UN CALLS FOR GENEVA SUMMIT: The United Nations General
Assembly (UNGA) has overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for a
special summit of signatories to the Geneva Convention on 15 July to
discuss "illegal Israeli actions in occupied 'East Jerusalem' (aka
Biblical Jerusalem) and the rest of the 'occupied Palestinian
Territory' [Judea, Samaria and Gaza (Yesha)]". The summit's aim will
be to demand that Israel abide by the provisions of the Geneva
Convention. The gathering is the first of its kind in the 49-year
history of the Geneva Convention. In private discussions at the UN,
Swiss diplomats acknowledged that the situation in Yesha is hardly
"one of the most serious cases in the world" in which the Geneva
Convention is being violated. A source at the UN quoted a high-ranking
Swiss official as having said, "At a time when other flashpoints
around the globe are witnessing acts of cruelty like the murder of
innocents and the amputation of limbs, the situation in the
territories is not the worst." The Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a
statement saying Israel completely rejects the UN resolution. The
Ministry announced that Israel will not participate in the conference.
In other actions, the UNGA repeated its recommendation that Member
States cease all forms of support for Israeli activities in Yesha, in
particular settlement activities. It restated its affirmation that
"all legislative and administrative measures and actions taken by
Israel, which have altered or purport to alter the character, legal
status and demographic composition of 'Occupied East Jerusalem' and
the rest of the 'Occupied Palestinian Territory', are null and void
and have no validity whatsoever".
The vote on the Geneva resolution, which was taken in an emergency
session, was 115 to two (Israel and US) with five abstentions. The UN
resolution may be seen on our website at:
The UNGA also adopted a resolution entitled "Bethlehem 2000", in
support of efforts to mark the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of
Jesus Christ. The United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the
Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold the Bethlehem
2000 International Conference in Rome on 18 and 19 February. Speakers
at the conference include Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Italian
Republic; Head of the Holy See delegation (Vatican); Secretary-General
of the Organization of the Islamic Conference; a member of the Islamic
Research Council; President of the Islamic Center, Rome; a
representative of the Moscow Patriarchate; General Secretary of the
National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States; a
director of the World Council of Churches; and PLO leader Yassir
Arafat. (ICEJ, ISRAEL LINE, UN DAILY HIGHLIGHTS, GA PRESS RELEASE, PM

ISRAELI MISSION TO UN ENTERS CYBERSPACE: The Israeli Mission
to the United Nations has officially launched its own web site,
located at: <http://www.israel-un.org>. The site provides detailed
information on the Israeli Mission's activities at the UN focusing on
issues such as regional development projects, arms control and
scientific cooperation. It also includes information on the current
peace process and previous Israeli UN ambassadors. (PRIME MINISTER'S

ARAFAT WANTS UNITY WITH JORDAN: Revitalizing a 1985 decision by
the PLO, Arafat said Friday that he is interested in forging a
confederation between Jordan and a future Palestinian state. Jordan's
late King Hussein initially considered, then rejected, the idea,
apparently fearing for the stability of his kingdom. About two-thirds
of Jordan's population are Palestinians. In a Jordanian-Palestinian
confederation, that percentage would rise considerably. In addition,
many residents of Yesha and Jerusalem still hold Jordanian passports.
Meanwhile, the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Abdel Ilah al-Khatib -- in
an interview with the French news agency, AFP -- said that Jordan's
position on the issue had not changed since it was first raised in the
early 1980's. He said the proposal would be considered after a
Palestinian state had been set up. The newly-crowned King Abdullah
feels that Jordan should take precedence over the Palestinians
regarding territories captured by Israel from Jordan in '67. Perhaps
the central expression of this philosophy will be Abdullah's
determination to consolidate Jerusalem's Islamic holy sites --
especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque -- under Jordanian control. At the very
most, Abdullah may be willing to allow the Palestinian Authority
(PA/PLO) to be included in an umbrella religious organization under
Jordanian jurisdiction. (AP, BBC, ARUTZ-7)
NIMROD NOT SECRETIVE: According to settlement leaders, a story in
HA'ARETZ this past week is not altogether true. The story states that
Nimrod, a former Israel Defense Force (IDF) Golan outpost, has been
"secretly transformed into a new settlement". However, Avi Ze'ira,
Chairman of the Golan Settlement Committee, rebuffed the charge that
Nimrod's establishment involved secret dealings. "Nimrod began as
army outpost almost 15 years ago," he told ARUTZ-7. "When the army
left a short time ago, it handed over jurisdiction to the Defense
Ministry, which then turned over the reins to the settlement arm of
the Jewish Agency. Though we didn't go out of our way to publicize the
move, everything was done above board, in coordination with the
relevant government departments. Let's not forget that the Golan is an
inseparable part of the State of Israel, too," Zeira observed. One
family lives there at present, and 3-7 more are expected within the
next two months. Government officials confirmed that the land was
transferred to civilian use. The World Zionist Agency, a subsidiary of
the Jewish Agency, said there were no plans to turn Nimrod into a
settlement. Since 1967, some 17,000 Israelis have settled in 32
communities on the plateau. The Golan is also home to about 14,000
Druze Arabs. (ARUTZ-7, AP)
PLO TO DELAY STATEHOOD? The PLO leadership said for the first time
Tuesday that it was "studying" a delay of a few weeks in proclaiming
an independent state on 4 May. "We are studying an idea presented by
friendly countries to delay by two or three weeks the proclamation of
our independent state," the Palestinian minister for international
cooperation Nabil Shaath told a news conference [This would be a few
days after the Israeli elections-ed].
Meanwhile, resolutions were introduced in the US Senate and House last
week opposing the declaration of a Palestinian state. Eight days after
it was introduced, the concurrent resolution appears to be moving
quickly. As of Wednesday, the list of co-sponsors totaled 84.
Following President Clinton's meeting with Arafat last week, State
Department Spokesman James Rubin said that a unilateral declaration of
statehood "would be a mistake that would undermine the ability to
negotiate a permanent status [arrangement]". The House and Senate
resolutions are aimed at ensuring that the White House abides by this
policy. (ARUTZ-7, AFP)
ISRAEL A PART OF EU? The European Parliament on Thursday
recommended Israel's inclusion in a multibillion dollar research and
development science program of the European Union, known as the "Fifth
Framework", YEDIOT AHARONOT reported. If the Parliament's
recommendation is implemented, Israel will be counted as an official
participant at a convention of the EU in Brussels next week. Israel's
inclusion in the project would also bring in millions of dollars to be
allocated to research and development, creating hundreds of jobs in
the public sector.
Meanwhile, Industry and Trade Minister Natan Sharansky Tuesday, in a
meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo, stated that
the connection the EU is seeking to make between politics and economic
relations damages Israeli-European economic relations on the one hand
and limits the possibilities for cooperation between Israel and the
Palestinians on the other. "If the Government of Israel had known in
advance that the countries of the European Union would link our
invitation to participate in the EU Research and Development Plan, in
which Israel wishes to join, and regional politics, it is doubtful
that I would have succeeded in raising the $160 million that the
government budgeted for Israel's participation," Minister Sharansky
said.
In a related story, on their corporate website, McDonald's, in a list
of all the countries where they have franchises, failed to list the
country of Israel. It is interesting to note that the McDonald's
Israeli concession is owned by Omri Padan, the founder of Peace Now
(Shalom Achshav) which opposes the settlements in the Land. Padan has
refused to open franchises in Yesha, preferring to mix business with
politics. Dr. Aaron Lerner, Director of IMRA (Independent Media
Review & Analysis), stated that after a week, he had still not heard
from a spokesman from McDonald' worldwide headquarters regarding the
omission of Israel from their website. (ISRAEL LINE, FOREIGN MINISTRY)
TALKS WITH SYRIA NEAR? Syria's Ambassador to the US, Walid
Mu'alem, said on Monday that Damascus expects to resume negotiations
with Israel within the next several months, regardless of which
government comes to power, KOL YISRAEL reported. Both Israeli and
Syrian officials have indicated in recent days that there could be
movement on the Israeli-Syrian track, frozen since former PM Peres'
disastrous 1996 "Grapes of Wrath" military operation in Lebanon. But
THE JERUSALEM POST cites a US official as saying Washington saw no
signs of potential movement. (ISRAEL LINE, ICEJ)

Israel's Sharon to meet pope just before Arafat
Vatican audience
JERUSALEM, Feb 8 (AFP) - Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon will
meet Pope John Paul II at the Vatican next week, just days before
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat is scheduled to have his own audience
with the pontiff, officials said Monday.
A foreign ministry spokesman said Sharon would meet the pope on
February 15 during a trip to Rome which was also expected to include
talks with Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema and Foreign Minister
Lamberto Dini.
Arafat is scheduled to have an audience with the pope on February 19
after meeting the previous day with Italian officials.
Sharon plans to reaffirm to the pope that Israel will never cede its
sovereignty over annexed east Jerusalem, where the Palestinians hope
to establish the capital of a future state, Israeli officials said.
He will also stress Israel's commitment to freedom of access for all
religions to holy sites in east Jerusalem, including such Christian
shrines as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, believed built over the
spot where Jesus was buried and resurrected.
Sharon is also expected to renew an invitation for the pope to visit
Jerusalem for the millennium celebrations, although Vatican officials
have said it is unlikely the pontiff will travel to the city given
disputes over its status.
Arafat has also invited the pope for the year 2000 -- to attend
celebrations being organized by the Palestinian Authority in the West
Bank town of Bethlehem, where Christian tradition says Jesus was born.
The Palestinians have been seeking international aid to organize their
Bethlehem 2000 celebration and Arafat is expected to discuss the
project with Vatican and Italian officials.

Teen witch sues Mich. school for symbol
LINCOLN PARK, Mich., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- The American Civil Liberties
Union is representing a 17-year-old witch in a lawsuit against a
Michigan school district that allegedly trampled her right to worship
and free speech.
Crystal Seifferly filed the suit challenging the Lincoln Park School
District's 4-month-old rule against certain student uses of the
pentacle, a five-pointed star that's a symbol of her Wicca faith and
common in jewelry.
Seifferly claims she's been a witch since age 13, and that the school
district rules discriminate against her by lumping Wicca together with
the Ku Klux Klan and hate groups.
At an ACLU-sponsored news conference today with her mother, Seifferly
said she ``will not be forced into shame'' by opponents of her
religion.
Lincoln Park Schools Superintendent Randall Kite says he can't comment
on the charges because he has not seen the lawsuit.
But Kite also says, ``Our aim is not to discriminate.''
Kite says the dress-code rule that triggered the suit passed in
October as an amendment to a longstanding ban on gang-related clothes
and symbols.
Kite says the pentagram -- another name for the pentacle -- was added
to the list of banned symbols ``if it's worn in connection with other
things and causes a disruption.''
Seifferly's mother says she and her husband are Christian but support
their daughter's lawsuit as well as her freedom to choose a religion.
The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Subject: [BPR] - Prayer Rally in Israel

From: "Moza" <moza@butterfly.mv.com>
PRAYER RALLY DRAWS OVER A THIRD OF A MILLION
Media estimates of the attendance at the prayer vigil/rally this
afternoon in Jerusalem put the total number at approximately 350,000.
Religious Jews of all streams heeded the calls of their spiritual
leaders and arrived in buses from all over the country. The
participants totally filled the area from the Jerusalem Convention
Center (Binyanei HaUmah) to the old central bus station, as well as
for many blocks around. The mass prayer service began at 3 PM with
the afternoon Minchah service, and continued with the recitation of
Psalms and penitential prayers, interspersed with the blowing of tens
of shofars (ram's horns). It concluded at approximately 4:45 PM with
the crowd crying as one, "The Lord is G-d" - seven times, as on Yom
Kippur. Rabbi Menachem Porush then read aloud the resolutions of the
rabbinical bodies sponsoring the event. As the crowd dispersed, many
of the participants broke out into spontaneous dancing, singing, "May
this hour be one of mercy and one of Heavenly favor."
Posters at the mass gathering read, "The Torah of Israel is not
adjudicatable" - a reference to Chief Justice Barak's 'activist'
approach, according to which, as he said, "everything is subject to
adjudication." Other banners read, "The Supreme Court is tearing the
nation apart," and "This Torah will never be replaced." A separate
section for women and girls was cordoned off, so that there would not
be a mingling of the sexes.
Guards were stationed in the hareidi neighborhoods of Jerusalem,
which had all but emptied out, to protect against looters and
thieves. Similar prayer vigils were held at the same time in New
York, London, Antwerp, and Paris. Representatives of the media from
all over the worldwere on hand to cover the event. Some 1,300
policemen were stationed in the area, including roof-top snipers who
were on the lookout for terrorist activity. Rabbi Pesach Lerner,
Executive Vice President of the National Council of Young Israel,
speaking from the mass prayer service to an Arutz-7 correspondent,
said, "They say there are almost half a million people here.
How can one not take part in an event involving almost ten percent of
Israel's Jewish population?"
Media commentators noted the unprecedented discipline and orderliness
of such a large crowd, as well as the significant and unusual measure
of cooperation among the various religious camps in organizing the
event.
RABBI KOOK: VIGIL NOT AGAINST DEMOCRACY
Rabbi Simcha HaCohen Kook, the long-time Chief Rabbi of Rehovot -
looked up to by both the religious-Zionist and hareidi sectors -
called for a "peaceful" demonstration today, and for dialogue between
the camps. Speaking with Arutz-7, Rabbi Kook said that the
participants must be careful to heed the directions of the police
today. "But, as usual, the media are portraying the event falsely.
It's not a demonstration against democracy, it is simply a prayer
service, and there will be no speeches... I do not want to risk a
police investigation, so allow me to simply quote former Supreme Court
Chief Justice Moshe Landau, who wrote in a Haifa University Law
journal that the way of the current Supreme Court in this term is not
democratic, and that the Court has taken upon itself the authorities
of the Knesset. Other prominent judges have also expressed similar
harsh criticism... This is a dangerous situation, therefore, that
imperils not only the religious, but the entire society... There is
no other country in the world that would have allowed a judge who
called an entire sector "lice" and "parasites" to continue to serve as
a judge." [President of the Southern District Courts, Justice Oded
Alyagon, called the hareidi community "parasites" in August 1996.]
NETANYAHU ENCOURAGES DIALOGUE
The feverish efforts of President Weizman and, chiefly, Prime Minister
Netanyahu over the past few days to have the demonstration postponed
did not bear fruit. "First we'll pray, then we'll talk," said Rabbi
Menachem Porush. Netanyahu met on Friday with leading judicial-system
representatives and religious and hareidi public leaders, in an
attempt to establish a national forum for discussing
religion-and-state issues. Prime Minister Netanyahu said today: "I
condemn in the strongest terms any attacks upon the Supreme Court, and
I defend it totally and completely. This does not mean that it is
unacceptable to criticize... I have been working over the past few
days to bring about an understanding between the sides - not with
complete success, I admit - and I will continue to do so... For the
Jewish people, nationality and religion are intertwined, and it is
impossible to define the Jewish people by completely separating its
national identity from its religious identity."
Other quotes:
Minister Limor Livnat said on Friday, " [Labor MK] Yael Dayan and I
demonstrated outside the Supreme Court several years ago in protest of
the light sentences handed down to rapists. In a democratic society,
everyone has a right to express criticism, to demonstrate and to
protest against any institution, even the Supreme Court."
Chief Justice Aharon Barak, explaining why he has refused to meet with
hareidi leaders: "Judges are supposed to speak only in the courtroom.
If the Court will conduct negotiations regarding items and issues on
its agenda, its objectivity will be harmed."
Former Supreme Court justice Tzvi Tal: "There is room for the Supreme
Court to make an 'accounting' regarding its sensitivity to Jewish
tradition and that which is holy to it."
Author A.B. Yehoshua called upon the religious public "who cannot
adapt to the national reality in Israel" to return to the Diaspora.
Labor Party Chairman Ehud Barak: "I am not afraid of Rabbi Ovadiah
Yosef, and I have met with him and told him clearly what I felt on
this matter... We must cease surrendering to extremist hareidi
elements, and the way to do this is by replacing the government at the
ballot box."

NATIONAL Y2K MAGAZINE LAUNCHED
The publishers of the AWARENESS JOURNAL have launched a national news
magazine called Y2K SOLUTIONS. The premiere issue features an
exclusive interview with Y2K analyst Paloma O'Riley, and is an
excellent primer on Y2K. The February issue will feature the potential
impact of Y2K on food and water supplies. The magazine focuses on
solutions instead of fear and doomsday, and looks at the resiliency of
people and the opportunity to create positive solutions in the face of
change. One section, called "Community Spirit," will feature Y2K
preparedness activities in communities around the country. February
will showcase the SEDONA Y2K TASK FORCE.
The magazine is also intended to be a "bridge" publication for the
estimated 80 percent of the population who are not active users of the
Internet and therefore are not receiving accurate news about Y2K, if
any at all. Paloma O'Riley will be taking copies of the first issue
with her to Washington D.C. and intends to pass them out to officials
there, including John Koskinen.
The magazine retails for $3.50. The publisher also offers a bulk rate
of $1 per copy for orders of 25 or more, so that Y2K groups can use
them as a fund raiser. (JG)

THE RATIONING OF U.S. GOLD COINS
The demand for gold coins is going through the roof: in the first six
months of 1998, the U. S. MINT sold an average of 96,000 ounces of
gold coins a month; in the second six months, it sold 210,000 ounces a
month; in the first month of 1999 it sold 268,000 ounces! During the
first week of February, 1999, the U.S. Mint stopped selling gold coins
for a day and then announced a new allocation system.
According to Y2K analyst Gary North, if the demand continues, gold
coins will have to be rationed within 30 days. North says, "You had
better act when you can." He suggests that tenth-ounce coins at about
$35 are the best investment, because they are most easily bartered for
day-to-day items. Here are two coin dealers that he recommends:

HOW TO TELL IF CANNED GOODS HAVE EXPIRED
When storing canned goods to prepare for Y2K, it makes sense to stock
up on the safest and freshest products. In general, canned goods are
safe to eat even years after their "best before" dates have expired;
however, if a can is swollen, rusty or smells funny when you open it,
don't hesitate to toss it -- the last thing you want on your hands in
a crisis is a sick family. Nevertheless, best-before dates and various
other manufacturers' codes are handy references to the freshness of
products. Trouble is, the codes are often confusing and hard to
interpret.
Here are some sources that help clarify the issue:
<http://www.a1usa.net/gary/expire.html>: website explains some
manufacturer dates and how you can decode them on cans.

Pig-to-human transplant plan
"Transgenic" pigs: Could help Parkinson's sufferers
An American company has applied to inject pig cells into the brains of
human sufferers of Parkinson's disease in the UK.
The treatment is intended to halt or potentially reverse brain damage
in sufferers. It is already undergoing trials in the United States
where some patients have seen benefits.
But scientists, campaigners and organisations - most notably the
Council of Europe - have requested a moratorium on all cross-species
transplants until key questions have been answered over its safety.
Virus fear
There are fears that pig-to-human transplants could introduce new
"silent" viruses, or retroviruses, into the human population. These
reside in the pig's DNA and cannot be screened out using normal
methods.
HIV is an example of a retrovirus and was derived from chimpanzees.
There are also significant ethical questions over the transplant
treatment.
A report in Monday's Guardian newspaper identified the company
applying for UK transplant trials as the Genzyme Corporation. Genzyme
has not confirmed the report.
Secrecy row
The UK Department of Health have refused to name the firm, despite a
written Commons question from Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker. Many
MPs now want to know why the matter is being treated with such
secrecy.
The company that applied for permission is understood to have
developed a procedure in which cells from pigs' foetuses can be
transplanted to produce a vital chemical, dopamine, that Parkinson's
sufferers' brains have stopped making.
The American trials have recorded some early successes and were
approved by the US Food and Drug administration.
"Humanised" organs
The application to replicate the US cell transplant trials in the UK
is also likely to throw the spotlight on other procedures, including
genetically-modifying pigs to give them "humanized" organs that can
then be "harvested" for transplant into human beings.
To date, researchers have not been able to successfully produce
"transgenic" organs, but some scientists see them as an eventual
solution to chronic shortages in transplantable organs.

Subject: [BPR] - Arabs Continue to Build Mosque in Hulda Tunnel
From: bpr-list@philologos.org(BPR)

From: "Moza" <moza@butterfly.mv.com>
The Arabs Continue to Build a Mosque in the Hulda Tunnel
A report from the municipal authorities and police in Jerusalem states
that the Arabs on the Temple Mount are continuing to destroy the last
important and beautiful remains from the Second Temple age in the
Hulda Tunnel.
The Hulda Tunnel was the main entrance to the Temple Mount in the
Second Temple age. Millions of pilgrims who came to worship on the
Temple Mount used to enter mainly through the Hulda Gates on the
southern wall of the Temple Mount and through this very beautiful
tunnel which was built by King Herod under the ground of the Temple
Mount. The pilgrims used to go up into the court of the Temple from
this tunnel and then, when they finished worshiping, went out by the
same way. On their way out from the Temple Mount they used to meet
pilgrims who were entering and comforted those who had lost their dear
ones and blessed and prayed for those who had sickness or problems in
their lives. It was one of the most unique meetings and events between
the Israelis when they came to the Temple Mount.
This tunnel was the most beautiful tunnel which was built under the
Temple Mount. It was filled with very special and beautiful ornaments
of the seven species (the holy fruits) of the land of Israel and other
ornaments and a beautiful line of marble columns. From the first
moment that the pilgrims came to the Temple Mount it gave a special
feeling of holiness, beauty and a very godly atmosphere.
This tunnel was one of the last portions of the Second Temple which
survived undamaged until the twentieth century. Visitors who came in
the former centuries mentioned it in their protocols and books and
even painted it with all its beauty and later filmed it. In 1998, the
Arabs on the Temple Mount started to destroy the last remains in the
tunnel and to change its appearance. Before this they covered all the
ornaments and columns with plaster to deny the tunnel's Jewish
identity and the fact that it had been a part of the Second Temple
complex. It was a continuation of the destruction and building on
other places on the Temple Mount for the same purpose: to deny that
the Temple existed on the Temple Mount and to make it totally an
Islamic political center of mosques. Now they are building another
mosque in the Hulda Tunnel. The Arabs on the Temple Mount did not obey
the Israeli authorities decree to immediately stop this work and,
unfortunately and it is so sad, the Israeli authorities again showed
weakness and did not force them to stop this barbaric activity which
destroy the last remains of the Temple. These remains are very holy
and important, not only for Israel, but for all the world in a
religious, a national and in a scientific sense. They are the only
ones in the world and the message from G-d and from our forefathers is
to keep these remains, to save them and to continue from this point to
fulfill G-d's prophetic end-time message to rebuild His house and to
immediately stop the long Islamic abomination of the most holy hill of
G-d.
I do not only want to blame the weakness of the Israeli authorities
who are afraid of the political and violent reaction of the Moslems,
not only in Israel but all over the world, and the reaction of the UN,
the United States administration and other powers all over the world
but also these powers who are exerting pressure on the Israeli
government. I blame them because they give in to the barbaric behavior
against the holy house of G-d, the dearest place of the Jewish people
and the land of Israel and, I believe, of all the world. Where is the
UN which so often hurry to blame Israel because they renew and rebuild
the most holy capital of their forefathers and the Jewish people,
Jerusalem, and all the land of Israel? Where are all the rest of the
political hypocrites all over the world who prefer the oil and money
of the Arab nations and not the G-d and people of Israel who together
are making the biggest end-time prophetic event in the holy land which
G-d gave to Israel, not only for Israel, but for a new godly era for
all mankind.
The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement has decided to
make a petition to the Supreme Court of Israel. We shall demand that
they enforce the cessation of this barbaric abomination against the
G-d of Israel, his holy house, the people of Israel and even against
all mankind. We shall demand that they trust only the G-d of Israel
and not fear the enemies of the G-d and people of Israel. We feel
that in some way G-d is testing us on the Temple Mount as to whether
we trust only in Him and His promises to save Israel from all its
enemies. We immediately need for all of us to stop this silence in the
face of this barbaric abomination of the most holy place of G-d in all
the earth and to come against any humanistic law and feeling. I am
sure that G-d Himself cries when He sees this barbaric destruction on
His most holy hill and nobody, even in Israel or all the world, is
doing something to stop it.
We need to immediately wake up and stop this sinful behavior. Everyone
in the world is called on to do this; to pray and to send letters to
their governments, to the UN and to the government of Israel to bring
this destruction and abomination to an end before the judgement of G-d
falls. The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement feel that
their historical task is not only to rebuild the Temple but also to
bring this call to everyone in Israel and all over the world and to
awaken them to do what G-d expects them to do at this critical time.
I had the privilege of walking in this tunnel 15 years ago when a
Knesset Committee visited this place and I was invited, as the head of
the Temple Mount Faithful, to join them. I could feel the presence of
G-d so strongly in the tunnel and even the presence of the spirits of
millions of my forefathers who walked in the tunnel on their way to
the Temple. I felt such an excitement. It moved my heart and tears
came to my eyes when I saw the beautiful decorations of the seven
species which had already been covered up by the Moslems. In another
corner of this tunnel I saw one of the most beautiful marble columns
covered with plaster and not far from there I suddenly saw a number of
long wooden beams which still had marks of the fire through which
they had passed. They were the beams from the Second Temple that the
Moslems had robbed before they destroyed the last remains of the
Temple itself. I could not move from this place. I stood for a long
time and prayed and wept before the G-d of Israel for Him to redeem
and to rebuild his holy house and to give me the strength to save His
holy hill, Jerusalem, and the land of Israel for Him, for His people,
Israel, and for all the nations. I could not move from this place not
only because I could not stop hugging our lovely Almighty One of
Israel in one of the most exciting places of the Temple complex, but
also because I felt that I did not want and could not move from the
place which all my prayers, desires and activities all my life had led
me to and there I was at a very unique moment. My friends who were
together with me in the situation needed to pull me and to waken me
from this wonderful real dream. I will never forget that moment I
cannot stop having tears in my heart as long as this terrible
destruction and abomination in this place and all over the Temple
Mount continues.
Please look at the drawing of the Hulda Tunnel on our web site and you
will have an idea of the unique beauty and holiness of this tunnel and
what we lose more and more every day that this barbaric destruction
continues. Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful Movement

Subject: [BPR] - Red Heifers are Born in Israel and Texas
From: bpr-list@philologos.org(BPR)

From: "Moza" <moza@butterfly.mv.com>
Red Heifers are Born in Israel and Texas
In the Torah, in Parasha Hukkat (Numbers 19-22), G-d commanded the
people of Israel:
And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, This is the
ordinance of the Torah which the Lord has commanded, saying, Speak to
the people of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without spot,
which has no blemish, and upon which never came yoke; And you shall
give it to Eleazar the priest, that he may bring it forth outside the
camp, and one shall slay it before his face; And Eleazar the priest
shall take of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle of its blood
directly before the Tent of Meeting seven times; And one shall burn
the heifer in his sight; its skin, and its flesh, and its blood, with
its dung, shall he burn; And the priest shall take cedar wood, and
hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the
heifer. Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his
flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the
priest shall be unclean until the evening. And he who burns it shall
wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be
unclean until the evening. And a man that is clean shall gather up the
ashes of the heifer, and lay them up outside the camp in a clean
place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the people of
Israel for a water of sprinkling; it is a purification offering. And
he who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be
unclean until the evening; and it shall be to the people of Israel,
and to the stranger who sojourns among them, for a statute forever. He
who touches the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days. He
shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day
he shall be clean; but if he does not purify himself the third day,
then the seventh day he shall not be clean. Whoever touches the dead
body of any man who is dead, and purifies not himself, defiles the
tabernacle of the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel;
because the water of sprinkling was not sprinkled upon him, he shall
be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him. This is the Torah, when a
man dies in a tent; all who come into the tent, and all that is in the
tent, shall be unclean seven days. And every open utensil, which has
no covering upon it, is unclean. And whoever touches one who was slain
with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man,
or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. And for an unclean person
they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for
sin, and running water shall be put there in a utensil; And a clean
person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it
upon the tent, and upon all the utensils, and upon the persons who
were there, and upon him who touched a bone, or one slain, or one
dead, or a grave; And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean
on the third day, and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he
shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in
water, and shall be clean at evening. But the man who shall be
unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from
among the congregation, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the
Lord; the water of sprinkling has not been sprinkled upon him; he is
unclean. And it shall be an everlasting statute to them, that he who
sprinkles the water of sprinkling shall wash his clothes; and he who
touches the water of sprinkling shall be unclean until evening.
(Numbers 19)
The commandment concerning the ashes of the red heifer was one of the
most important commandments and was connected to the Temple worship.
In the times of the Tabernacle and the First and Second Temples nobody
could enter the Tabernacle or the Temple unless the person was
ritually clean. The ashes of the red heifer were prepared from a
perfect animal which was completely red. The ashes were usually
prepared on the Mount of Olives and used to purify people who had come
in contact with a dead body which is one of the most unclean
situations. In other cases the Jews could purify themselves in running
water, usually in a Mikvah. In almost every Jewish house of those
times there were Mikvas and there were also public Mikvas. In
archeological diggings which were done in the Old City area, Masada
and other places many Mikvas were discovered. G-d's commandment for
the Jews to be ritually clean was so important because G-d required
them to be a holy people. One of the most important ideas of being a
holy people means to be clean spiritually and physically. The
purification by water or the ashes of the red heifer meant not only a
physical purification and cleaning but, even more than this, a
spiritual purification. This is also the idea when Jews wash their
hands at least three times before every meal even until now. When they
wash their hands, they bless G-d and say: "Blessed art thou O Lord our
G-d, King of the Universe, who hath sanctified us by His commandments
and commanded us to wash the hands." In this way they not only purify
and clean their hands physically but they make all the idea of the
meal and the food a spiritual activity and not only a physical
situation. This can give an idea to everyone of how important the idea
of purification was and still is for the Jewish people.
The most important purification was with the ashes of the red heifer.
As we see in the portion above, it was only used in cases where Jews
came into contact with dead bodies and in this case only the ashes of
the red heifer could purify them. This was especially so before they
entered the Tabernacle or Temple which were the house of G-d, the most
holy place in all the earth where G-d dwells and people could not
enter when they were not ritually pure. They even took off their shoes
and walked on the paths in their bare feet with great care and deep
respect for the G-d of Israel.
Red heifers have not often been born in Israel. Sometimes only one in
a generation or more. When it was born it was a miracle. It was always
sufficient as only a small amount mixed with pure water was required
for a long time. Nine red heifers were born during the time of the
Tabernacle and the two Temples. The tenth, according to this
tradition, will be born in the end-times for the Third Temple. Since
the destruction of the Second Temple and in the time of the exile over
the last 2000 years no red heifers have been born. But see how G-d is
acting in His miraculous ways. After the godly rebirth of the State of
Israel in 1948, and especially after the miraculous liberation of the
Temple Mount in 1967, the call of G-d for the rebuilding of the Temple
started and the Temple Mount Faithful Movement was founded to make
this call of G-d a reality in our lifetime as G-d expected of the
Israeli nation. At the same time the efforts and activities started to
discover amounts of ashes which had been hidden by the priests before
the destruction of the Second Temple for the generation of the
redemption of Israel. Archeological diggings were undertaken and still
continue in the area of Jerusalem and Qumran in the Dead Sea area.
Also news of red heifers began to appear. A red heifer was born in
northern Israel and less than a year ago in the Ayalon valley not far
from Jerusalem where David defeated Goliath another red heifer was
born. Not only have red heifers been born in Israel but also in the
United States on the ranches of Zionist Christians, friends and lovers
of Israel. It is not an accident that red heifers were born on such
ranches. It was at the same time a message from G-d that He will bless
those who bless Israel and only on such ranches could such a holy
heifer be born.
One year ago a perfect red heifer was born on a ranch in Texas of a
member and friend of The Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful
Movement. A few years ago when I used to speak in the area about the
vision and activities of the Movement for the rebuilding of the Temple
and the need to renew the life of Israel as it was in the Biblical
times, this rancher used to come and take part in these meetings.
Immediately, he and his family were very special to me. Their love for
the G-d and people of Israel and the vision of the rebuilding of the
Temple moved my heart. In the meetings I felt a deep need to ask him
whether a red heifer had already been born on his ranch. It was G-d
Who pushed me to ask the question again and again. I knew, and it was
a deep feeling in my heart which only G-d could have put there, that
on his ranch a red heifer would soon be born. One day about a year ago
when I was back in my lovely city, Jerusalem, I received a letter from
this wonderful rancher and the exciting message was: "A red heifer has
been born on my ranch." In what exciting and special ways G-d is
acting! At the same time, I received a phone call from another member
and friend, Sam Peak, who also brought me this joyful message. He also
asked how to handle the heifer and how to raise her according to the
godly Jewish law. A red heifer needs to be raised and handled in a
very special way like a holy thing which is completely dedicated to
G-d. It has to be raised in a very special, clean stall and to be fed
with special food, and even to be spoiled. She cannot be raised with
other calves and especially not with males. It is forbidden to use her
for any work or any other needs of the rancher. I gave them all the
details and I thanked G-d for His kindness towards His people, Israel,
and those who are fighting for the rebuilding of the Temple. It is
this kindness and a clear message from G-d to His people, Israel, that
the time for the rebuilding of the Temple has come and G-d is no
longer prepared to wait. More than this, He cannot wait. It is no
accident that for almost 2000 years no red heifers were born and now
they are coming one after another, in Israel and on the ranches of
friends of Israel.
These two red heifers were dedicated by The Temple Mount and Land of
Israel Faithful Movement to be used when they are three years old and
have continued to be perfect red heifers for the preparation of the
ashes of the red heifer for the Third Temple. When the Third Temple,
which is soon to be rebuilt, is completed, the ashes are a condition
for the renewal of the worship in the Temple, firstly to purify the
priests and Levites who will worship in the Temple and then the
Israelis who will come to worship the G-d of Israel in the Temple. We
want to be ready for this moment and we feel and know that time is
short and all the events are leading us to this moment. When G-d
started to send these red heifers it was also a message from Him that
time is short.
My friend o f the Faithful Movement, Ze'ev bar Tov and I had the
privilege of seeing and checking for ourselves this special red heifer
in Texas. She really looked perfect. Although we had not planned it,
our visit to the ranch coincided with the week in which the Parasha
Hukkat which deals with the law of the ashes of the red heifer was
read in the synagogues. It was again a clear godly message for us that
the birth of the red heifer on this ranch was not an accident and even
the timing was a godly timing. It was one of the most exciting moments
in my life and I felt the presence of the G-d of Israel on this ranch
and in this family. I immediately knew that G-d had brought me to the
United States and to that place to see His miracles and these
wonderful friends and lovers of the G-d and people of Israel whom I
had met so often in various places in the United States. He wanted to
show me in which wonderful miraculous ways He is fulfilling the
prophecy of Isaiah 49:22-23; 66:18-24; Zecharaiah 8:20-23 and other
prophecies of Isaiah and other prophets.
Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,
and set up my standard to the people; and they shall bring your sons
in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried upon their
shoulders. And kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens
your nursing mothers; they shall bow down to you with their face
toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall
know that I am the Lord; for those who wait for me shall not be
ashamed. (Is.49:22-23) For I know their works and their thoughts; it
shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall
come, and see my glory. And I will set a sign among them, and I will
send those who escape to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who
draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to far off islands, that have not
heard my fame, nor have they seen my glory; and they shall declare my
glory among the nations. And they shall bring all your brothers for an
offering to the Lord from all nations upon horses, and in chariots,
and in litters, and upon mules, and upon fleet camels, to my holy
mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, as the people of Israel bring an
offering in a clean utensil to the house of the Lord. And I will also
take of them for priests and for Levites, says the Lord. For as the
new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before
me, says the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it
shall come to pass, that every new moon, and every sabbath, shall all
flesh come to worship before me, says the Lord. And they shall go
forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men who have transgressed
against me; for their worm shall not die, nor shall their fire be
quenched; and they shall be a loathing to all flesh. (Is.66:18-24)
Thus says the Lord of hosts: It shall yet come to pass, that there
shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities; And the
inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go
speedily to entreat the favor of the Lord, and to seek the Lord of
hosts. I will go also. And many peoples and strong nations shall come
to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord.
Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days it shall come to pass, that
ten men from the nations of every language, shall take hold of the
robe of a Jew, saying, We will go with you; for we have heard that God
is with you. (Zech.8:20-23)
When the rancher and Sam Peak asked what name should be given to the
heifer, the name Geula _ redemption _ immediately came to my mind. I
really felt that this special event represents one of the most
exciting events of the redemption of Israel at this prophetic end-time
which we are now experiencing. The red heifer which was born in Israel
I named Tsiona _ to Zion _ the most important name of the Temple
Mount, which is Mt.Moriah. We are really living in very exciting days.
It is such a privilege for this generation.
When the red heifer from Texas is ready, she will be brought to Israel
and handed over to the Temple Mount Faithful in a special ceremony.
This will be a great day and a blessing, not only for Israel, but also
for our faithful friends all over the world who decided to bless
Israel and G-d is blessing them. It will be a great day for the
rancher in Texas who dedicated himself with such special devotion to
raise this red heifer and to follow the godly law so very carefully.
We thank him for this and may G-d continue to bless him.
Today red heifers are also being raised in Mississippi. We are also
checking other places. One thing is certain, G-d is sending many red
heifers which has not happened in such numbers in the past. What I
wonder is how so many people are too blind to see what G-d is doing
with Israel at this exciting time and even try to stop G-d from acting
together with Israel to fulfill and accomplish His prophetic end-time
plans together with His people, Israel. In Israel in the secular
press and in other places in the world, articles have been published
which stated that the birth of a red heifer is a big danger like an
atom bomb because it will open the door and the ability for millions
of Jews to purify themselves and to walk on the Temple Mount and in
this way liberate it from the Islamic occupation and rebuild the
Temple. I can only wonder how they can differentiate between day and
night if they see so poorly and how they cannot see the appearance of
G-d and His word before their eyes at this exciting time. None of them
or any of the enemies of G-d and Israel can stop the determined
decision of G-d to accomplish His prophetic end-time plans with
Israel, to very soon rebuild His house and to bring Mashiach ben David
in our lifetime. The process of the redemption of Israel will continue
and soon be accomplished. This is the message, not only for Israel,
but for all the nations. In the G-d of Israel we trust.
The godly commandment regarding the ashes of the red heifer is one of
the most mysterious. In all the commandments which G-d gave to Israel,
He explained the reason and purpose of the commandment and why it is
so important to fulfill it. In the commandment relating to the ashes
of the red heifer we are not told how it can clean unclean Israelis.
The explanation is that in this important commandment He expected
Israel to implicitly obey with no questions and to show Him that we
obey even when we don't know how the ashes can purify and Israel
really obeyed and kept this important commandment with complete
obedience and showed G-d how much they believe, love and appreciate
Him. We want to continue and show G-d the same in our lifetime. We
want to see the renewal of the worship in the Third Temple with a
perfect purification and obedience. We than G-d that He gave us the
privilege to be born, to live and to act for Him at such a special and
exciting time. Thank you G-d. Temple Mount and Land of Israel Faithful

POST-RALLY CONCLUSIONS
Estimates of the attendance at yesterday's giant prayer-rally vary
widely, and range between 250,000 and close to half a million people.
Chaim Walder writes in the hareidi paper Yated Ne'eman that the
sensation there was one of positive pride and satisfaction, and that
the rally was a "show of strength against those who would destroy us."
The religious-Zionist daily Hatzofeh highlighted the fact that at the
conclusion of the rallies in Jerusalem yesterday, "thousands of
people" from both the religious rally and the left-wing
counter-demonstration a few hundred meters away gathered in groups and
held discussions on the issues of democracy and religious rights.
PRAYER RALLY: REHEARSAL FOR THE GREETING OF THE MESSIAH
Rabbi Elimelech Tirnoyer, one of the main organizers and the announcer
at the rally, summed up the event for Arutz-7 today: "The
participants filled the streets from the Machaneh Yehuda market to the
television studios, and from the Sakharov Gardens [at the entrance to
the city]... This was great, an awesome spectacle! I can only
describe it as a preparation for the coming of the Messiah into the
gates of Jerusalem. When I was visiting a prominent rabbi in
Jerusalem yesterday after the gathering, there were people there
seriously debating when a Jewish assembly of this magnitude had last
taken place - during the days of the Second Temple, or at the stand at
Mount Sinai?... The sense of unity that filled the air was amazing!
Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews singing together the same traditional
prayers to the same tunes! The prayers that were heard... Forget the
Supreme Court issue! Just the unity and prayers alone were enough!...
I heard that Chief Rabbi Lau cried [on television], but I can tell
you that he was not the only one: women, children, and elderly people
were literally weeping, their prayer sheets soaked with liters of
tears. And at the conclusion, the mass recitation of "The Lord is G-d"
and "Shma Yisrael" was simply an unforgettable spectacle. Men with
knitted yarmulkes danced with others who bore sombreros, who in turn
joined hands with Gerer Hasidim... Not one negative word was uttered
against any Jew, not even against politicians or government
institutions... No one was hurt and there was no violence. For this
I want to thank from the depths of my heart the wise Chief of
Jerusalem Police, Mr. Yitzchaki, who agreed to our request not to
bring policemen with clubs or horses... It was really a
sanctification of G-d's name! Wonderful, sweeter than honey..."
KINERET DOWN
The level of the Sea of Galilee, Israel's main reservoir, rose
yesterday by three centimeters, but this is merely a "drop in the
bucket." Some 220 million cubic meters of water are expected to be
lacking by the end of the winter, compared to an average year. Much
of the shortage will be able to be replaced from other sources, but
farmers will receive smaller allocations of water than usual.
***Next week, on the seventh of Adar (Feb. 23), eleven justices of
the Supreme Court will convene to decide, or at least to discuss, the
important issue of whether to register people who have undergone
Reform and Conservative conversion ceremonies as Jews in Israel or
not.

There are at least 3 different views of where exactly the Temple
is to be built. See: http://www.templemount.org

Oh, but they did and had about a month where they started
archaeological digs under and around it but then Moshe Dayan gave it
back to the Moslems. Supposedly it was a good will gesture. I believe
that info is also included at the above url.
I hope this helps,

Syria FM visit to Russia
Weekend News Today

Mon Feb 15 , 1999 --Well-informed sources told BBC radio on
Friday that the visit of Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa to
Russia on Tuesday may be in preparation for the visit to be paid by
President Hafez al-Assad to Moscow in the near future. The report
added that the question of Syria's attempt to obtain S 300 missiles
was recently raised and provoked the US to extend warnings to Russia
on the consequences of supplying Syria with such missiles. However,
in a press conference held in Damascus on Wednesday, Syrian Vice
President Abdul Halim Khaddam denied that his country seeks to own
these missiles.
Russia reaches weapons deal with Iraq
Weekend News Today
By Staff Writer
Source: The Washington Times
Mon Feb 15 , 1999 -- Russia has approved a $160 million deal to
provide Iraq with modern military hardware, including upgrades of
MiG-29 fighters and anti-aircraft missiles that could seriously
threaten British and U.S. aircraft enforcing the no-fly zones in Iraq.
The sale is of particular concern in light of Iraq's almost daily
attempts to shoot down allied aircraft in the two zones. A reward has
been offered to any Iraqi gunner who succeeds in downing a plane.
The Iraqis and Russians moved quickly to complete the deal after the
United States and Britain launched Operation Desert Fox on Dec. 16. In
what amounts to a wholesale disregard of U.N. sanctions, the Iraqis
have been able to sign at least two deals with Mapo-MiG that provide,
among other longer-term commitments, for the overhaul and upgrading in
Iraq of all Iraqi MiG combat aircraft, with special emphasis on
MiG-23s and MiG-29s, as well as the supply of avionics systems, oils,
engines and other aircraft parts. In addition, agreement was reached
on training Iraqi technicians in aircraft assembly and maintenance, as
well as stationing a Mapo-MiG technical expert in an Iraqi air force
base for six months to provide technical advice and guidance.
The Iraqis are also discussing with Mapo-MiG the possibility of a
separate contract for leasing combat-ready planes and purchasing new,
advanced air-defense batteries and surplus batteries from the Russian
army. When confronted with details of these deals, officials at
Mapo-MiG firmly denied doing business with the Iraqis, while
Avtoexport and the Russian Foreign Ministry both refused to comment.
An official at Mapo-MiG did, however, admit that the company would
welcome the business. Western diplomats estimate that the deal with
Mapo-MiG alone isworth more than $950 million.
*** Russia denies Iraq arms deal report
MOSCOW (AP) - The Russian government angrily denied Monday a British
newspaper report that said Moscow had signed a contract to modernize
Iraq's fighter jets and air defense systems. "The fabrications in the
British media have clearly been initiated by those who try to cast a
shadow on Russia's policy for political settlement of the Iraqi
problem," the government said. Britain's Sunday Telegraph said a $160
million deal to strengthen Iraq's air defenses and upgrade squadrons
of MiG fighters was signed in mid-January after a Moscow visit by
Ahmed Khalil, Iraq's Transport and Communications Minister. The
newspaper claimed the move was approved by Russian Prime Minister
Yevgeny Primakov Dec. 7 in violation of a U.N. arms embargo on Iraq.

Immigration from Russia to Israel gains momentum

Fri Feb 12 , 1999 -- The Jewish Agency says immigration from Russia
has increased by 50 percent following the latest economic crisis
there, and predicts the trend will continue during February and
March. The agency, which promotes Jewish emigration to Israel, said
more than 3,300 people arrived from Russia in December 1998 and
January 1999, compared with 2,225 during the same period one year
earlier. This makes for a 49 percent increase, it said.
Immigration from Moscow and surrounding areas increased by 66 percent
and many Jews have been leaving the Far East, Siberia and Northern
Russia, it added. Some 800,000 Jews have left the former Soviet Union
since 1989, making it the single biggest source of emigration to
Israel.

purchase millions of dollars in high-tech military equipment.
Albright said recently that American law prohibits aid to governments

PA Mufti rejects request to leave new Temple Mount office
Weekend News Today
By Andra Brack
Source: IsraelWire
Mon Feb 15 ,1999 -- Jerusalem's PLO Authority (PA)-appointed
Mufti, Sheik Ikrama Sabri, rejected Israeli requests that he shut
down his newly opened office on the Temple Mount of Jerusalem's Old
City. Israeli officials told the mufti that the opening of his office
was a gross violation of the status quo and he was obliged to move to
another area. The mufti flatly rejected the Israeli demand,
explaining that the office is a religious and not political matter.
Israel plans to call upon the United States to pressure the PA and
the mufti to comply with the request.
Kosovo is given peace deadline
Weekend News Today

Source: (AP)
Mon Feb 15 , 1999 -- Despite a conclusion that "nothing
has really been solved," the United States and five other nations
gave rival Serbs and ethnic Albanians another week to consider their
plan for ending yearlong conflict in Kosovo. Secretary of State
Madeleine Albright, intervening directly, brought the two sides
together Sunday, face-to-face, for the first time. She reported
afterward that the Albanians at least, thought the plan that would
give them self-rule but not independence was a "fair deal."
But the Serbs resisted the prospect of a NATO peacekeeping force
deployed in the Serbian province in the event of a settlement, and
Albright said even the Albanians had not promised to sign the deal by
the deadline of next Saturday at noon. That's when the United States,
Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Russia said the talks extension
will end.
New computer technology: fulfillment of prophecy?
Weekend News Today
By Kelly Pagatpatan
Source: (Lompoc Record)
Sun Feb 14 , 1999 -- Al DiMora, who made a name for himself as
the head of a now-defunct Carpinteria company that made custom cars
for the rich, has founded a business in Utah that is promising to
revolutionize computers and electronics in ways that will be felt at
all levels of society. Star Bridge Systems says its HAL-4rW1
hypercomputer is three times faster than the most powerful
supercomputers now in use, and will be available for $26
million--about one-quarter of the cost of bigger, slower competitors.
But the hypercomputer--which its creator says may be capable of
attaining self-consciousness--is just the beginning. HAL was built to
demonstrate the enormous potential of a new way of using computer
chips that, if the company's claims are true, will be embraced by
companies making everything from toaster ovens to automobiles to
satellites. The company's claims do sound plausible when explained by
HAL's inventor and company co-founder, Kent Gilson, a 33-year-old high
school dropout. Gilson, who has spent the last 15 years working in a
discipline known as reconfigurable computing, says he's found a way to
get the most out of the concept. Computers have traditionally used two
types of computer chips: slower ones that are designed to handle a
large number of tasks, and speedy, application-specific chips that are
tailored to do a specific job. Intel's Pentium chip, the heart of many
personal computers, is an example of a versatile chip that can handle
many different jobs. The price is a loss of speed. Chips like those on
a graphics accelerator card--a device that allows personal computers
to handle video and games--are hard-wired to do that job, and do it
fast. These hard-wired chips, called application specific integrated
circuits, or ASICs, are expensive to design. A cheaper alternative is
a reconfigurable chip called a field programmable gate array (FPGA),
which can be reconfigured to act like an ASIC. The chips were an
exciting enough development to merit a cover story in the June, 1997
issue of Scientific American. Star Bridge Systems has developed
hardware and software that allows FPGA chips already on the market to
be reconfigured as many as 1,000 times per second. HAL uses 280 FPGAs
on 36 integrated circuit boards, and the company claims it can perform
12.84 trillion operations per second. That makes it nearly 10 times
faster than the Blue Mountain, the supercomputer used by Los Alamos
National Laboratory to simulate nuclear explosions. IBM's $94 million
Blue Pacific, which does 3.9 trillion calculations at best, uses 5,856
Power PC chips and takes of 8,000 square feet. HAL isn't much bigger
than a personal computer. The key to getting that much power out of so
little hardware is software written by Gilson called Viva. "Up to
a thousand times per second, Viva inventories available resources,
both in hardware and software, and automatically selects the most
efficient available resource to perform each function required to
complete the computer's task, trading one resource off with another,
as needed, in order to maintain maximum efficient use of all
resources," according to information the company distributes on
its web site. In a device like a satellite, a personal computer, a
camera or an automobile, it allows one FPGA chip to act like many
ASICs, increasing computational power and cutting costs, weight and
power consumption. Al Dimora's brother, Frank, a long-time Lompoc
resident, prophecy expert and author, sees HAL's capabilities and its
potential use as a tool for increasing mankind's knowledge as another
sign that the return of Christ to Earth will happen sooner than some
were expecting. HAL is "fulfilling part of Daniel's prophecy that
knowledge will increase before the Lord returns. They weren't
expecting this kind of computer to hit the scene for 10, 20, 50
years."
Iraq warns Kuwait, Saudi Arabia

Sun Feb 14 , 1999 -- Iraq told Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to stop
letting U.S. and British military aircraft use their bases to patrol
the no-fly zone in southern Iraq, and threatened to retaliate if they
failed to do so, Reuter reported. A statement issued after a meeting
of top Iraqi officials led by President Saddam Hussein said
"...we are able to target sources and means of aggression, and
from anywhere it is launched, after relying on God and the support of
our Arab nation." Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz Sunday
visited NATO member Turkey to try to persuade it to stop western
aircraft from using Turkish bases for patrols over a no-fly zone in
northern Iraq, set up to protect the region's Kurdish people.

Along these same lines, I once asked a Rabbi if the Ark of the
Covenant was found, would it matter where it was placed (would it
have to be on the Temple Mount). He said it would. I thought the Ark,
which is the footstool of God, could be placed just about anywhere
(like when they were wandering in the desert) and that's where God's
presence would be. Apparently the location is more important than
anything else at this time.

*** Yeltsin's impeachment hearings end
MOSCOW (AP) - A parliamentary committee trying to impeach Boris
Yeltsin finished its work Monday and began preparing a motion to
remove him from office, a move expected to fail. Vadim Filimonov, the
Communist Party member who led impeachment hearings, said leaders of
parliament's lower house will receive the commission's findings
Thursday and the entire body will begin reviewing the motion in two
weeks, the Interfax news agency said. The impeachment commission, set
up last summer, says Yeltsin should be held accountable for
instigating the 1991 Soviet collapse; using force against hard-line
lawmakers in 1993; launching the botched war in Chechnya; bringing the
nation's military to ruin; and committing "genocide" against the

*** Scientists examine 1918 killer flu
WASHINGTON (AP) - The 1918 flu that killed more than 20 million
people may have quietly percolated for several years, maybe even
trading back and forth between pigs and people, until suddenly
growing strong enough to become the world's worst pandemic. That's the
latest theory from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, which
reported Monday that researchers for the first time have completely
analyzed a critical gene from the killer influenza virus. The gene
likely "was adapting in humans or in swine for maybe several years
before it broke out as a pandemic virus," said molecular biologist Ann
Reid, lead author of the study published in the Proceedings of the

MINI-DESPATCH 16th. February, 1999
=================================
By W. B. Howard...editor of Despatch
The world we are facing in 1999 is an impossibility for mere humans to cope
with! The threat of the New World Order completely taking over
globally, the horror of the Y2K situation, the rise of persecution of
the Christians in other nations, the emerging One World Church
conglomerate - things are not looking good, in a natural sense. But
in a spiritual sense the outlook is far different.
The pages of the Bible are filled with impossible situations, just look at
Hebrews chapter eleven for many examples. People who loved God, thrown to
lions, chased out of cities, facing famine and outbreaks of terrible
diseases, wandering in the desert without food and water, facing hostile
crowds who hated them etc. How did these saints of God cope? Were they so
much stronger than we are, and therefore they could stand bravely and not
deny the Lord? Why did they have peace in the midst of awful trials? This
we MUST understand, above all we must know how these believers of other
days faced the unthinkable, the unimaginably hard trials that they faced.
For if we can learn their secret, then we too can walk through any fire,
storm, persecution or famine that Satan sends our way.
Hebrews 4:1-3 teaches about the FAITH-REST that comes from the Living God.
True rest in any trial is only found in God Himself. The mighty saints of
God in the Bible knew in a practical way the Faith-Rest of God. True rest
is not found in escaping our trouble, for we all have these on this fallen
earth, true rest is found in the midst of trouble as we trust God. Even
poor David wanted to fly from his problems, but more troubles would have
only arisen elsewhere - and they did in David's life:
"And I said, O that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and
be at rest.' (Psalm 55:6).
The wicked unsaved can never have rest and peace. They have refused to
have life from the Lord Jesus Christ. But Christians who will not live in
FAITH-REST can never have peace either. The reason is that peace and rest
are only found in the Presence of God, He shares His own peace with us. God
has perfect peace, but this is not in the hearts of men. In our hearts
there is never peace from our own selves:
"And He said unto him, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee
rest." (Exodus 33:14).
"Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with
thee." (Psalm 116:7).
In His Word God has graciously provided a solution for every problem! As
we face each and every trial resting in His promises, having faith in the
God Who gave them to us, we find that HE meets each trial with His
consolation and peace. He provides the solutions, just because He is Truth
and He cannot lie. We often suffer so needlessly because we do not rely on
God, and we seek to find solutions and resources in ourselves. In these
passages from God's Word you will see that God wanted to give rest and
peace but His people WOULD NOT allow Him to. Are you and I going to be so
distrusting? I pray not:
"To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to
rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear."
"For thus saith the lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest
shall ye be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength; and
ye would not." (Isaiah 28:12; 30:15; 57: 20-21).
"Come unto to me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest." (Matthew 11: 28).
No man or woman can manufacture Rest from their own resources. It is the
peace that only God can give, but it is only available to us if we exercise
Faith. If we refuse to come in faith to Him, then we will sink into despair
and anxiety. When people are anxious and fearful they make very bad
decisions, decisions made in panic and under emotional turmoil. We need
clear heads and steady nerves as we face 1999 and on into AD 2000. Our
witness before the lost should be of calm hearts, peace in God and
confidence in His protection. When others see what Christians have in God,
in the midst of chaos, they will turn in their own need to the Lord. We can
then comfort them with the comfort God gives us, but we must have Faith in
the Lord to be in that wonderful state:
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort
them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are
comforted by God.
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also
aboundeth by Christ. (II Corinthians 1:4,5).
God wants you and I to have His peace. When we were reconciled to God
(Romans 5:1) we entered into "eirene" the reconciliation peace. "Phoureo"
is the peace which God wants to give us which keeps us resting and calm. It
is a word which means to "guard." It is like a fortress that "garrisons"
our hearts, the word means in Greek to post warriors around us. The peace
God shares with us is like having protecting warriors around a castle,
nothing can get in and spoil that trust. It is a gift God wants us all to
have.
Consider Daniel in the lions den, he was at peace all night with fierce
lions surrounding him, he had Faith-Rest in God. Daniel did not create such
peace from his own resources within himself. But Darius the king could not
sleep, he was in turmoil all night. Yet he was surrounded by luxury and
plenty. No man is capable of having the peace that Daniel delighted in
from his own inner self. God alone can give that confidence and trust.
(Dan. 6:16-23).
Faith-Rest is our Sabbath rest in the New Testament. It is typified in the
Old Testament by Canaan. See Numbers 13 where spies were sent out to see
what the land of Canaan was like. The Israelites had wandered in the
wilderness because they would not enter the Promised Land, they did not
believe the Lord would just give the land and defeat the enemies that were
in Canaan. They would not enter their rest. The book of Hebrews in chapters
3 and 4 show us that this Canaan rest is likened to the rest God wants
Christian believers to have, His Faith-Rest. It is shown to be a rest from
relying on our own works, our own resources in trials, and our own yearning
to force ourselves to have peace. It is likened in Hebrews to the Creation
Rest of God Himself! (Hebrews 4:1-16). Read this passage for yourself and
see how important it is for you to honour God by resting in Him in trust.
Your Faith-Rest Sabbath is a type of the Creator God resting from His labours.
It is imperative that we learn from God Himself and the Scriptures,
NOW, what moment-by-moment Faith-Rest is all about. We do not know
what the future holds, but our God does, for He holds the future in
His hand. He has promised to supply all our needs, and He has
promised to give peace as well. Let us not fail because of unbelief,
as those who perished in the wilderness did (Book of Numbers). God's
supplies and peace are ours if we take them by faith, we must take by
faith and not sight or feeling, or we will never have what God wants
to provide.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace
of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.. But my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (Philippians.
4:6,7; 19).
"Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink;
nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than
meat, and the body than raiment... (For after all these things do the
Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all
these things. But seek you first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you. Take no thought (anxious
thoughts) for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things
of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
(Matthew 6:25-34).
JESUS CHRIST our Beloved Saviour gives this word of encouragement to us
right now in 1999:
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth,
give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
(John 14: 27).
