Dear John:

I regret I am unable to answer your questions about then number 12 and
those scriptures you cited. It is probable the number 12, along with
some other numbers, have significance but I know of nothing, in the
scriptures, that indicate we should consider them of importance, nor
seek to understand them. All the conclusions I have seen, relative to
their significance and their application, appear to be based on one or
more assumptions. I have not, therefore, attempted to solve the mystery
of their meaning. Sorry about that! If you can point me to a scripture
or scriptures that indicate we should attempt to understand their
significance I would be grateful but, in the meantime, I consider them
to be one of the 'mysteries' WE DO NOT NEED TO UNDERSTAND but will
understand in the future. Praise the Lord!

Speaking of numbers, I have been trying to understand the mystery of
the 'trinity' and their relationship to God, the 1 in 3 and the 3 in 1.
It came to me this morning it could considered similar to a business
practice of this world. A big company, with lots of power, decides to
create a new line of business, a line that is foreign to their 'base',
one which must be kept completely separate from the founding company.
The usual procedure, I think, is for the CEO of the big company to set
up a subsidiary company, under a different name; appoint a CEO for it
and two, or more, other top executives, from his 'head office staff';
turn the development and operation over to them; provide (create) the
right 'environment' then, provide the funds (power) to start the
business and to operate it. Later, after the 'raw materials' of the
company have been completely exhausted, the one who started the company
will shut it down and those employees who have proven their worth, will
be 'absorbed' into into a new business, prepared for them by the
founding company, and the 'top dogs' will become part of the 'head
office' again. This is a possible picture, I think, of God, whose
'founding company' is in eternity, and the trinity, whom He has
appointed - along with the heavens, the earth and all of His creations.
Praise the Lord!

By the way, John, I happen to have a cousin living in New Havelock,
NZ. Its a small world and getting smaller. Praise the Lord!

God Bless you. Best regards Charlie Baker

Critics Say Environmental Protection Agency Needs Independent Oversight

                  By Brian Hansen

WASHINGTON, DC, September 26, 2000 (ENS) - A powerful and
independent federal ombudsman is desperately needed to keep tabs on the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has routinely tried to
"hide the truth from the very people it is charged to protect," a U.S. Senator
told a Congressional panel today.

Wayne Allard, a Republican from Colorado, made the remarks in support of
his bill that would reauthorize the office of the EPA's National Hazardous
Waste Ombudsman. The ombudsman's office, which was established by
Congress to investigate complaints leveled against the EPA, has not had
statutory authority since 1989.

Sept. 26, 2000

*Armoured Infections. It's long been suspected that some viruses wore

impressive "chain mail" coats to over run the citadel of the cell. Now

researchers have actually observed protein in this amazing arrangement for

the first time. The stability and strength of this viral armour seem

perfect

for future nanotechnology applications. (Beyond 2000 9/26/00)

*The future of treatment for life-threatening conditions, including cancer

and heart disease, could come from a new breed of microchips. Biological

microelectromechanical devices, known as bioMEMS, could be implanted into

the body to deliver doses of drugs or carry new cells to damaged tissue.

The

possibilities the field of biomedical nanotechnology present were outlined

by Robert Michler, chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Ohio State

University,

to the Biomedical Nanotechnology World 2000 conference. (BBC 9/27/00)

*ENTANGLED PHOTONS COULD PROMISE LIGHTNING-SPEED COMPUTERS. The light

manufacturers use to produce today's transistors has a wavelength of 248

nanometers. It becomes increasingly difficult to use light with shorter

wavelengths to produce transistors with smaller dimensions. In fact,

according to a central principle of optics called the "Rayleigh criterion,"

248- nanometer light can't create features smaller than 124 nanometers.

However, this new research, still in its theoretical stage, could provide a

bypass of the Rayleigh criterion. The research team proposes that

entanglement would allow the use of existing sources of laser light of 248

nanometers to produce computer chips with dimensions of a fourth of the

wavelength (62 nanometers) or smaller compared to today's limits (124

nanometers).

*Can we simulate life's machinery? Projects enlist Internet users to work

on

life-and-death protein puzzles.

For decades, researchers have been puzzling over the mysteries of protein

folding - the "machinery of life" that translates DNA's instructions into

action. Solving the mysteries could lead to medical breakthroughs, but

progress has come slowly. Now programmers are putting regular Internet

users

on the case, thanks to distributed computing. (interesting.....w/ gifs and

heart tissue alive after a heart attack, by a process called therapeutic

angiogenesis. (Ohio State Research release 9/26/00)

*Artificial Muscles Release Medicine From Tiny Implants Scientists have

come one step closer to creating "smart" medical implants with the

development of tiny artificial muscles at Ohio State University.

Researchers here have designed implantable capsules perforated with

microscopic holes to dispense medication, with each hole guarded by a tiny

ring of artificial muscle made of soft, gel-like plastic.

*NEW THERAPIES COMBINE CHIP TECHNOLOGY, MATERIAL SCIENCE AND BIOENGINEERING

The last decade has seen the dramatic development of biomedical

technologies

ranging from biohybrid grafts - implants that contain living and nonliving

materials - to sophisticated drug delivery systems that target therapy to a

precise location in the body, protect the device from attack by the body's

defenses, and release the drug in response to a signal. Hybrid implant

materials and devices of this sort are called BioMEMs, where MEMs is an

acronym for micro-electromechanical systems. (UIC news 9/21/00)

Israel one of the most crowded countries

                  By Moti Bassok
                  Ha'aretz Economics Correspondent

Population density in Israel is among the highest in the world, having
reached an average of 278 people per square kilometer in 1999. The growth
in population density is recorded with other data in Israel's "Statistical
Yearbook," released yesterday by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

Population density differs significantly in various regions of the country, the
Yearbook shows. The Tel Aviv area is the most crowded, with a density
figure of 6,700 people per square kilometer. Population is the sparsest in the
South, where the figure is just 16 people per square kilometer.

Only a few countries in the world have higher density levels than Israel; in
Europe, just Holland and Belgium are more crowded, showing respective
density figures of 372 people per square kilometer and 332 people per square
kilometer.

Jerusalem has the second highest density figures in Israel, with 1,130 people
per square kilometer. The figure in Haifa is 931 people per square kilometer,
and in the North, 234 per square kilometer.

In Israel's urban-based population, more than 91 percent of the population
lives in towns and cities where there are more than 2,000 residents.

The Yearbook measures growth rates among cities with populations of more
than 100,000. The fastest growing city in this category is Ashdod, at 6.2
percent, followed by Rishon Letzion at 4.6 percent.

With 646,000 people, Jeru-salem is Israel's largest city.

During 1999, 29,300 Jewish couples were married in Israel, as compared to
17,200 Muslim ones. On the other hand, 10,195 couples were divorced last
year, and the majority - 9,110 - were Jewish.

Last year, 89,286 infants were born to Jewish mothers, and 34,514 to
Muslim mothers.

From: bpr-list@philologos.org

An increase in the popularity of Satanism has prompted Italian
bishops to appeal for many exorcism requests to be turned down,
describing many "possessions" as being "exaggerated". Cardinal
Ennio Antonelli, of the Italian Bishops Conference, said priests
were being overwhelmed by the ever increasing number of believers
demanding to be freed from the devil. "The requests (for exorcisms)
are
exaggerated. It is recommended that priests apply extreme caution and
treat each case with discretion before carrying out an exorcism,"
Cardinal Antonelli said.

Asteroid Chip May Have Caused
Bright Flash in California Sky
Wednesday, September 27, 2000

LOS ANGELES — A green and orange flash people saw streak from the
high desert to the Pacific Coast across the night sky was most likely
a meteor, according to an astronomer.

The flash was seen in the clear Southern California sky about 8 p.m.
Tuesday. It was visible more than 100 miles away, as far east as the
Arizona line and as far south as the U.S.-Mexico border.

"From the description I got, it sounds like a very bright meteor or
fireball as we call it," said Patrick So, an astronomer with the
Griffith Park Observatory in the hills just north of downtown. He
said it was mostly likely a fragment of an asteroid that broke up
long ago.

U.S. FACES BIG BILL FOR INTERNATIONAL WEB TRAFFIC The
International Telecommunication Union is asking U.S. telecom carriers to
pay up -- and Washington, with support from Canada, the U.K. and a few
other countries, is arguing that the current Internet traffic system doesn't
need fixing. At issue is the cost of providing Internet access both from the
U.S. to other countries, and from those countries to U.S.-based Web sites.
Currently, both outgoing and incoming costs are borne entirely by foreign
telecom carriers, through a system that was set up when 95% of the Web
sites were based in the U.S. and almost all international traffic was
generated by foreign users seeking access to those sites. But the ITU is
now warning that with the growth of cross-border Internet traffic and e-
commerce, poorer countries could soon find themselves forking over up to $5
billion a year to pay for Internet traffic generated by users in the U.S. North
America now hosts about two-thirds of Internet sites, with 25% located in
Europe and about 10% in the Asia-Pacific region. The U.S. has argued that
the issue of cost-sharing is best left alone by international regulators,
especially because there is as yet no agreed-upon method of measuring
traffic for payment allocation purposes. (Financial Times 27 Sep 2000)

CHICAGO RESEARCH GROUP TO EXAMINE CARNIVORE The IIT
Research Institute, an independent, nonprofit R&D organization associated
with the Illinois Institute of Technology, has been chosen to analyze whether
the FBI's "Carnivore" e-mail surveillance system provides adequate
safeguards for U.S. citizens' privacy.
The government will continue to use the system while it's under review, a
decision criticized by the Electronic Privacy Information Center, which has
protested the system. Eleven private and academic organizations bid on the
$175,000 project, but a number of them objected to Justice Department
insistence on security checks of evaluation panel members and its stated
intention to exclude any critics of government surveillance from the panel.
They also criticized Justice's insistence on the right to edit the report. At
least one group, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, withdrew from
the bidding over those objections. (AP/MSNBC 26 Sep 2000)

PALESTINIANS WOULD RATHER WAIT IT OUT

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has made it clear to Yasser Arafat that it
is not worth his while to sign an agreement with Israel at this juncture. Arutz-
7 correspondent Haggai Huberman reports, based on Israeli government
sources, that Mubarak told Arafat at their last meeting, "Clinton is a dead
horse - you have no reason to rush to sign an agreement. Better wait for the
next President."

Huberman explained, "First of all, the U.S. has long ceased regarding Egypt
as an impartial mediator... The Palestinians have also begun thinking that
they should wait until after the elections, and this is because Arafat realizes
that he cannot unilaterally declare a state - the leaders of many countries
told him so. He therefore knows that he needs an agreement with Israel, but
he also wants the extra goodie that comes along with it - the huge sums of
aid that Clinton promised. The Palestinians feel that a new Congress and a
new Administration - even if Gore wins - will not feel obligated to fulfill the
promises made by Clinton."

Three days of talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians begin today in
Washington. U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says that she does
not have any new ideas to present. State Department elements are said not
to be very optimistic about the talks.

SHARON AND PARTY TO TEMPLE MOUNT

Likud leader Ariel Sharon now plans to bring all 17 of his party's MKs to the
Temple Mount on his visit there tomorrow. Party whip Ruby Rivlin, On the
other hand, has backtracked somewhat from his strong stand of yesterday,
and now says that the faction will "take the opinion of the police into account
before deciding whether to go up to the Mount." The Moslem Waqf Director
on the Mount informed the police today that Sharon's visit is "undesirable"
and "is liable to cause problems and clashes." Waqf and Fatah leaders
called today upon all Palestinians to come to the Temple Mount tomorrow.

Subject: [BPR] - Pope says jubilee is occasion to rediscover Mary
From: bpr-list@philologos.org("Moza")
Date: Wed, 27 Sep 2000 18:22:21 -0400

  25-Sep-2000 -- ZENIT News Agency

POPE SAYS JUBILEE IS OCCASION TO REDISCOVER MARY

Conclusion of International Congress Dedicated to Mother of Christ

VATICAN CITY, (ZENIT.org).- On a day marking two Marian events, John
Paul said, "The Jubilee of the Son is also the Jubilee of the Mother."

The events were the end of an international congress dedicated to Mary,
and the Jubilee of Marian Shrines around the world.

During a Mass in St. Peterīs Square, attended by 50,000 faithful, the
Holy Father spoke about the love that Christ's followers, and not just
Catholics, should have for Mary.

John Paul II cited a passage from St. Mark's Gospel in which Christ
embraces a child and gives him as an example to his disciples. The Holy
Father said it is a lesson given by the one who, although above all, did
not hesitate to become "the least of all."

In this way, the Pope explained, one can understand better Mary's
greatness, whose primacy is "rooted in humility," and whose privileged
relation with the Holy Spirit "did not free her from the hardships of
the human condition during her earthly life."

"Mary totally lived the daily reality of so many families of her time,"
he said. "She experienced poverty, pain, exile, misunderstanding. Her
spiritual greatness does not 'distance' her from us: She traveled our
road and has been in solidarity with us in the 'pilgrimage of faith.'"

The celebration of 2000 years of Christianity, therefore, is also
dedicated to the Virgin, the Holy Father said. Hence, he added, the
Jubilee is not just an opportunity to live with a stronger love for
Christ, but also to experience "renewed Marian devotion."

The Bishop of Rome specified the fundamental principles that must guide
this devotion for the Virgin that, at times, has been tainted by
superstitions. Above all, he said, true devotion "must be well founded
on Scripture and Tradition," and that the believer must find in the
liturgy "a sure orientation for the most spontaneous manifestations of
popular religiosity."

The Pope also said that devotion must not be based on words but "must be
expressed by an effort to imitate Holy Mary on the road of personal
improvement."

In order to overcome "every form of superstition and vain credulity,"
the Pope advised the faithful to accept "in the right way, in harmony
with ecclesial discernment, the extraordinary manifestations that the
Blessed Virgin often grants for the good of the people of God."

The Holy Father called for healthy prudence given the numerous Marian
apparitions that are claimed today around the world. Yet, he added, Mary
continues to communicate her message of love to people, at times in a
surprising manner.

Finally, if love for the Virgin is real, "it must always be able to rise
to the source of the greatness of Mary, in an incessant 'Magnificat' of
praise to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit."

At the end of the Mass, before reciting the Angelus with the pilgrims,
the Pope mentioned the places of Marian devotion that celebrated their
Jubilee Sunday.

Along with Lourdes (France), Fatima (Portugal), Guadalupe (Mexico),
Lujan (Argentina), Jasna Gora (Poland), he mentioned the lesser-known
shrines, such as Lavang (Vietnam), Walsingham (England), Knock
(Ireland), the Immaculate Conception (Washington, D.C.), Our Lady of the
Good Voyage (Philippines), Velankanni (India), Ostra Brama (Lithuania),
Merced (Ecuador), Montserrat (Puerto Rico) and Our Lady of the Angels
(Costa Rica).

John Paul II also announced that the Diocese of Le Puy-en-Velay in
France will host the next international congress dedicated to the Mother
of Christ.
