Likud Chairman Ariel Sharon and other Likud party members visited the
Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem this morning. Hundreds of
young Muslims demonstrated against the visit and attempted to bypass the
security personnel in an effort to reach the MKs.
The demonstrations continued in the East Jerusalem. Stones were thrown
at a bus crossing Salah-a-din street, its window was broken and one
passenger was lightly wounded.
Dozens of Palestinians were wounded and 25 border policemen were lightly
injured in the riots between the police and several hundreds of
Palestinian who protested against the visit, the police said.
An extensive police force was present, as well as Jerusalem District
Commander Yair Yitzhaki. Yitzhaki met Wednesday with the head of the
Waqf in order to prepare for Sharon's visit on the Temple Mount. The
Waqf leader expressed bitterness at the visit, which he said could lead
to violence. Yitzhaki requested Waqf leaders to show restraint and not
allow the potential rioters to incite violence.
The riots began after the visitors left the Temple Mount. The MKs said
in a press conference held after the visit that three members of the
Knesset, Abdulmalik Dehamshe (United Arab List), Ahmed Tibi (Arab
Movement for Renewal) and Talab A-Sana (United Arab list) were present
and as Sharon and the Likud party members left the scene they chanted
"Murderers out!" and "We will redeem the Temple Mount with blood and
fire."
After Sharon left the mount, fierce clashes broke out between the police
and the hundreds of Palestinian protesters. Police fired rubber bullets
and sprayed tear gas. Faisal Husseini, the Palestinian Authority's
Jerusalem Affairs Minister, was lightly injured during the riots.
An extensive police force was present and police officers focused mainly
on the area adjacent to the Mugrabim Gate on the Temple Mount. Police
are also enforcing strict security checks near other gates on the Temple
Mount and in various locations in the Old City
The heads of the Islamic Movement in Israel also opposed Sharon's visit
and asked that Prime Minister Ehud Barak prevent it. They said that they
would hold the government responsible for whatever happened.
The Palestinian Legislative Council also warned of the grave
consequences that could be caused by the visit. The council released a
statement demanding that the Israeli government prevent the visit, which
it claimed could endanger the peace process. In the press conference
Sharon attacked the Arab MKs who demonstrated against the visit. He said
they were inciting against Israel. "I'm sorry about the injured, but it
is the right of Jews in Israel to visit the Temple Mount," he added.

NEW SCIENTIST WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
No 53, 30 September 2000
You may think you're alone. But we know you have company. At this very
moment 80 different species inhabit your mouth, about 100 million
bacteria dwell in just one square centimetre of your armpit, and
approximately 10 billion microbes reside in a similarly sized area of
your bowel. And that's not counting the fungi which could be in your
hair, the mould which may be on your skin and the follicle mites that
are crawling all over you. This week's Last Word takes a look at the
different species living on or in the human body and discovers a most
impressive line-up...
http://www.newscientist.com/nl/0930/bodily.html
DEADLY TOUCH
Some of the inhabitants of the human body go quietly about their
business, keeping a respectably low profile. Superbugs, however, don't.
Researchers fear that antibiotics which seep out of the body in sweat
could be turning skin into a perfect breeding ground for resistant
bacteria. Niels Hoiby at the University of Copenhagen found that
bacteria on his skin developed resistance only three days after he
completed a week-long course of a "leaky" antibiotic. According to
Hoiby, simple physical contact would then be enough to pass on these
superbugs and cause chaos in any hospital.
http://www.newscientist.com/nl/0930/deadly.html
AT GUT LEVEL
Still on superbugs, and still in Copenhagen, Marianne Blom and Thomas
Sorensen have found what may be the "missing link" in the transmission
of antibiotic-resistant bacteria from infected meat to the people who
eat it. Blom and Sorensen discovered that volunteers who ate bacteria
which comes from chicken and is resistant to the drug vancomycin,
developed a colony of the same bacteria in their guts a couple of days
afterwards. The researchers believe this increases the risk that genes
coding for vancomycin resistance can transfer to more dangerous bacteria
and could "ultimately lead to treatment failure".

THE WORLD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Needless to say, Feedback can contribute generously to a week which is
big on the "yuck factor". Today's column inspects the gunk on your
computer keyboard and unearths another cast of interesting characters.
http://www.newscientist.com/nl/0930/30.html
HANDY MAN
"Looking down a microscope underneath the skin, it's just like looking
at a coral reef, it's so full of colour and activity." In 1970 Earl Owen
successfully sewed back a child's finger. Two years ago in an operation
which captured the public imagination he transplanted a human hand from
a cadaver to a living patient. Owen has revolutionised microsurgery. We
talk to the man who describes himself as the "luckiest surgeon that ever
lived", and whose pioneering procedure could pave the way for
transplanting whole limbs, faces, and even penises.

MINES THAT MOVE AROUND
Take one away, and the others will "know" immediately. They'll notice
the gap and will jump around until they form a regular pattern again.
These robots are capable of leaping more than 10 metres in the air, have
ultrasonic sensors to detect where their neighbours are, and can
communicate with each other by radio. According to Rush Robinett at
Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, one minute he
was catching grasshoppers to go trout fishing, the next moment he felt
inspired to design an "intelligent" minefield with hopping mines which
can reorganise themselves in seconds.
http://www.newscientist.com/nl/0930/scorched.html
PLANNING A LAST MINUTE HOLIDAY IN THE SUN?...
.. don't forget to pack the DNA. At the Ohio State University in
Columbus, Bern Kohler took one DNA nucleoside, three RNA nucleosides,
some ultra-pure water and bombarded the mixture with UV laser pulses
every 0.15 picoseconds. The result could have every sunscreen
manufacturer pricking up their ears.

WHATEVER YOU WANT
Need a new pair of glasses? A spare carburettor? A replacement part for
a washing machine? All it takes is a click of a mouse, a flick of a
switch and you can have almost anything you want, made to order.
Engineers are on the point of creating a magic box that can bring the
stuff of your imagination into the material world. As Stephen Danforth
at Rutgers University in New Jersey says, "I don't think there's any
doubt in anyone's mind that these 3D-printing techniques are going to
revolutionise manufacturing."
http://www.newscientist.com/nl/0930/whatever.html
AND FINALLY...
At the Wolong Breeding Center in Sichuan province, China, they are
always on the lookout for a new way to perk up a panda's love life. Last
month, we heard how plastic balls, stuffed burlap sacks and other toys
could lift a flagging libido. This week we learn that allowing the
animals to explore each other's empty enclosures and exchange scents
before a "liaison" is another secret to sexual success...

I agree with Charlie's response below, "point me to a scripture", one that
allows you to infer/deduce or one that plainly states the meaning. A cloud
of mystery and conjecture burns neurons better consumed elsewhere,
productively, in the scriptures (in my considered opinion)...Thanks

Biblical Mathematics
Dr. Edward Vallowe
Dr. Edward Vallowe, The author of numerous prophetical books, has taken the
code of Gimaytria and applies it to the scriptures. This informative and
very enlightening book will help you to grow in your knowledge of not only
the Bible, but also the meanings behind some of the numbers in the occult.
This book also proves that the King James version is the one, true
translation. You will refer back over and over.

Finally, Bible numerics made straightforward!, February 7, 1999
Reviewer: theocodes@juno.com or Dr. Luther G. Williams from New Orleans,
Louisiana
Dr. Vallowe has suceeded in making numerics accessible to and meaningful for
Bible students. This book not only presents God's use of key numbers in the
Bible in layman's terms, but also provides a basis for further
investigations. Although one may disagree with Dr. Vallowe's conclusions
about the meaning of certain numbers, his methods derive solidly from the
Biblical context in which the numbers are used. Through this timely book,
God releases a long-awaited blessing to His people so that in these last
days His Word may be understood in greater fullness and detail. Move over,
E. W. Bullinger; Ed Vallowe has written the seminal introduction to the
subject of Biblical numerics.

Theomatics II : God's Best Kept Secret Revealed
by Del Washburn

Review
Theomatics.....truth in numbers, January 13, 2000
Reviewer: MARK LAWRENCE (see more about me) from Woodlands, Texas
If you are straddling the fence in your religion, and are in need of
something more than just sheer blind faith, then Theomatics may be just what
you have been looking for.
Theomatics scientifically proves that there is more to the Bible than just
the literal meanings of the English translated words. This discovery sheds
light on many confusing aspects of the Bible, and shows how hugely symbolic
both the old and new testaments really are - and how they relate to each
other.
Haling from a technical background myself, I have always appreciated and
respected the precision of numbers, perhaps much more than the average
individual. Numbers truely are the universal language, and are mankinds'
"key" to unlocking the physical secrets of this world. Why not see if that
"key" also fits the Bible? It does.
Mankind is compelled to control and understand his environment - it is his
nature. History is full of individuals that have made incredible scientific
discoveries that, at first, were shunned by the masses(much like Theomatics
is today) - but later were seen for the great breakthroughs that they
were/are.
I have been studying Theomatics for over a year now, and am just as excited
about it as ever. I read it just like a technical journal - a few pages at a
time, then break away so that I can sort-out what has just been presented.
It's a confusing religious world out there today, with everyone having their
own translation of what the Bible is saying - or even if the Bible is for
real. This confusion is compounded by all of the "other" Bible code claims,
such as ELS, Bible numerics, Omega code, etc. Not to mention the claim of
number patterns found in the Koran.
A person today, perhaps more than ever, needs a truth that he/she can
believe in. I have studied, and am continuing to study all of these other
phenomena as well - but none of them has even come close to what is present
in the Theomatic discovery.
Find out for yourself what the truth is....it's nothing to be afraid of.

In U.S., FDA approved RU-486 abortion pill & softens its restrictions
Weekend News Today
Lead: faith
Source: UPI
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- On Thursday, the U.S. FDA went ahead and approved the
early abortion drug, mifepristone-also known as RU-486 -- and even
softened restrictions against its use. Gloria Feldt, president of
Planned Parenthood Federation of America told UPI, "this is a historic
moment for American women". The FDA approved RU-486, abortion pill, for
termination of pregnancy through the first 49 days. Mifepristone, the
abortion drug, has been used in Europe for early termination of
pregnancy for more than a decade, but its use in the United States has
been held up by economic and political forces. In Britain, Sweden and
other European countries, 620,000 women have now used the drug to
terminate their pregnancies. Danco Laboratories, a New York-based
pharmaceutical company, has been granted a distribution license by the
Population Council, a not-for-profit international organization that
originally sponsored the drug for FDA approval. Reaction from
anti-abortion forces was led by U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts, Jr. (R.-Okla.),
who attacked President Clinton for the approval of the drug.
Bill Clinton got the legacy he was looking for," Watts said Thursday.
"On his third day in office, he issued an executive order to get the
ball rolling on the approval of the abortion pill. Nearly eight years
later, President Clinton got what he wanted, and the losers in his
victory are women and children all across the country. This is a sad day
for America." "The population control folks and the abortion lobby will
hail this decision as a victory for women, but it is quite the
opposite," he continued. "Do-it-yourself abortion has no place in a
civilized society. Inducing a miscarriage still means a mother has to
deliver a baby. These are the morbid details the other side doesn't want
you to hear," Watts said. Wendy Wright, dir. of commun. for Concerned
Women of America, based in Washington, said, "RU-486 is dangerous to
women. Unlike medicine, which heals, it has no purpose other than to
kill a human life. No person or group who claims to care about women
would subject women to RU-486, a drug that has only one purpose-to kill
an unborn child." The New York-based Population Council has promised the
FDA that it will conduct postmarketing studies on the drug. The
availability of mifepristone, the abortion drug, will allow women who
don't want to be pregnant an alternative abotion by pills instead of
surgical abortion.
Hurricanes Isaac & Joyce in the Atlantic
Weekend News Today
Lead: faith
Source: UPI
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- As hurricanes usually fluctuate in their strength,
Hurricane Joyce weakened slightly Thursday, as she continued west with
winds of 85 mph. If she keeps her current pace, the Caribbeans wouldn't
see Hurricane Joyce until early next week. She's about 1,000 miles east
of the Windward Islands, traveling WSW at 14 mph. Joyce is expected to
turn more due west by Friday, and more fluctuations in intensity are
expected. Meanwhile, powerful Hurricane Isaac continued north in the
Atlantic with dangerous 120 mph winds. Isaac had reached major-hurricane
strength Monday, then weakened, but now is stronger than ever with
Category 3 winds of 120 mph. A little more strengthening is in the
forecast, but it is expected to swing well east of Bermuda and remain a
threat to shipping lanes only. It was last about 1,325 miles ESE of
Bermuda, moving NW at 17 mph. A gradual turn toward the NNW is predicted
in the next 24 hours.

Fleet of satellites to monitor disasters & civil strife!
Weekend News Today
Lead: faith
Source: Space.com
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- Soon, an English satellite developer plans to send up
a fleet of five pyramid-shaped satellites by early 2002. These
satellites will especially be devoted to monitoring natural and
human-made disasters from orbit. Surrey Small Satellite Technology
(SSTL) hopes to use this new network of satellites to facilitate
management and relief efforts in crisis situations ranging from civil
strife and industrial accidents to droughts, earthquakes, fires and
landslides. Unlike multipurpose Earth-observing satellites that have
already been monitoring mishaps, SSTL's satellite fleet will be solely
dedicated to disaster observation. With photo-cameras, the Disaster
Monitoring Constellation (DMC) will be able to monitor any point on
Earth at least once daily for use by emergency-aid agencies to assess
the damage and to plan rescue efforts. Along with the satellites, SSTL
promised to offer users access to ground-control stations and a
centralized mission planning system. The company expects all
participants the share the resources of the system in cases of
U.N.-declared disasters. The disaster- monitoring spacecraft will
revisit the same area over the planet at least once every 24 hours. Each
satellite's camera will have enough resolution to conduct, to map,
monitor, and assess damage. This information can then be used to monitor
and possibly plan refugee movement, camp establishment and large-scale
aid activities. Finally, the computers on the satellites could be
reprogrammed in flight as more advanced software becomes available. As
more customers express interest in this commercial enterprise satellite
system, a follow-on constellation will be developed and launched, after
the original network has been deployed,
Clinton awaits right moment to submit comprehensive Mideast peace plan
Weekend News Today
Lead: Kelly
Source: Middle East Newsline
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- President Bill Clinton is timing the release of a
second draft of a U.S. peace document, that includes new proposals meant
to bridge Israeli and Palestinian positions for a treaty. Clinton's
aides are sounding out senior Israeli and Palestinian negotiators in
Washington over the next three days as the president considers when to
launch what could be his last effort to complete a peace treaty. The
bridging proposals will mark the first time the administration has
drafted a comprehensive draft of Israeli-Palestinian peace.
Israeli and PA officials said that during the United Nations millennium
celebrations earlier this month Clinton sounded out Barak and PA
Chairman Yasser Arafat on their positions regarding all aspects of a
peace treaty in an effort to determine the extent of their agreement.
From those meetings, White House and State Department officials drafted
principles for a comprehensive peace treaty. The first draft was
completed and submitted on Sept. 19. Clinton, they said, called for
revisions. Three days later, the president was given a second draft.
Clinton's scenario, the officials said, began with consultations on
Tuesday in Arlington, Va. with senior Israeli and PA negotiators.
If the meetings succeed, the U.S. president will present his peace plan
to Arafat and Barak. At that point, Clinton will schedule another summit
that will negotiate an agreement based on the U.S. document. Palestinian
Authority International Cooperation Minister Nabil Shaath compares the
U.S. document to a large package. Shaath said Israel and Palestinians
would discuss each issue separately and if agreement is achieved, place
that aside and proceed to unresolved matters. "Jerusalem would be a
subpackage within that package," Shaath said. "If we make subpackage
agreements, we will pocket and keep them. You sign the agreement when
all the packages are ready."
Arab League blasts Israel's Sharon over visit
Weekend News Today

Source: Reuters
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- The visit of right-wing Israeli opposition leader
Ariel Sharon to a Muslim holy site earlier on Thursday threatens to
completely destroy Middle East peace efforts, the Cairo-based Arab
League has said. Israeli police earlier fired rubber-coated metal
bullets to disperse clashes with stone-throwing Palestinians at
Jerusalem's most hotly contested holy site during a one-hour visit by
Sharon and some of his Likud party's parliamentary faction.
"The Arab League warns of the continuous deliberate Israeli violations
at the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and using the Holy Sanctuary in
Israeli party political struggles for electoral gain," a statement
received by Reuters said. It described the visit by Sharon, reviled by
many Arabs for his role in Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon, as
"defiling" the site of the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosques.

Danish vote expected to reject euro, European Central Bank has world
support to boost euro again
Weekend News Today

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- Denmark edged toward rejecting the euro in a
referendum Thursday that could further dent the fledgling single
currency and have far- reaching implications for European integration.
As momentum for a "no" vote appeared to pick up, a leading European
monetary official warned financial markets that the Group of Seven big
powers would step in to support the euro if confidence in the currency
was hit. "With a "no" from the Danes, there would certainly be a loss of
confidence in the euro," German Bundesbank governing council member
Klaus-Dieter Kuehbacher said in Frankfurt.
"The European Central Bank would not stand accused of acting only once,"
he said, referring to concerted central bank action last week. "Further
interventions could therefore be expected." Early exit polls among some
8,500 voters, and published by broadcaster TV2 with hours of voting

"yes" camp. Most pre-vote polls gave a slim lead to opponents of closer
European ties who do not want to give up the Danish crown currency.
Economic and military decrees source of tension for Turkey's PM,
president

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said on Thursday
that tensions between his government and the new president were
threatening economic stability. Ecevit, who was speaking unexpectedly
after a meeting with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, made it clear that he
felt that Turkey's IMF-backed anti-inflation programme was in danger. At
stake is a crucial financial reform package backed by $4 billion in IMF
standby loans and aimed at reducing inflation from 50 percent annually
in August to single digits by the end of 2002.
Ecevit has twice clashed with Sezer, a former constitutional court head
who was elected president with the premier's backing earlier this year.
At issue was Sezer's refusal to approve government decrees -- the first
on an anti- Islamist crackdown and the second on the privatisation of
state banks. The rejection of the first decree, on purging suspected
Islamists from government service, upset the powerful military. This
will now go before parliament and could spur divisive political debate.
This week's second rejection, however, had a particular significance for
the markets since bank privatisations are a key condition attached to $2
billion in World Bank aid.

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- Economics Minister Werner Mueller will lead a
delegation of German business people and bankers to Iran from October
1-3, his ministry announced on Thursday. In Tehran, Mueller may meet
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, who visited Berlin in July amid
warming ties, as well as other Iranian officials. Germany is Iran's
largest Western trading partner. In July Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder
announced Germany would quintuple its export credit cover for
investments in Iran to one billion marks. Bilateral trade fell to 3.1
billion marks last year, the lowest figure since 1979. German direct
investment in Iran totalled just 90 million marks.
Russians chase Chechens south across Georgia-Chechnya border
Weekend News Today

Source: Stratfor Report-0015 GMT, 000927
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- For nearly a year, one of Russia´s key strategic
goals for Chechnya has been to seal off its border and stem the efforts
of Chechen rebels to import supplies and reinforcements. But in that
same time, Russia has been pulling out equipment and troops from bases
in Georgia, giving rise to the question: How can Russia meet its
objectives for containing the insurgents in Chechnya as Russian troops
redeploy? The answer is simple. Not only can Russia meet its objectives
in Chechnya - it probably already has.
In accordance with a November 1999 agreement, Russia began pulling
tanks, armored personnel carriers and other vehicles out of its bases in
Gudauta and Vaziani in early August. By next July all Russian equipment
and troops will have left Georgia. Moscow, has, however, secured
Georgia´s permission to maintain access to the airfield at Vaziani until
the Russian military withdrawal is complete, according to the Georgian
minister of foreign affairs. But Russian troops leaving Georgia won´t
damage the effort on the Georgia-Chechnya border because those troops
were not protecting the border. Moreover, recent events prove the
Georgian border is no longer the main rebel supply route, illustrating
that the troop withdrawal is not at odds with Moscow´s Chechnya mission.
Also, the Russian troops in Chechnya were typically interior ministry
officers or paratroopers deployed from Russia to guard the Chechen side
of the border. They did not receive reinforcements from Russian troops
inside Georgia. That´s why the closure of the bases will not seriously
affect control of Georgia´s boundary or Russia´s operations on the
ground in Chechnya. And, a continued hold over the airspace means Russia
will still have reconnaissance capability and, if need be, could rapidly
deploy or hold an emergency landing just south of Chechnya. Russia could
easily have sealed the Georgian border, and the rebels may have found a
new route for supply through Russian territory, making the withdrawal of
Russian troops from Georgia a non-issue with regards to the Chechen
situation.
Germany seeks confident new role on world stage and permanent

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- A new, more confident Germany has emerged onto the
world stage since its reunification of 10 years ago, a Germany aspiring
to a political and military role commensurate with its economic weight.
None are more aware of this than those in power in Germany today. "We
all sense that Germany's role is beginning to change," Foreign Minister
Joschka Fischer noted, addressing German diplomatic representatives in
Berlin on September 4.
This change was best illustrated, Fischer went on, by German
participation in the Kosovo war, a "decisive and historic turning point"
by which the country's "increased responsibility became concrete
policy". Addressing the United Nations on September 6, Chancellor
Gerhard Schroeder explained why Germany, among others, should have a
permanent seat on the Security Council. "It cannot help the prospects
for ensuring world peace if politically and economically weighty states
are not associated with the decision- making process of the Security
Council," he said.
California firm sees profit in Egypt's scheme for greening desert

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- A farm business from arid southern California is set
to plunge into a bold water diversion scheme designed to green 600,000
hectares (1.5 million acres) of remote Egyptian desert. Cadiz Inc. will
be part of an Egyptian government-sponsored project to alter the destiny
of a desert nation crowded into the Nile valley's narrow confines while
boosting crop yields for export to Europe, the Middle East and even
Asia. "You've got an excellent example here of what a public-private
partnership should be," Cadiz chief executive Keith Brackpool said on a
visit to the site Friday with cabinet ministers, bankers, farmers and
foreign diplomats. Cadiz, working with private Saudi partner Prince
Al-Walid bin Talal to develop 40,000 hectares (100,000 acres) in the
Toskha depression, is a boost for a government accused by the opposition
press of wasting funds on a white elephant.

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine met Vladimir
Putin on Thursday to discuss the Russian leader's upcoming Paris summit
and forge a common position on Yugoslavia's contested presidential
polls. Putin is due to make his debut visit to the French capital from
October 30 to November 1, a trip Paris hopes will warm relations cooled
by sharp French criticism of Russia's year-long crackdown in breakaway
Chechnya.
"France is a traditional partner and one of the most important from
several points of view, irreplaceable for Russia," Putin said at the
start of his talks with the French minister, Interfax reported. The
Kremlin chief said he hoped his upcoming visit would herald the start of
a series of contacts and "help develop relations between Russia and
France, between Russia and the European Union." Vedrine said he was in
Moscow both as the chief diplomat of France and as the envoy of the
European Union, whose rotating presidency is currently held by France.

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- Montenegro recognizes the victory of the opposition
candidate Vojislav Kostunica in the disputed Yugoslav presidential vote,
the republic's Prime Minister Filip Vujanovic said Thursday. "The
presidential vote is over for us and Kostunica is the winner,"
Vujanovic, top ally of reformist Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic,
told reporters. According to official results presented by the federal
election commission early Thursday, Kostunica beat Milosevic in the
first round polling but failed to gain the absolute majority needed to
avoid a run-off.
But Kostunica and the Democratic Opposition of Serbia (DOS) which has
backed his candidacy, said they would not stand in the second round and
threatened to stage civil disobediance and a general strike. Despite the
boycott, the government of Montenegro, which has a population of only
650,000, offered cautious support to Kostunica.

Israel will have two capitals if peace agreement is signed: Barak

Thu Sep 28,2000 -- If a peace agreement is signed with the Palestinians,
it will include Jerusalem and Al-Quds as two capitals, Prime Minister
Ehud Barak said for the first time yesterday in a Rosh Hashana interview
with The Jerusalem Post. One government official said this is the first
time Barak has spoken publicly of Jerusalem and Al-Quds as separate
entities, and of Al- Quds as capital of a future Palestinian entity. "I
do not know if there will be an agreement," Barak said. "But if there is
an agreement it will include an end to the conflict, permanent borders
for Israel recognized by the world, 80 percent of the settlers in Judea
and Samaria under Israeli sovereignty in settlement blocks, security
arrangements, principally along the eastern border, and Jerusalem bigger
than ever since King David - with a solid Jewish majority for
generations, united under our sovereignty, and recognized by the world
as the capital of Israel."
Barak continued: "Now I don't want to enter details. There will also be
a Palestinian capital that will be called Al-Quds. It will also include
what we agree upon, but the final result will be Jerusalem that will
include Givat Ze'ev, Ma'aleh Adumim, Gush Etzion - big in territory,
including all, almost all, the Jewish neighborhoods, and as a result it
will make Israel stronger." Pressed on the Al-Quds suggestion, Barak
said: "It will be Jerusalem and Al-Quds, one next to the other, as two
capitals. But with Jerusalem with dozens of embassies from all over the
world, and Jerusalem under the guidelines that we established. It was no
coincidence that I said that no Jewish prime minister will sign on a
paper, document, or agreement that transfers the sovereignty of the
Temple Mount to the Palestinians or to an Islamic body."

Sharon's Temple Mount visit erupts in violence, 34 injured

Source: Jerusalem Post
Thu Sep 28,2000 -- In violence that marked the struggle for sovereignty
over the Temple Mount, 30 Israeli policemen and four Palestinians were
lightly injured today, immediately following the visit of Opposition
leader Ariel Sharon to the mount. Sharon arrived at the mount shortly
after 7.30 a.m. accompanied by members of his faction. Hundreds of
police were out in force at the Western Wall plaza to ensure their
safety. The MKs went through the Moghrabi Gate into the Temple Mount
compound and visited Solomon's Stables beneath the mosques and an area
near the al-Aksa mosque. Despite tension, this part of the visit passed
without violence although Israeli Arab MKs who were at the site called
Sharon a "murderer" and Likud Mks accused them of inviting violence.
It was only after the Likud faction left the site that the violent
disturbances bagen. Scores of Palestinian youths shouting "Allah hu
achbar" tried to approach the MKs but were prevented from reaching them
by police. They then started throwing stones and other objects at police
who served as a buffer between the two sides. At the height of the
violence, police fired three rubber bullets at the Palestinians. "The
Temple Mount is under Israeli sovereignty and it is the right of every
Jewish person to visit the site," said Sharon afterwards. "There cannot
exist a situation in which Jews cannot visit the holiest site in the
world for Judaism." Rejecting Palestinian claims that the visit was a
provocation, Likud whip Reuven Rivlin said: "If being here is a
provocation, then the very presence of the Jews in the land of Israel is
a provocation."

PRAYING FOR A JEWISH JERUSALEM
One of America's largest groups of observant Jews is challenging every Jew
to stop the plan to give away the Temple Mount to Yassir Arafat or the
United Nations. The National Council of Young Israel
<webmaster@youngisrael.org> is asking every rabbi to read a statement
from Malcolm Hoenlein, the executive vice chairman of the Conference of
Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Hoenlein criticizes the
giveaway: "On Rosh Hashana we will read 'Akeidas Yitzchak,' the account of
Abraham's test of faith, when he was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac. That
took place on this same holy site, the Temple Mount. Our essence as a
people is embedded in the bedrock of this mountain. For decades we have
worked to keep the UN out of Israeli issues. Can anyone now seriously
consider giving the Security Council oversight of our most sacred site?"
The head of the PLO's Israel desk, Sufyan Abu Zaideh, warns that unless
Jerusalem is divided "fifty-fifty... there will be a war here." But former Foreign
Minister David Levy told Arutz Sheva today that most Israelis won't
approve Barak's extreme concessions on Jerusalem.

House Warns Arafat On Statehood
As the President Clinton attempted on Wednesday to revive stalled
Mideast peace talks, the House voted overwhelmingly to end all but
humanitarian aid if Palestinian leaders unilaterally declare statehood.
"The Palestinian threat to declare an independent state unilaterally
constitutes a fundamental violation of the underlying principles of the
Oslo Accords and the Middle East peace process," said House
International Relations Committee Chairman Benjamin Gilman, R-N.Y. "That
threat continues unabated." The 385-27 vote came as senior Israeli and
Palestinian negotiators returned to Washington in a last ditch attempt

important that we seek to support the parties, and do not take steps

DNA Records To Be Held On Nationwide Database
A national genetic database, containing the DNA and medical history of
around half a million British adults, is to be established to help UK
scientists investigate links between genes and inherited illness.
Ministers want the database to be put in the hands of an independent
body to ensure that the police, insurance companies and private firms
cannot access the sensitive material. They are discussing plans for a
public trust to administer and protect the library of British genes. The
database, which is likely to be set up by the Government's Medical
Research Council, would take voluntary donations of individuals' genetic
sequences from blood tests or cheek swabs. Ministers want the
information to be restricted to scientists working to decipher the human
genetic code to discover links between gene sequences and certain
illnesses. But they fear it could be used by the police to link people
to the scenes of crimes or sold to insurance companies who could use it
to assess whether to grant policies. Ministers believe that if the
information in the genetic bank is abused, threatening the
confidentiality of people's DNA, the public would be dissuaded
from giving samples. independent

Is Russia's leading religious figure a former KBG agent? Patriarch
Alexy II, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, was recruited into the
Soviet Union's notorious spy agency in 1958, when he was 29 years
old, The Irish Times reported. The story is based on information from
the Keston Institute (see link #1 below), a United Kingdom-based
religious rights agency with an office in Russia.
..Keston reviewed KGB documents left in the former Soviet state of
Estonia when the agency folded. The documents show that the KGB
recruited a young priest it believed had a bright future in the
church, according to the Times. The priest is referred to only by his
code name, "Drozdov," but personal details about him match Alexy and
no other priest in the Estonian diocese, the paper reported.
International trips made by "Drozdov" over the years match the
travels of Alexy, according to the Times.
..Alexy was given an award for his work with the agency, the Times
reported. The archived documents describe Alexy as "punctilious,
energetic, and convivial." He also demonstrated a willing attitude
and provided information about priests under investigation and the
workings of the church. He was given the Certificate of Honor in 1988
on his 30th anniversary, according to the report.
..The charges are unsubstantiated, Orthodox officials told the
Times. "There are no data indicating that Patriarch Alexy II was an
associate of the special services, and no classified documents bear
his signature," church spokesman Vsevolod Chaplin said. The charges,
which have been made in the past, are from people who want to see
Christianity and the Orthodox Church weakened, he said.
..Alexy was not alone, according to Keston News Service. "Alexy's
collaboration was nothing exceptional. Almost all senior leaders of
all officially recognized religious faiths - including the Catholics,
Baptists, Adventists, Muslims, and Buddhists -were recruited as KGB
agents," Keston reported. It was virtually impossible to advance in
church hierarchies without affiliation with the government, according
to the report.
[Moderator: Golitysn talks about this in his book "The Perestroika
Deception" (see
http://philologos.org/guide/books/golitsyn.anatoliy.1.htm) --
"...greater apparent official tolerance of religion in the Soviet
Union is accompanied by a secret drive to increase Party and KGB
penetration of the Catholic and other churches and to use agents
therein for political and strategic purposes inside and outside the
Soviet Union. As part of the programme to destroy religion from
within, the KGB, in the late 1950s, started sending dedicated young
Communists to ecclesiastical academies and seminaries to train them
as future church leaders. These young Communists joined the Church,
not at the call of their consciences to serve God, but at the call of
the Communist Party in order to serve that Party and to implement its
general line in the struggle against religion." The author continues
in saying that when these new "church leaders" have achieved their
goals, that a mass withdrawal of these agents will occur to disrupt
and destroy the churches. Golitsyn warns that "never in its history
since Nero has Christianity faced such a threat of possible
destruction." (pp. 116-117)]
