CHILDREN are being secretly reared in Britain for sacrifice by
Satanists, says a Government-backed expert.

Psychotherapist Valerie Sinason, who has been paid by the
Department of Health to study adult survivors of alleged
organised ritual abuse, said yesterday she was "completely
convinced" Satanic abuse does occur.

She claimed to have evidence about children whose births were
not officially registered being reared for abuse and sacrifice.

Iraqi Museum Recovers 5,000 Artifacts From Digs in Southern Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The Iraqi Museum has recovered more than
5,000 artifacts from southern Iraq, some that had been buried
for nearly 5,000 years, the country's chief archaeologist said
Wednesday.

The finds were made at three little-known sites that date back
to the Sumerian civilization of 3000 to 2000 B.C., said Rabi'ya
al-Qaisy.

The museum rushed excavation teams to the area following
reports that antiquity smugglers were pilfering the sites, he
said.

Iraq is in a race with antiquity traffickers who are believed
to have intensified their scavenging of ancient sites in
southern Iraq despite heavy penalties.

Foremost among the recovered artifacts are scores of cylinder
seals which Iraqis used as signatures in the Sumerian period,
said Raya Younis, a scientist at the museum.

"Some of the impressions on these seals, as well as their size
and manufacture, are unique to the long history of Mesopotamia,"
she said.

Some seals show lions hunting gazelles and goats. Other show
revelers drinking alcohol, mainly beer, which the Sumerians made
from barley and dates.

One signature depicts a sick man on a bed with physicians
preparing herbal medicine while a mythical bird - the enzu -
hovers overhead. The enzu has the head of a lion and the wings
of a falcon. Raya said it was the symbol of Ningersu, the
Sumerian god of death and war.

"These are fascinating seals of which only a handful exist in
world museums," Raya said.

The archaeologists also found clay tablets inscribed in
cuneiform. One tablet details the food rations that the
Sumerians used to pay civil servants, soldiers and workers.

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom
has a new Internet site (see link #3 below) for people in the
U.S. government's efforts to end religious persecution abroad and
promote international religious freedom. It features an archive
of commission press releases; frequently asked questions; the
State Department's first country-by-country Report on
International Religious Freedom; names and biographies of the
commissioners; the text of the 1998 International Religious
Freedom Act and its 1999 amendments; texts of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights; the 1998 State Department Human
Rights report; and links to other sites of interest.
...The commission was created by the International Religious
Freedom Act of 1998 to give independent recommendations to the
executive branch and the Congress.

Catholic parishes in a St. Petersburg, Fla., diocese are helping
other parishes pay their bills. Twenty-three parishes raised
$1.27 million to pay off debts owed to the diocese by less
well-off parishes, Catholic News Service said. The diocese
matched the donations, allowing nine parishes and one
inter-parochial school to reduce their principal debt by $2.5
million. The effort is part of the worldwide church's Jubilee
2000 campaign, which is modeled after Israel's jubilee
celebrations in biblical times, when all debts were forgiven
every 50 years.

Millions of Catholics will travel to Rome this year seeking
forgiveness for sins. At least 2.5 million pilgrims have passed
through the holy door of St. Peter's Basilica this year in the
belief that by doing so they receive a "plenary indulgence," or
complete remission from punishment for sins, The Associated Press
said.
...As many as 30 million people are expected to make the
pilgrimage in 2000, which the pope has declared a holy year.
Pontiffs have declared such special years for seven centuries,
since Pope Boniface VIII in 1300 offered "abundant remission and
pardon for sins" for those who came to St. Peter's that year. An
indulgence can be obtained by visiting any of dozens of sites in
Rome and worldwide, by doing good works, such as visiting a
prison inmate, or by making a sacrifice, such as giving up
smoking for a day, the pope proclaimed.
...The issue of indulgences is one of the rifts that divide
Catholics and Protestants. Sixteenth-century reformer Martin
Luther protested the selling of indulgences, a primary reason for
his break with the Catholic Church. Protestants, who believe that
forgiveness of sins comes only by faith in Jesus Christ, say
indulgences are unbiblical.

MICROSOFT FACES MORE LEGAL WOES IN EUROPE Looking into
complaints by end-users, small computer businesses and Microsoft rivals,
the European Union on Wednesday launched a probe into allegations that
Microsoft is bundling its new Windows 2000 operating system with other
software in such a way that only its own products are fully interoperable,
placing rivals at a disadvantage. Microsoft, which is still embroiled in a U.S.
antitrust suit, denies the charges, claiming it has complied with EU
competition law. If the EU finds the allegations to be true, it could force

E-COMMERCE PANEL PROPOSES 5-YEAR TAX MORATORIUM In an
unusual move intended to level the playing field for online and bricks-and-
mortar retailers, members of the congressionally appointed Advisory
Commission on Electronic Commerce are seeking a five-year suspension of
sales taxes on books, records and certain other items -- both over the
Internet and in retail stores -- while states restructure their sales tax
systems. The proposal is aimed at heading off lawsuits from states frustrated
by the loss of tax revenues due to online shopping. Congress put a three-
year ban on taxes for access to the Internet and sales over the Internet in
1998, when it created the advisory panel to recommend a permanent
solution. The Commission admits that the proposal will be a hard sell, but
says it "is intended to enable all consumers, whether or not they make
purchases on the Internet, to enjoy the benefits of a new, restructured sales-

BACK TO NORMAL?

Life in southern Lebanon and northern Israel has returned to routine. Israelis
in the north have been allowed to leave their shelters, as Hizbullah
announced that it will not shoot katyushas into Israel for now. Israeli jets
attacked terrorist strongholds in the Zalya region this morning, and Hizbullah
and Israeli forces exchanged fire in the afternoon. Israel also bombed targets
north of the security zone.

Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh and Danny Yatom, head of the
Prime Ministerial Security Staff, announced this morning that if Hizbullah
shoots at Israeli soldiers from within civilian areas, Israel will return the fire.
On the other hand, Israel announced today that the Grapes of Wrath
Monitoring Committee - composed of Israeli, Syrian, Lebanese, US and
French representatives - will convene tomorrow in Nakura, in southern
Lebanon, following Israelīs agreement to participate. The Likud said today
that the Barak government missed a chance to change the Lebanese
situation "from the foundations." The opposition party added that the
government's consent to participate in the talks tomorrow is a great mistake
that returns Israeli soldiers to being hostages of Syria and Hizbullah.

The ArabicNews.com news service reports today that the Syrian Minister of
Electricity inspected the damage that resulted from Israel's strike on the
Jamhour power station in Beirut. He promised that what was destroyed
would "be rebuilt by the one people in Syria and Lebanon."

The Lebanon Daily Star claims that Hizbullah has gained "the moral high
ground" after this week's events. "Foreign diplomats in Beirut suggested...
that Hizbullah has gained an enhanced reputation... by refraining from
launching katyusha rockets across the border," the paper writes. The Star
quotes an unnamed European diplomat to the effect that Israel has violated
the Grapes of Wrath understandings while Hizbullah has adhered to them,
and another diplomat said that his colleagues agree that Hizbullah acted
wisely in the way it "limited" its operations.

THE MEDIA'S ANGLE

The Israeli press has one and only one goal these days: to get the IDF out of
southern Lebanon. So says Meir Uziel, the founding editor of Makor Rishon,
in yesterday's Ma'ariv. Interviews conducted by Voice of Israel's military
correspondent Carmela Menashe, as well as on the television news,
consistently feature soldiers who favor an IDF withdrawal. Uziel also noted
the graphic video clips aired on Monday night after a Hizbullah attack on an
IDF outpost that killed one and seriously injured four other IDF soldiers.
"These images are aimed at weakening the public will, in an effort to
convince the viewers of the need for capitulating to Hizbullah," Uziel told
Arutz-7. "There are many, many IDF soldiers and officers that would like to
see us hit even deeper into Lebanon, and smite the terrorists more forcefully,
in short - to win this war. But you don't hear their voices [on radio or
television]. Anyone who would air these views would be accused of
brainwashing by those in charge of the demoralization campaign."

Chief Military Censor Brig.-Gen. Yitzchak Shani said today that the
broadcasting of the interviews with the soldiers was not submitted for
approval before being aired - in violation of the relevant regulations.

Uziel was critical of the comparison increasingly being made in the press
between Israel's presence in southern Lebanon and America's role in the
Vietnam war. "This is a ridiculous equation, and it testifies to a certain short-
sightedness on the part of those who make it," he said. In addition to the
fact that Israel shares a border with Lebanon while Vietnam was thousands
of miles away from the U.S., Uziel noted that the end of the American
involvement in Vietnam did not bring peace to that region, but rather to
"greater losses and to the strengthening of the North Vietnamese forces."

Some of the opinions expressed by IDF soldiers regarding their continued
presence in southern Lebanon have been picked up by Arab news services.
An article in today's Jordan Times, entitled "Israeli soldiers appeal for end to
Lebanon bloodshed," states as follows: "Israeli soldiers on active service in
Lebanon issued a personal appeal on Wednesday for an immediate
withdrawal from the battlefields across the border after the death toll in their
ranks over the past two weeks rose to six... 'I don't want to be the last
soldier killed in Lebanon,' a member of a parachute unit told public radio as
he headed towards his position in the occupied buffer zone in south
Lebanon... 'What's the good of staying in Lebanon and putting our lives in
danger when the army has its hands tied for political reasons and cannot act
as it should," [another soldier] said."

Former IDF Chief of Staff Shachak related to this issue as well during his talk
with Arutz-7 today. When asked how is it that our soldiers don't believe that
they can defeat Hizbullah in battle, Shachak answered, "I don't agree with
what they said, but I'm glad that soldiers can say what they feel, even if what
they say happens to please Hizbullah."

SPEAKING UP FOR JERUSALEM

The United Forum for the Integrity of Jerusalem convened last night for its
first public meeting. Formed to fight the government's intention to transfer
outlying Jerusalem neighborhoods to the Palestinian Authority, the group is
headed by Agudat Yisrael head Rabbi Menachem Porush and Yesha Council
chairman Benny Kashriel. MKs Ariel Sharon (Likud), Yigal Bibi (NRP),
Benny Elon (National Union), and Yuli Edelstein (Yisrael B'Aliyah) also
participated in last night's session. Bibi declared that the NRP would not
remain in the government "even one day" if part of Abu Dis is handed over to
the Arabs.

Hizbullah is fighting Israelis in southern Lebanon, but its goal is Jerusalem.
So it states on its official website:

"The Zionist invasion of Lebanon [in 1982] led to the occupation of the capital
Beirut, making it the second Arab capital to be occupied during the Arab-
“Israeli” conflict, with Jerusalem being the first. This crossroad speeded up
the presence of Hizbullah as a struggle movement that is totally affiliated in
the long complicated and complex fight against the Zionist enemy. The
starting point of that struggle being the Zionist occupation of Palestine, and
then to many of the Arab lands in Egypt, Syria and Jordan leading up to
Lebanon. All that led to the establishment of the identity of Hizbullah as a
struggle movement against the Zionists... Hizbullahīs ideological ideals sees
no legitimacy for the existence of “Israel"... we also find the slogan of the
liberation of Jerusalem rooted deeply in the ideals of Hizbullah."

After Centuries of Exile, Bnei Menashe Return to Zion

Jerusalem - An emotional scene is expected at
Ben-Gurion airport early Friday as 37 descendants of
the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel are set to arrive at
6:50 a.m. on EL AL flight #0076 out of Bombay.

The new arrivals, members of the Bnei Menashe, are coming to Israel
under the auspices of the Jerusalem-based Amishav
organization, which is dedicated to locating
descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel and
returning them to the Jewish people. They join an
additional 450 Bnei Menashe (children of the Tribe of
Manasseh) already residing in the country.

"This is an historic moment for the Jewish people,"
said Amishav founder and chairman Rabbi Eliyahu
Avichail, who has devoted his life to finding and
assisting the descendants of the Lost Tribes of
Israel. "After a lengthy and difficult separation, the
Bnei Menashe are being reunited with the Jewish people
in the Land of Israel. Their return to Zion marks the
closing of an historical circle," noted Rabbi
Avichail, adding, "This is a triumph of faith."

The Bnei Menashe arriving in Israel originate from two
states in eastern India: Manipur and Mizoram. Members
of the Shinlung tribe, they have a rich oral tradition
tracing themselves back to the Israelite tribe of
Manasseh and continue to practice many uniquely Jewish
customs. Approximately 30 years ago, some 3,500 Bnei
Menashe decided to formally return to the Jewish
people and they began living a fully Jewish life to
the best of their ability in accordance with Jewish
law.

Two decades ago, Rabbi Avichail learned of the Bnei
Menashe through an Indian Jewish acquaintance, and he
traveled to India several times to investigate their
claims to Jewish ancestry. After careful study of the
historical record and consultations with leading
rabbinical authorities, Rabbi Avichail concluded there
is convincing evidence linking the Bnei Menashe with
the Jewish people.

Rabbi Avichail notes, "The Bnei Menashe have an
ancient tradition handed down orally from generation
to generation which speaks of the Patriarchs Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob. They circumcise male children on the
8th day after birth in accordance with Jewish
tradition. The Bnei Menashe conduct a sacrificial
ceremony on an altar reminiscent of the ancient Jewish
Temple in which their priest uses the Hebrew name of
G-d as it appears in the Torah. In this ceremony,
their priest invokes Mount Sinai, Mount Moriah and
Mount Zion."

The Bnei Menashe are descended from the Israelite
tribe of Manasseh, one of the Ten Tribes of Israel
exiled by the Assyrians in the 8th century BCE. The
exiles of Manasseh reached Assyria and from there,
according to Bnei Menashe tradition, went to
Afghanistan. From Afghanistan they went to the
"Himalayi" (believed to be a reference to the
Himalayan mountains), on to Mongolia and from there to
southern China. In China, the group was persecuted
because of its faith and forced to hide in caves (as a
result of which they have come to be known as
Shinlung, which means "cave covering"). Some 500 to
600 years ago, the Shinlung, or Bnei Menashe, began to
wander toward their current home located on the border
between India and Burma.

Upon arrival in Israel, the Bnei Menashe will engage
in full-time study of Judaism and the Hebrew language
to reacquaint themselves with the faith of their
forefathers. To remove any doubts about their status,
the Bnei Menashe undergo formal conversion ceremonies
performed by the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, upon
completion of which they are granted new immigrant
status by the Interior Ministry.
