Subject: Temple Mount Update

This item appears in todays Jerusalem Post:

A-G promises to help preserve antiquities - Leaders of the Committee
Against Destruction of Antiquities on the Temple Mount met yesterday with
Attorney-General Elyakim Rubinstein, who promised to do everything within
his power to prevent the destruction of antiquities.

The meeting came less than 48 hours after the committee sent an urgent
letter to Prime Minister Ehud Barak asking him to stop any further Wakf
construction on the Temple Mount.

Reserve Maj-Gen. Meir Dagan, who served as counter-terrorism advisor to
both Barak and former prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and who was one
of the signatories to the letter, said that “the argument that any action
taken to prevent illegal construction from being carried out will ignite
the Moslems is simply nonsense.”

Scientists aim to take sting out of death
Date: 26/06/2000

The experts are predicting technologies that will let us reverse the aging
process and replace body parts. Gerard Ryle reports from a conference on
the future of medicine.

..

ALCOR lists 12 Australians among its about 500 living members worldwide.
All, including Mr Drexler himself, have made arrangements to have their
bodies frozen and taken to Arizona after they die.

Alcor's spokesman and immediate past president, Stephen Bridge, said
almost half of the 150 people who attended the conference a week ago were
Alcor members.

"Alcor is not just about placing people into suspended animation to bring
them back in the future," he said. "It is partly about extending human
life, trying to prevent death, or at least delay it as long as possible.

"I don't know about using the word 'cheat' when we talk of death. That is
a common phrase, but it sort of implies that some higher force demands
that we die and that if we don't we are somehow cheating, we are not
playing fair.

"But I think that all the progress in medicine and the history of the
human race has been to live longer and healthier, and I don't know why
using our intelligence for that should be thought of as cheating."

GAY PRIDE MARKED WITH COAST-TO-COAST PARADES
A rollicking gay pride parade replete with dancing "nuns," all-male
cheerleading squads and drag queens in stilettos attracted a half
million revelers as it made its way from the waterfront to City Hall.

As David Ellard watched the procession in the city's 30th annual
Lesbian
Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Parade, he said such demonstrations
provide "a little light of hope."

ARAFAT REPEATS THREATS OF VIOLENCE
PLO Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat on Sunday threatened that if
his demands were not met, a renewed Intifada would result, with an
unprecedented intensity. Arafat, who orchestrated the May Nakba
warfare throughout Yesha according to senior intelligence community
officials, has indicated that if Israel does not implement a
comprehensive land withdrawal soon, he will try to take the areas by
force. http://www.virtualholyland.com/channels/israel_n/is_wire.htm

RADIOCARBON DATING CHALLENGED BY FOSSIL WOOD
For most people, the discovery of fossilised wood in a quarry would
not
be newsworthy. However, some pieces recently found embedded in
limestone
alongside some well-known 'index' fossils for the ‘Jurassic period´
(supposedly 142-205.7 million years ago) have proved highly
significant.

VATICAN INSISTS FATIMA IS NO DOOMSDAY PROPHESY
The "third secret" of Fatima is no doomsday prophecy as many have
feared, the Vatican insisted on Monday, but can be read as a
message of encouragement that humanity can save itself, including
from such apocalyptic scenarios as nuclear disaster.

'JESUS' DOCUMENTARY PROMOTES 'JESUS SEMINAR' THEOLOGY
An ABC documentary on the life of Jesus amounts to little more than an
advertisement for the controversial Jesus Seminar, says Daniel Akin,
the
dean of the school of theology at Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary.
The two-hour program, "Peter Jennings Reporting: The Search for
Jesus,"
airs June 26 at 9 p.m. (EDT). It follows Jennings through the Holy
Land
and derives much of its content from interviews with Jesus Seminar
participants and likeminded biblical scholars.
