Real life catches up with Star Trek
HSV Technologies Inc., of San Diego, California is developing a non-lethal
weapon that uses ultraviolet laser beams to harmlessly immobilize people
and animals at a distance. The Phaser-like device uses two beams of UV
radiation to ionize paths in the air along which electrical current is
conducted to and from the target. In effect, the beams create wires
through the atmosphere wherever they are pointed.
The current within these beams is a close replication of the
neuro-electric impulses that control skeletal muscles. It is imperceptible
to the target person because it differs from his own neural impulses only
in that its repetition rate is sufficiently rapid to tetanize muscle
tissue. (Tetanization is the stimulation of muscle fibers at a frequency
which merges their individual contractions into a single sustained
contraction.)
No retinal damage can occur because the cornea absorbs all ultraviolet
radiation at the wavelengths used. Moreover, the beams are too weak to
produce photokeratitis (corneal inflammation) unless they are directed at
the eyes for several minutes. In addition, the current they transmit is
insufficient to affect the smooth muscles such as the heart and diaphragm.
See Ocular Safety of the Tetanizing Beam Weapon
Our electrical beam weapon has a far longer potential range than its
nearest competitor, the wire-based Taser ® .
Successful proof-of-principle tests have been performed at the University
of California at San Diego, and further refinements using novel laser
designs are forthcoming.
Although the smallest laser now available for this application is the size
of a carry-on suitcase, a hand-held version should become feasible with
only modest advances in laser technology.
Also under development is an engine-disabling variation for use against
the electronic ignitions of automobiles. The engine-disabling version
should be able to operate with off-the-shelf lasers because it would be
carried aboard police patrol cars.

BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER: HERE COMES INTERNET2
Internet2's latest advance is the Next Generation Internet
(NGI)Initiative's ultra-fast network, vBNS (very high-performance
backbone network service), which now links nearly 200 campuses.
The network handles powerful new applications, allowing
astronomers, for example, to remotely manipulate telescopes at an
observatory in Hawaii from anywhere in the world. Work is
proceeding on the Abilene network and on Internet service quality
so collaborative medical procedures, for example, will not be
disrupted by e-mail traffic. Meanwhile, the University of
Illinois at Chicago's Electronic Visualization Laboratory is
working on technology that allows users to walk around and
inspect 3D images. The next Internet will link these virtual
spaces, called "caves," allowing designers in Germany to look at
a car model located in Detroit. Students, too, are expected to
benefit from Internet2 technology as universities such as
Northwestern allow them to send and receive video from their dorm
rooms. (Interactive Week, August 28 2000)
E-COMMERCE IN THE CARDS?
Technological difficulties and privacy concerns are slowing smart
card implementation in the United States. To spur smart card
development, the industry is working on a card with cryptographic
authentication for Web-based transactions based on public key
infrastructure (PKI) systems. In May the General Services
Administration (GSA) contracted five vendor groups to focus on
developing an interoperability standard. Closed environment
smart cards are doing well on campuses despite the
interoperability problem. The GSA and Citibank have issued
closed-campus multiple application cards to employees at the
Willow Wood facility in Fairfax, VA. Students at the University
of Arizona use CyberMark CatCards to vote online in student
elections, enter buildings, and pay campus-related fees, among
other functions. Progress has occurred at the state and local
government levels with electronic benefits delivery initiatives
such as the Western Governors' Association Health Passport
Program. (Government Technology, August 10)

Subject: [BPR] - Public Notice published September 6, 2000
From: bpr-list@philologos.org("Moza")
Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 08:53:48 -0400
[This is from my private email.--Moza]
Subject: Public Notice published September 6, 2000
I am writing in regards to a "Public Notice' published, September 6th, 2000, in
the Beauregard Daily News (page10).
In this notice it is stated that, "On August 29th, 2000, U.S. Army Deputy
Commander, JRTC and Fort Polk, made a decision to allow the 7th Chemical
Company to conduct aerial releases of a biological simulant during on-going
field training exercises with the Biological integrated Detection System
(Bids)."
Additionally the public notice identified the simulant as "Bacillus subtillis."
This notice states that "off post drift of the simulant is not probable," and
according to the notice "the bacterial spores will be irradiated and thereby
rendered non-viable (dead)."
I would like to voice my total absolute and irrevocable disapproval to such a
decision being made. I would like also to ask for an answer to the following
question, "Has this training exercise already been conducted on military
owned or should I say tax payer owned lands?" I ask this because of the
numerous respiratory infections that have become rampant throughout areas
in close proximity to Ft Polk? I myself, as well as other members of my
family are ill, suffering from burning eyes, infected sinuses, ringing of the
ears,,,,etc.
"Off post drift" is stated not to be "probable." Since when do we possess the
ability to know when a breeze will arise. Which also lends credence to the
very high cancer rates experienced in this area. Does "depleted uranium"
used in the ammo exercises there have anything to do with this? I certainly
believe it does....
I could go on and on about my objections to the citizens of my beloved home
being subjected to the "guinea pig" tactics that have been employed on the
un-suspecting public.
No, we do not want it now, nor ever,,,,and if you ask me if I trust the
decision,,,my answer is a resounding NO!
I will close by asking under Freedom of Information for answer to my
question,,,,"has this exercise already been conducted and if so, when?"
Thank you,

Subject: [BPR] - PM acknowledges Palestinian ties to Jerusalem
From: bpr-list@philologos.org("Moza")

PM acknowledges Palestinian ties to Jerusalem
By Herb Keinon
NEW YORK (September 7) - Prime Minister Ehud Barak took the world's
stage yesterday at the UN Millennium Summit and, after reiterating the
centrality and importance of Jerusalem to the Jewish people for the last
2,000 years, also acknowledged that the city is "cherished by our
Palestinian neighbors."
"We recognize that Jerusalem is also sacred to Moslems and Christians the
world over, and cherished by our Palestinian neighbors," Barak said. "A true
peace will reflect all these bonds."
He pledged that "Jerusalem will remain united and open to all who love her."
A spokesman in the Prime Minister's Office said this marked the first time
that an Israeli leader acknowledged a Palestinian connection to the capital in
such terms.
His gesture was not reciprocated by Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser
Arafat, who accused Israel of trying to "Judaize" the city and - although
referring to it as the "cradle of Christ" and the point of Mohammed's
ascension to heaven - did not acknowledge any Jewish connection to
Jerusalem.
"We are confronting Israeli attempts at the Judaization of Jerusalem, land
confiscation, and the building of Israeli illegal settlements, the siege of
Bethlehem, and lack of implementation of agreements signed by Israel,"
Arafat said.
"Let this Millennium Summit be the beginning of the end of the greatest and
most difficult refugee tragedy in the world," he said.
After their speeches, Clinton met with Barak for an hour at the nearby
Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and the US leader was scheduled to meet with Arafat
early this morning, and later on with other Arab leaders.
A senior official said after the Clinton-Barak meeting that it was still unclear
what direction Arafat was taking, but added they hoped that "within the next
couple of days the picture should become clearer." He said the parties were
working against a deadline of early October, when Congress adjourns and
the US public becomes focused on the election campaign.
The official said there were no plans yet to convene a three-way summit of
Clinton, Barak, and Arafat, as earlier speculated.
Arafat was being pressed by world leaders, and told that the time has come
to make "hard decisions," the official added.
In one of the only conciliatory remarks during his five-minute speech, Arafat
said, "We have made a strategic decision committing ourselves to the peace
process, making significant and painful concessions in order to arrive at
reasonable compromises acceptable to both sides."
He said the Palestinians are willing to accept a state "on less than a quarter
of the historic territory of Palestine, as well as numerous other suggestions
pertaining to other aspects of our rights."
Regarding his threat to unilaterally declare a state on September 13, Arafat
said the Palestinians had already delayed a declaration once - in May 1999 -
and are aware that there are many countries that are advising against it now.
The final decision, he said, will be made at the Palestinian National Council
meeting in Gaza over the weekend.
Barak sat impassively throughout Arafat's address.
There was speculation that in his meeting with Arafat, Clinton would press
him to accept one of various plans that have recently been floated regarding
Jerusalem.
One American plan on Jerusalem reportedly has the Palestinians gaining
sovereignty over Al-Aksa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock shrine, Israel
retaining sovereignty over the Old City's Jewish Quarter, and the Western
Wall, with the Temple Mount plaza under "God's sovereignty."
Arafat has so far rejected all proposals that give him anything less than
complete control of east Jerusalem and the Temple Mount.
Clinton said in a speech opening the three-day UN Millennium Summit,
where dozens of presidents and prime ministers were scheduled to speak
yesterday, that both Barak and Arafat have pledged "to resolve the final
differences between them this year," and called on the international
community to support the peace process.
Clinton's short speech focused briefly on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"Right now, from the Middle East to Burundi to the Congo to South Asia,
leaders are facing this kind of choice, between confrontation and
compromise," Clinton said. "Chairman Arafat and Prime Minister Barak are
with us here today. They have promised to resolve the final differences
between them this year, finally completing the Oslo process embodied in the
Declaration of Principles....
"To those who have supported the right of Israel to live in security and peace
to those who have championed the Palestinian cause these many years, let
me say to all of you, they need your support now, more than ever, to take
the hard risks for peace," he said. "They have the chance to do it. But like all
life's chances, it is fleeting and about to pass. There is not a moment to
lose."
Arafat was followed to the podium by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Shara,
who said there will be no solution in the Middle East until the refugees have
the right to return, all the territories are ceded, and there is nuclear
disarmament in the region.
Barak opened his brief speech with a quote from Micha: "Nation shall not lift
up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." He said that,
"Jerusalem, the eternal capital of Israel, now calls for a peace of honor, of
courage, and of brotherhood."
Barak's speech was the 22nd of some 160 at the three-day conference, and -
along with Arafat's - was one of only a few that met with applause. The
addresses had a five-minute time limit.
Barak called on the Palestinians to compromise, saying that, "No side can
achieve 100 percent of its dreams if we are to succeed. My government has
shown, in negotiations with Syria and the Palestinians, as in our full
implementation of UN Security Resolution 425, that it can make painful
decisions for the sake of peace. It remains to be seen whether our
counterparts are also capable of rising to the magnitude of the hour."
Stretching out his arm, Barak turned to Arafat and called out to him to, "Join
me in this historic passage. We are at the Rubicon, and neither of us can
cross it alone."
Referring to Arafat's threat to unilaterally declare a state, Barak said, "The
member states of the United Nations can lend a pivotal hand by encouraging
the difficult process of reconciliation, and by opposing any unilateral
measures, which may well spark a renewed cycle of violence and obliterate
the prospects of peace."
After delivering his speech, Barak went to a meeting late last night with
French President Jacques Chirac, followed by the long-awaited discussion
with Clinton. He was also slated to meet with Uzbekistan President Islam
Karimov and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder late last night.
Earlier in the day, Barak held a 30-minute meeting with Indonesian President
Abdurrahman Wahid, head of the world's most populous Islamic state. At
that meeting, Barak pressed Wahid - who has visited Israel twice and is
close to Shimon Peres - to use his influence to keep the Conference of
Islamic Countries from taking extreme positions at its conference scheduled
for Qatar in November.
According to Barak's office, Wahid told him that he met yesterday with
Arafat, who understands that if he unilaterally declares a Palestinian state, he
will not enjoy widespread international recognition.
Barak also had a meeting with South African President Thabo Mbeki, who
stressed his country's "special relationship" with the Palestinians and with
Arafat. Mbeki said he would meet Arafat and make clear to him "the need to
make courageous decisions that are the key to reaching an agreement."
The summit comes only days before Monday's opening of UN General
Assembly. It was convened by Secretary General Kofi Annan on Tuesday
when he rang the Japanese Peace Bell, which was cast from coins donated
by children from 60 nations.
"Today let us hear the bell ring loud and clear and true to our conscience,"
he said. "Let it ring out a century of cruelty and destruction and let it ring in a
millennium of hope and peace."
Annan has said he hopes the summit will call for halving extreme poverty by
the year 2015, and plan to "strengthen UN peace operations and enable
them to succeed in places where no other organization is able or willing to
act."
"The problems seem huge," Annan said. "But in today's world, given the
technology and the resources around, we have the means to tackle them. If
we have the will, we can deal with them."
In his speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an international
conference, to be held in Moscow, that would ban the militarization of space.
That was seen as a response to American proposals for an antimissile
defense system. "The new century of the United Nations must... go down in
history as a period of real disarmament," he said.
Other speakers yesterday included Iranian President Mohammed Khatami,
King Abdullah II of Jordan, French President Chirac, Chinese President Jiang
Zemin, and Cuban President Fidel Castro.

*** Putin: Ban militarization of space
UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday
called upon world leaders to come to Moscow for a conference to ban
the militarization of space - a challenge to any American plan to
build an anti-missile defense system. Addressing the Millennium
Summit at the United Nations, Putin described the 1972 Anti-Ballistic
Missile Treaty as a "foundation" of the entire nuclear arms control
system. He did not mention the United States in his address. But his
statement came as the latest signal that Russia would continue
pushing the United States to fully abandon its plans to deploy
defenses against missile threats from rogue nations, such as North
Korea. Putin has welcomed President Clinton's announcement that he
would leave the final decision on whether to deploy the missile
system to the next administration. See

*** Gorbachev chides Putin on submarine
NEW YORK (AP) - Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the man who set the Soviet
Union on the road to democracy, said Wednesday that Russian President
Vladimir Putin has made "mistakes of style" but is a good leader who
deserves his people's support. Among Putin's mistakes, Gorbachev
said, was waiting four days to inform the Russian public of the Kursk
submarine tragedy, and failing to interrupt his vacation until a week
after the sea disaster that killed all 118 seamen aboard the most
modern submarine in the Russian fleet. Gorbachev, who himself was
criticized for waiting several days before commenting on the
explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power station April 26, 1986, said
Putin's initial response to the Kursk's sinking was "inadequate." See

*** Hezbollah defines its political role
BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - After years of battling Israeli troops in
south Lebanon, the Hezbollah guerrilla movement now looks set to play
a significant role in Lebanese politics after voters rewarded the
"party of God" with gains in parliament elections this week.
Hezbollah, treated as heroes by many Lebanese after Israel's May 24
withdrawal from the south after two decades of occupation, has said
little since about its political agenda, but is talking about
focusing on the social services they're already providing to their
Shiite Muslim constituency. In voting Sunday in south Lebanon, the
Bekaa Valley and Beirut, Hezbollah increased its delegates in the
128-member legislature from seven to nine - with three
Hezbollah-backed candidates also winning seats. See

Misleading media reports reflected
homosexual-activist press releases
By David M. Bresnahan
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com
Although recent media reports, spearheaded by a story in the New York
Times, have uncritically trumpeted as fact claims of homosexual
activists that major corporations are withdrawing donations from the
Boy Scouts of America, WorldNetDaily has found the claims to be
largely untrue.
In fact, membership and funding for the Boy Scouts of America are now
at record levels.
"All across the country, Scouting is prospering and growing," said
Robert M. Gates, president of the National Eagle Scout Association in
a recent letter to members. "Virtually every council has had healthy
growth in both youth members and adult volunteers."
"Every council is enjoying improved financial support, to the extent
that many are making capital improvements in their camps and council
service centers for the first time in years. Many councils are now
able to begin building endowments or add to existing ones that will
enhance programs for years to come," explained Gates.
Enrollment in scouting is higher than at any time since the 1970s,
according to BSA national spokesman Greg Shields. Over 47,000 boys
earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1999, a new record.
Many newspapers and television network news programs have repeated
claims made in a New York Times article by reporter Kate Zernike that
the BSA has suffered a significant financial loss -- but none of
those news organizations verified the claims.
For the past three years, homosexual activists, represented by the
Lambda Legal Defense Fund, have been locked in a battle with the Boy
Scouts over their policy of not accepting homosexuals as adult
leaders. That dispute was settled on June 28 when the U.S. Supreme
Court ruled that the BSA is a private organization with the right to
exclude anyone from membership.
San Francisco may have a population with a higher than average
percentage of homosexuals and those who are sympathetic to
homosexuals. Yet despite major publicity over the homosexual issue,
membership has increased by about 14 percent a year in the San
Francisco Bay Area Council of the BSA.
Shields told WorldNetDaily in a phone interview that there are now
about 1.2 million adult leaders and about 5 million members of Cub
Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorers -- a record high. Shields also
pointed out that the BSA has not suffered financial loss.
Numerous homosexual activist groups have posted information on
websites repeating information about major corporations that they
claim have stopped donating to the BSA. WorldNetDaily found that most
of those claims are false. The claims made by homosexual groups, such
as Lambda Legal, appeared in the New York Times and were then
repeated in many papers and news programs. (Editor's note:
WorldNetDaily carried the link to the inaccurate New York Times
story, and apologizes for having inadvertently spread the
misinformation.)
Lambda Legal and various homosexual organizations claim a number of
large corporations once gave to the Boy Scouts of America, but no
longer do so because they disagree with the BSA policy on
homosexuality. Investigations by WorldNetDaily and others have found
that claim to be an exaggeration.
The list of donors said to be in opposition to the Boy Scouts
includes:
Levi Strauss & Company
Bank of America
Wells Fargo
First Interstate
Chase Manhattan
Textron, Inc.
AMICA
First Union
Shields told WorldNetDaily that the list is not accurate and said he
is challenging members of the press to investigate for themselves by
contacting each company directly.
Although Bank of America briefly banned the Boy Scouts from their
list of acceptable worthy causes in 1992, they changed that policy
shortly after it was announced. A company spokesman did not wish to
be quoted, but confirmed that Bank of America does not have a ban on
donations.
Wells Fargo did ban donations to the Scouts in 1992, but changed that
policy in 1998, according to a company spokesman. Norwest Corp.
merged with Wells Fargo and allowed all local bank presidents to
determine how they want to handle donations.
First Interstate Bank never banned donations to the Boy Scouts,
according to a spokesman. News accounts from 1992 indicate only that
a ban was considered at that time, but there were no reports of an
actual ban.
Chase Manhattan Bank issued a statement last week to announce plans
to continue financial support for the BSA. The bank provides $200,000
a year to the Boy Scouts. Withdrawal of support would be "harmful to
thousands of children," according to the statement. The New York
Times had reflected the press releases of homosexual activist groups
in claiming the bank does not plan to donate to the scouts.
Levi Strauss & Company is the only company on the list that has been
reported on accurately. However, Shields said there has been no
impact on the programs of the Boy Scouts because of the loss of
donations from Levi Strauss & Company, which stopped donating to BSA
in 1992 as a protest over the homosexual issue.
Textron, Inc. never donated to the Boy Scouts until 1999 when it gave
$3,000 to a local group in Rhode Island, according to spokeswoman
Susan Bishop. Textron decided not to give to the Boy Scouts directly,
but permits subsidiary companies to do so. Textron owns Bell
Helicopters, Cessna Citation jets, E-Z-GO golf carts, Kautex fuel
tanks, Camcar fasteners, Textron Financial, Textron Automotive,
Textron Fastening Systems, Textron Golf and Turf, OmniQuip Textron,
Greenlee Textron, Textron Fluid and Power, and Textron Industrial
Components. The parent company does not place any restrictions on any
of the subsidiary companies and permits donations to the BSA,
according to Bishop.
Homosexual activist groups have claimed, and a number of news
organizations have reported, that Textron, Inc. has given hundreds of
thousands of dollars to the Boy Scouts.
"Companies like Chase Manhattan Bank and Textron Inc., have withdrawn
hundreds of thousands of dollars in support to local and national
scouting groups nationwide," reported Kate Zernike in her Aug. 29 New
York Times article.
Bishop pointed out that Textron never did have a policy regarding the
Boy Scouts prior to April 2000, and never gave money to the Boy
Scouts beyond the $3,000 donated in 1999 to a local group. She
emphasized that donations are left up to the subsidiary companies
owned by Textron.
"Last year we gave $3,000 to a local (BSA) fundraising dinner, and we
declined to do that this year," said Bishop.
Zernike also reported that "dozens of United Ways from Massachusetts
to San Francisco have cut off money amounting to millions of dollars
each year." Since then, the Times has run a correction and said the
actual number of United Ways that have defunded the Boy Scouts is
more like a "dozen" rather than "dozens."
United Way of America does not tell its 1,400 local chapters how to
handle the BSA issue. Less than 12 local United Way chapters have
discontinued donations to the Boy Scouts, according to a United Way
national spokesman. Other chapters are in the process of considering
a ban.
Shields said the loss of a few United Way chapters is disappointing,
but it will not change the stand taken by the BSA on the homosexual
issue.
"We have never accepted homosexual leaders and we will never accept
homosexual leaders," he stated.
The Traditional Values Coalition, a family-values activist
organization representing 43,000 churches in America, has also
investigated the claims made by the New York Times and activist
groups. Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, chairman, said he has found that most
corporations have not banned donations to the Boy Scouts at all.
"When we've called these groups," said Sheldon, "we find out that in
fact they have not decided to defund the scouts at all."
He said he also learned that AMICA, an insurance holding company, has
been reported by some groups to be opposed to the BSA policy on
homosexuals. His investigation discovered that the company never
decided to stop donations to the BSA and will continue to do so.
Sheldon also confirmed that Bank of America reversed its decision to
withhold donations.
"Bank of America went through over $100 million of withdrawals when
they said they were going to defund the Boy Scouts," he explained.
"They changed their position years ago."
First Union bank considered a ban on donations to the Boy Scouts, but
decided instead to continue, according to an official statement.
"It is First Union's intention to evaluate each of its corporate
contributions to ensure that they achieve an appropriate balance
between inclusiveness and community service, and that they are
consistent with First Union's core values. Over the past several
weeks, First Union has engaged in thoughtful and engaging discussions
with regard to the issues surrounding its support of the Boy Scouts
of America. As a result of these discussions, First Union will
continue to support the Boy Scouts of America. First Union believes
that the Boy Scouts offer programs to America's youth that are
meaningful and positive," said the company statement First Union
e-mailed to WorldNetDaily.
Sheldon said the homosexual activists would not stop their effort to
hurt the Boy Scouts financially, and said he plans to continue to ask
the members of the 43,000 churches he represents to fight back.
"We're calling upon every American to put pressure on Corporate
America to continue --and to increase -- funding for the Boy Scouts.
We are also calling upon corporate heads to reject the strident
demands of homosexual activists to destroy whatever groups they
cannot control," said Sheldon. "Corporate America should stand
alongside the Boy Scouts for morality, decency, and honesty."
"Corporate America must make a choice," said Sheldon. "Businessmen
must decide if they're going to support homosexual sodomy over the
Boy Scouts. If they choose sodomy over the Scouts, the American
people should rise up to boycott their products."

Words having meaning
By Joan Veon
© 2000 WorldNetDaily.com
When the Titanic sunk, the people who traveled on the ship could not
believe that it was actually happening. After all, it had been sold
to them as unsinkable since its unique design included several sealed
compartments which would prevent it from sinking. Then, the
unbelievable happened: the ship hit an iceberg in the most vulnerable
area. The rest is history.
We don't know the rest of the story, however, about the goals of the
United Nations. For years Americans have been told only part or bits
of the story. Words which political leaders, both here and abroad
have used, have not been defined for us. They have been used and like
the story of the "King's New Clothes," people try not to show their
ignorance by asking the obvious.
It is time to ask the obvious.
What are they saying in those rose-colored speeches at the United
Nations and what does it mean for me?
The world is one
Kofi Annan opened up the historic Millennium Assembly, going on this
week, by using a number of phrases which connote a shift of ownership
and responsibility. In past meetings I recall the terminology used
conveyed the understanding that our countries were individual
nation-states. Today it was different. He said, "You are the leaders
to whom the world's peoples have entrusted their destiny. They look
to you to protect them from the great dangers of our time." Let's
discuss this. Using all of the collective phrases I have heard over
the past six years in covering United Nations conferences, it tells
me there has been a transfer of responsibility from individual
nation-states to a new collective whole -- the leaders of the world
as one. Other phrases used today included "common heritage, common
awareness, acting in partnership, common good, and solidarity." They
all say the same thing: we are one, we are the same.
Global governance
Mr. Annan also described global governance, a phrase which has been
popularized by those who support the concept of the New World Order
or world government. Global governance is a phrase which sounds
innocuous -- can't quite put your finger on it and, because you don't
understand the agenda, you won't be able to figure out its meaning.
He said,
Your peoples look to you for a common effort to solve their problems.
They expect you to work together as governments. And they expect you
to work together with all the other institutions -- profit and
non-profit, public and private -- where human beings join hands to
promote their ideas and their interests.
What he was doing was explaining that the day to day responsibility
of government has shifted from that of being the sole responsibility
of governments to a new entity: public-private partnerships.
Public-private partnerships was the subject of the Habitat II
Programme of Action in Istanbul at the Habitat II Conferences. In
numerous interviews which I have conducted with major U.N. movers and
shakers, they all confirm that the world has come to a point where we
have to "partner with civil society, with businesses, and other
actors."
It should cause all people concern to know that the United Nations is
now shifting governmental responsibility to these new public-private
partnerships, the details of which I discuss in my previous column,
"The real implications of globalization." Before long, instead of
seeing American corporations and various levels of American
governmental entities in a partnership, you will see a further
blending or integration with foreign corporations and local, state,
county and federal government!
America is changing, and this is the change they don't want you to
understand.
What is global governance? They say it is not world government, but
it really is. A different form of world government than what we
imagined with governments merging their power under one umbrella --
the United Nations. Adopting that phrase with public-private
partnership, it is a broader form of "governance" because now they
have shifted the power and responsibility to entities which have deep
pockets: multinational and transnational corporations. Some day in
the future in order to get out of global governance, instead of
electing someone else to represent us (since that too will change),
we will have to sell our stock in British Petroleum, ATT, TRW, 3M,
AmericanExpress, CitiGroup, etc.
Lastly, what is another word for global governance? Fascism. When
government marries business, a philosophical shift of greater
proportions has just occurred. We have switched from free enterprise
-- where every person is allowed to make a profit to one of great
greed and control.
Reform and strengthening of the United Nations
While books could be written on this subject, we are hearing at the
dawn of the third millennium about adding great power to this
unelected global structure. Bill Clinton, who has done more to polish
and perfect world government, called for the United Nations to have a
"credible force, missions well-defined by a well-functioning
headquarters." Britain's Tony Blair followed Clinton's appeal with
calling for the U.N. to respond to change. He said, "U.N. soldiers
need to work within a system and a U.N. organization, better geared
to dealing with the heavy demands being placed on them. This means a
new contract between the U.N. and its members."
Constance Morella, a Republican from Maryland, has introduced House
Bill 4453 which calls for a United Nations Rapid Deployment Force and
for 6,000 Americans soldiers to be unilaterally turned over to the
United Nations. Along with seven other countries who have already
signed a letter of intent to donate 6,000 of their soldiers, the U.N.
is ready to add its own army. If countries are donating their
soldiers, I imagine they will also be donating equipment, planes,
conveyers, helicopters, etc.
Perhaps it is time to ask who the opposition to the United Nations
is. Are they "nationalists," i.e. those who want their own country's
constitution? Most Americans don't even know what "U.N." stands for,
let alone strengthen and empower it to look, feel and act as a world
governmental structure.
The ideas to strengthen the United Nations have long included a
global tax and a people's parliament. These too were recommended by
world leaders. The United Nations is being reinvented before our very
eyes, before we have time to breathe! Teeth are being put into its
structure to make it a very powerful world entity. How will we deal
with this? What lifeline mechanisms do the American people have? They
have their Second Amendment rights -- the right to bear arms. Our
Forefathers thought of everything when they wrote our sacred
Constitution. The goal and determination of Americans in this hour
will determine who and what is saved. Ben Franklin replied to the
little lady who asked him what sort of government the Founders had
created.
"We have a republic, madam, if you can keep it," he replied.

Subject: [BPR] - Preparation of the Passover Lamb
From: bpr-list@philologos.org("Tricia")
Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 17:43:06 +0100
Many years ago I made brief notes, taken from a TV documentary called "Sons
of Abraham" on Channel 4, but I reproduce them here as I thought they might
interest the members of this list. They refer to the Samaritan traditions
for preparation of the Passover lamb. (The program was not a Christian one,
nor - as far as I know - Jewish. It was merely a historical documentary.)
1. The carcase is boiled in boiling water to remove the wool
2. The lamb is examined and any non-kosher parts are removed while 12
priests intone the Law.
3. The carcase is put on a wooden spit or spike, and lowered into an
underground pit of fire.
4. The pit is covered over with earth.
5. After three hours, the lamb is taken out and consumed.
It will not escape the notice of readers of this list that these events have
a prophetic meaning relating to the trial, curcifixion, death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ!
1. The garments of Jesus were removed and he was beaten, his flesh becoming
raw and red. (See also Ezek 44:17) Boiling as a symbol of judgement, see
Ezek 24:5-6. Jesus Christ took our judgement in his own body.
2. Jesus was examined by the authorities to find his defects (but none were
found - the defects had to be invented.)
3. Jesus was fixed to a stake or wooden cross (some read the word as
"stake", which was the large upright beam of the cross.) Jesus died and
"descended into hell". (Ps 16:10/Acts 2:31-32)
4. Jesus was in the heart of the earth. (Matt 12:40)
5. After three days, Jesus rose again. (His "flesh and blood" are now
consumed by his followers in communion with his death, as he instructed.
(John 6:54-55))

Help solve mystery of monster waves
By Milt Salamon
A FLORIDA TODAY column
About 40 years ago, says Indialantic reader Mary Swanson, she had a
frightening experience. It still puzzles her.
"The movie 'The Perfect Storm' and articles about possible tsunami
waves along the northeast coast brought it to mind," she said. "It's
a mystery I've wondered about since 1962. Perhaps one of your readers
can solve it.
"I was living in Pompano Beach, half a block from the ocean, when I
glanced out of my window one bright sunny day and saw hordes of very
excited people walking by with their cameras. It was mid-morning,
with a blue sky, fleecy white clouds and no wind.
"I investigated, and witnessed huge waves, one after another, washing
over four- and five-story buildings. Their roar was as loud as
Niagara Falls and very frightening. No one knew what to expect," Mary
recalled.
"The pleasure fishing boats had left Hillsboro Harbor that morning in
fairly calm seas, but were unable to return for several days because
the waves continued. Later that day I heard that five miles out, the
seas remained calm.
"The waves created hurricane-type damage to the buildings along the
ocean. So much sand was washed ashore, snow plows had to be brought
down from the Carolinas to clear State Road A1A."
Mary added: "As I remember, this was in March or April and occurred
along quite a stretch of coastline going northward. At the time, no
one could explain what had happened although there was much
speculation.
"I moved to Arizona shortly after that and never knew what it was all
about. I moved back to Florida 10 years ago and have never read
anything about this very mysterious happening," Mary concluded. "Can
you please put my mind at rest!"

Wild waves of '62 are well remembered
By Milt Salamon
A FLORIDA TODAY column
Indialantic reader Mary Swanson's puzzled memory of mysterious and
frightening waves sweeping Pompano Beach in early 1962 is drawing
varied responses. We wrote of it twice last week.
Former USAF meteorologist Bill Lewis writes: "There was a major
northeaster off the East Coast in 1962, from March 2 to 6. This storm
produced tremendous waves and repeated high tides along the northeast
coast, and did major damage in New Jersey and other areas.
"I believe this storm could have produced strong, high waves on the
Florida coast, similar to those caused by the 'perfect' Halloween
storm of 1991."
Bill said he didn't know about a storm off Africa in 1962 - named by
another reader as the cause of Florida's waves - but doubted "it
would cause that action."
. . ECHOING Bill's doubt, retired Titusville meteorologist J.R.
Gulick told us he recalled a similar event while living in Miami "in
the 1960s," probably in 1962.
"Hearing reports of high waves on Miami Beach, I drove over to take a
look. Water was up into the lobbies of several hotels along Collins
Avenue." It was a beautiful day (as Mary described) - "not unusual
during such events since the origin normally is hundreds of miles
away.
"In this case, an intense low pressure system, elongated in shape,
was stationary off the middle Atlantic coast," J.R. said. "The result
was strong northeast or north-northeasterly winds blowing for an
extended time over the same long extent of water, thus producing
unusually high waves. As such waves move out of the generating area,
they are called swells and they can travel for great distances,
gradually decreasing in size and frequency. Winter storms in the Gulf
of Alaska sometimes cause swells in excess of 20 feet along the
northern shores of the Hawaiian Islands, much to the delight of
expert surfers."
(J.R. and others questioned Mary's remembrance of waves "washing over
four- and five-story buildings," saying that's too high. She concedes
they may be right, noting: "It's been so long . . ."
. . ADDING his recollection of those monster waves, Ed Chandler of
Melbourne Beach said: "At that time I was employed by RCA and worked
at the Impact Predictor on the Cape. As I passed through Patrick AFB
in the vicinity of the old PAFB Pier, there were huge swells
approaching the shore - extremely high swells, shaped like a sine
wave, each followed immediately by another. As I recall, this
phenomenon continued for several days and nights," Ed said.
"The swells were breaking just underneath the surface of the pier.
After a day or two, parts of the pier flooring were damaged or
missing. Eventually the end of the pier, which was in the shape of a
T, had disappeared.
"Later I learned that the huge swells were caused by a large storm
passing at considerable distance from shore. The pier was
subsequently rebuilt at a greater height. As I recall, that pier was
also eventually destroyed by subsequent storms." (Note: More to
come!)

Meteor, not storm, blamed for big waves
By Milt Salamon
A FLORIDA TODAY column
"I'd be willing to bet that if you had the weather maps of the
Atlantic Ocean on those days, you'd find no wave-generating storm off
Africa," wrote Gene Floersch of Melbourne Beach. He was referring to
a suggested cause of the mysterious huge waves we've been writing
about.
They suddenly invaded the beach north of Fort Lauderdale on a clear,
sunny, wind-free day in early March 1962 and frightened onlookers.
One, Mary Swanson, now an Indialantic resident, said she'd moved to
Arizona soon after the event and never knew what caused it.
She hoped our readers could tell her. We've been reporting their
responses, which mostly blame the waves on far-off storms, as distant
as Africa.
Gene contrasted the nature of the waves described by Mary to the
storm-generated ocean swells that "every good surfer knows" - like
the ones he surfed that year in Daytona Beach ("no mystery waves
there," he said).
"Any storm powerful enough to send waves clear across the Atlantic
would have affected the whole Florida coastline . . . and would also
have first devastated the Bahama Islands," Gene said.
However, he added, "there was a more recent incident of 'mystery
waves' that did hit Daytona Beach on an evening when the sea was
flat, swamping beach-parked cars and scaring a lot of tourists at the
boardwalk. Officials claimed these waves were generated by a 'sand
slide' out on the continental shelf, but there was no geological
activity registered by seismic sensors along the east coast.
"Some weeks later a local news channel ran a report about the
operators of a shrimp boat off the coast witnessing a huge splash in
the distance and then almost being swamped by massive swells.
"I believe the waves in both cases were caused by meteor impacts at
sea. I also believe that safety officials play down these incidents,
feeding the public any excuse but the truth.
"Why? Because we have no defense or warning systems to deal with
meteor impacts. Our government justifies spending billions of tax
dollars on missile defense systems, and yet a missile attack is less
of a threat than the debris flying around in local space. The reality
is that even if an imminent impact were predicted, there is nothing
we could do about it."
