of each of the dead a
cash payment of $12,000 each. During Iraq's 1980-1988 war with
neighboring Iran, he prevented popular hardship and resentment from
taking any serious form against him by following a similar generous
compensation policy to the families of the estimated 100,000 Iraqis
killed. (Iranian dead were four to five times as numerous).
Middle East intelligence sources told UPI that much of the aid that
Saddam has already sent to the West Bank had gone to reactivate the
Arab Liberation Front, the traditional Iraq-backed Palestinian
guerrilla movement.
According to some of the sources, Saddam had already succeeded in
sending to the Palestinians on the West Bank a limited supply of
rocket-propelled grenades, anti-tank missile launchers and even
Russian-made anti-aircraft guns.
These reports could not be independently verified. However, the
Israeli Foreign Ministry has claimed in a report this year that the
Palestinians have succeeded in amassing significant numbers of anti-
tank weapons, and other equipment that could be used to inflict
significant casualties on Israeli tanks and helicopters in heavy
urban fighting.
Such Israeli reports are usually ignored as propaganda by the Western
media, believing they are attempts to externalize the causes of
Palestinian opposition. But some U.S. experts say this one appears
more credible. They note that by December last year, Israel had
changed its military tactics in dealing with Intifada riots and
dramatically cut back on using U.S.-made and supplied Apache
helicopters for riot control.
This, the analysts said, appeared to be because the Israelis believed
the Palestinians had indeed acquired the capability to destroy
Apaches =96 and probably tanks on the ground =96 with new weapons they
had received.

Is Israel Becoming a 'Christian' Nation?
http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a01/2/10/115330
The fallout from the recent election in Israel - that swept into
office hardliner Ariel Sharon in a landslide win - is not yet settled.
But the last election demonstrated just how remarkably changed the
political and demographic landscape has become in the past decade.
Israel's Jewish electorate had for three decades been balanced by
Jews who had immigrated from Middle Eastern countries (Sephardim)
against those who were early settlers from Europe, referred to as the
Ashkenazi.
The Ashkenazi vote had tilted in favor of liberal Zionism with a
dovish view on peace. The Sephardics became the base of the hawkish
Likud party.
But the almost even divide between the two groups was shattered with
the election of Sharon, whose base grew from the strong support among
the Sephardic, to include Russian immigrants who arrived in Israel
during the past decade.
The Times of London reports that in the closing days of the Israeli
national elections, Sharon made a concerted effort to woo these
Russian voters, many of whom are not Jewish.
In an election rally in Ashkelon, the Times noted that, among the
Russians who turned out, "half the crowd present were Christian and
most of the rest were secular Jews."
Russians now comprise almost 20 percent of the Israeli electorate,
and yet the Times says about half are Christian. Still, others are
secular and don't practice Judaism.
Some Russian Christians profess to being "half Jewish" - a line that
is used as a euphemism for not being Jewish at all.
Many Russians falsely claimed Jewish descent so they could emigrate
from Russia after the Soviet Union collapsed.
The Israeli government knew of the problem but turned a blind eye,
seeking to increase its population - even if it wasn't Jewish -
against a growing Arab demographic.
Interestingly, the Times reports that Russian immigrants, although
Christians, have strongly aligned themselves with the Jewish state
and have identified themselves with nationalist symbols.
Their new alignment with Sharon and Likud - two-thirds of Russian
immigrants voted for Sharon - indicate that they are firmly committed
to the state.

PRINCE CHARLES CALLS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF OTHER FAITHS
http://www.ewtn.com/vnews/getstory.asp?number=12063
LONDON, Feb. 8, 01 (CWNews.com) - The Prince of Wales has called for
more tolerance and understanding of faiths other than Christianity.
Speaking to a Muslim gathering today, Prince Charles said cultural
diversity was crucial to unity in Britain.
He said, "What I always try to say is about the importance of our
different faith communities in this country. I think we are
enormously fortunate to have such a rich and diverse mix. I feel we
have a great deal of unity through that diversity."
The Prince, who by law must accept the tenets of Anglican
Christianity when he becomes king, had earlier listened to a reading
from the Qu'ran.

Want To Have The Devil Scared Out Of You?
Hundreds Turn To Exorcist For Spiritual Healing
The ancient ritual of exorcism is once again flourishing in the age
of the Internet.
http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/kgtv/20010206/lo/307440_1.html
The Chicago Archdiocese recently appointed an official exorcist for
the first time in 160 years, and exorcism ministries outside of the
Catholic Church have blossomed from a handful 20 years ago to more
than 600 today.
Bob Larson, a non-denominational Christian minister, travels the
country performing exorcisms on large groups of believers.
Larson, who has been battling evil spirits for three years, told
10News that lately he's noticed an explosion of interest.
Larson travels to a different city almost every weekend where
hundreds of people seeking relief reportedly attend his free rallies.
According to Larson's Web site, he first informs his audiences about
the many ways demons possess human beings. Larson then calls the evil
spirits forth to face God's judgment.
"When that happens, look out! It's like being in the midst of an
invisible war with spiritual grenades exploding everywhere in the
audience," Larson's site says.
"Exorcism is just part of the process of deliverance from evil. Inner
healing from the bitterness and anger resulting from past emotional
injury is just as important."

PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS GROWING IN THE UNITED STATES
by Thomas Horn
http://www.worthynews.com/christian-persecution.htm
More Christians died for their faith in the twentieth century than at
any other time in history, says Christian Solidarity International.
Global reports indicate that over 150,000 Christians were martyred
last year, chiefly outside of the United States. However, statistics
are changing: persecution of Christians is on the increase in the
United States. What's happening to bring about this change?
According to some experts a pattern is emerging reminiscent of Jewish
persecution in post war Germany. "Isolation of, and discrimination
against Christians is growing almost geometrically" says Don McAlvany
in The Midnight Herald. "This is the way it started in Germany
against the Jews. As they became more isolated and marginalized by
the Nazi propaganda machine, as popular hatred and prejudice against
the Jews increased among the German people, wholesale persecution
followed. Could this be where the growing anti-Christian consensus
in America is taking us?"

Subject: [bprlist] Will Gore Pave Way For Antichrist In 2004?

Will Gore Pave Way For Antichrist In 2004?
New Age Experts Believe Election 2004 Could Be Beginning Of The End
http://www.raidersnewsupdate.com/gorenew.htm
Let me state flatly that I do not believe Al Gore is the Antichrist.
But millions of conservatives around the world, religious and non-
religious, are concerned with the United Nations earth-centered one-
world environmentalism supported by such as he. Al Gore has suggested
that his resume makes him better prepared for the White House than
Bill Clinton was in 1992. Apocalyptically speaking, he may be right.
Gore's resume, especially as outlined in his book Earth in the
Balance, contributes to an ominous, if not prophetic, global vision
of the near future.
Many people believe that, before long, a man of superior
intelligence, wit, charm, and diplomacy, will emerge on the world
scene as a savior. He will seemingly possess a transcendent wisdom
that enables him to solve problems and offer solutions to many of
today's most perplexing issues. His popularity will be widespread,
and his fans will include young and old, religious and non-religious,
male and female. Talk show hosts will interview his colleagues, news
anchors will cover his movements, scholars will applaud his uncanny
ability at resolving what has escaped the rest of us, and the poor
will bow down at his table. He will, in every human way, appeal to
the best idea of society. But his profound comprehension and
irresistible presence will be the result of an invisible network of
thousands of years of collective knowledge. He will, like the
pharaohs of Egypt, represent the embodiment of a very old and super-
intelligent spirit. Just as Jesus Christ was the "seed of the woman"
(Gen. 3:15), he will be the "seed of the serpent." Although his
arrival in the form of a man was foretold by numerous Scriptures, the
broad masses of the world will not recognize him as paganism's
ultimate incarnation, the "beast" of Revelation 13:1.
It's been assumed for centuries that a prerequisite for such a man
(Antichrist) will be a "revived" world order, an umbrella under which
national boundaries dissolve, and ethnic groups, ideologies,
religions, and economics from around the world, orchestrate a single
and dominant sovereignty. Such a system will supposedly be free of
religious and political extremes, and membership will tolerate the
philosophical and cultural differences of its constituents. Except
for minor nonconformities, war, intolerance, and hunger will be a
thing of the past.
At the head of the utopian administration, a single personality will
surface. He will appear to be a man of distinguished character, but
will ultimately become "a king of fierce countenance" (Dan. 8:23).
With imperious decree he will facilitate a one-world government,
universal religion, and global socialism. Those who refuse his New
World Order will inevitably be imprisoned or destroyed, until at last
he exalts himself "above all that is called God, or that is
worshiped, so that he, as God, sitteth in the temple of God, showing
himself that he is God" (2 Thess. 2:4).
For many years the idea of an Orwellian society, where a one-world
government oversees the smallest details of our lives and where human
liberties are abandoned, was considered anathema. The concept that
rugged individualism could be sacrificed for an anesthetized
universal harmony was repudiated by America's greatest minds. Then,
in the 1970's, things began to change. Following a call by Nelson
Rockefeller for the creation of a "New World Order," presidential
candidate Jimmy Carter campaigned, saying, "We must replace balance
of power politics with world order politics." Evidently he struck a
chord with world leaders.

Paperback - 352 pages
August 1, 2000

ISBN: 0310218039

From the back cover:
What if Jesus had not come until today? Who would follow him? Who
would kill him?
A fiery car crash hurls TV journalist Conrad Davis into another world
exactly like ours except for one detail =97 Jesus Christ did not come
2,000 years ago, but today.
Starting with angels heralding a birth in the back of a motel laundry
room, the skeptical Davis watches the gospel unfold in today's
society as a Messiah in T-shirt and blue jeans heals, raises people
from the dead, and speaks such startling truths that he captures the
heart of a nation.
But the young man's actions and his criticism of the religious
establishment earn him enemies as ruthless as they are powerful.
An intense and thought-provoking novel, Eli strips away religious
tradition to present Jesus fresh and unvarnished. With gripping
immediacy, Bill Myers weaves a story whose truth will refresh your
faith.
---------------------------
Preface
Bill Myers
http://www.Billmyers.com
This is fiction, nothing more. It's merely an attempt to examine
some issues and to get us thinking about others. It is certainly no
substitute for the real thing. Those familiar with my fiction know
that I believe storytelling's greatest strength lies in its ability
to stir up our thoughts. By putting the gospel in a contemporary
setting, I've moved Christ out of my comfort zone and put him back in
my face where he can test me, challenge me, and encourage me. By
stripping away the historical and cultural trappings that I hide
behind to insulate myself from his truths, I allow him to become more
of the radical life-changer he was the first time I encountered him.
Unfortunately, the attempt also brings with it some failures. First,
by removing the rich Jewish heritage of the gospel, I've deprived the
story of much of its depth. There were times, for instance, when I
wanted to elaborate on the hundreds of Old Testament prophecies and
symbolism that speak of Christ, but this novel was not the forum for
that.
Still, that failure and others only underline the fact that this is
merely an appetizer. For those who haven't yet enjoyed the feast,
don't waste time here =97 go to the real banquet. Read the book that
most of antiquity and today's scholars still insist is the greatest
piece of writing in human history. If it's been an while since you
cracked open a Bible, or if you've never really explored it, start
off with the gospel of John. In one sense, it's the easiest, in
another, the most profound.
And since I'm in a confessional mood, there's another shortcoming you
need to be aware of as you read this novel. To accurately portray a
world in which Christ has not yet come would be to create a society
so dark and ugly that it's doubtful any of us would recognize it, let
alone relate to it. To do so would have again defeated my purposes.
So, I didn't. If you're interested in the impact Jesus Christ has had
upon our society, Kennedy and Newcombe's book, What If Jesus Had
Never Been Born, gives interesting insights on how different our
society would be today if Jesus had not come.
A final note. Scripture makes it clear that the Christ would come as
a man born of woman only once. It states that his second coming will
not be like his first. The first was the meek servant who washed our
feet and died for our failures. According to Scripture, the second
time he comes it will be as a conquering King. In fact, Jesus
himself warned that if someone born into our world today claimed to
be the Christ (even with accompanying miracles) he would be a
counterfeit, the antichrist prophesied long ago. According to Jesus
Christ, when he appears the next time it will be from the heavens,
accompanied by the glory of God.
-------------------
Philologos Review: What a fun read! Although you know how it all
turns out, pretend for a moment that you don't. Pretend you've never
heard of Jesus until today. Pretend you wake up, turn on the TV and
there is a news reporter interviewing someone who claims to be "I
AM." Are you interested? Or do you change the channel? Are you
waiting for the promised Messiah as foretold in your Bible? (Just the
Old Testament, the New Testament hasn't been written yet). Would you
recognize him if he came? Would you follow him? Or would you
ridicule and make fun of him? Would he be the brunt of your jokes
come Monday morning around the water cooler? Just for a moment,
pretend that you don't know how it all turns out...

Book Description
This book is not a call for the violent overthrow of the government,
nor is it a call to take up arms, nor is it a call to political
activism in and of itself. It is a call to something far more
extreme, a call to live out the gospel with all its radical claims, a
call for people of God to impact this generation with the prophetic
message of repentance, a call to spark the most sweeping
counterculture movement in our nations history, a call to take back
the moral ground that has been stolen from under out feet, a call to
follow Jesus by life or by death. In that sense, it is a call to
start a revolution--now!
About the Author
Dr. Michael L. Brown is the founder and president of the Brownsville
Revival School of Ministry. He met the Lord in 1971 as a 16-year-old
heroin- shooting, LSD-using, Jewish rock drummer. Since then, he has
preached around the world, written more than a dozen books, lectured
at leading seminaries and debated rabbis on college campuses. He is
committed to helping raise up an army of holy radicals who will spark
a spiritual and moral revolution in the land.
-------------------------
Philologos Review
I haven't stopped thinking about this book and what it means to live
all out for Jesus since I got it. There is a battle going on around
us and so few Christians are actively engaged in the cause. "The
gospel is the ultimate revolutionary message. It says we are governed
by a higher authority, ruled by another power, at home in a different
world." (p90) Brown's words will challenge you to be a radical for
Christ and, if need be, to die for the cause. Do not misunderstand.
This book is not asking you to go out and get yourself killed.
Instead, it is challenging you to live your life for Christ in a way
that your life or death would bring honor to Him. The book is not
about dying. It is about living and joining a cause so worthwhile
that you would willingly lay down your life for it. As a Christian,
our lives do not belong to us anyway. They belong to God. "We live
to do His will, period. If His will can be accomplished most fully
through our living, so be it. If His will can be accomplished most
fully through our dying, so be it. That should be our normal
expression of faith." (p248)
You will note that the author is founder of the Brownsville Revival
School of Ministry. His association with the Brownsville revival may
turn some people away from his work. Michael Brown, as he challenges
Christians to live a life for Christ, is not trying to turn people on
to the Brownsville revival movement with this book (he does that in
another book titled "Let No One Deceive You"). He is advocating
something far more radical. Judge "Revolution!: The Call to Holy
War" on its own merits and see if you are living all out for Christ. -

I don't know if you received my mail this morning about Matthew. Gohip
decided to delete all mail I received over the weekend and it probably
also failed to send you my email update on Matthew.
Matthew will be operated on at 1430 Monday Adelaide time. Our
paediatritian was woken at 3 am Sunday morning with the words 'I've
got to go in' in his head. Matthew will have his large intestine
opened up and some of it removed for testing. The surgeon, John
Freeman, will also remove and examine his small intestine. Matthew
will probably receive a temporary colostomy so that he can feed,
provided his small intestine is functioning. We think it is because
occasionally he does a poo just to confound them all.
This is 'crunch-time for Matthew'. If this operation and subsequent
tests fails to provide an answer 'the outlook is grim' as Simon James
has written in his case-notes.
Simon said during the week that it is a miracle that Matthew has
recovered from being so near to death when I brought him into
emergency two Thursday's ago. Deidre and I think that Simon is
becoming more acceptable of the concept of our Creator and Redeeming
God.
Our Pastor annointed Matthew with oil on Sunday afternoon, and lay his
hands on him according to the NT's teachings. He prayed for God's care
of Matthew during the operation and for those who will be carrying out
the work.
We know that your prayers and those of many others are working. We
know that God woke Simon and told him to get on with it.
Thank you and God Bless you all for your prayers.
David

Subject: URGENT: Attacks against Gilo, Rachels Tomb and Tunnel Road south out of Jerusalem; one Israeli killed
Date sent: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 00:15:56 +0200
Shalom,
It's been a while since we filed a news report like this but with a
new government and renewed violence, I believe the occasion MANDATES
it.
Shalom Shalom
ben Yosef
GILO, Jerusalem -- Tanzim miliita opened fire tonight against
residences on Rehov Ha-Anafah (Street) and a 35-year-old man was
killed while traveling on the Tunnel Road just to the south of this
Jerusalem suburb.
The Tanzim were firing from the Palestinian village of Beit Jala,
which has "officially" been quiet for the last several weeks, although
sporadic gunfire, which we and our neighbors hear regularly, has been
censored from local media for most of this time until after the
Israeli election for Prime Minister.
IDF forces responded with heavy caliber tracer fire which struck
targets in Beit Jala, which is across a gully from Gilo, The gully is
the southern border between Beit Jala and Jerusalem. Rehov Ha-anafah
is one of the most exposed areas, although in recent months, massive
concrete walls and other measures have been constructed and erected to
protect residents in exposed apartments and apartments that could not
be protected have been abandonned.
The gunfire from Beit Jala and Bethlehem tonight has been targeting
Jerusalem's southern perimeter including the Tomb of Rachel, which
also was the scene of attacks on Saturday night, the city of Gilo,
which has a population of about 35,000 and Jewish settlement towns
near the Tunnel Road leading south from Gilo.
The attacks on Gilo tonight came in two volleys, one at about 8 p.m.
and the second at about 9:45 p.m. Each lasted no more than 10 minutes
and were met with a massive IDF response. The blasts from the heavy
caliber IDF tracers could be heard throughout the city of Jerusalem.
My wife and I were dining with friends near the Jerusalem City Center
when the first volley occurred and rushed home in a taxi to our
10-year-old who was a little anxious about the gunfire which was
occurring some 400 meters to the east of our apartment on the other
side of Rehov Margalit.
About 9:45 p.m., as Augustus McRae was taking aim at the bad guys on
the Israeli premier of the series "Lonesone Dove," the Tanzim opened
fire a second time with automatic gunfire, which was met immediately
with more IDF tracer fire.
Reports about the shooting death of the Israeli resident traveling on
the Tunnel Road south of Jerusalem (Gilo) also were sketchy tonight,
although it was known that he was crossing the exposed bridge between
the two tunnels when he came under attack. The area is the frequent
target of stonings in the daylight as well as earlier fatal attacks.
The Gush Etzion resident was evacuated under Palestinian gunfire to
Hadassah-Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, where he was pronounced dead
by doctors.
Another exchange of gunfire between Israeli and Palestinian forces was
reported adjacent to the Bethlehem-area District Coordinating Office
near Har Gilo.
Shalom Shalom & we know you will be praying for our community here in
Gilo, ben Yosef & family
