SODOM AND GOMORRAH ARE 'FOUND AT BOTTOM OF DEAD SEA' A
Bible scholar believes that he has found the ruins of Sodom
and Gomorrah, the evil cities destroyed by God with fire
and brimstone, after leading the first expedition to
explore the bottom of the Dead Sea. Michael Sanders and an
international team of researchers discovered what appear to
be the salt-encrusted remains of ancient settlements on the
seabed after several fraught weeks diving in a mini
submarine. Mr Sanders, a Briton who is now based in the
United States, said yesterday that he was "immensely
excited" about the find, and he is already planning a
follow-up expedition. He said: "The evidence cannot be
ignored. I predicted there must be something extraordinary
there and, lo and behold, there was. What we found matches
exactly what the remains of an ancient city might look
like."

Dr John Whitaker, a geologist from Leicester University
and the former editor of Geology Today, said yesterday that
the new development - which will be unveiled in a
television documentary tomorrow - appeared "very
significant". He said: "There is a good chance that these
mounds are covering up brick structures and are one of the
lost cities of the plains, possibly even Sodom or Gomorrah,
though I would have to examine the evidence. These Bible
stories were handed down by word of mouth from generation
to generation before they were written down, and there
seems to be a great deal in this one."

God's destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah to punish the
sexual immorality of their inhabitants is one of the most
graphic episodes in the Old Testament. Genesis says that
"the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and
fire out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all
the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that
which grew upon the ground". Many archaeologists and
scholars have concluded that the story was symbolic, a
warning to erring humans of the divine punishment they
faced for wickedness. But there has been speculation for
centuries that the cities existed in the region of the Dead
Sea. A growing number of experts, including Mr Sanders, are
now convinced that "the cities of the plain" were destroyed
by an earthquake, which threw up flaming pitch, about 5,000
years ago.

Since the 1960s, archaeologists have discovered mass
graves on a peninsula jutting into the Dead Sea which
contain human bones dating from the Old Testament period.
And sulphur, or brimstone, have been found in nearby
cliffs, adding to the mystery.

GREENBELT, Maryland (CNN) -- After nearly nine years in space, a 35,000-
pound NASA observatory in low-Earth orbit is destined for a fiery descent
this June into the Pacific Ocean southeast of Hawaii.

Sources tell CNN that during a meeting Thursday morning at NASA
headquarters in Washington, senior managers at the space agency made
the decision to send the $600 million Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory to a
watery grave in the Pacific on June 3.

NASA confirmed the decision at a Friday news conference.

"It has been a terrific mission; We have certainly gotten everything -- and
more -- that we expected out of GRO," said Preston Burch, deputy program
manager for space science operations at NASA's Goddard Space Flight
Center. "Now is the time to bring it back safely."

In early December, the observatory lost one of its gyroscope systems,
leaving it with the minimum of two required to conduct scientific observations.
 

Engineers believe they cannot safely de-orbit the satellite unless both gyros
remain operative, leaving the observatory with only one failure away from
becoming a possible space-debris hazard. Scientists say they are also
concerned about the operability of other critical systems on the satellite.

"It is an old satellite and some systems are failing," Burch said. "A major
failure in a critical subsystem could hinder our ability to bring it down in a
controlled way."

According to estimates, the debris field will be 26 kilometers (16 miles) wide
by 1,552 kilometers (962 miles) long, putting 40,000 square kilometers
(24,800 square miles) of ocean in harm's way.

Engineers generated the estimate based on computer modeling of other
controlled re-entries -- such as the space shuttle's external fuel tank -- which
routinely fall harmlessly into the Indian Ocean following launches.

"We're very concerned about hitting any land areas that are populated,"
Burch said. "We are being extremely conservative in our planning. There is
plenty of margin of safety."

Launched from the space shuttle Atlantis on April 5, 1991, the Compton
Gamma-Ray Observatory was designed to orbit for at least two years and
gather information on electromagnetic radiation, providing insight into the
origins of the universe. While the scientific observations have continued -- a
recent set of results was released this week -- the staff and the funding are
currently very lean.

Compton is the heaviest unclassified satellite ever deployed by a space
shuttle. The Hubble Space Telescope, launched in April of 1990, weighs
about 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds) less than Compton, but is larger.

Unlike Hubble, Compton was not designed to be serviced by astronauts in its
270-mile orbit.

  MADISON, Wis. (Reuters) - An iceberg of near-record size --
  about twice as big in area as the state of Delaware -- is breaking
  off from Antarctica's Ross Ice Shelf and may soon be adrift, the
  University of Wisconsin said on Wednesday.

  The school's Antarctic Meteorological Research Center said
  polar satellites clearly show the fissures outlining the oblong
  chunk of ice 183 miles long and 22 miles wide.

  "This is a very big iceberg, close to a record if not a new record,"
  said Matthew Lazzara, a scientist at the center. "It's not often that
  you see them of this magnitude."

  The iceberg is much larger than one that broke away last
  October and posed a potential shipping hazard to vessels
  rounding Cape Horn. That chunk was 40 miles by 11 miles.

  The center said the new iceberg may soon be adrift in the Ross
  Sea but no information was available on how soon or whether it
  might pose a shipping hazard.

Mass. man gets cash for his soul on eBay

Kembrew McLeod sold his soul on the Internet and got $1,325 for a 4-ounce
piece.

McLeod, a 29-year-old communications instructor at the University of
Massachusetts at Amherst, didn't sell his soul to the devil, but close
enough. A New York real estate agent got McLeod's soul after a 10-day
bidding war on the Internet auction site run by eBay Inc. this week.

``The reason I've been selling my soul is to make money,'' McLeod
explained. ``In America, you can metaphorically and literally sell your soul
and be rewarded for it. That's what makes this country great. It's free
enterprise.''

McLeod's soul comes in a 4-ounce jar simply labeled ``Kembrew's soul.'' The
37-year-old buyer, who requested to be identified only as J.H., also gets a
deed to the soul. J.H. said he bought McLeod's soul in part because it
makes him feel like the devil.

But he also appreciates the soul's pop art design.

``He assured me there would be a good percentage of his soul in that 4-
ounce jar,'' J.H. said.

But maybe not.

McLeod has been selling his soul for the past 12 years.

He first sold his soul in high school to raise money for the senior prom - 100
``copies'' at $4.95 for each individually packaged piece in silk-screened
cereal boxes of his own design.

He changed the packaging in 1992, so it wouldn't go out of fashion.

``Car makers and clothing makers come out with new designs all the time,''
McLeod said. ``I thought my soul could use a new package, too.''

The recent auction on eBay generated 30 bids.

The Ministry of Taxation has revealed plans to introduce individual tax
numbers for every citizen. The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church says
the project is evil, for the bar code used by tax officials contains the fiendish
number, 666. The Synod has proposed that a national electronic language be
formed.

The Russian Orthodox Church understands that the system of tax collection
must be improved, but gathering information about individuals without their
consent breeches article 24 of the Russian Constitution. Although the clergy
does not oppose the existing passport, pension and conscription apparatus,
they suspect that the proposed tax collection system is harmful for the
common people.

Russia's Holy Synod has declared that, "many Christians revere their names
given them at baptism as holy and consider it undignified to be given new
numerical "names" by the government."

Some priests are saying that acquiring an Individual Taxpayer Number (ITN)
constitutes a sin, and unless believers repent, they would be denied Holy
Communion. Although the Synod disapproves of such statements, its main
concern is the symbols used in the new registration system, which has
already been introduced in some places. The pilot social welfare cards
feature three bar codes, each of which includes the number 6. Clergymen
believe the codes contain the number of the Antichrist, 666, mentioned in the
Apocalypse of St. John the Evangelist (13: 16-18). Having consulted with
experts, the prelates have concluded that there is no great necessity to use
these particular bars. Their conclusion is that "the authors of the global bar
code system, widely used today in statistics, trade and many other spheres,
have consciously or unconsciously chosen a symbol which is insulting and
disturbing to Christians. At the very least, it looks like an outrageous
mockery."

Orthodox prelates suggest that the government get rid of the "blasphemous"
symbol by "changing the international system of the symbols involved. If this
proves impossible, we must create an alternative national electronic
language".

As Russian citizens, another aspect worrying clergymen is that, "Soon
those who do not have a tax code or plastic card could be completely
deprived of social and even medical aid. If this happens, there will be every
reason to doubt the existence of equality and freedom of conscience, so
actively promoted by modern civilization. Therefore we insist on having an
alternative system of personal registration for social, medical, insurance and
other aid".

Tomorrow (Friday), Gazeta.Ru will find out whether the Minister of Taxation
Aleksandr Pochinok has been excommunicated for his blasphemous deeds.

A Demonstration Against the meeting Between the Pope and Arafat's Agents
On the Temple Mount

On the morning of 26th March, 2000, the Temple Mount and Land of Israel
Faithful Movement demonstrated against the meeting between the Pope and
the agents of the terrorist, Yasser Arafat, on the holy Temple Mount. The
demonstration was held on the lookout position on the steps leading down
from the Jewish Quarter to the Western Wall plaza. From there the Temple
Mount and the location of the temple are clearly seen. The demonstration
took place while the Pope was on the Temple Mount.

No Israeli officials were on the Temple Mount at this time even though the
sovereignty of this place is in the hands of Israel and despite the fact
that this mountain is the site of the First and Second Temples and is the
focus of the heart and soul of the Jewish People and is the place towards
which all the prayers of the Jewish People are directed. Three times a
day, Jewish prayers from all over the world are directed towards this
place with the continual prayer to G—d that the temple be rebuilt and that
Mashiach ben David will come to it. We could not accept this terrible
situation and abomination of such a meeting, especially after the Pope
signed a covenant with the terrorist, Arafat, in the Vatican before coming
for his visit to Israel and after he declared in a speech during his visit
in the Hebron area that the so-called "Palestinians" have aright to a
homeland in the land of Israel.

The message of the demonstration was firstly directed at the Israeli
Government to overcome their weakness and not to allow the meeting to take
place which implied the Popes recognition of "Palestinian" control of the
Temple Mount and ignored Israeli sovereignty and G—d's covenant giving
Israel the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and all the land of Israel to be His
house and to dwell together with Israel. Instead of this, the Israeli
Government preferred to meet and welcome the Pope at the Western Wall
which for hundreds of years was called the Wailing Wall because it
represents the exile, destruction and the great desire of the Jewish
People to return to the Temple Mount and to rebuild the temple. Now, after
G—d gave the Temple Mount back to Israel in a godly heroic war in 1967,
the Western Wall has finished its task and Israel should rebuild the
temple on the location of the First and Second Temple on the Temple Mount.
We know that the G—d of Israel and the Universe has not accepted a meeting
with the terrorists on the Temple Mount nor the meeting at the Western
Wall. The Pope should only meet the real owners of this place on the
Temple Mount.

Secondly the message was directed to the Pope himself saying that such a
meeting is evil in the eyes of G—d and a revolt against His Word and the
covenant that He made with Israel. We said that he knows very well that
this holy mountain was dedicated by G—d to be the place of His house and
not to continue the long foreign Arab occupation of the hill of G—d where
they built their pagan shrines and continue their pagan worship. We told
him that he cannot behave according to political interests but to listen
to the Word of G—d that was written to all the nations. We directed him to
Word of G—d in all the prophets and in the Torah where G—d commanded
Israel to dedicate this mountain just for His house and not allow any
foreign worship to take place there. We told him that the rebuilding of
the temple is a key event, not only in the life of Israel, but in the life
of all nations and the Word of G—d cannot be ignored. We directed him to
the Word of G—d in Isaiah 2:2-5 where G—d expressed His own deep desire to
again see His house rebuilt by Israel on the holy hill which He dedicated
for this and that he cannot ignore this clear Word of G—d which was given
to Israel and to all the nations as well when He spoke about the
end-times, the time in which we are now living. "And it shall come to pass
in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be
established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the
hills; and all nations shall flow to it. And many people shall go and say,
Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the
God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his
paths; for from Zion shall go forth Torah, and the word of the Lord from
Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall decide for many
people; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears
into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, nor
shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come, and let us walk in
the light of the Lord." (Is2:2-5) The most important commandment that G—d
gave Israel to fulfill when they came to the Promised Land was to build
His temple, especially at this great time of redemption in which Israel is
now living exactly as G—d pronounced it to Israel in Exodus: "And let them
make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them." (Ex25:8). The Pope
should know this Word of G—d and when he met the agents of the terrorist,
Arafat, on the Temple Mount he committed evil in the eyes of G—d.

Then our message to the Pope, and at the same time to all the nations, was
that Jerusalem was given to Israel to be the eternal capital of the chosen
nation of Israel and that G—d returned it to Israel in a miraculous war in
1967 to again be its eternal capital after 1900 year of destruction and a
deep desire to return to the city which, for thousands of years since King
David built it and made it the capital of Israel, was the heart, soul and
focus of Israel. We directed him to the many Scriptures where G—d gave
Jerusalem to Israel with such love like in Isaiah: "For Zion's sake will I
not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her
righteousness goes forth like radiance, and her salvation like a burning
torch. And the nations shall see your righteousness, and all kings your
glory; and you shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord
shall express. You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord,
and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. You shall no more be termed
Forsaken; nor shall your land any more be termed Desolate; but you shall
be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the Lord delights in you,
and your land shall be married. For as a young man marries a virgin, so
shall your sons marry you; and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
so shall your God rejoice over you. I have set watchmen upon your walls, O
Jerusalem, who shall never hold their peace day nor night; you who make
mention of the Lord, take no rest. And give him no rest, until he
establish, and until he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth. The Lord
has sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will
no more give your grain to be food for your enemies; and the sons of the
stranger shall not drink your wine, for which you have laboured; But those
who have gathered it shall eat it and praise the Lord; and those who have
brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my sanctuary. Go
through, go through the gates; prepare the way of the people; build up,
build up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the
people. Behold, the Lord has proclaimed to the end of the world, Say to
the daughter of Zion, Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is
with him, and his wages before him. And they shall call them, The holy
people, The redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called, Sought out, A
city not forsaken." (Is62:1-12)

Our message to the Pope was very clear that this covenant with the
terrorist, Arafat, to make Jerusalem and international city or recognise
so-called "Palestinian' sovereignty over the city will not and cannot
stand as G—d will destroy it. We warned him of the judgement of G—d as He
stated it so clearly in the ears of all the nations in Zechariah: "The
burden of the word of the Lord concerning Israel, says the Lord, who
stretches out the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms
the spirit of man inside him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of
reeling to all the people around, and it shall also be against Judah in
the siege against Jerusalem. And on that day I will make Jerusalem a
burdensome stone for all the peoples; all who burden themselves with it
shall be grievously hurt. And all the peoples of the earth shall be
gathered together against it. On that day, says the Lord, I will strike
every horse with panic, and its rider with madness; and I will open my
eyes upon the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the nations
with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The
inhabitants of Jerusalem are my strength through the Lord of hosts their
God. On that day I will make the governors of Judah like a hearth of fire
among trees, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour
all the peoples around, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem
shall be inhabited again in her own place, in Jerusalem. And the Lord
shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David
and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves
against Judah. On that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of
Jerusalem; and he who is feeble among them shall be as David on that day;
and the house of David shall be like a divine being, like the angel of the
Lord before them. And it shall come to pass on that day, that I will seek
to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour
upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit
of grace and of supplication; and they shall look towards me, regarding
those whom the nations have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one
mourns for an only son, and shall be in bitterness over him, as one who is
in bitterness for his firstborn." (Zech12:1-10)

Our message to the Pope about the land of Israel was very clear that no
agreement that he will make with the Arab enemies of Israel concerning the
land of Israel or, as he called it, the homeland for the so-called
"Palestinians" in the land of Israel can work and will not stand as G—d
will not allow it. We directed the Pope to the Word of G—d in Genesis when
He made the covenant with Abraham and his seed, Israel: "And it came to
pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking
furnace, and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. In the same
day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed have I given
this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river
Euphrates; The Kenites, and the Kenazites, and the Kadmonites, And the
Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Raphaim, And the Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites." (Gen15:17-21) "And I
will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you in
their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to
your seed after you. And I will give to you, and to your seed after you,
the land where you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an
everlasting possession; and I will be their God. And God said to Abraham,
You shall keep my covenant therefore, you, and your seed after you in
their generations." (Gen17:7-9)

We called on the Pope to read the Word of G—d in Ezekiel where He speaks
to Israel and all the nations with such love and devotion about the
redemption of the people of Israel and the rebirth of the nation and the
State in the end-times, the times in which we are now living, and He will
bring them back to the land and rebuild and cause it to bloom and He will
show them that His covenant and promises are eternal and He is faithful to
His beloved people, Israel. "For I will take you from among the nations,
and gather you from all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
.. And the desolate land shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation
that was in the sight of all who passed by. And they shall say, This land
that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and
desolate and ruined cities have become fortified, and are inhabited. Then
the nations that are left around you shall know that I, the Lord, have
rebuilt the ruined places, and have replanted that which was desolate; I,
the Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it. Thus says the Lord God: This
also I will let the house of Israel, ask me to do for them; I will
increase their men like a flock. Like the flock of sacrifices, like the
flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts, shall the ruined cities be filled
with flocks of men; and they shall know that I am the Lord. The hand of
the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the wind of the Lord, and set
me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, And he led me
around among them; and, behold, there were very many in the open valley;
and, behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, Son of man, can these
bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, you know. And he said to me,
Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O you dry bones, hear the word
of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones; Behold, I will cause
breath to enter into you, and you shall live; And I will lay sinews upon
you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put
breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the Lord.
And I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a
noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to its
bone. And as I beheld, behold, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them,
and the skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them. And he
said to me, Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the
breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and
breathe upon these slain, that they may live. And I prophesied as he
commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up
upon their feet, a very large army. Then he said to me, son of man, these
bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, Our bones are
dried, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off. Therefore prophesy and
say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, O my people, I will open your
graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into
the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have
opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up from your graves, And
I shall put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall place you in
your own land; then shall you know that I, the Lord, have spoken it, and
performed it, says the Lord." (Ez36:24;36:34-37:14)

This demonstration was a clear word of G—d to Israel, the Pope and all the
nations. It was covered by the Israeli and international media who were
eager to hear this clear message, the real message of the G—d and people
of Israel. It ended with the reading and praying of the Word of G—d in
Psalm 79and blowing a shofar which was heard very clearly all over the
Temple Mount, the hill of G—d and was directed against all the enemies of
Israel who today want to again steal the Temple Mount, Jerusalem and the
promised land from Israel. "A Psalm of Asaph. O God, nations have come
into your inheritance; your holy temple have they defiled; they have laid
Jerusalem on heaps. The dead bodies of your servants have they given to be
food to the birds of the sky, the flesh of your pious ones to the beasts
of the earth. Their blood have they shed like water around Jerusalem; and
there was none to bury them. We have become a taunt to our neighbours, a
scorn and derision to those who are around us. How long, Lord? Will you be
angry for ever? Shall your jealousy burn like fire? Pour out your wrath on
the nations that have not known you, and on the kingdoms that have not
called upon your name. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his
dwelling place. O do not remember against us our former iniquities; let
your tender mercies speedily come to meet us; for we are brought very low.
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; and save us,
and forgive our sins, for your name's sake. Why should the nations say,
Where is their God? Let the revenging of the blood of your servants which
is shed be made manifest among the nations, and before our eyes. Let the
groans of the prisoner come before you; according to the greatness of your
power preserve those who are appointed to die; And render to our
neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their insult, with which they have
insulted you, O Lord. So we your people and sheep of your pasture will
give you thanks for ever; we will tell your praise to all generations."
(Psalm 79)
