U.S. Reform Rabbis Sanction Same-Sex Unions

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The largest group of U.S. rabbis
has become the first major religious denomination to
officially sanction same-sex unions, offering the
protection of Reform Judaism to clergy who decide to
officiate at such ceremonies, the Washington Post reported
on Thursday.

In an overwhelming voice vote on Wednesday, about 500
members of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR)
approved a resolution backing any rabbi's decision to
preside over a gay union through ``appropriate Jewish
ritual,'' the paper reported.

But in a compromise reflecting the issue's sensitivity,
the rabbis added that they would ``recognize the diversity
of opinion within our ranks'' and support the decision of
those who choose not to officiate at such ceremonies.

The vote comes when many Christian denominations are
censuring clergy who bless gay unions. The group, which
represents 1,800 Reform rabbis, hopes others will
eventually follow its lead, the Post said.

``These are people who are subjected to signals, subtle
and not so subtle, that they are abnormal, sinful, less
than whole,'' Rabbi Paul Menitoff, executive vice president
of the CCAR, told the paper. ``Can you imagine the impact
on them to finally hear a confirming message after so many
negative messages from all those religious groups?''

The CCAR resolution lends the group's imprimatur to an
already commonplace practice in the Reform movement,
Judaism's most progressive and largest wing, with at least
1.5 million members nationally.

For more than a decade, Reform rabbis across the United
States have led same-sex ceremonies at their synagogues
with varying degrees of formality, from simple blessings of
a gay Jewish home to full-fledged wedding facsimiles, rings
and all.

In 1990, the movement agreed to ordain openly gay rabbis,
endorsing the view that ``all Jews are religiously equal
regardless of sexual orientation.''

To acknowledge the range of rabbis' opinions about same-
sex unions, movement leaders stressed on Wednesday that
each rabbi could decide what he or she considered
``appropriate Jewish ritual,'' and called for developing a
wide range of sample ceremonies.

They also made clear that the resolution does not suggest
such ceremonies are marriages and does not explicitly
encourage rabbis to perform them.

The issue of gays having the right to civil marriages has
become a national controversy for several years. More than
30 states and the U.S. Congress have passed laws banning
gay marriage and refusing to recognize such marriages
performed elsewhere.

California voters earlier this month approved a ballot
measure opposing gay marriage and the West Virginia
legislature is expected to take up a similar measure shortly.

But on March 16 the Vermont House of Representatives voted
to recognize same-sex unions, moving the small New England
state a major step closer to becoming the first in the
United States to give gay people the same rights as married
heterosexuals.

Other states such as Hawaii and Rhode Island are
considering expanding the civil rights of homosexuals, and
several states have broad gay rights protections already on
the books.

No nation allows same-sex marriage. But within the last 10
years several countries including Denmark, Norway, Sweden,
the Netherlands and France have created a status called
registered partnerships.

Human Embryo Cloning Patent Challenged

BRUSSELS, Belgium, March 30, 2000 (ENS) - The European Parliament
voted today to oppose an illegal patent for breeding human embryos. The
parliament voted 285 to 133 to approve the resolution which also called for
better control of the European Patent Office, the agency that granted the
original patent.

"The EU and national governments must now ensure that patents on human
genes and parts of the human body are clearly forbidden," said Greenpeace
spokesperson Imke Ide.

On February 21, Greenpeace made public the fact that the patent granted
last year by the European Patent Office extended to breeding human
embryos.

The Patent Office immediately admitted "a mistake" and asked third parties
to file a notice of opposition as it cannot revoke a patent itself without outside
opposition.

Such notice has so far been filed by Greenpeace and hundreds of individuals
and organisations and as well by the German government.

With today's vote, taken on the initiative of MEP Evelyne Gebhardt of
Germany, a Socialist, the European Parliament decided to join this
opposition.

The European Forum of National Medical Associations and the WHO (region
Europe) have criticised patents on human genes.

Ide welcomed the vote, saying, "We appreciate Members of the European
Parliament trying to set limits to patenting life as this is about to get out of
control."

Greenpeace views the European Parliament's initiative as important because
it is likely to affect the ongoing debate on the new European Union patent
law.

The law, known as a directive, is due to be discussed and implemented by
the national parliaments of the 15 European Union (EU) Member States
within the next months.

"All patents of life should be banned," said Ide. "That means humans,
animals and plants and their genes. The EU patenting directive is so
incomplete and unclear it will only aggravate the chaos over patents. Its
implementation must be suspended or the text must be supplemented."

Australia Struggles with Human Cloning Laws

In Australia, a government inquiry yesterday into the scientific, ethical and
regulatory considerations surrounding the cloning of human beings
spotlighted the fact that laws regulating cloning of human cells differ from
state to state. Many lawmakers called for a uniform nationally coordinated
enforceable approach to human cloning.

The Liberal government of John Howard should call a halt to all cloning until
further work could be done on techniques to avoid use of embryos, Australian
Democrats deputy leader Natasha Stott Despoja said today.

"The difference between reproductive cloning to produce identical offspring
and therapeutic cloning, which could be used to produce human stem cells,
tissues and organs, must be made, Senator Stott Despoja told reporters.

"I believe we should ban reproductive cloning and that we should broadly
discuss the implications of therapeutic cloning before we proceed any
further," she said.

Supporters of human cloning say the technology is expected to result in
medical breakthroughs. They says cloning of early stage human embryos
should be allowed for medical research. Opponents say that would open the
door to human cloning and create living, "spare-parts" factories.

In January 1998, 19 European nations signed an agreement to prohibit the
cloning of humans.

In June 1999, UK government reaffirmed its policy that human reproductive
cloning is ethically unacceptable but established an independent, expert
advisory group to assess the potential benefits of the use of cloning
techniques for therapeutic purposes.

In the United States, two bills to prohibit human cloning were introduced in
the House of Representatives in 1999, but neither has been enacted into law.
Currently, there is a moratorium on the use of federal funds for human
cloning research.

President Bill Clinton said in 1998 that "using somatic cell nuclear transfer
cloning techniques to create a human being is untested, unsafe, and morally
unacceptable." The President created the National Bioethics Advisory
Commission (NBAC) in 1995.

The NBAC recommends against federal funding for the creation of embryos
for research by either in vitro fertilization or somatic cell nuclear transfer
cloning said NBAC Commissioner Dr. James Childress, testifying on
November 4, 1999 before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor,
Health and Human Services and Education.

However, Dr. Childress said, "It would be acceptable for the federal
government to fund research that both derives and uses stem cells from
cadaveric fetal tissue and from embryos remaining from fertility treatment, if
certain guidelines and safeguards are in place and if there is an appropriate
and open system of national oversight and review."

Pope Prepares Jerusalem for the Anti-Christ

On March 21, 2000, the pope of Roman Catholicism arrived
in Jerusalem. The carefully orchestrated pilgrimage
designed to minimize Israel's divine right to fully inherit
Jerusalem and all of the land promised to her by Almighty
God began ironically on the Jewish festival day of Purim.

The word Purim means "lots" as in casting lots when
gambling. The name Purim (lots) was given in remembrance of
a murderous plot by Haman. Haman cast lots to decide when
he should carry into effect a decree issued by the king for
the extermination of the Jews (Esther 3:6, 9:24). The
tables were turned on Haman and instead it was he and his
offspring who would die (Esther 9:25).

When recognizing the determined efforts of the Devil and
his minions to partition and destroy Israel in fulfillment
of the prophesied course of events for these last days -
the pope's arrival in Israel on Purim should be viewed in
our estimation as having taken place according to
preordained schedule. Like the death of Haman, who
nurtured a murderous plot against the Jews in defiance of
God so too will the same fate of Haman the foolish gambler
come back upon the heads of the children of darkness who
are preparing in Jerusalem the lair for the religion of the
Anti-Christ.

An article from the March 27, 2000 Israel Wire, which
headlined, "Pope...returns...to Rome" reported that "the
pope met with Grand Mufti Ikrema Sabri on Jerusalem's
Temple Mount, where he called upon the church to assist in
ending 'Israel's occupation of Jerusalem'."

Combining and updating two previous Rapture Watch messages
'Holy Rome Returns to Jerusalem' and 'The Covenant' we will
share a fateful picture for those opposing the God breathed
destiny of His chosen children of Israel.

Throughout Christian history, a large number of prophecy
teachers have recognized that the dominating false world
religion and government prophesied of in Revelation Chapter
17 for these last days would come forth from the old
Babylonian and Roman Empires. Details for the full scope
of the prophecies which develop the composite picture of
this political religious power are scattered throughout the
Bible.

We have dealt in the past with the fact that this
partnership described in greater detail in Revelation 13
will reach its zenith, during the establishment of a seven
year covenant with Israel and her neighbors. (Daniel
9:27.) Prophecy and current events overwhelmingly support
that the present day European Union, which originated in
Rome, Italy, with the signing of the Treaty of Rome, is
indeed the promised restored Roman Empire, which will bring
forth in Israel the last day's beastly world dictator
called the Anti-Christ. (Daniel 11:45, John 2:18.) It is
also just as evident to us for the same reason that the
Roman Catholic Church is in truth a major endtime
forerunner of the ghastly Babylonian harlot religion, which
will unite in full power with the European Union in its
final push for world dominion.

Her purpose at present remains the same as when she
assumed the authority and power of the decaying historic
Roman Empire within her courts. That is to unite apostate
Christianity and pagan religions together in preparation
for allegiance to the restored endtime Roman Empire,
through their common roots found in the Babylonian mystery
religion. She is a bishop on the last day's chessboard ,
but she remains a disposable piece all the same.

To understand the overwhelming and exhaustive amount of
evidence that the Babylonian religion continues on in the
Catholic Church one only needs to check out Alexander
Hislop 's 'The Two Babylons' from their local library. The
Babylonian trail leading to Rome is dramatic to say the
least, when reviewing the history of the "holy" Roman Empire.

We have shared in the past that if this position is the
correct one then certain developments would need to take
place.

1. The rise of the pope's global political power: Many
people are not aware that the pope commands his own chair
in the United Nations, which is marked "The Holy See".

2. The pope's involvement with the European Union: Pope
John Paul II has stated that his intention is "to unite
Europe under the historical Christianity of old" - remember
the Dark Ages. (See Revelation 17:6.)

3. The pope opening dialogue with the Jews in preparation
for establishing himself as the supreme religious ruler of
the Holy Land and to position Roman Catholicism as the
harlot religion, which will be carried for approximately
three-and-one-half years by the beastly king who will one
day soon dominate the region. (Revelation 17:7.)

Current events continue to confirm the position that a
European Babylonian/Roman alliance will one day soon rule
from out of Jerusalem in these last days.

The September 19, 1993 edition of the Denver Post which
headlined, "Accord may hasten papal visit to Holy Land"
reported that, "The peace agreement signed by the Israelis
and Palestinians...will hasten a long-discussed papal visit
to the Holy Land...the accord will lead to Vatican
jurisdiction over part of the city that is holy to Muslims,
Jews and Christians...Only in July 1992, did Israel and the
Vatican establish a formal commission to negotiate
diplomatic ties."

The Arabic News of October 16, 1999, clearly revealed that
a global religion is on the immediate horizon and that the
Roman Catholic Church continues to establish itself as a
leader in this Anti-Christ endeavor. The article titled,
"Vatican hosts international meeting on inter-religions
dialogue" reported that, "The Vatican will host on October
24-28 an international meeting on dialogue between
religions...The encounter, to be attended by more than 200
representatives of 50 countries, seeks to "consolidate
inter-religious dialogue for a future peace and solidarity
among all humankind"...The encounter will be crowned with a
final declaration."

The Israel Wire report of October 28, 1999, which
headlined, "Interfaith peace conference to explore role of
religion in promoting peace in millennium" reported that:
A third conference of religions is to be held in Israel on
November 21-23. The lengthy list of participants included
such prominent individuals as the Vatican's official
representative, the Dalai Lama, the world leader of the
Nakshabandi Sufi, and the former president of the Union of
Churches in Britain.

It must be kept in mind that according to Revelation 17:15-
18, the great city of the harlot will be destroyed sometime
at the end of the first three-and-one-half years of the
Tribulation Period. The final form of Satan's religion
which will rise to prominence after this point will be the
deadliest of all and will be the system that demands that
the world worship the Anti-Christ through the authority of
the second beast known as the false prophet. (Revelation
13:11-15, 19:20.)

We must also keep in mind that the Anti-Christ and his
followers do not hate religion, as a whole, since it is
essential to their final demand for worship - they just
hate having to continue to carry this particular religion,
which will have served its limited purpose.

In order to effectively consider leading candidates for
what religious system might exist in the world today that
could more specifically fulfill the role of the last days
religion of the Anti-Christ, we can only add up God's
prophetic clues. We are convinced by prophecy that the
belief system, which will overshadow the false religions of
the earth during the closing hours of this age, will
originate from out of Europe. Also it will display a
perverted form of Christianity and will have at its core
the belief that it is the worship system, which is destined
to produce its own messiah in replacement of Jesus Christ.

Then lastly, its belief system's roots must go back to
ancient times of spiritualism and mysticism. At present
the primary candidate seen with these credentials is the
pagan Celtic Church of the British Isles. The roots of
Celtic paganism are deeply entrenched in this church, which
is growing in power and prestige at a phenomenal rate at
the start of this new millennium. Prominent writers are
urging the people of Europe to return to their Celtic roots
in order to foster reconciliation between the Celtic
peoples. A book published in London titled 'Rediscovering
the Celts'1 pointed out the importance attached to
Europeans recognizing that the growing reunification of
Europe is not only connected with Celtic history but also
with its beliefs.

The Celtic Church has been prevalent throughout the
history of Scotland, and it is Scotland who has taken the
lead in plans to issue identity cards to its people as is
indicative of the prophesied role of the Anti-Christ in
accruing data to control people (Revelation 13:16-18).
According to the Daily Record of November 29, 1999, "Scots
are to be issued with identity cards in a controversial
move by the government...The cards - called Personal
Passports - would contain details of the holder's age as
well as medical and driving records..."

It is of interest to note, that when Pope John Paul II
spoke at the Interfaith Conference with Jewish and Muslim
religious leaders on March 23, 2000 at the Vatican owned
Notre Dame Institute, symbols of the Rampant Lion were
conspicuously seen displayed behind him. The Scottish
Royal Standard also displays the Rampant Lion, which was
originally the emblem of William the Lion in the 12th
century, during the years when Scotland was independent.
Although the Rampant Lion (a heraldic animal rearing upon
its hind legs with forelegs extended) is displayed on the
flag of the City of Jerusalem. heraldry only emerged in
Europe some hundred or so years after the Norman Conquest
of England in 1066.2

On the Scottish national identity card, we find the
Rampant Lion imprinted along with the mythological unicorn.
The Rampant Lion and the unicorn are also to be found on
the Royal Arms Great Seal of Scotland and the British Coat
of Arms. It should be kept in mind, that Scotland's Royal
House of Stuart were known as the 'House of Unicorns' and
that the unicorn did not appear on any of the English
monarch's Coat of Arms until James I who was also James VI
of Scotland, came to the English Throne. An insightful
article exposing the symbolism of the unicorn was shared by
Albert James Dager in a 1989 Media Spotlight Special Report
titled 'The Unicorn Fabled Beast of Myth & Magic'.

The symbol of the lion is biblically associated with the
Messiah of Israel Jesus Christ and the tribe of Judah
(Revelation 5:5). The lion connection between Scotland and
Israel finds its roots in the anti-Semitic belief known as
"British Israelism". This belief was promoted by HRH
Prince Michael of Albany, Head of the Royal House of
Stewart when he stated, "the Royal House of Scotland...its
roots can be traced back to the Jewish kings of Judah."3
Prince Michael's recognition as an authority is backed by
his claim that on November 4, 1985, under International Law
his titles were verified as legitimate titular claimant to
the Throne of Scots, legal Pretender to the Throne of
Britain and that the President of the International
Parliament (Mediterranean Security), endorsed by the United
Nations, ratified his legal right as Head of the Celtic
Church of the Sacred Kindred of Saint Columba.4

The connections strengthen, when one is shown the
additional recognized titles of a possible future king from
the Royal House of Stewart which are Knight Grand Officer
of the Supreme Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem
(S.M.O.T.J. is a modern-day order of the Knight Templars),
Knight Grand Commander of the Chivalric Military Order of
the Temple of Jerusalem and Prince of Jerusalem.5 Daniel
9:26 may be significant to ponder regarding the specific
title from the House of Stewart of Prince of Jerusalem,
when considering the Anti-Christ's prophesied role as the
"prince who is to come". Of additional interest is that
Prince Michael also claims to be the President of the
European Council of Princes.6

The occult and Roman Catholic mixture thickens when we are
made aware that Prince Michael Stewart also claims to be
the 57th Archpriest and Temporal Head of Scotland's ancient
Druidic-Christian Church of the Culdees and that Polish
born Pope John Paul II acknowledged his right to the Polish
Crown (Prince Michael also claims to hold the title of
Prince of Poland) and invoked God's abundant blessings upon
this leader of the Celtic Church and the Knight Templars.7
With Prince Michael's revered title as Head of the Celtic
Church of the Sacred Kindred of Saint Columba, it should be
noted that Saint Columba's own motto proclaimed "Christ is
my Druid".

The European Union and this false Christianity fit
together like a hand in a glove, and we are persuaded that
in the very near future they will form the fist of the Anti-
Christ. It is this fist which is forming as the E.U. that
takes an ever growing stand against Israel's divine right
to all of the land that God has promised to the seed of
Abraham through Isaac.

One point is continually stressed by the world concerning
the attaining of peace in the Middle East, and that is that
Israel must give up it's land to survive. The question
which needs to be answered is, "Why does world peace
depend upon a country no bigger than Rhode Island giving up
it's minuscule portion of land to no less than three
countries and a newly forming nation?" This does not
include the other entities vying for control over
Jerusalem, Israel's capital. The answer is of profound
spiritual importance.

There is something unique beyond words found in Genesis
Chapter 15. It is a spectacular, awesome, unretractable
covenant. So solemn is this vow, God did something
unprecedented in Bible history, He made an eternal covenant
with a particular nation and then bound Himself to fulfill
it with the most solemn of oaths to be found upon the earth.

After promising Abraham that his descendants would inherit
the land now known as Israel in Genesis 12:7, 13:15 and
15:7, God then subjected Himself to the oath of this
covenant as recorded in Genesis 15:8-18. In those days
when men made this oath they would cut animals in two as a
sacrificial offering and would then make their covenant one
to another as they walked together between the sacrifices.
The meaning was that should one of the men break their
covenant with the other then they would be torn apart like
animals. So holy was this oath, that God could not
participate in this action with any mortal man. So instead
of making this oath with Abraham, God walked between the
sacrifices with Himself in the form of a smoking oven, and
a burning torch, as is recorded in verses 17 through 18.

Failure of this covenant by any man and their then
required destruction is impossible because this is an oath
solely made between God and Himself. Included in this
promise from God is that the descendants of Abraham through
Isaac and Jacob are to inherit the land "from the river of
Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates" (Genesis
15:18), and that they are to inherit this land "forever"
(Genesis 13:15). No man, whether he be an Arab, an
American, a European, or even a Jew, can stop this prophecy
from being fulfilled. Those who try are at odds with the
most solemn of oaths made by a Holy God with Himself. Any
man who comes against the nation of Israel is in defiance
of God and His will, and this is why God has declared to
Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3:

"I will make you a great nation; I will bless you...I will
bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses
you;..."

In closing it is fascinating to note that God's solemn
covenant with Israel is for her to inherit the land while
all the peace agreements being forged demands that she give
up the land! Some teach that Jesus Christ broke God's
covenant with Israel during His first coming due to
Israel's failure to receive Him. This is absurd since the
covenant God made with Israel is unconditional and
unbreakable by God's own oath--man had no part in it
precisely so that the covenant could never fail. It is a
certainty that the covenant of Daniel 9:27, which will be
confirmed, then broken with Israel by the Anti-Christ, will
involve the land of Israel and her covenant relationship
with God the Father of their Messiah Jesus Christ.

At present, but not for very much longer, God is preparing
another land of inheritance. It is the land of His Glory
in heaven where the blood washed believers in His Son Jesus
Christ will soon rest from their labors and will forever
call their home. Not very far down the road less traveled
the faithful who look to the Son of God for their salvation
will hear the heavenly trumpet. The rugged path they once
traveled will be abandoned and the doors of eternal glory
will be opened to receive them when they are caught up to
Jesus at the event known as the Rapture (I Thessalonians
4:15-18). And for this they "confessed that they were
strangers and pilgrims on the earth" (Hebrews 11:13),
because Jesus has told them, "...I go to prepare a place
for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am,
there you may be also." (John 14:2-3). Put your faith for
the forgiveness of your sins in the atoning blood sacrifice
of Jesus Christ this day, before it is too late.

Like blood pulsing in an artery, newly discovered currents
of gas beat deep inside the Sun, speeding and slackening
every 16 months.

The solar "heartbeat" throbs in the same region of the Sun
suspected of driving the 11-year cycle of solar eruptions,
during which the Sun goes from stormy to quiet and back
again. Scientists are hopeful that this pulse can help them
unravel the origin and operation of the solar cycle.

The discovery comes from an international team pooling
observations from the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI)
instrument on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO)
spacecraft and from a worldwide chain of ground stations
called the Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG). Dr.
Rachel Howe of the National Science Foundation's National
Solar Observatory in Tucson, AZ, and her colleagues
announce their results in the March 31 issue of the journal
Science.

"We are excited to see the first evidence of changes close
to the location of the solar dynamo, the region that
generates the Sun's large-scale magnetic field and is
believed to drive the solar cycle," says lead author Howe.
"It's very surprising to find that the changes have such a
short period -- 16 months or so rather than the 11 years of
the solar cycle."

30 March 2000 (Newsroom) -- A communique issued by
Anglican primates meeting in Portugal this past week is
evoking a mixture of responses from church leaders who
hoped for decisive action on issues that have fractured the
church's American branch. The heads of the 38 provinces of
the 70 million-strong worldwide communion completed their
biannual meeting on Thursday.

Rwandan archbishop Emmanuel Kolini, who officiated at a
controversial ordination in Singapore two months ago,
pointed out that the communique upholds the communion's
1998 Lambeth resolution stating that homosexuality is
"incompatible with Scripture." Kolini said in an interview
with Anglican journalist David Virtue that the communique
underscores the expectation that the resolution will be
enforced.

One conservative activist, however, who chose not to be
named, told Virtue that the statement "could have been
worse, but was unusually bad." Another acknowledged that
the statement might strike many as "rather weak," but said
that "with careful exegesis significant teeth can be
found." The primates said that disagreements over
homosexuality "do not amount to a complete and definitive
rupture of communion," but asserted that dioceses that have
conducted same-sex unions and ordained non-celibate
homosexuals in defiance of the 1998 Lambeth resolution
"have threatened the unity of the communion in a profound
way."

Some dioceses and parishes in the American branch, the
Episcopal Church in the U.S.A. (ECUSA), have voted to
reject the Lambeth resolution. Many of the church's
conservative leaders had hoped that at the Portugal summit
the primates would enforce the resolution by establishing
specific requirements and deadlines for the ECUSA to
comply. The non-conforming dioceses were urged by the
primates this week to consider "the expressions of pain,
anger and perplexity from other parts of the communion"
that their actions have provoked. The primates also,
however, pointed to the Lambeth resolution's call "to
listen to the experience of homosexuals in the church" and
engage in a "careful, patient and pastoral process" that
does not demonize those who disagree.

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) -- Russia and four Central Asian states
began military exercises simulating battles with rebels on Wednesday,
a defense ministry spokesman said.

The Southern Shield-2000 exercises will involve one company from each
country's army and are intended to improve cooperation and help
Central Asian countries and Russia repel potential attacks from
militants who live in the mountain areas on these states' borders, the
spokesman said.

Russia is currently battling Islamic militants in Chechnya, and
Kyrgyzstan repelled a minor incursion from a militant band based in
Tajikistan last fall.

Troops from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakstan and Russia
were practicing at Uzbekistan's Termez garrison, about 300 kilometers
(180 miles) south of the capital Tashkent. The exercises are expected
to last 10 days.

Second Big Iceberg Breaks Off From Antarctica

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A second giant iceberg has broken off from
Antarctica and is bumping into a huge iceberg that broke off the Ross
Ice Shelf last week, researchers said on Friday.

Matthew Lazzara of the University of Wisconsin's Antarctic
Meteorological Research Center found the latest iceberg, which will be
named B-17, while scanning images taken from a satellite orbiting the
poles.

He said the new iceberg lies to the north and east of Roosevelt Island
and is 80 miles by 12 miles (130 km by 20 km). The larger iceberg is
183 miles by 23 miles (295 km by 37 km), roughly the size of Jamaica.

"The high-resolution satellite data that we receive enables us to
track these bergs easily, at least in clear conditions," Lazzara said
in a statement.

The images show the two giant icebergs, and a third, smaller one known
as B-16, jostling one another just off the island.

The researchers said it was not yet clear if the icebergs would pose a
threat to shipping.

Researchers say large chunks are breaking off of Antarctica for
several reasons, some due to global warming.

They say, for example, that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet has been
steadily melting since the end of the last ice age. But they also
stress that human-induced global warming can speed the process.

Much of Antarctica consists of ice sheets with no ground underneath.
If it shrinks, the process could not only help raise ocean levels but
could help shift ocean circulation and weather patterns, bringing
drought, severe storms and the wider spread of tropical diseases.

The largest iceberg ever reported was seen in 1956 and was 60 miles
wide and 208 miles long (95.6 km by 335 km), or 12,000 square miles
(48,564 sq km) in area, more than twice the size of the state of
Connecticut.

Senators Call On FCC To
Investigate Objectionable TV

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CNS -- On the heels of a report showing that sexual
content, violence and obscene language on television has risen
dramatically over the past ten years legislators on Capitol Hill are
calling for the Federal Communications Committee to hold hearings on
whether television broadcasters are serving the public interest.

"Nobody wants to prescribe legislation but its time that the FCC can
play mediator in determining whether smutty television is good for our
country and our children," Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) told
CNSNews.com Thursday on Capitol Hill.

Lieberman's comments came as the Parents Television Council, a group
that is demanding that Hollywood restore decency to television's "family
hour," released a report showing that sex, violence and harsh language
on television has more than tripled in the past decade.

Both the PTC and CNSNews.com are subsidiaries of the Media Research
Center.

"I'm a great believer in the first amendment," said Lieberman. "I hope
we can appeal to the people in the entertainment industry to voluntarily
make changes to their programming."

Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) who along with Lieberman is on the
advisory board of the PTC, echoed his colleague's comments in an
interview with CNSNews.com.

"We are finding that at the top of every poll about what Americans think
is important is moral values," said Brownback. "There is a public
interest standard for operating on the public airwaves and it is time
the FCC looked into whether broadcasters are meeting that standard."

Lieberman and Brownback joined PTC Chairman L. Brent Bozell III and
national PTC chairman and entertainment veteran Steve Allen in unveiling
the group's latest study "What a Difference a Decade Makes: A Comparison
of Prime Time Sex, Language and Violence in 1989 and 1999."

Among the study's findings are the fact that sexual material tripled in
the decade studied; references to genitalia increased seven fold;
homosexual references increased 24 fold; and foul language was not only
heard five and one half times more frequently but increased in
harshness.

The study is based on the comparison of four similar weeks of prime time
network programming from 1999 and 1989.

In response to allegations that the increase in objectionable material
on TV was driven by consumer demand Allen told reporters that "there is
an importance to getting these kindergarten level questions of right and
wrong settled...there is an audience for hideous fare but that does not
settle the issue of right and wrong."

Allen called for parents who are concerned about objectionable content
on TV to "raise hell, very outspokenly and continually, or things are
going to get worse."

Lieberman said that increases in sexual activity among America's
children demonstrated how important it is for programmers not to portray
"sexual behavior as just a joke, just another form of recreational
behavior." Bozell told reporters that parental anger about television
content represents a potential winning campaign issue for whatever party
takes it up.

"This issue has tremendous political traction for the party that takes
it up," said Bozell. "In 1996 Bob Dole gave one speech on this issue and
then looked for a place to hide, but polling found that 76 percent of
the public approved of his message."

Brownback and Lieberman announced that Senate Commerce Committee
would hold hearings in late April on objectionable television
programming and invited industry entertainment leaders to testify.

"Every time we hold hearings we invite them to come but every time they
decline," said Brownback. "We hope this time will be different."

The Cosmic Dance

"Every event that takes place in the terrestrial world is designated to
a particular star…every human being is subjugated to this law. Whatever
happens to him is a result of this influence" (The Way of God by Rabbi
Moshe Chaim Luzzatto)

Astrology is the science of cycles; it views life in terms of seasons,
time and purpose. In Kabbalistic Astrology, the stars are not seen as
the cause of the divine influence but as the messengers or transmitters
of God's will. Since we as humans sometimes suffer from "spiritual
short-sightedness" we need bigger-than-life monitors to help us
understand life. God, being aware of our little handicap, created the
heavenly bodies that orbit around the Sun with us, partners in an
endless cosmic dance. The stars are like gigantic computer monitors –
they are not the computer, nor are they the program; they are merely the
spiritual screen that reflects our true nature back to us.

We are approaching a very auspicious date – the fifth of May 2000. That
day is crowned by a very rare energetic phenomenon: Seven of the ten
planets in our Solar system will align in the same sign, Taurus. Let me
try to impress you with numbers: this planetary alignment will not
happen again until the year 2675! So we better be prepared because
"what-ever happens…is a result of this astrological influence…." (See
quotation above).

On May 5th, 2000, the seven inner planets – which are the most
important: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn – will
all be in conjunction.

What does that mean? Well, let's look into it. The first thing a
conjunction indicates is union, the molding of different energies into a
new force. On May 5th, seven planets that can choose to be anywhere in
the 360 degrees of the zodiac wheel prefer to squeeze together in a tiny
slice of 26 degrees. Think about it, it is as if the stars are telling
us, "Hey, humans, if we, the great bodies of heaven, can all fit into a
26 degree wide segment of the skies, you can learn to live together on
Earth. If we as great planets can learn to share space, you can do the
same."

The second thing these celestial transmitters teach us is to read
between the lines, something the Torah also teaches us. We are used to
thinking of numbers as little digits that measure quantity. We use
numbers to count things. For example; this article has 891 words,
Solomon had 1000 wives, etc. But according to the Kabbalah and the
science of Gematriah, numbers also describe a certain hidden quality.
Number one is the energy of leadership, initiation, unity. Number two
describes the quality of duality, relationship, doubts and confusion,
and so on. Number 26, the number of degrees the planets will share on
the fifth of May, is a very important number. It is the Gematric value
of the unpronounceable "Name" of God, the Tetragrammaton. Yod, Hey, Vav,
Hey are the letters of the "Name"; these letters form the root to three
words in Hebrew: HAYA – that which was (past), HOVE – that which is
(present) and YHEYE – that which shall be (future). The "Name" shows us
that the true meaning of divinity is beyond time, God being the unity of
past, present and future. 26 is also eight because 2+6 equals eight.
Eight is the only number you don't have to lift your pen from the paper
to write endless times. In math they use the digit eight lying sideways
as the symbol for infinity. The seven planets are transmitting the
concept of unity in relation to the infinite power of God; all is one
and one is all, and that is the only way to realize infinity with our
finite minds. That's not all. Astrology combined with Kabbalah is a
never-ending story of symbols and synchronicities. Bear with me, as we
boldly go where no man has gone before….

Thirteen times two is 26. We all know this, but what are the hidden
qualities of this spiritual equation? Well, 13 is the value of the
Hebrew word EChaD – One. Unity again! But even more beautiful is the
fact that AHaVaH – love – is also 13. Put these two words together – The
Love of the One – and the appreciation of the unity of the creation
leads us to the true name of God and infinity.

What about Taurus? According to the old Kabbalistic text – "Sefer
Yetzirah" or the "Book of Creation" – the sign for Taurus is connected
to the energy of the Hebrew letter Vav, "a nail". The earthly energy of
Taurus serves to nail and yoke things together, uniting separated
entities into one. Once again – unity!

Now let's get practical. We all have to be extra careful with greed,
possessiveness and jealousy. These are the dark sides of the energy of
Taurus. It is a good time for charity and community work. During the
next few months try to give just as much as you receive. Just as in
business you have to spend money to make money, as above so below, you
have to first give Light so that you can receive Light later on. Watch
out for your throat. Taurus rules the throat and neck: Don't hold back
the truth, say what is in your heart. Be creative. Taurus is the sign of
art and music. Listen to the music, and try to hear the celestial
symphony that is always lingering in the skies and than in May is going
to be louder then ever. Whatever you do, remember to enjoy the dance.
